A black kitten was sitting in a cardboard box that read "Free to Good Home" on the side. It seemed it was waiting for someone; in fact, most of the people passing didn't seem to see it at all. And if one didn't know better, they would have said it was intentional. The kitten was--well, adorable. Long fluffy black hair and blue eyes that seemed almost--human. Intelligent and bright, it's eyes had rounded pupils instead of the usual slitted ones cats were known for.
He was waiting for someone. A certain purple haired someone. It wasn't that the kitten was especially fond of her--well, he was, but that wasn't something he liked to admit. He put his head and paws out of the box, looking distinctly adorable.
And only one girl could see him. He hoped she came out soon.

The girl came out of the store, her smile brighter than the sunlight that was warming the air with it's summery touch. One hand held the small plastic bag of chocolates and candies she'd just purchased, the reason for her trip out to the store. She couldn't have been happier! Caramel bars, toffee nut crunch, jaw breakers, lollipops, pop rocks and soda....what more could she ask for? Well, her question was answered; her eyes locked on the little critter in the box. The poor thing! She glanced around; the poor kitty was here all by himself?
She offered the kitten a warm smile, gently lifting it out of the box with the ease of a pro. "Hey there...what are you doing out here all by yourself?" she asked, her voice a soft murmur as she snuggled the kitten. "Must be scary, being all alone out here. But don't you worry; I'll take good care of you." She smiled, hugging the kitten gently as she started back on her way home. Wait till she showed Momma her new friend!

Howl gave a mew as he spotted Jaella as she exited the store, hopping she would notice him. It appeared he needn't have tried. She had seen him anyway. He broke out into a loud purr as he was liffed out of the box and snuggled. This was just what he had wanted. Jaella would take him to where ever it was Darcy lived; and then he could demand to know when she was planning on bringing his son to Gaia. She had brought Sophie, yes--but he wanted Morgan. And everytime he brought the subject up, she somehow got out of it.
The wizard turned cat nuzzled the purple haired living gps and, for good measure, licked her cheek with his sandpapery tongue. It'd been a while since he'd been a cat--and that had been an accident, so he hadn't gotten into the character. His purring increased as Jaella walked--figuring she would be headed home.
Hopefully she was.

Jaella smiled at the kitten's purr, gently petting it's little head. Friendly little critter, wasn't he? A small giggle came from the girl as her new kitteny friend licked her cheek; aww, what a cutie! "Hmm...you're going to need a name, aren't you?" she pondered, looking down at her new little bundle of fur. "Hmm...I think I'll name you Blackberry. How's that sound?" she asked, grinning. She thought it was a splendid name for a kitten; it sounded so cute! "We'll get you a collar and nametag tomorrow, but for now, let's head home. Momma and Daddy will get worried if we're gone too long."
Completely oblivious to who she was carrying in her arms and snuggling, she made her way through the streets and eventually out of the city, towards the Durem Caves. She scaled the cliffside with relative ease, quite used to this path. "Hold on, kitty. We'll be home before you know it!"

If kittens could wrinkle their noses, Howl was certainly doing so. He hadn't figured on Jaella giving him a name and certainly not one as bad as 'blackberry'. He liked blackberries! He didn't think he'd like being called anything other than his name. He paused in his purring and softly hissed to express displeasure. He wasn't ready to speak to her yet; he wanted to get into the house. He wanted to talk to Darcy.
He wanted his son. He purred when she mentioned home; yes, yes! Couldn't she go faster? He gave an impatient mew and swiped at her cheek without extending his claws.

Jaella blinked as the kitten hissed, then snugged it. "Alright, kitty. I get it; you don't like the name. But don't worry! I'll think of a better one, one you'll like." she assured her new furry friend, planting a kiss on the top of the kitten's head. "Hm...how about Arcane? You look like an Arcane to me." She had no idea just how fitting the magical name was for her new little friend. She giggled as the kitten batted at her cheek, gently petting it with her free hand. "Don't worry; we'll get home soon, and you can meet your new friends and family."
After quite a ways of walking and snugs, the pair were in the maze of caves. The dark, scary maze of caves in which the far off skittering, screeches, and roars of creatures echoing through the caverns. But, Jaella didn't seem to mind. In fact, she giggled. "Looks like someone's feeling talkative." she said before breaking off into whistling. Off in a side tunnel, something large and crouched filled the tunnel, shifting slightly; a flash of fur, scales, and dragonic wings, a low rumbling purr shaking the ground as Jaella carried her new kitten by, waving to the large creature without stopping.

Arcane? Now that was more like it. Howl voiced his pleasure with the name by purring loudly and rubbing his cheek against her. He was quite content to curl up in her arms and fall asleep for quite a ways--but as they reached the maze of cave of dark--scary things, he started to get upset. He clung to her shirt with all four sets of claws, blue eyes wide with fear. He scrambled up to her shoulder and hid in her hair, shaking like a leaf, mewling pitifully.
He seemed absolutely oblivious to the fact that his claws had sunk into more than just shirt material--poor Jaella. Howl made a screech of his own as they passed something large--something scarily large, something that filled the tunnel. Something that resembled a monster of Greek mythology (Howl didn't have time, nor the will to figure out what it was, exactly). He mewed in hopes Jaella would get the point.
Couldn't she hurry up and get them to her home?

Jaella winced, gasping as tiny claws dug into her skin as her new little Arcane clambered up her shoulder and into her hair. She paused, hand raising to rub where the claws had dug in a bit deeper. "That hurt..." she murmured as she continued, hand still working at her arm and shoulder. She didn't get why her new friend was so scared; it was just another kitty. A huge, carnivorous type of kitty, but a kitty none the less. Her hand moved from her arm to the kitten, giving it a reassuring pet on the head. "Hey, hey, it's alright...nothing's going to hurt you here."
It took the better half of an hour to make it through the maze of twisting caverns, with many creatures of the darker sort passed and greeted, some by name. At the end of the tunnel was a light; the exit! Jaella giggled, skipping out into the sunlight and making her way down the grassy cliff side into the vast open field. The area was huge, enclosed by cliff side around all the sides, the only entrance and exit being the maze. There was enough room for a wooded area, a field, and even a lake. Smack dab in the center of this was the house; a large, two-story Victorian-esque house. It wasn't in the best of shape, but it wasn't shabby, either. "We're here!" Jaella chirped, running headlong through the tall grass towards the house, giggling.
"Momma! Daddy! I'm home!" Jaella called out as she walked into the house, kicking her shoes off at the door. "And I've brought a new friend!" ? Darcy looked up from the book she'd reading, sighing. "Not another one...Jaella, didn't we have a little discussion on no more animals?" she sighed, her tone exasperated.
Aaron, who was currently being used as a pillow, just chuckled. As if a talk would stop the girl....

Darcy had given Jaella talks about no more animals? That was laughable. Even Howl knew the purple haired girl's love for all things creepy--the wizard himself might have offered her a spider or two--or three, if he was sure none of her other creatures would eat them. "Nice place," he commented, in a high pitched, scratchy voice. "Aww, Darcy. I'm not just any animal. Can't she keep me?" The kitten paused, and moved out of Jaella's hair to look at Darcy.
"You look comfortable," he observed, jumping down from Jaella's shoulder and landing neatly on his feet. "Not so sure about Aaron."

Jaella blinked, eyes widening in surprise as the kitten started talking. Her Arcane could talk? She hadn't known that! If she had, she would have asked him if he already had a name! She glanced from the kitten to Mom, biting at her lower lip. Maybe Momma would let her keep him, since he was a talking kitty? She hoped so; she was already sure her and her new friend were going to have oodles of fun!
Darcy frowned as soon as the kitten started talking. That frown deepened into a scowl as soon it said their names. Something fishy was a foot. "How do you know our names?" she asked, her tone calm. "And no, she can't. We have enough animals to care for as is, thank you very much."

"Would it help if I wasn't an animal?" Howl asked, with a tilt of his furry black head. Pointed ears twitched, and his tail gave a playful swish. He rubbed up against Jaella's legs once, before standing on his hind legs. He morphed, slowly, from cat to teenager. The black haired boy smirked at Darcy, before flashing Jaella a wink.
"Darcy. The sun could never outshine your beauty," He moved to take her hand, and instead of kissing it, bent and kissed her cheek. "I've missed you, during our time apart. I know you've felt the same way. And now, I'm here, come to declare my love for you. ...Haven't you figured out how to bring Morgan yet?"

Jaella let out a surprised little gasp as her kitten turned into...Howl? Uh ohs... The purple haired teen took a cautionary step backwards, just knowing how mom was going to react.
Jaella's assumptions were correct. The instant the wizard returned to his human form, the girl jerked up from her sitting position, her book slammed shut as she slapped the boy, a snarl escaping her lips. "Howell..." she hissed, the name spat out. "What the hell are you doing in my house?" Oh, she livid. She stood to her feet, fists clenched. Narrowed green eyes glanced to Jaella before looking back to Howl. "Jaella, to your room. NOW. We'll talk about this later, but until then, consider yourself on time-out."
Jaella looked horrified. Time-out? But time-out was for bad girls! And she was a good girl, really she was! "But Momma, I - " She tried to explain, to argue her case, but was cut off by one look from her mom. Ears drooped as the girl turned, obediently heading to her room.

"I was invited," Howl insisted, rubbing at his cheek. "Did you really have to do that? Now I'll have a bruise for weeks. And you shouldn't have punished her, really. Honestly, don't you know anything about parenting? I tricked her. She didn't know it was me. I make a convincing cat, if you haven't noticed." He shrugged and muttered a painrelieving spell, before glaring at the girl. "If you must know, I came because you invited me. Remember? You told me to come if there were any changes in memory, or something like that. And there have been--I'm still waiting for you to help me fix it, you know."
"Oh, if you want to talk outside, that's fine," he added, beaming at the older girl, despite her attack. Sure, Howl would have liked to make her small enough to fit under his velvet-trimmed boots--sure he would have liked to turn her into something more hideous than a toad. But the fact remained that she was female. And that meant, naturally, that he could not--or perhaps would not cause her any distress.
Unless, of course, it was this kind. "Such a greeting, my love. I was hoping for something more romantic. Didn't you miss me? And here I was, about to confess my undying love for you, and you abuse me."

Darcy's scathing glare never faltered, gaze locked upon the boy. "How I raise my child is none of your concern." she said, a silent threat lacing her words, daring him to continue on the subject. "And I told you to arrange a meeting at the caves, NOT my personal residence." She ignored the memory issue; hells if she knew what to do about that, and there was no way on Gaia she was about to admit that to the older boy.
"I don't want to talk to you right now. Now, get off my property, or so help me..." Okay, so she wasn't entirely sure what she was going to do, but she'd do something! At one time, Howl had amused her. But, at the current time...gah! If it weren't for the fact he was her daughter's friend, she would have called the cops. Wait, no; that'd be more people here. Well, she could always sick one of the animals on him. That'd be amusing, but she doubted her daughter would go for that.
"Call me love one more time and so help me, I'm going to hurt you." Darcy threatened, eyes narrowing to slits. Could she do that? Probably not. But Aaron could, and would. And she knew that. Therefor, her threat was valid.

"I don't believe you ever specified where the meeting be held," Howl said, removing nonexistant dirt from one of his fingernails. He seemed quite focused on that as he spoke. "You see, my memory is still quite poor. So you may have told me to meet you at the caves; but I didn't see that as very important, so I simply forgot."
The wizard yawned, making a show of being bored, or otherwise not feeling at all threatened. "Do you realize how many times you use the same phrase? I wonder what you'd do if I said 'don't say or so help me again, or so help me...'? I told you, I was invited. I was brought here; and that counts as an invitation. She told me I would like it here." The boy shrugged, leaning against the wall and putting his arms behind his head. He made no movement towards the door.
"Love," he drawled. "There are many things you could do that could potentially harm me. I would be quite willing to participate in these things, if you were older." He paused and shrugged again. "Let's have the meeting now, shall we? It'll keep you from having to see my face for another year or two."
