Neil the Cyndaquil!

User Image

He's sweet, really...
PostPosted: Thu Jun 09, 2011 2:04 pm

Species or number: Cyndaquil
Character Name: Neil (meaning ‘champion’, also ‘cloud’ and ‘passionate’.)
Nature: Quirky
Ability: Flash Fire – the user is immune to Fire-type damage and powers up Fire-type moves if activated.

Skill Set: Inferno – deals damage and always burns the target if it hits.
Smokescreen – lowers the foe’s accuracy.
Reversal – inflicts greater damage when the user’s HP is lower.
Swift – inflicts damage and hits a target no matter what (unless the target has used Dig, Fly, or Protect)

Personality:
Enthusiastic (positive) – Neil doesn’t believe in doing things half-heartedly, and has a great passion in particular for learning and exploration. He wants to see the world and do things that no one else has ever done before, and most importantly, he wants to be remembered. Life has no meaning if there’s nothing to remember a person by, and the thought of being forgotten, quite simply, frightens him. He’s dedicated his young life to trying to find something that will make him memorable, and is unfailingly optimistic about his goal. Whenever he meets someone who is also passionate about something, he can’t help but feel invigorated all over again, and he firmly believes that anything is possible with enough hard work and dedication. He could very well be your tiny cheerleader, if you asked him nicely!

Resourceful (positive) – The boy is sharp. He’s quick to take in details, and his memory is keen—but he doesn’t always trust himself to remember things correctly. He’s been known to embellish details in the past. So, for this reason, he carries a pad of paper and a pen with him at all times (now that he’s human!), and can be found frantically taking notes about... well, everything. He constantly flips back through these notes as a reference, and consults them to figure out how to handle different types of situations. Any and all advice is appreciated, of course, and he feels like one can never learn too much. Did you know that yeast is actually bacteria that helps bread rise? Or that some plants actually need to be trimmed to grow better? Or how about the fact that water boils faster if you put a lid on it??? Because of this trait, he tends to know a lot of random, useless bits of knowledge. They’ll all come in handy one day, right? No, not really, but just let him pretend...

Inexperienced (neutral/negative) - Neil is a young, but intelligent man whose sense of curiosity can rarely be sated. He’s constantly asking questions. Why do things work the way they do? Why are people different from another? What makes things tick? In truth, he has very little knowledge about both the outside world and the human one. Fortunately, he picks up on things quickly, and is almost greedy in his desire to learn and understand new information. Still, he is painfully naïve about most things, but gladly pursues his quest for knowledge with a ‘trial and error’ type of mentality. He can’t ever learn anything if he doesn’t try, right? Of course, that could very well lead to pain, and Neil’s not very eager to experience that ever again. The phrase ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ is not one he appreciates, at all.

Flusters Easily (negative) – Now that he’s on his own in the wide, open world, Neil likes to seem in control of himself and his surroundings. Whenever he’s confronted with a new situation, the first thing he tends to do is flip through his notepads, searching for any relevant information. When he can’t find any... well, he actually starts to panic a little. What’s he supposed to do?! He’s never going to become a famous anything at this rate! It’s very easy to pull the wool over his eyes when he gets into this state; he’s honestly so grateful for anyone to help that all of his logical sense goes right out the window.

*new* Nosy (neutral) - His insatiable curiosity for new knowledge has led to the boy being, well, rather oblivious to social norms and customs. He sees nothing wrong with inserting himself into a conversation, or asking blunt, pointed questions. This can both be good for making new friends (if they don't mind answering questions), or bad if the person has little tolerance for a stranger trying to dig around in their personal life.

Strengths:
Sneaky – Though he may be inexperienced and fairly naïve about how things work in the world, Neil isn’t stupid. He’s been forced to learn how to read people to a degree, and has figured out that people rarely do things out of the kindness of their hearts. They normally want something in return. Of course, if someone skilled in manipulation came along, Neil could be tricked without difficulty—but he knows better than to lay his cards on the table. Rather than show off and act like a know-it-all with strangers, he plays up his youth, acting cute and perhaps a little dumb in order to be underestimated. Then, if things get ugly, he can quickly use Smokescreen and get the heck out of a bad situation very quickly. His light, slender, “adorable” frame is all but made for speed at this point, so fleeing is his specialty!

Weaknesses:
Inexperienced –As stated before in his personality, Neil doesn’t know much about either the human or the pokemon world. He’s lived a very sheltered life, and that combined with his ability to grow flustered and panicked when presented with new situations—well, he’s an easy target. He also tends to be a bit of a coward, and threatening people can intimidate him into fleeing and abandoning his companions to the wolves. He’s definitely not proud of this fact, and if anyone confronts him on why he didn’t stay and fight, they’re likely to see a surprising bit of temper from the normally mild, cheery Cyndaquil. For this reason, his dependability as a friend can be debatable.

History:

His story is perhaps not as unique as others’, but it is his to tell, and that in itself is enough to make it original. Most of his life was spent within a pokeball, and though it was a dark, inane sort of place, it was safe, and quiet, and warm. It was not the most desirable life, but the small Cyndaquil hardly knew better. Little did he know, he was a lab pokemon, and would one day be given to a young boy or girl to serve as their first, faithful companion and guardian. That day came sooner than expected, and he became a bright-eyed, eager child’s new partner.

Though initially the Cyndaquil was timid towards his new trainer, her enthusiasm to venture out into the world was infectious, and he found himself wide-eyed with wonder at all of the possibilities that lay before them. Suddenly, there was purpose in his life, and the newly formed pair ventured out into the wide and open world. Unfortunately, it became quickly apparent that there were already problems at hand. Their first wild pokemon encounter went badly—the first blow was enough to send the Cyndaquil scurrying in terror.

Perhaps it was because their bond was too new, too fragile. The girl was overly excited and couldn’t quite understand the depth of her new pokemon’s dislike for fighting. Again and again, she tried to push him, and the Cyndaquil couldn’t find the means to communicate that it didn’t want to fight at all! So, eventually, the fire-type did the only thing it could—it ran. The girl’s anguished cries chased him deep into the woods, but he didn’t stop running. Only exhaustion finally sent the Cyndaquil crashing to the ground, and, miserable, the tiny pokemon curled up into a ball and lamented to himself. For several days afterward, he continued to wander the forest, cold, tired, and miserable.

The clouds eventually opened up so it could pour, and the fire-type was forced to hastily seek shelter. Only there was he able to, eventually, drift off into uneasy slumber.

Neil would accept Musharna’s offer for a few, simple reasons. If he was a human being, no one would force him to fight against his will ever again. He would be free to pursue his dreams of exploration and knowledge-hunting without interruption. Also, in his new form, the little Cyndaquil could begin to build self-confidence in himself and, eventually, he’ll be able to learn how to confront his problems instead of running away from them.

That you for adding his Neutral personality Attribute. He's fine to create a journal for now.
