She hadn't been too surprised to see the text jingle on her phone offering her, in a smartly cryptic way, patrol duty for the evening. It had been a little while since the fiasco on her star.. but somehow the two had seemed to put the extreme awkwardness aside. They weren't avoiding each other like the plague (nor were they actively seeking each other out), but when it came to duty it was hard to pass up.
Polaris had tried very hard to push aside the thoughts and feelings that had plagued her upon returning from her star. To bottle them back to keep from causing anything worse from happening when he eventually did call her.. and now that they were meeting the same thing. Thoughts were snipped before they could begin, and all that was left.. atleast from her side was their everyday normal akwardness.
Unfortunately the night was quiet.. the distraction of youma nowhere to be found. And so the patrolling senshi and knight were left to try and find conversation. And for Polaris that meant hopefully not uncomfortable conversation. They were friends after all. "Are you getting a job this summer?" She piped up curiously as they ducked into the nearest alley, eyes searching the darkened corridor for signs of life.

Niflhel sighed he was looking for the words to tell her what he'd been thinking about. Wondering if he should tell her the whole truth, if he didn't she'd surely figure it out...
His eyes were lowered as they were walking, he wasn't really looking for trouble either. While they were suppose to be patrolling he wanted to talk to her. "Yes." He replied eventually, "I volunteered for a Park ranger job this summer, near that camp Larkspur, out in the woods. Keep an eye on things and make sure no kids wonder off ya'know?"
It might be their everyday normal awkwardness for her but for him he was searching for how to stay something. He eventually leaned one of the walls of the Alley his eyes were watching her and well, if she was paying attention he didn't really seem to be himself. He didn't mention the parallel cat to her just yet, since well really she wasn't going to be a cat and he didn't want to make things worse just yet. "I think there'll be a few others that I know volunteering as well."

"Oh yeah?" She peeked back, her interest perked. Though her expression was momentarily confused as she noticed him resting against the wall. He received a brief 'Ahemm...' look for his assumed 'laziness', one that he'd probably seen on his grandmother's face a time or two. It faded after a few seconds though. There was pretty obviously nothing around.
"That sounds like a lot of fun actually." A hand rested on her chin as she imagined what it might be like. It was a perfect opportunity with what she was studying for. Only one problem.
"If I knew anything about camp or the woods I might have tried too. But I'd be just as hopeless as the kids when it came to that." Shrugging a little sheepishly, she waved the thought away.
"Atleast I know the kids will be safe with you there."
And then something dawned on her. "Are you.. going to be gone all summer then?" That would be more than just 'fairly' terrible...

Niflhel watched her and nodded. He lofted a brow when she started and that same look his grams gave. However, there was still a stony look on his face that said that wasn't going to work. Assumed laziness or not there wasn't anything out tonight where they were and he wanted to talk to her.
He nodded, "You can come," He added with a shrug, "We could camp out, just 'cause the park rangers cabin is there doesn't mean we couldn't invest in a tent and actually camp. You don't have to know much about the woods..." He added with a roll of his shoulders.
He paused, "Iunno if it'll be all summer... it might be most of this month and a little of next." He titled his head at her curiously watching, "Why do you ask?" He was hoping maybe something she would say could prompt him into what he'd been wanting to say all night.

"Mmm..." She regarded thoughtfully. It was probably true.. there were probably other jobs she could do that wouldn't require her to know things. Maybe even like.. lunch lady. But at the same time ehhh... she didn't like not being in control. If something did happen she wouldn't know what to do at all, and that wasn't help, that was a liability.
She'd just have to focus on her senshi job. And getting everything situated for her transition from Crystal Academy to Destiny City University.
"A tent? No way I'd last a month or longer out in a tent. I may never have been in one but I've seen enough movies to know how tiny they are. With no electricity or water or anything."
"Besides, someone has to keep the streets safe while you're gone."
Why? She paused briefly, thinking over her words before she said them. They were innocent enough. "I'll miss you. A whole summer is.. long. A month is kind of long too but.. I guess there isn't anything that can be done about that."

Niflhel frowned, "We'd be close to the ranger cabin, from what I've seen of it, it has running water and all that jazz... if you'd rather we could stay in that. I'm sure they wouldn't mind."
He sighed, "There's other senshi Polaris and Knights too. It's not like we're the only two. You can come up for a week at least, it's won't kill you... and if it starts getting too icky we could always to go your planet."
He shook his head and looked up, sighing, "I'll miss you too..." He paused, looking at her seriously, "Polaris..." There was a pause and his eyes looked away from her. "I have something to tell you and I... don't really know how to say it." He was rubbing one arm like he slightly embarrassed bringing it up.

A week? Well.. that 'might' be okay. Or it might not.. the thought of not washing her hair with all her special shampoos was unappealing. And what if she got lost? He had a job to do so he wouldn't be able to look over her all the time.
"One day" She offered, lifting her finger to make the point. "I promise I will come for atleast one day. And if it's as wonderful as you seem to think then there is no reason I couldn't extend the trip."
"You're not going to get in trouble for sneaking me in, right?"
His exasperation was obvious. The stress shining clearly through his body language. Sigh... frown.. head shaking. She wasn't really even certain why he was pushing so hard.
And then the words sounded. Something was definately wrong.
Stepping closer she squeezed her fingers into the palms of her hands, fighting between fretting for herself and worrying for him. Was he going to say that he didn't want to see her anymore... that things had gotten too weird? It was a momentary terror, but it was pushed away. He wouldn't be pushing the camp thing if that were the case.
"What's wrong..?" She asked softly, stopping a couple feet away from him.

Niflhel laughed, "Hardly, besides you'll make some new friends if we drop by the camp." He gave a weak smile, "You like friends don't you?" That was always the best thing about camp, while you may never see them again, making friends was the best part.
He paused when she asked what was wrong. "Nothing's... wrong." He gave a pause trying to think of how to word what he wanted to say, why was it so difficult? He leaned his head back to the wall he was leaning on. "I've just... been doing some thinking... after you know things that've happened...."
He paused wrinkled his nose, this was probably a horrible way to say it. "I know I reacted badly to the fact your attack pulls two people together. But you have to realize I wasn't expecting to end up so close and trapped basically. It's a dangerous attack if not used with caution, heh, I was expecting a flower pot to the head really."
He run a hand through his hair giving another frown, "The things on your... home world... planet thing they sorta put stuff in a new light... I found some things on my own...." He paused looking at her, "I... don't really want to make our friendship weirder than it is, and I don't want to lose you as a friend...."
He opened his mouth to speak but the words seemed to choke up, they didn't want to come out. Was he being too lame? He swallowed there was clearly a hint of fear in his eye. "I... think I.... love you." He finally whispered looking down not sure if he wanted to know her reaction.

"It never hurts to make a new friend or two." She agreed softly.
As he spoke her expression shifted from one of concern for him... into worry.. and the into utter confusion. She made little attempt to shield it either. Her lips formed a soft and small o as the words stayed locked within her inability to breath.
He thought he loved her?
After all she'd thought about lately. After all the things she thought she knew about him, about them. I didn't seem possible.. or real.
"Are you.. sure?" She asked softly, stepping closer still. It was a strange question and she hoped he wouldn't take it wrong. But if he said it and then took it back...
A gloved hand reached out towards him, visable even by his downcast gaze.

Niflhel's cheeks had a red ting to them, to say he was embarrassed, was probably the least of things... He was also expecting the worse, until she asked him a question. Are you.. sure?
His honey brown eyes were sitting there watching her, biting his lower lip. He nodded softly. "I can't stop thinking about you..." He added, "It seems like anytime I close my eyes or get a moment alone.... you're all I think about." Even on Saturn it seemed he couldn't get away from her, the thoughts, all of it was following them. He couldn't figure out why though, it was a puzzle that seemed to taunt him.
He shifted watching her, unsure of what she was going to say...

He didn't take the offered hand, but his words gave her enough gumption to take his herself, and she squeezed it tightly. For all his nervousness there was excitement in her. A lifetime of childhood dreams.. a relief of feelings returned even if it was only for a moment.
Her hand literally shivered around his, her eyes wide and bright. "I can't believe.. I'm so..."
So many words.. and so few of them formed cohesive sentences. In the end it was the most simple of words that slipped out of her excited lips. "I love you too Azzo"

He watched as she took his hand, he didn't pull away or flinch this time. He still was unsure watching her as she spoke but didn't finish her sentences. He tugged her closer and wrapped her in a hug he took a small breath before saying anything else.
"You know that Letter you found?" He asked softly, watching her curiously as he waited for her to answer. It'd been bothering him but he supposed he should tell her, it was hers after all. Theirs... he was looking at her wondering if it was just the fact she wanted someone to love her so much that it made her excited.

She let herself be wrapped in his arms and for once she felt perfectly at home. The blush on her face was one of delight not embarrasement. "I never would have known.. I've thought for so long that you weren't.. interested at all."
Her free hand rest on his collar, looking up at him when he spoke again. "The letter?" It was one of the furthest things from her mind. "What about it?"

He smiled slightly, "I was afraid." He said with a soft frown looking at her. "You get hurt once you'll take longer to open up..."
He pause when she asked, giving a nod. "I know who wrote it." He added softly watching her face before giving her a chance to ask who, "I wrote it..." He admit softly, hoping she wouldn't be mad at him for not telling her sooner.

Polaris nodded, recalling all to well how upset he had been when Melody had turned him down. It was no wonder he might have been reluctant. Had either of them even seen Mel again since it had all happened.
Though her brows knitted softly at the admission it wasn't with anger. Her hand did however leave his collar, her eyes drifting away from his own. It was surprising, something that would surely take days to mull over and get her brain wrapped around. It wasn't so much coincidence was it? Somehow, somewhere they seemed to be tethered together by some invisible string, on that stretched throughout time and lifetimes. But she could believe that.. and accept that happily. In fact it made sense why she'd always felt so close to him.
It was something else that had sobered her behavior.
"Just because you loved me.. or rather her in the past. It doesn't mean that you have to love me now.." What if he was just confused? What if he thought he HAD to feel that way?
Her eyes focused on his face, searching for the answer. "Our lives aren't predestined"
