A few weeks after giving Alessa his emblem, Ren was feeling strangely out of sorts. He wasn't really sure why, though the obvious was the still lingering after effects from the field trip from hell - but it didn't quite feel the same as those effects. It was not blackness, nor nightmares that kept him awake lately; it was an odd feeling of restlessness, of not being quite himself. Even he had surprised himself by how much better he had gotten since returning; he was able to smile much more easily, laugh more freely, and he was spending more time with his best friends. Life was slowly beginning to return to normal.
So why did he still feel this way? Lying in bed, Ren absently rubbed his fingers along the bandages wrapped around his right hand and wrist. It had become a habit for him whenever he was deep in thought, and most of the time he didn't really realize he was doing it until someone pointed it out to him, usually LW or Alessa. Gabrian usually just stared at his hand silently, leaving Ren to interpret those questioning expressions by himself. As usual, though, the demon had a strange and unnerving knack for being able to read him ridiculously clearly.
A sigh escaped Ren's lips and he closed his eyes briefly, wondering if he should go talk to the nix. Speaking with Gabrian, being in the same space as his best friend, even, was good enough for him most of the time. Gabrian's presence was both relaxing and cathartic because the demon usually knew exactly what to say or do to make him feel better, to make him see things more clearer, understand himself a bit more easily. Perhaps this time would be the same.
Pushing himself up out of the bed, Ren tugged a teeshirt over his bed, and grabbing a pillow he padded barefoot from the room, making his way down the quiet hallway of the monster dorms. It was still early, before classes, and most of the students were still asleep. Gabrian might be too, but at least he'd feel better just being in the demon's room.
It took him only a few moments to make his way over to the demon dorms, and once inside, Ren slipped silently into Gabrian's unlocked room. Sure enough, the nix was still asleep, curled up in serpent form in the massive fish tank that took up one wall of the spacious (not to mention slightly girly) room. So Ren stepped over to the bed (lots of persuading on the part of him and LW to convince Gabrian to get a bed just for these exact times) and crawled under the covers, pulling the blankets over him. He would have to wait for Gabrian to wake up, so in meantime, maybe he could try and take a small nap. He wasn't really sleepy, but he was tired, and perhaps that would be enough. So Ren wriggled into a comfortable position, hugged his pillow to his chest and closed his eyes.
