School was over, thank goodness. It wasn't as though Christopher's first year at DCU was bad. It was just... busy. What with trying to keep his grades up, playing baseball, and finding out that he was some strange Norse themed superhero... minus the typical, useful, superhero powers like... flying or super strength. All in all, it wasn't a bad year. And now he could devote his time to the animal shelter and figuring out what the heck he was supposed to do about the fur on his strange outfit he got whenever he focused on turning into his other self.

Chris had just finished up with a day at the shelter, making sure everything was cleaned up and in order for the next day and next set of volunteers, so stopping by a small cafe on the way home wasn't that unusual for him. Long nights running around and 'protecting the city from evil', or whatever, had increased his desire for caffeine intake. Usually he tried cutting back on coffee and just drink tea, but coffee seemed like a good idea today.

He sat in the corner of the cafe, working on the number games in the back of the newspaper someone had left on his table, sipping at his cup of coffee without a care in the world. Well... that was the idea, at least. He didn't know that he was about to wish he would have gone straight home instead of stopping.

Skye had graduated or was about to, you know... she was seeing herself as graduated and was moving into her apartment full time. Jack was being given a key of course, she needed his erm... relief more often then not and he was a good friend with good benefits. That and she was his captain in the negaverse and that was her real excuse for giving him a key but their meetings weren't the usual nega meetings that was for sure. It seemed Jack was the best thing for Skye, she hadn't been in a relationship since that b***h had broken her and Chris up. So okay Skye had slept with someone else but... she had been drunk! But not the b***h had said she was sober.

She had been walking past the coffee shop when she noticed him over in the corner through the window. She had stood there for a while before she opened the door, walked in and sat down opposite him.

"Hey Chris." She spoke softly, it wasn't the normal over confident Skye. She had missed Chris, she adored Jack there was no doubt about it but she missed Chris and she really wanted him to see she wasn't the girl his best friend had made her out to be.

It all happened much too quickly for him to react. One moment he was sitting by himself, and the next he was glancing up into painfully familiar hazel eyes. Her voice didn't even register at first, but that didn't matter... he'd never forget those eyes...

His own golden eyes widened a bit in response, having not been prepared to keep a straight face, the pen in his hand dropping in surprise, and rolling off the table. "H-hey," he sputtered, after a few long moments when he could find his voice again, trying to ignore the return of an ache in his chest he thought had long since disappeared.

He could make a run for it. The door wasn't that far away. Chris could grab his things and use some excuse like... having to go to the bathroom or something and just... leave. Pathetic? Probably. But he hadn't expected to ever talk to her again, and part of him didn't want to.

"I was actually on my way out," he lied, standing from his chair to hopefully get around her, although he did pause to lean down to pick up the dropped pen, not wanting to just... leave it on the floor for someone to step on and hurt themselves. It was his own fault for sitting with his back to the wall and no visible escape route, anyway. Of course, he also hadn't been expecting to run into his ex. Much less her coming in to sit down and talk to him. What the hell??

Awesome he still hated her. Oh how Skye wished she could get her hands around that girls neck but it would have to wait. She had Chris here and she wasn't about to let him just get up and go.

She stood up as he did and got in his way. She held his arm, gently.

"Please Chris, just talk." She spoke so softly in a tone only Chris had probably ever heard. Skye rarely showed her caring side, that one that means people go to you with their problems and things. Skye honestly didn't care about any of it but she had to show it to Chris. She knew it was the only way to get him to stay.

"I miss you Chris." She barely whispered the words, trying to make it obvious, her feelings towards him (which actually she wasn't overly sure of) but mostly she just wanted him to stop and talk to her.

"Just give me a few minutes then you can leave to go to whatever reason you just made up." She looked vulnerable, something else she very rarely let anyone see but she did miss Chris... She just had to get him to realise he missed her as well.

It wasn't that he hated her! He was just... forced to remember things he was trying to forget.

Chris sputtered as she stood in front of him, almost tripping backwards on the chair as he took a step away from her when she reached out for his arm, trying to figure out a better escape route. Shoot, people were already starting to look over at them. This isn't what he wanted to happen. He just wanted to get out without causing some kind of scene...

He swallowed nervously, before slowly sitting down in his seat again, although he shifted around a bit uncomfortably for a few moments, before just... trying to relax... Which was difficult because he was now so tense.

"Oh?" he wondered when she said she missed him, trying not to sound as bitter and hurt as he felt. He took a long, deep breath to calm himself down, yelling at himself about how it was stupid of him to get so worked up. It wasn't like she was pulling a knife on him! She was just... going to talk... right... talk...

She didn't have to speak to him like that, though... All soft and innocent. It made him feel guilty, as if he was the one in the wrong. He didn't like it...

"Fine... we... uh... you can talk... if you want..." he stumbled, fidgeting with the almost empty coffee cup still on the table, deciding that the lid was rather quite interesting and was intent on staring at it for the rest of whatever she had to say to him.

Skye just looked at him. They had been good together at least had thought so though of course she went and made one of those stupid mistakes that got blown out of proportion.

"Do you really hate me that much?" Skye let out a soft sigh as she watched him, it hurt her to see him like this which then annoyed her that well she did still feel something for him. She tried to think of Jack to cheer her up but apparently without him here he wasn't that great a distraction.

"You can't pretend I don't exist Chris..." It hadn't been her choice to break up. It had been Zia's and probably her opinion for Chris to avoid Skye whenever possible.

"I just want to start over and be friends. We were good together Chris and I know I messed things up but can't we just try again? Go out to the cinema, hang out, have a laugh just be the friends we were before...." She let herself just trail off and then sighed again. She wondered if this would be even going in or whether he was just ignoring every word she said.

"I've never hated you," Chris told her easily, looking up from the cup at her, despite the nagging feeling in his gut that he should run away and fast. "I hated what you did, I hated myself," he said softly, glancing back down at the cup. He didn't think he could ever hate her, regardless of what had happened. Bitter and angry towards her at times? Sure, but he didn't hate her. Besides... if it wasn't worth enough for her to stay with him, then he'd obviously done something wrong. It was just as much his fault as it was hers... Despite what Zia said to try and reassure him.

"I don't think I can hang out all that much," he said, his eyes still down at the table, still fiddling with the edge of the cup in his hands. He felt like an animal being cornered, which was stupid... it was just Skye, right...? It wasn't like she was going to jump him and tear his eyes out or something crazy like that. "I've got a lot of things to do... Baseball, the shelter... I'm seeing someone..." he finally admitted, hoping that would at least have her backing off a little.

Maybe he was a jerk for not jumping at the chance to be good friends with her again... It was his own fault that he already felt so vulnerable around her. Hanging out with her again would just open up more opportunities to be hurt, even if that wasn't her intention.

"I'm glad you are seeing someone." She wasn't and had ignored his excuses as to why he didn't hate her. She was still sure he did. So he was seeing someone, well she would have to find that out just because she loved a good gossip. In all truth she had Jack but a moment to be close to Chris again would be nice.

"You wouldn't find any time at all?" She sighed again as she spoke. "It's fine Chris if you don't want to see me." It wasn't fine but what else could she say? He didn't want her about, he had obviously moved on. Though she wouldn't give up... somehow she would find a way to at least be friends with him. Though depending on how easy he was going to make it would depend on how easy she would make it. After all he did break up with her.

"Just go. I was stupid to think you would want to talk." Skye sat back in her chair and just looked at him, wondering if her bluff would work. Granted she was playing on his emotions big time but she had to try something!

He happened to think he had a pretty good reason to break up with her... But yes, he had been the one to call it off...

Chris stared at her when she told him to go, his surprised expression relaxing back to one more nervous and unsure again. Why she made him like this, he had no idea. He wasn't like this with anyone else — awkward and nervous, lacking confidence and self-assurance. What had happened had obviously messed with the way he acted around her... more like a pathetic high schooler than someone who had just finished up his first year at DCU.

"We can talk..." he said slowly, still unsure, but he didn't want to hurt her feelings more than he already had. "I mean... I could try to find some time..."

He wanted to smack himself. Why was he agreeing to this? He wished he could just melt into the floor and not have to worry about anything. Not worry about hurting Skye's feelings, or hurting himself...

It sucked being stuck in the middle of trying to decide what to do...

Skye just smiled in a sympathetic way more then anything else. On the plus side her plan worked. It seemed Chris hadn't changed that much at all and if you tell him to go he stays probably because he worries too much but it worked and he was still here sitting in the cafe with her.

"Do you want another drink?" She thought she might as well offer, he knew she had a never ending supply of cash. Skye had never hidden how rich she was from anyone, she loved her money and all the useless stuff she bought with it.

"I won't keep you long, I need to go take my horse out for a ride. I just wanted to see how you were. I miss being your friend Chris. We were good together we had a laugh. I made a mistake while completely drunk and I know it was stupid but I am not asking for you back as a boyfriend, just a friend Chris...." She brought up the mistake on purpose - the drunken mistake that Zia made sound very undrunk. It was one of the many reasons as to why Skye hated Zia so much.

"I'm fine, thanks," he said, not really in the mood for anything else. At least nothing that would keep them bot there, longer. He felt bad that his initial reaction was to run, but he didn't really want to get into things like this when he was worried about so many other things, already.

He was fine, though. He was sorry that she missed being his friend, but her mistake was what broke them apart. Although, when she mentioned being drunk he looked up with a small frown. He didn't really want to get into talking about it, but... it was his fault for being the curious type.

"Is this another mistake that I didn't know about before, or the same one?" he asked, making sure to be cautious about it. Zee never mentioned Skye being drunk when everything happened, but... it wasn't like that made things any better...

Skye looked offended when he asked if she had done anything else when they were together. Was he really asking that?

"You telling me you didn't know?" She looked hurt by the way he asked her. "At least I really know what you think of me Chris. Did you really think I would have gone out and just done something like that? I was out with friends, these guys came over and wouldn't stop getting us drinks. I can hardly remember anything about that night and nor can the other girls." Skye looked down, she really did look hurt.

"Did you know how s**t I felt when I found out? How sick and dirty I felt and then you broke up with me... I know I shouldn't have got that drunk but you aren't an angel Chris, you made mistakes." She was angry there was no doubt about that you could hear it in her voice even though she tried to keep it steady. Her anger wasn't towards Chris though oh no she knew exactly who to blame.

"No wonder you hate me but it hurts that you think I would have done that on purpose while with you." Right now Skye felt like getting up and leaving and she possibly would have done but she wanted to see Chris's reaction. After all it was common knowledge that Skye wasn't an amazing actor.

He winced, not wanting her to feel upset or make it seem as though he was angrier than he really was. Er, not that he was angry at all... but... he would admit that he was still rather bitter.

Chris frowned in concern when she told him about her side of things (more or less), watching her carefully for her expression. He knew she was an actress, but he still didn't think she was only capable of hiding her emotions. There were times in which he saw the true Skye... and he always hoped that she was being truthful with him.

"Was it consensual?" he asked, his voice lowered so no one around them could hear, his gaze serious and worried. "And if it wasn't, why didn't you press charges? Or tell me??" If he'd known that she'd been in a situation that hadn't been her fault, something she'd been completely innocent from... "Or did you not trust me enough to tell me?"

He hadn't found out about it immediately. She could have called him or something... anything... He would have picked her up from the party and beat the crap out of the guy who took advantage of her. If she hadn't wanted it at least a little... why didn't she tell him?
PostPosted: Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:15 am

Skye would have smiled at the care that came through from Chris but instead she rolled her eyes.

"That's the point Chris, I don't remember." She didn't even know who it was she slept with that night or whether it was consensual or not. She wasn't about to go to the police when she didn't know was she? Though chances were it was probably her fault anyway but she didn't remember and she wasn't going to pretend either way.

"I can't go telling people things when I don't remember. I have no idea what happened that night and no one has told me enough for me to work it out. Also if you think this is about trust? Well yes I guess it is. Who would you have believed Chris? It was obvious your mind had been made up and it wouldn't have mattered either way what I said to you. As far as you were concerned I had done something out of spite behind your back. You wouldn't have listened and heard what I was saying. You would have seen it as a series of excuses." Chris could rely on one thing at that moment. Skye was being completely honest.

Chris frowned at her, not liking how she wasn't trying harder to remember what happened. It was part of the reason why he wondered if she even cared. "If you don't remember then that's still bad, Skye," he said under his breath, not wanting people around them to hear. Not knowing what was going on was as bad as rape. Of course, what he was most curious about is whether or not she would have done it, either way.

"I didn't think you'd done it to spite me," he said, his eyebrows furrowing in frustration. If anything, he thought she had done it because he'd ended up boring her. Or maybe there was some other guy who was there and offering her a better time. Maybe she did have a better time. Heck, he didn't even know if she was telling the truth at this point, with whether or not she remembered what happened. After all, Skye didn't have the reputation of being the most honest girl in the world.

"I wanted to believe you, Skye," Chris told her, still keeping his voice low and feeling rather uncomfortable talking about this in such a public place. "You were my girlfriend... I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt but... you didn't really defend yourself... I... I really liked you." He probably would have lapped her 'excuses' up like a puppy wanting attention. He hated that about himself, but... he really had liked her.

And it hurt him, wondering if he'd made a mistake in not taking more time to listen to what she had to say. Yes, he was hurt at the time, too, but if things hadn't been the way he thought they were... then he was the jerk, wasn't he?
