Oh this was big! This was so so big! Amefungwa was standing in the middle of the Kizingo lands as the sun was rising over the horizon. The crickets had woken her up with their singing, clamoring for her to pay attention, get up, go see the stars! She'd rolled out of the den, taken one look up at the star-specked sky, and known she had to tell someone. Something BIG was gonna happen, something HUGE even! But who should she tell? No one was awake! She'd stood up all night in the middle of the pride, but no one else woke up or seemed to hear the crickets singing at the tops of their lungs for attention.
With no other thoughts for what to do, the lioness sat right down on her rump, listened for a moment to the crickets, and started to sing along. She sang with the insects, and for anyone who might be near to hear. The stars had clearly told her that something big was coming. If it was true or not, that didn't matter. The stars had told her the future, and the crickets told her to sing, and so she sang!
And hopefully someone would hear her.

Asali had been up for several hours, using the darkness to aid her in her ever expanding quest for new remadies. Her new companion, Pahana, was flying somewhere over head, watching over her as usual. Ever since she had found and healed the small white bird, he had adopted her as his charge and she had come to think of him as her Inner-Voice. Very sensible and with a far better sense of direction than the small healer, Pahana had already guided her to safety several times over the past few weeks.
As dawn approched, the pair were just returning from the forest edge where Asali had been struggling to overcome her fear of the thickly overgrown forest to collect the new plants she wanted to test. Padding through the center of the pride she heard the strange song, lion and cricket, and paused, golden eyes looking about her in confusion for the one who was up at this hour, wondering what was going on.

Amefungwa was so engrossed with her song that she barely noticed someone drawing near. Her voice was strong and loud, and it drowned out the sound of pawsteps. Only when her cricket friends became alarmed, chattering and leaping about as they were want to do, did she pause to look around. AHA! There WAS someone around! She got up quickly and ran to the other lioness. "You! You heard my song right? You know what it means? Huh? The stars and the crickets told me, you see, and I knew I had to start singing but no one was around but oh thank GOODNESS now YOU are!"
Asali paused as the other lioness suddenly stopped and turned, amber eyes becoming large and round in alarm as the stranger almost bolted directly over to her. Yet just at that moment she felt the tiny weight of Pahana land on her hip and she let herself relax, her little Voice wouldn't let her be near anything dangerous, not that she thought this lioness was dangerous, but he was a silent reasurance. Surprised by the enthusiasim and well.. urgancy with this the stranger spoke, Asali tilted her head clearly confused. "Yes.. I did.. I was passing through on my way home..." She couldn't have avoided hearing.. not wiht the noise the lioness and the crickets had been making. Realising there was many more questions woven into the other's words, she paused for a moment, feeling worry curdle in the pit of her belly. "Umm.. no.. I don't... know or see... " She confessed softly, voice nervous.
Ame just tilted her head and smiled, and then laughed a little. "Of course you see, you've got eyes don't you? And you heard me, so you MUST know what I meant, but it's okay I'll tell you anyways because the little hoppy muses told me to and when I listen to them good things happen! You see, you see, the hoppy things were watching the stars, and the stars told my muse that there was like this BIG storm coming maybe! And my muse woke me up and told ME to start singing about it too so everyone would know! But I don't know if it's like a RAIN storm or a SEA storm or a storm of things...like lots of lions going together or something."

Asali could only blink rather dumbly at the lioness's rain of words assaulting her ears, mouth a little open in what d to be a rather silly expression. It was only the little p***k of her Voice's feet on her hip that startled her out of he frozen expression.
"A storm of anything doesn't sound very pleasant..." She half murmured, the knot i her belly tightening with anxiety as she grew fearful of upsetting this stranger. The last thing Asali ever wanted was to make another sad and yet she really had no idea what to do with this one. Her healing ability was no good when it came to muses and their portents. Stumbling over her thought she gazed out at the sea. "M-maybe we should warn someone if its a seastorm? Some of the youngsters may e down by the waves..."

Amefungwa was totally unaware of the stunning effect her rambling words had had on the other lioness. Or rather, if she was aware, she wasn't bothered at all. A storm WAS a big deal, you know! Especially, yes, if it was a seastorm. Living on the ocean had great benefits to the pride, but it also made things terribly dangerous. Especially for young lions and cubs.
"That's a good idea! I mean, I've been trying to warn people but I think just about everyone's asleep. I guess if I sit here by the dens and sing until they wake up, they'll turn around and stay in the dens! Then no cubs will go down by the shore! It's brilliant! Thank you so much for suggesting it! We'll be heroes!" She crowed delightedly, and grinned at her new friend. "I'm Amefungwa, by the way! Who're you, other hero?"

Asali rather felt like her eyes had to be swirling from the sheer confusion she felt. The other female spoke so rapidly and threw so many words at her that she simply didn't know how to cope with them all. Briefly the calm, stoic image of Ozark filled her mind and she longed to have him here to hide behind. But he was not, too busy working in the Twilight Caves to spend his time out on the beach at night.
Swallowing she struggled to filter the lioness's latest wave of vocals through her mind, finally coming out with te suggestion of more singing and a request for her name. "Ahh.. that is a good idea.. and I can go down to the breakers and make sure no one is already down there... " Flustered and more than a little lost a this sudden change of direction in her evenings activities, she did manage a soft, shy smile. "Its nice to meet you Amefungwa.. I am Asali, a healer.."

The red lioness nodded at the suggestion. "Oh yes yes! With you down there and me up here, no one will get by! Then when the sea storms come," For she had indeed decided it MUST be a warning about a sea storm, "Everyone will be safe! What's that? A healer? Great! Even better! Then if anyone IS hurt you can help them! I'm a fortune teller. The stars talk to me! Haha, but I guess I told you that already. They actually just talk to my muse, and it tells me, but eh! Same thing, right Asali? Anyways...you go ahead on down to the beach! I'll keep singing here. If you find anyone needing help and can't do it alone, come get me, okay? Thanks for listening...and helping too! Good luck Asali!" Even in the dark, her beaming smile was radiant.

This time she felt like she managed to follow the very rapid thread of the lioness's conversation, nodding her head rapidly in time with Ame's words. "Yes.. I'l go, and will call if I need to..." That had been right, right? After a moment she returned the female' vibrant smile with her own small shy one before dipping her head. "Good luck here, Ame."
Blushing she turned and headed down to the ocean's shore, wondering what had just happened and if she had done the right thing.. well, at least she could look for some more razor shells, even if the storm didn't end up coming, and the dawn was always a beautiful sight to watch. Humming softly she settled at the water's edge and waited.
