The sky was clear save for a few small, puffy clouds over the rolling plains Algalon was trotting over. Usually, he traveled in the evening and at night, but he'd been wanting to make good time in arriving at a new stargazing spot he'd heard about. It was a far distance from his usual territory, but if he could see more stars or new stars, the journey would be worth it.

Her mind was full of thoughts of her herd. Where had they gone? Why had they left her behind? Was it on purpose, or an accident? None of these would be answered until she found them. Kiley had a very tight-knit herd and she found herself questioning who she was now without them. She just felt so empty! It had only been a week since the storm had come and she lost them. She would find them - she was absolutely determined. Maybe she would find herself as well.

In the distance, Algalon spotted what looked like a mare, though a strange one. Shrugging, he headed in her direct, curious about her and looking for some conversation to pass the time. After all, she did seem to be going the same direction he was.

Kiley's ears perked up as she caught scent of someone else on the meadow. She hadn't come across anyone since she started her journey. She looked around her to see who it was that she sensed. Finally spotting them, it looked to be a rather large and intimidating looking stallion. She was a little wary, but she realized with a pang in her heart how lonely she had been lately. Some conversation with another sentient being might do her some good. Maybe he had even seen some of her herd!

"Greetings," Algalon called as he approached the mare, taking in her odd appearance. He had thought at first that the feathers were decoration. Now he could clearly see that they were a part of her. How interesting! "Have you been traveling these plains long?"

Well, he seemed to be being cordial enough. How often had others thought that she had looked menacing just because she was different? "Hello," she said affably, "and yes... I've been searching for my herd. I'm afraid I lost them that storm not too long ago. What brings you here?" While his stature was somewhat intimidating, he had a surreal feel to him - like he knew almost everything.

"i was searching for a new place for stargazing," Algalon answered. "I have not seen any others like you, so perhaps they are still further up ahead. I can help you search if you'd like."

She had often gazed at the stars herself - although she never really gave a second thought to them. To her they were just pretty lights in the sky. "I would love your help." She responded with a grin, "and the company for that matter. I'm not really used to being on my own." She was a little disappointed that he hadn't seen anyone from her herd, but at least he didn't have any bad news either.

The stallion grinned. "Happy to provide both. There is supposed to be some trees up ahead and beyond it, some foothills, and then mountains. Perhaps they are hiding and do not know the storm has passed."

"That's a possibility. They might even be looking for a safer place to call home; the storm wasn't friendly to our lands." The only thing to do now was to move forward. Hopefully she would come across her herd. In the meantime, at least she had someone to converse with. "So you said you were trying to find a new place to study the stars?"

"Indeed. It is quite the hobby of mine. Almost an obsession, you might say," Algalon answered as they began walking again. "There is much to learn from them, I just have yet to find the lessons." He looked at the mare. "Forgive my manners. My name is Algalon."

Kiley paced herself with the stallion, and watched his eyes light up as he talked about his hobby. "It's very nice to meet you, I'm Kiley." In the confusion of seeing someone for the first time in so long, she had completely forgotten about introductions! "I never knew you could learn things from the stars - how did you find out?" It was a steady pace that they travelled now - not too fast and not too slow. Perfect for the long journey she was pretty sure was ahead of her - or maybe them.

"I feel as if I have always known," the stallion chuckled. He nodded to the trees they were approaching. "I believe there is grass and fruit up ahead if you have not eaten."

At the mention of food, Kiley's stomach rumbled, reminding her that she hadn't eaten since her dinner last night. "I'm absolutely famished," she admitted guiltily. Thank goodness she had run into this stallion, or she may have forgotten to eat at all... and where would that have put her? Nowhere good, that was for sure. Certainly not any closer to finding her herd.

Algalon led the mare to the grass and fruit so she could eat. It would not do to have her get weak and not be able to find her herd. "Are all of the members of your herd feathered as you are? It is very unique."
He lowered his head to graze as they approached the grass, musing inwardly at its sweetness. The mare needed help, Algalon could see that much. He wasn't sure he was the most qualified for the job, but who else was nearby to give her aid?
