Word order in Japanese is different than in English. If you took the sentence "I eat cheese" and put it into the Japanese syntax, you would come up with "I cheese eat."
Similarly, if you are working with a subject, a linking verb, and a subject complement, such as in the sentences "I am happy" or "I am Fred," the syntax would be Subject-Complement-Verb, "I happy am" or "I Fred am." Without a complement, such as in the sentence "I run," syntax would be the same as in English: "I run."
