it was a handsome, wide roof top that made for an excelent space to train, sweeping low kicks to disarm and knock back opponents, punches delivered to open air for no reason better than he should know them...even if he didn't like to turn and see that side of himself.

Better...there was at the heart of it a simple green house, it had soft low green lights in the evening, that permitted him to see inside, it was 'fancy', filled with enough Orchids that Even Nero Wolf of Literary Detective fame would have had to have given a nod.

He SHOULD have been practicing still, but after a few kicks and a glance over his notes his thoughts had wandered again and he found himself standing by the warm glass, his fingers brushing at it as he stared at the humidity dappled blossoms within. A perfect crystal cage... thoughts stirred in his chest that he refused to face any more than his temper.

"You've been getting better. I guess I shouldn't really be proud but some things just sorta come to you." Leaning on the glass at the opposite end of the greenhouse was the faintly glowing Knight of Mercury who had once been Zinkenite's mentor and captain. As always she had gone out into the city, not expecting much of anything or anyone to cross her path, and had all but stumbled into the lap of the Negaverse.

It seemed that Lina was destined to never really escape her former comrades. Not that she really wanted to, no. That was Castor's wish for her, that his wife would stop messing entirely with the forces of darkness and be content to let him wage war for them both.

That was about as likely to happen as the sun never coming up again.

So she had lurked in the shadows of the rooftop behind the glass housing those lovely orchids and watched him go through the forms. Remembered how he had been so reluctant to learn how to fight and how she'd cajoled him into it. He had gotten better.

He froze like a wild animal, startled by either predator or prey, it was hard to say which, he was not quite a 'mouse' but neither was he anything as clearly dangerous as Tanzinite... or even Ares.

He shouldn't even speak to her, he should fight her... knock her out and drag her back... or kill her. Something... anything... just something that would make him feel less as though they were standing on two sides of some great cage, and perhaps neither of them would ever know who was the one 'trapped'.

"How much could you possibly care...." he said his eyes narrowing, though they lacked the better part of the malice in his words. "You... who would rather be a traitor to the cause... Theirs so much you have forgotten, and so much more you just never -saw-"

Normally the bluenette would have rolled her eyes at the theatrical drama in Zink's tone but all she could feel was an endless well of regret. "Just because I'm, what was it, a traitor to a cause that I obviously know so little about doesn't mean I don't care whether you live or die." Amber eyes stared straight down into his midnight ones. "I care quite a lot."

Arms remained folded over her chest as she leaned against the glass and regarded him. "I don't like that you would still go killing innocents without a second thought just because that's what they told you was best. But if someone attacks you I would like that you could defend yourself." Now the eyes rolled and a mocking smile came out.

"Though you're a lofty General of the Negaverse and can teleport with a thought. I guess you don't need my concern or anything these days huh? Would you like me to hold still so you can cut my head off and go running back to Beryl with it? I thought better of you." Zink had been her greatest hope for making someone see reason. Memories still were missing but there was just something.

Obviously, once again, her hope was misplaced.

he clapped slowly, the muffled sound of gloved hands striking each other. "Oh yes... that would be me...the blood thirsty killer you have always known and trained ... that's why the first thing I did when I saw you was attack." He scowled and his tone darkened from sarcasm to bitter again.

"You even sound just like him...will you replace your old work with killing us then? Is that why you came so you can preach PEACE and then start -slitting throats, or are you just here to try and use me to validate your choices.... you picked the one you cared for most...GO back to him....unless you want to keep trying to pretend you care only to follow it up with the 'party line' again."

A snort escaped the knight as her hand waved theatrically. "Oh yeah I've always been one for blood and gore. You've been hanging around Tanzanite haven't you? She just delights in the gore. I like clean deaths and you know it. Hand in, hand out, walk away." She almost added on at the end that she couldn't do such a thing any longer but no. Information was as much a weapon as anything either of them could carry.

Zink didn't need more weapons.

"Personally I hoped to have a little bit of a chat but you don't seem to be feeling anything other than extremely bitter. Not that I entirely blame you but...I do at the moment. Call me unfair. No really, go for it." Babbling was always a sign of tension and her shoulders were taut with it.

Would he really attack her?

"no, not around the new General Queen left to Die...I had another teacher and I miss her. She... Was the only one I ever -stooped- to bloody another for." he paused with narrowed eyes. "I should have done what I promised you I would when I had the chance. One good nail through one head or... Well, I wonder if you would have loved him as much then."

He wanted her to hurt like he did, words were the weapons to inflict the damage, trying to pluck angry cords in her heartstrings to the ends he desired.

Knees locked in anger and a foot stepped forward in outrage before Lina regained control of herself and tightened hands on her arms. "Oh yeah, I'm a slave to the c**k. I would have loved him without it, though I don't think his pride would have survived it." A long moment of silence and then a sigh.

"I know Tanz thinks I abandoned her to Ares, that I would have rather escaped the Negaverse than come and save her. It's not true. You would know!" A fist smacked against a pane of glass so that it cracked under her glove-covered hand. "You knew didn't you? When I was in that hospital room and wondering why she wouldn't come see me anymore you knew. You all knew! And I...I went to get myself killed so she would finally believe that I was strong enough!" The bluenette's voice rose and rose.

"So it's not my fault that she suffered. It's all of yours. Because none of you told me!"

"You would LOVE to believe that wouldn't you." He said, venom returning in full to his voice, he wasn't pulling strings now, no, this time his had been tugged. "You...YOU were so -weak- that you chose death over fighting... you chose to DIE to prove you were STRONG?!" He spat and pushed his hand hard over the cracked glass till it caught and tore at his glove, pushing it inward till it cracked and popped free, releasing a rush of warmer air and showering the delicate flowers within with broken glass.

"Do you realize...how STUPID that sounds? What happened to the CAPTAIN I knew, the one who ASSESSED her challenges, realized when she wasn't strong enough and -asked- for HELP. When did she become so BLIND and prideful and AFRAID that rather than stand on her own she went to have someone BEAT an opinion into her... beat an ALLEGIANCE into her..."

he held up a hand to her, the palm of the glove tattered and his palm bleeding from shallow cuts. "Oh look...it's YOUR fault, you didn't WARN me... you didn't TELL me I'd have to pick one side or the other of the ******** GLASS.... you can't have your Castor and your Tanzinite too...you CHOSE, You chose to ABANDON US by -DEATH- or by your... KIGHTHOOD..." he spat

He did something then he would never have done in a moment in which he were rational, not to her.. not even now. But this wasn't rational, this was emotion, and he hadn't ever dealt with it well.

He swung at her, a slap, not as dangerous say as a fist but he aimed that bloodied palm to leave a doubly red mark across her perfect cheek.
"Is that what it takes?! We have to BEAT it into you that we CARE!?" He didn't even have the wit to correct himself that he should have said cared, should have distanced himself from her because she left their world.

With heat and anger behind the slap it had Lina staggering two steps to the side in surprise, eyes wide. For as long as she could remember, Zink had never lifted his voice or his hand to her and now he had just done both. There was a ragged, gasping laugh of bitter amusement before her eyes turned to look at him. "Soon you'll start to understand that there's not a thing you can do. You can study them all you want, try to find the angles, and then you realize that none of it makes sense. Not a damn thing."

Linarite's eyes had always been just a little too soft for the Negaverse. It was one of the reasons Tanzanite had tried to beat her. She had to beat out the softness. Now the softness was gone and her amber eyes were harder than diamonds as she looked at Zinkenite with all of her anger and confusion that she was suppressing so hard.

"But if you want to fight me so you can feel better, I'll do it." Rushing forward her fist slammed into Zink's stomach, scouter sliding into place over her eye as her free hand brushed past it. "You call me blind? No. I'm not blind anymore. Now I can see how wrong this all is and I'm going to fix it. One person at a time."

He doubled over, the fist driving the air out of him in a harsh explosion of breath and watering eyes, he staggered, folded over and weak kneed for a moment as anger mingled with indignation and pain. "You keep saying.... all these things..." He wheezed as he fought to recover his breath, he called forth his smoke pellets and squeezed them in his already bloodied hand.

"You say them to me... but ... you....you're the one who needs to justify...." he staggered to one side, trying to put the damaged green house between him and her for a moment till he could recover.

"You can't see -anything- until you see yourself clearly." He managed and coughed, staggered away again trying to hide his location not knowing that she could pinpoint him.

"I... will prove you wrong. I... will be Everything you -could- have been... I -swear it." He said listening for her in the smoke. He had only his senses to rely on, hearing, smell... touch meant she was too close but it was as good a sense as any. He paused listening...searching for his prey.

Coughing and struggling to keep her eyes open in the stinging smoke Lina peered through her scouter. It had worked with Castor but she had never tried it through something like a smoke screen. Would it still work? There was a little humming in her head that signified Zinkenite had not fled but where was he? It was when she looked straight across from herself on the other side of the greenhouse that her scouter picked up on the blob of shape that was his personal energy.

"Gotcha." It was a quiet whisper as she moved on the balls of her feet, crouching before throwing all of the strength she could into her legs to leap up. There was time only for a quick gulp of clear air before she came down again, rolling and trying to get around the corner. Her voice rang out loud and clear, hoping to distract.

"I don't need to justify anything. You want me to but I won't. You wouldn't like my answers even if I tried to give them." It made her sad to think that he thought he could be what she 'could have been'. She could have been dead. She could have been broken. There were no other options.

"Zink, you never saw me clearly. I'm sorry." Arms wrapped around his head from behind, trying to lock him in against her.

What?!? How had she found him?! More than that how had she done it so quickly?!! She was quick and able and had the ever important element of surprise on her side as well. She pinned him close in a headlock with him grappling at her arm to escape.

"I never saw YOU clearly?!" the irony of the statement was as good as her punches. "i'm not the one who LAUGHED over a confession." he snarled. He didn't care if she remembers or not, it would never change the hurtful innocence and oblivion in her sunny laugher. "let.... Go" he said realizing his initial struggles in her grip were futile. He lacked the angle to apply his strength and being held so tight by her was.... Dangerous perhaps.

Confused by what she had laughed at, and what he had confessed, Lina pushed that aside and concentrated on his request to be let go. It was puzzling that he was neither truly fighting her, nor had he teleported away. Was he forgetting that or did he have something else in mind? It was all so very, very confusing, not being able to trust someone you obviously cared about.

So as her arms loosened one shot down and yanked at the chain around his waist. It wasn't made to withstand something of her strength and while it did spin him around to face her finally, it also snapped. The smoke was clearing now and she was back far enough out of his reach that they were both safe from each other.

"I let you go but now I hold the key." It was stupid wordplay but he could clearly see the moon and ambient light around them reflecting off the dull silver of the key. "But just tell me Zink...you could have teleported out. Why didn't you?" Having never tried to teleport with someone holding on, Lina couldn't have possibly known about the restrictions.

"You've held more than that key for some time now." He said dipping his head enigmatically, his pale blue stare narrowed to icy slivers. "But if you have to ask those questions, the key is worthless still." he held up one arm, twisting his sleeve out to show her the emblem of the lock that graced his sleeve. "...care to take another chance?" He offered, it could have been taken many ways...threatening, an offer... hard perhaps to say, and then he vanished.

Appearing again well within arms reach his hand darted up and forward almost carelessly snagging at one of the slender fragile chains around her neck, it broke with far less resistance than his own, the silvery thread of the links looping around his fingers as he pulled backwards, almost a dance more than a dodge away.

"You gave you're locks and keys away a long time ago... I know that, but this I think will do." He said and let his own gaze drift to the key that she now clutched, the small red gem glinted almost black in the evening light and he shook his head. "At least this time... you aren't laughing."
