Rina had been preforming the seathi version of a pace for an hour. Which consisted of frantically swimming back and fourth in the small confines of the families underwater cave. "What do you think Sine? Is the Pod really a good idea? And where would I put it? There's no room here. Hell there almost isn't enough room for the three of us. Me, you and your mate." She flicked her tail in an irritated fashion against the wall. "But we're so scarce and so god damn crunchy. There's protection in numbers. I know that. And much more opportunity for all for better everything. I want more children and there's your future broods to worry about. I want family, I want safety, I want a damn friend I don't have to swim 10 miles upstream to find. Damn." She swore some more under her breath and continued to "pace". "Mom, you're going to give yourself a panic attack if you keep that up, or one of your scales are going to pop off or something. Relax." Sine yawned and continued to watch her frantic mother. Far more steady and patient than the woman who had produced her, she was prepared to wait this out. "And yes. The Pod is a good idea. Jem thinks so and you know there will be others if we just go to find them. Maybe you should talk to that friend of yours, Amitola. Maybe she would come and maybe she'd know more who would." She played idly with one of her pink locks. "And you know all those things are good reasons to do this. You've been thinking about this for ages. Let's go through with it."

Amitola was bored. She was lonely. Illy had visited a month ago, and she was heartsick for her daughter. There was only so much she could do to ease the isolation - Sunila was around, and he was Illy's only father figure... But Amitola wanted to know what had happened to her other shell. Bonaventure had made off with it in the middle of the night, leaving behind a forlorn only child that had never met her brother and a disgusted, horrified mother who had never met her other baby. All she had to do these days was kick around her cave, talk philosophy with Sunila (who was currently at the lakeweed stand), and wonder what had gone wrong. Her friends had become scarce, and she'd heard rumor that Rina had even had children.
Annoyed with herself for being so depressing, Ami swam to the front entrance of her cave, looking down on her view of the lake bed. She could see Sunila, who waved at her from his lunch 'table' - a flat rock that he cracked shellfish on by the lakeweed stand. The mers that sometimes visited brought shellfish with them, and Sunila almost literally drooled over it when he saw it. Amitola couldn't help but indulge his craving, and had sent him down with a shiny or two to trade for some shellfish.Ilyrana was making her way up the river for a surprise visit to her mother, Orlando in tow. The silly dolphin had yet to see the lake or meet her mother, and she was excited to introduce them (and kind of expecting something hilarious to happen). Sunila would most likely disapprove, but that was okay - the sea otter would get over it eventually. Illy fancied that he'd always had a small soft spot for her... And her treasure-obsessed dolphin friend shouldn't be an exception. In any case, she was hoping that her mother might introduce her to some of her friends - Illy had never had the chance to meet any of them, and she would love to.
"Come on, Orlando," she called behind her. The dolphin was busy examining rocks. "I don't think you'll find any treasure here. The current would carry it down to the sea, if there was any."
Orlando procrastinated, asking her to wait, but eventually was forced to agree with her. Following Illy upstream, he said, "And I was so hoping that this would yield treasure for my pearl strands..." With a melodramatic sigh, Orlando shook his head, which shook his whole body.
Laughing at his irregular way of talking, Ilyrana elbowed her friend as they reached the source of the river - a lake; the lake where her mother lived. "Oh, shush, 'Lando. I'm sure my mum will have something to share with you."

After watching her mother swear and pace for a few more minuets, Since gave up and swam forward to bump her. "Come on mom. We're going to go see Amitola. I hear she's just across the lake. Not that you'd know that. Stuck in your head half the time." She shook her head and then reached to get her mother's tail in her mouth and forcibly pull her from the cave.
Rina wriggled a few times and protested but otherwise let her daughter remover her from their dwelling. When they were outside she yanked her tail free with a huff. "I know where she is! I just haven't needed her so there!" She snorted at her daughter and then headed cross lake to her friends dwelling.
Sine laughed and followed at a more leisurely pace. She didn't really know Ami and was more wondering where her mate was. He was off for a swim she supposed. Or spending time with his father. It was Sine who noticed the Blue Seathi female and the dolphin swimming from the river into the lake. She tilted her head with interest and began to swim over.

Ami, hovering by the entrance to her cave as she was, saw the sudden convergence of seathi in the lake, all making for her cave. Rina she recognized, and she saw Ilyrana by the lake's entrance. Barely suppressing a squeal of happiness, Ami made to meet Rina as she swam toward her. Another seathi, a small female, was swimming toward Illy, and there was a large blue... thing... that seemed to be Illy's companion. When she reached Rina, she asked, "Is that your daughter, going to meet my daughter?"
Ilyrana, startled by the pink female making its way toward her, looked at Orlando, puzzled. Her mother had at least left her cave - she could see her with a seathi that she recognized as Nerina from her mother's descriptions. "Hello," Ilyrana said to the newcomer, "Who are you? I don't think I've met you." She gave the pink mare a smile, hoping for a positive response. She hated it when people found her offensive - it made her depressed. But if she was Nerina's daughter, she was bound to be at least agreeable.

Rina greeted Ami with a smile and a happy friendly nuzzle. She was about to ask how her friend had been but was interrupted as her friend addressed the girls behind. She turned her head to see and nodded. "Aye. That would be my daughter. Melusine. Ain't she pretty!? Why?" She turned to Ami with raised eyebrow. "Afraid Sine'll do something stupid? She's got a good head on her shoulders. Certainly different from me she is."
"HI!" Sine bubbled at the other female. "Name's Melusine. I've never actually seen a dolphin before. He's so pretty!" And then Sine suddenly realized she was being rather forward and shut her mouth. "Umm...sorry. I get excited sometimes...and should probably let you do what you were doing."

Ami nuzzled Rina back, excited. The friendship that might pop up between Melusine and Ilyrana would be adorable. "She's very pretty, Rina," Ami replied, raising her eyebrows back. "I think it'd be good if Illy made friends. I certainly haven't met any of them." Then, after a second of thinking, she added, "I'd heard you'd had children, but I wasn't sure. How're they?"
Bewildered by Melusine's ebullience, Ilyrana gave Orlando a look. He swam forward, introducing himself with a rather clicky voice and grinning a strange dolphin-grin. "Thank you for the compliment," he said. "My name is Orlando." Illy came forward. "And I'm Ilyrana... Don't apologize!" She smiled and swam toward Sine with Orlando in tow. "I was just going to see my mother, Amitola. Is that your mom with her...?" Illy asked, seeing that her mother was talking animatedly with Nerina.

Rina smiled. She liked talking about her children. "Great. I had two girls with a wandering Seathi male named Miyu. He stayed till the girls hatched and then headed off. Haven't seen him since. Not that is matters. Anyway...the girls are great. My other is named Phycohyta. When she was old enough she decided she wanted to live elsewhere. But Sine lives with me. Her and her lifemate. He's gorgeous. And they're cute together. I'm glad she's happy. You dear?" She turned to her friend after her bubbly outburst with and expectant smile.
Sine nodded at Orlando. "But I should apologize. Who knew if you and Orlando would have been nice to me." And then she turned her head to watch Ami and her mother talking. "Yes. That's mom. And you're Ami's daughter? How interesting! Where do you live and how to bare to live away from her? Come. I'm keeping you from her. I'm sure she misses you." She tuned to Illy with a smile and a nod and then swished he tail off in the direction of the two older Seathi.

Ami 'hmmed' as Rina talked about Miyu. At least it seemed like there weren't any hard feelings between he and Rina - she'd hate it if her friend was heartbroken. "Who's Sine's lifemate?" she asked, curious. Then, answering Rina's question, she said, "Well, I have Ilyrana, who travels a lot, singing and performing. And somewhere out there, I have another child. The fling I had - Bonaventure - made off with it while I wasn't watching. I've still never met the child. I don't even know if it was a boy or a girl." Saddened, she turned her eyes back to Illy, who always brightened her day.
Illy tilted her head. "Who be not be nice to you?" she asked, puzzled. She hadn't ever met anyone who hadn't liked her once they'd gotten to know her. Sometimes it might take a little while, but everything usually worked out. She nodded, glad she had been right in her assumption. Following Sine with Orlando close behind, she continued the conversation. "I just wander around... I'm what the call a bard. Wanderlust and inspiration plague me," she said, giggling a little. "I miss Mom a lot, but I visit every few weeks. It only takes a few hours to get here from anywhere."

Rina's eyes narrowed and she frowned. "Bonaventure you say? Why that rogue! I think I know precisely where your son is. And you would have a son. By the name of Pushmataha. But we call him Push. Nice young male. Nervous sometimes. But wonderful with Sine. Venture swishes though every now and again. He was by this morning and I think that's where Push is. With his father. Usually he stays close. I'm not sure Push really knows who his mother is. Might be fun to watch the meeting." She giggled. "Surprises, surprises."
Sine raised a curious brow? "A bard? What's a bard do? Forgive me, but I don't know. Wanderlust I understand but not...well the other part." She nodded at the comment about Ami. "I'd miss my mother too terribly, she's nuts but I love her. My sister is gone though. I think perhaps she has some of the same wanderlust you do."

Ami's jaw dropped. She was baffled, ecstatic - "He's here?" she asked, nearly squealing. "His name is Pushmataha? And he's Melusine's lifemate?" She was too excited to remember Rina's comment about Bonaventure. "What does he look like?" she asked, vaguely remembering his shell. She'd never dreamed they might be this close - she doubted if she might have even recognized him.
Illy smiled. "It's no problem. A bard is a singer that tells stories and dances and such - that's what I do. Orlando and I travel around looking for treasure and putting on performances just for fun. Songs just form in my head." Something in Sine's tone caught her interest. "Your sister?" They were rapidly approaching Ami and Rina now, and Rina looked like she'd just said something that had caused Ami's complete elation. "Do you know what's going on with them?" Illy asked, giving their mothers a strange look.

Rina's head tilted. "Well not here exactly. He went off for a swim this morning. He'll be back later. Him and Sine are usually latched at the hip." And then she closed her eyes at Ami's comment about Push's looks. "He's black mostly and his belly scales are light blue and he has rainbow fins all over. Still not really used to seathi without hair but you and Push are helping with that." She turned to her daughter as they approached. "Hi dear! You're going to think this is funny." She chucked.
"A singer. Oh! That sounds fun. Wish I could sing. And it sounds so thrilling to meet new people and do fun things." She tilted he head at the comment about Phy. "Yes my sis. We're not close She's nice and everything but we wanted different things. And no I don't know what's going on." And and her mother's comment she began to turn her head to and from Ami and Rina. "What am I going to find funny mom? You two are really acting weird." Her face was really concerned as she waited for an answer.

"Well, yes, I heard that, but at least he's in the general vicinity," Ami said, and would have been jumping up and down had she been on land and equipped with four hooves. "He sounds like he has my looks," she said, and then noticing her daughter approaching, she raced forward to embrace Illy by resting her neck on her daughter's. Then, seeing the hulking figure behind Illy, she asked, "Who's this?"
"This is Orlando, Mom," Illy said, returning her mother's hug briefly. "What's going on?" she asked, glancing between Rina and Amitola. Meanwhile, Orlando waved shyly to Ami with a fin, and Ami smiled back at him. They'd get to know each other later, and Sunila would help her scrutinize him.

Sine frowned at her mother. "You know I don't like being out of the loop. I don't find it funny at all." She swished her tail in irritation even as she watched mother and daughter embrace after a long absence. She had to say her heart warmed but she was still upset.
"Oh it's nothing too serious dear. Don't get your tail in a knot." She nudged her daughter lovingly. "Your lifemate is Ami's son and would be Illyrana's brother. You knew he'd never met his mother. Well there she is. We should introduce them all one of these days." She grinned at the silly coincidence. And then Rina remember why they'd come to see the her seathi mare friend in the first place. "Oh! Oh Sine! I've lost track of why we'd come. But perhaps it's okay. We have more of everyone to talk to. They can help me decide!" She called to the seathi mare and her daughter. "Ami! I have something I want to talk about wit everyone. It's why I came to see you. Is there anywhere we could all go and feel comfortable?"

Illy's eyes widened. "My brother?" she said incredulously, between happiness and confusion. Turning to her mother, she asked, "I have a brother?" and then to Melusine, "We're sisters-in-law?" Finally just speechless and astonished, she shut herself up, remembering the tales her mother had told her about her thief of a father. And here she might get to meet her brother~!
Laughing a bit at Illy's excitement, Ami just nodded; her daughter was talking to fast for her to give an actual response. Addressing Rina, she said, "Yes, you should introduce us one of these days." Grinning with all of this good news, Ami let out a low whistle for Sunila to come up from his rock (which actually had his name on it; a gift from Ami, she'd carved his name into it with rocks so he could use it for cracking his shellfish). "Hm... We could all fit in the first room of my cave, or we could go have lunch at the lakeweed stand. What do you think?" she asked, not sure what Rina wanted to talk about. If it was too serious, having lunch with the socialites that hung out at the stand all day probably wasn't the best idea.
