ok I'm trying to catch spiritomb and I was wondering if you need to be in the vicinity of another person playing platinum in order to talk to them underground or not?

that didn't tell me what I wanted to know. I wanted to know if I needed to be in the vicinity of someone whos playing a platinum/diamond/pearl that went underground to talk to them or can I just go underground anywhere and look for other players underground?

You did not click the links under where to get it if you did then you would know you have to meet 30 random people underground and they must be people who live close to you that you can talk to.

Well they don't need to be 30 different people at least, I believe I just went down there with a friend and we spammed each other with chat. Yes you need to be near someone that is also playing to be able to talk with them.
