Smith would be lying if he said that he wasn't a little surprised when Audrey contacted him a day after their strange encounter. Not that it was a bad thing that she was trying to keep in contact with people that know their way around the city, it was just that after a bit of meditating on the past day he realized he sounded like a complete a**. Sure, it was little strange that she told him about the ghosts, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized it was completely necessary in the situation she was in.
After a long day at work, Smith was walking home while simultaneously watching the sun light up the sky with the range of colors not uncommon in a beautiful sunset, when he got a phone call from his Medium friend. She was asking to take up his offer on hanging out, sounding a little shaken. Not wanting to pass up the offer of helping a fellow Megalopolite, he gave her his address without a second thought. Though it was a little strange that she called just as the sun was going down, there was nothing he could do about it.
Because the sky was quickly darkening and the streets were still wet from the down pour the day before, he had to settle on some take out Chinese food and some Mexican leftovers in his fridge to serve his guest. Thats the strange thing though, why would she wait until dark to invite herself over, if not for him to get a glimpse of her whispering eye? An outcome he wasn't necessarily hoping for.
Just as he finished microwaving some enchiladas, the building's doorman called up on the landline. "Mr. Robinson, there is a woman here to see you" He spoke in his semi - british and completely neutral tone. "Yeah, send her up."

"Four blocks... four blocks... just keep walking... for four blocks... don't look around... don't! look around... just keep... okay, walk briskly... briskly... no that's too fast, you look awkward... no that's... what the s**t, is this waddling... ******** it just walk... for four blocks..."
It was dark, that was for sure. The sky had turned light shades of purple and orange nearly ten minutes ago, and it was going to turn pitch black even sooner. Surely she had time. Surely at the pace she was going Audrey would make it to Kiyoki's apartment before it got dark out. A quick glance down at the slip of paper in his hands confirmed her weary mind that she still knew where his apartment was, so she just kept her awkward brisk walk-waddle.
A bit later, it was officially night time. Streets lamps came on a long time before, but now they were the only beacons of hope she had in the darkness. Each one lit up a general radius of, oh, ten feet, and the space between each street light was probably thirty feet. That was an estimated ten feet of space she had to lapse back into the dangers of darkness. It was daunting, and Audrey had to admit... it was scary. But, she did her best. She played it out like a game. "Audrey Wake... use the light. It is your safety, it is your salvation. When you are in the light, your wounds will heal, your sanity will return, and nothing can hurt you... Now if only I had a pistol and a flashlight." She thought to herself, playing herself up like Alan Wake from the video game of the same title.
Eventually she made it. The place was unbelievably beautiful, to say the least. She had to admit, she was pretty surprised that Kiyoki lived in such a lavish estate. "Well, damn. He must be a pretty important person around here to live in a place this nice. Or he just... has a really nice job. Or inherited a lot of money. Or stole a lot of money! Oh, man." Audrey spoke quietly to herself, trying to keep herself company and calm her nerves as she made the last few paces through the darkness.
The exterior of the building was definitely lavish. The inside, though; it was like stepping into a Hollywood artist's gallery. It was stunning, to say the least. Audrey looked around in wonder for a bit before spotting a man standing not far off near a desk. She looked down at herself, feeling a bit foolish. She was wearing a creme colored frock with olive-drab colored print, a little black hooded cardigan over it to go along with her onyx jewelry and black cowboy boots. She was in nothing like she should be, being in a place like this. Audrey felt like she needed a Dolce & Gabana ensemble, instead of a faded getup she'd taken out of her "cleans" pile.
"Um... excuse me, sir?" Audrey spoke somewhat softly to the main at the front desk, a bit of anxiety in her voice. The man looked casually over to her and she smiled lightly. "I'm here for Kiyoki Robinson. Could you tell me which apartment is his?" She asked with another smile, to which the man told her to wait a moment as he rung up to Kiyoki. She waited, looking around anxiously, before he told her on to his apartment. She memorized the number he told her, and headed off with her brisk waddle-walk again. She could almost feel his judgement piercing the back of her skull.
She took the stairwell. The elevator was, of course, faster, but... she had issues with the stability. Always has. It took her a minute to even find the elevator, then another minute to find the stairs. Once in the stairwell she stood there a moment and looked up, the door closing behind her with a loud clang. Audrey stepped closer to the metal railing and looked down, darkness swelling from a light out down below. It probably wasn't but one floor down, the basement, but it looked like an eternity of darkness. She turned quickly away and began going up the stairs as quickly as she could -- eventually opting to take three stairs at a time instead of just one. She probably looked like some Sasquatch climbing freak, but it was fast. And effective. And it didn't make her nervous.
Finally, nearly five minutes after the butler guy had told her she could go up, she made it to Kiyoki's apartment. She closed her eyes and thought about the man's voice, making sure that she'd heard the right number. Yes -- yes, she was sure. Letting out a light sigh, she stepped up and rapped on the door. She leaned in and spoke in a somewhat loud voice, "Kiyoki? It's Audrey. I finally made it." Awkward, but effective. That's how she rolled. Audrey stepped back and took in a deep breath to calm her frazzled nerves. She'd just traversed the city at night, spoke to a strength Englishman, and made it up a stairwell with darkness nipping at her backside. But... she knew they were there. Audrey turned to look down the corridor, seeing a few of them standing near the end of the hall. Watching her. Their eyes prying at her soul... she could feel it. She turned back to the door, waiting eagerly for it to open.

Five minutes. It took Audrey five minutes to get to his apartment from the lobby. What, did she get mugged by some poltergeists on the way up? And it isn't like the elevator was broken, seeing as how it was repaired last week.
"Glad you could join us." Smith chuckled as he opened the door to his guest, and any of her ghoul friends that she claimed swarmed to her like bees to honey. "You have a choice of two gourmet cuisines," he reported in a decently joking tone "the highly acclaimed kung-po chicken from Wu Fang Shu's or the aged beef enchilada from Pollo Compero." Smith walked past the table with the food, utensils, and drinks, and flopped down on the couch and flicked off the tv which was playing a "King of Queens" marathon.
"Sorry for dressing so plainly" Smith shrugged as he looked down at his plain white tee and sweat pants, and back at her slightly dolled up and jewelified look "I wasn't quite sure what to wear, but I opted for the extra casual to get out of my business clothes." Though his apology had been half-hearted, he sincerely was sorry. All things considered though, she hadn't really given any indication of this being anything more then a late night chill session.
Picking up his paper plate from on the white / green table in the center of the room, Smith resumed eating his under cooked beef and brocoli stew before he started talking in a muffled voice due to the food in his mouth. "Mi casa, su casa. Just take the boots off at the door."

Audrey let a smile form across her lips as Kiyoki -- or Smith, as she typically forgot to call him -- allowed her inside. The comment about joining "them" was a bit unnerving, but she knew he was just joking. Not even a glance back at her ghoulish followers was given as she let Smith close the door behind her. As he made his way to the food she watched, a blank look on her face. She was not bored, rather unnerved from the ghouls, the dark, and horribly tired from the trip. She just had horrible ways of hiding it. "I'm not really... well, okay." She smiled lightly to him, nodding. When he apologized for his attire she shook her head and looked down at herself. "Oh, no, sorry. I just... spend a lot of time putting outfits and stuff together. Keeps me occupied from looking at anything but... myself." She smirked and nodded, kicking off her boots and walking in to look at the food. It was a pretty simple choice for her; the enchilada. She sat down by the table, taking a bite of the enchilada and smiling. Audrey was a messy eater, at least.
"So... sorry about this. You know, asking to come over so late at night. It's just... the spirits. They tend to get a bit more brave during the night hours. Kinda leaves me a bit on-edge, you know? Well, last night was hell. And there's only so much you can take of people standing around your bed watching you sleep before it just gets downright disturbing," she said with a weak smile, looking back down at her enchilada. She sighed lightly and shrugged. "Sorry. I'm sure you're a bit tired of hearing about my ghost problems. It's just that I'm a bit low on funds, so I can't really buy myself a camera that seems to keep them away. Disposables only work for a little bit before they figure out that there's not much to them. It's the big expensive ones that you have that really scare them. I don't know why."
Odd, but true. And now Audrey knew that Smith would probably put that together as her just wanting to use him for his camera. Which was... in all honesty, partly true. She liked being around him, though, or else she would just keep to herself and deal with it. Of course, Audrey wasn't going to say anything. She'd learned from before that assuming things just made people think you were a crazy crackhead.

By the time she was done talking about how scared she always felt, Smith's brain was teeming with questions about her "power", but she seemed to put up a shield that that stopped him from asking intrusive questions. But, could he really blame her? If he was constantly getting attacked by the undead, he probably would have gone crazy by now, and for that he respected her.
"It's really not a problem." Truth be told, having guests around made the building a whole lot less lonely, seeing as how all his neighbors drove super expensive cars and had gourmet food every night, while he was stuck walking everywhere and had a diet that was made up of doritos and ramen. "You're welcome here anytime" he grinned as he got up to throw away his disposable plate.
The open kitchen, which is connected to the living room, is normally pitch black due to the fact that Smith is a cheapo who doesn't like buying lightbulbs and his powers generate light. So, forgetting that he had a guest, he committed the most dumb-a** act he could in his situation, attempting to light up the lower most cabinets with his abilities. If the sudden bright red light emitting from the kitchen wasn't enough to alarm his already forever paranoid guest, the smoke alarm going off from the ball's sudden change to heat energy definitely would.
Excuses definitely were not going to work in this situation, his guest wasn't dumb after all, so all that he could do was play it cool. "Yeah, I'm a genetic deviant, what are you gonna do about it?"

Audrey smiled. "Thanks..." she said somewhat quietly, going back to eating her messy enchilada. She just sat there, eating, looking around the living room. She could feel the spirits outside the apartment, still looking at her, but at least they weren't in there. They would not come in with Smith's camera around. Or maybe it was something else they were afraid of.
Suddenly a blast of flames shot out of the kitchen. Audrey jumped, nearly tossing her enchilada, and looked wide-eyed over towards Smith. When the smoke alarm started going off she started to freak out a bit, but seeming Smith playing it cool she tried not to over-react too much. She just set the enchilada down on the table in front of her, her arms shaking visible, and turned to look at Smith. "It's alright. You need help with that, or are they going to send up firemen?" She asked with a smirk, taking her bag off and setting it on her chair as she got up and walked over to the kitchen. Audrey looked up at the smoke alarm, looking around for a moment before climbing up on the counter and reaching up to pull the smoke detector off the wall. It was tricky, but she got it and the battery out so that it would stop making noise. She sighed and hopped down off of the counter, setting the device down.
She leaned against the counter and scratched her head with her fingers for a bit, closing her eyes to focus her mind. Thinking about the situation, it seemed absurd. Smith had just gone into the kitchen, a sudden flame appeared and set off the smoke detector, and he was not freaking out. Obviously he was a fire elemental. Or... something along those lines. Which was interesting, at least. More interesting than seeing spirits. Must have been more useful, at least.
Audrey turned to Smith. "Okay... You injured? We good?" She asked, unsure of if he got burned or anything. She imagined not, considering she also imagined he created the thing, but... she was paranoid, it was what she did.

Audrey acted surprisingly level headed for someone who sees ghosts on a more than regular basis. In fact, she was acting cooler than Smith would have if someone had just nearly burnt down a condo with him still in it. The weirdest thing though, was that she didn't seem the slightest bit interested in his abilities. Either she was extremely self absorbed, coming to his house just to drawl on about her ghost problems, or she was super hands off and had a bygones-be-bygones look on life. One would guess thats just what happens when you move to the city of Megalopolis, a place probably teeming with more ghosts than Ireland after the famine.
"Yeah I'm good" Smith started, still more startled by her calm reaction "but you aren't the least bit curious?" he asked with a puzzled look on his face. She had honestly been the fourth person to find out about his powers, and it honestly felt really weird to have her know. So weird in fact, he was afraid he might have to kill her, but he soon wrote it off as just to much tv. Still, the situation was new to him, and he wasn't sure if he was liking the feeling of someone knowing his secret.
Admittance is supposed to be the last step in a situation such as the one he was in, but for an odd reason it turned around into anger. How could he be so stupid as to use his powers with a guest over? What if she turned out to really be crazy? His boss, despite all of his pro-power articles, wasn't to fond of supers and he might have just lost his job. Not to mention the few times hes walked on the dark side. If someone were to connect the powers to the man to the crime, he would be screwed. ----- cabinet wasn't actually on fire, hehehe.

She nodded quickly as Smith told her he was good. When he asked if she was curious, she stopped and looked down, thinking. She turned back to him finally and a big smile formed across her face. "I wasn't going to say or assume anything, since last time I did that you called me a crackhead. But, now that I'm near a hundred percent positive... yes, I am very curious." She said with a smile, before turning slowly back to the living room. "Can we sit again, though? I'm feeling a bit light-headed..." She kind of stumbled over to the living room area, flopping down on a couch and sprawling out like she'd just died. She closed her eyes and laid her head back for a few moments. As things started to come to a halt and stop spinning she looked back to Smith.
"Sorry, Tried to keep my cool too long." Audrey chuckled and straightened up a bit, wiping some of the sweat off her forehead with the end of her dress. "So, um... let me guess. Fire elemental, right?" She smiled looking up at him. "That would be so useful... a lot more useful than seeing spirits. Probably would have made life out in the..." she trailed off, looking down for a moment before looking back at him, smiling. "So was I right?"

"Yeah..." Smith sighed, rubbing the back of his head in response to Audrey's joke about assumptions "Sorry about that." He hadn't meant to be rude when he accused her of hitting the blow, its just his natural hipster-esque view of the world, that forces him to find flaws in people, places, and things. Maybe it would just be better if he had nominal aphasia like that patient on House, at least then people wouldn't know what exactly he was criticizing.
Blackouts and dizzy spells are never a good sign after eating a week old enchilada, and a dead woman was definitely something he did not need in his apartment, so after her little 15 minutes of fame among her loyal and devoted fans, Smith was a bit more than relieved when Audrey came to. "Does that happen alot? 'Cause you might want to get that checked out" he laughed loudly, in an almost gaudy fashion, in an attempt to lighten the mood, and simultaneously save his own a** in case he had given her food poison with his unskilled cooking hands. "No, fire elementals are bums." he said with a smug look on his face, almost insulted that she underestimated him to such a low degree "I am able to combine particles of energy from around me into anything I can imagine. So yeah, much more badass then a 'Prince Zuko' wannabe." All the while he was making a dragon dance in his hand, as it changed from a vivid purple to a bright green that radiated slivers of light.

Audrey smiled at his joke about her nearly passing out. She shrugged, not really sure how to answer. It's not like she just got dizzy and about fell over all the time, just when she was under a lot of stress. And from the things she'd seen as of late, that was a whole ton of stress. In that regard she sort of figured that, yes, in fact, it did happen quite a bit. Audrey merely ignored it though and pressed on.
Her mouth fell open and she glared at Smith as he said that fire elementals were bums. "I would much rather be able to produce flames at will than I would be able to see ghouls." She sighed and sat back on the couch, folding her arms over her chest. If he had grown up the way she had then he would probably understand why she had so much admiration for fire elementals. Or people that could reproduce their own cells. That would have been extremely helpful, as well.
Regardless, she let it go.
"I have to admit, that is pretty... pretty. Though from your little incident it seems like you could learn to control your ability a bit, too. So, see. Make fun of me all you want for being a wacked-out medium, but at least I'm not an uncontrollable pyro." She smirked as she finished, almost feeling proud of herself for what she'd just said. Yes, she had most likely just insulted Smith, but at least it was humorous. To her, at least. Besides, he made fun of her since they'd first met.

Smith had never meet a fire elemental that wasn't crazy, an a*****e, or bent on beating the s**t out of him. In fact, about a year ago, he was mugged by a gang of these self fulfilling pyros for no reason. Then on top of that, a month later he had to go interview a few in jail for a terrorist attack. Of course, in the back of his mind, he knew it was wrong to stereotype them that way, but at the same time, you only learn from experience. So naturally he was confused when Audrey acted like they were the greatest people on earth, but he didn't press the issue, just in the same way as he could tell she was straining to not tell him off for his supposed act of treason against the fire nation.
Audrey's joke might not have been funny, a little to much insult and to little smiling, but he still laughed out loud. Making jokes about him was definitely the first sign of trust, at least in his eyes, and he would definitely play off that knowledge in the future. A future that may be longer than expected, due to the darkness of the sky and the fact that she was still in his house.
"But you have to promise that you won't tell anyone." His face was as straight and as devoid of laughter and sarcasm as it had ever been. He wasn't about to threaten this woman, someone he had to make sure trusted him, so he wasn't very sure of what to do, besides beg.

There was a very short period of silence following their combined laughter. It was enough that, as she eyed Smith over, she could tell that he was... bothered, to say the least. Audrey just kept her smile, attempting a poker face, but felt like she should apologize. She needed Smith a lot more than he needed her. Telling him off in his own home would just end terribly for her, in more ways than one.
When he spoke in a very serious manner, she just stared at him for a moment before nodding. "I won't tell a soul. Literally." She said, kind of finding a pun within what she said right after she said it. But she did not smirk or smile; just had the same stern, unbending expression on her face that Smith had thrown at her. Though something was bothering her. The fact that he was hiding his abilities made her all the more curious as to if he was the masked man she had met on two missions already. Once she worked with him, tracking down a thief. Next she was fighting against him, trying to protect a jewel... If Smith was this man -- and they had the same ability -- was she with a friend, or a foe?
Glancing just past Smith answered her questions. For the worst. She had not noticed it before, somehow, but there was a mask lying on the floor, hidden from other angles by a box. It was the exact same mask that she had seen the masked man wear in both instances. Her eyes narrowed as she looked back at Smith.
"Power 3000." That's all she said, as she looked him deep in the eyes.

Smith often lost sleep thinking about this moment, the moment when someone would put two and two together to get 3000. But despite all his mental planning for this moment, in which he had always figured he would just shrug it off and deny it, he did the exact opposite of what seemed like the most logical thing to do. He told her the truth. "Yes. And you are Lady Limelight." There was no denying the fact that they knew each other's identities if they were going to continue to see each other as friends. Sure he may have tried to rob a major museum, but in the end he also helped track down a major thief and invite her over to keep her from going insane.
He broke her gaze, it was to intense. "Look, I know we may not have gotten off on the right foot at the Museum, but you have no idea what was at stake." He walked over the mask, put it on his face and continued talking, "Plus, its not like I'm the only masked mercenary"
