Well, they were at it again. And he was left behind once more. Of all the nerve. His father had gone back to the depths again for a bit, while his mother was out somewhere. His sister had followed after their father, giggling and wiggling her tail at him in a manner that was all to clearly a taunt before following. So what if he took after his mothers side. One day, he was going to gore that quirky smile off of her face, and then see who would be smiling after that. Visuelle turned to look at his little furry stub tail, and growled at it. Why couldn't he have taken after his sister and father.

With an irritated huff, he left the pace where his family usually gathered, and headed into the forest, onto ground he was more comfortable with. Let them swim circles around themselves. He smirked. He could still outrun them. Tails were heavy and cumbersome when you wanted to haul butt over the land. He had one advantage at least. But that still left him behind when his father returned to the depths. He snarled at the thought of the smug looks she would come out with when his sister emerged from the water, and threw up his head, imaging that maybe he had actually caught her on the tips of his antlers this time and was throwing her into the air, and not tripping on something. Throwing his head back through, caught his antlers in a lower limb of a tree. The leaf litter covering the ground crunched noisily under his hooves as he tried all different sorts of techniques to free himself from the limb, stripping leaves and small branches off, and leaving him as stuck as ever.

Kalypso had, once again, managed to let her feet carry her toward the beach. But she was careful - she kept the sand and a belt of trees between herself and the water, and it was daytime. Making her way down the length of the coast, she watched the water with a quiet longing and a quiet fear... She'd lost so much to those waves, and she wanted to bring them back, but she was afraid to even approach them. With a sigh, she looked down at her pearl anklet. Continuing on, she broke into a run, in sudden need of a thrill and an adrenaline rush.

And then she heard a snarl and the cacophony of rustling underbrush, and the real adrenaline kicked in when she saw fins out of her peripheral vision. Catching her breath, she dove into a thicket of holly, ignoring the prickling that irritated her sensitive skin and pulled at her mane. Turning around, she watched the stallion from her hiding place. Gasping for air as quietly as she could, Kalypso studied him - he wasn't all Kelpi, but that didn't make her any less suspicious... But he wasn't in the water.

Struggling with her conflicting feelings about this stallion, she failed to notice his predicament, and watched him warily, trying to think of a way out. They had always been faster than she was, the finned ones...

Visuelle finally managed to get his hooves settled against the trunk of the tree, and took a moment to take a breath. Of all of the luck! As long as his sister never found him like this, he should be okay. Now he just had to pray she was too busy elsewhere. Canting his head sideways, he tried to get a look at the way his antlers were stuck, and he couldn't help but growl, and he kicked at the tree to vent some of his frustration as he found that he could not free himself easily.

It was in the middle of this, he caught a flash of brown, and turned his head sideways a bit to see in the same direction. Brown meant it wasn't his sister, which was very good for him. But not many dared venture into the lands his father held. He had too much of a reputation. So, finding something there was new. And it was too dark brown to be his mother, though, why would she be hiding? So, it wasn't anyone he knew. Which could be a good and a bad thing. Hey, in the bush! Can you help me?

Kalypso watched him some more, wondering what he was doing with the tree - and then she looked at the top of his head. Antlers were certainly new on the finned kind... But he also had a short, deer-like tail and fuzzy ears. What on Earth...? she thought to herself. This was no normal finned creature - he was different. A cross, of some kind... But there was no way that he could be as cruel as some of them. She was sure that, whatever his lineage was, there was no way he could be bad enough to hide from.

As she looked at his antlers, she realized that they were stuck in the tree that he was beating up. When he called out to her, she jumped a little, bringing a fresh round of the prickling sensation caused by the holly leaves scraping against her skin. Seeing that he probably did need her help, she made her way carefully and warily out of the bush, trying not to get too close to him. Even if he didn't have all of the fins, he might still have a little of the attitude... Walking slowly out to stand a little way away from him, she asked, "What can I do to help you? You're a little stuck..."

He blinked at her as she emerged from the bushes, light spots rippling under her coat. It was a mare. There had been a mare hiding from him. Well, he was just so great, She was probably intimidated. He couldn't help but straighten up a bit, a lopsided grin on his face. Why, Hello there. As he straightened up, his antlers finally loosened from the tree, and he toppled backward, squealing in surprise as his feet beat a pattern in the air as he tried to right himself.

It took him a moment to find his way back to his feet, staggering back onto them, his back to her for a moment, and he looked around, finally deciding he was the wrong direction. He turned back to her, small branches hanging from his antlers, with the leaves occasionally falling over his eyes. he tried to shake them out of his eyes, with little success. I would say you have just helped. me.

Kalypso rolled her eyes, beginning to walk away when he pulled out the 'hello there' line. Yep, this guy was definitely harmless. And then she heard a loud thud and a squeal - half a second later, she'd whirled in a circle and was ready to put up a fight, heart beating fast and breathing shallow. Noticing that the stallion was, instead of coming after her, lying on the ground and struggling to get up, she eyed him as he got up. Branches were stuck in his antlers, blocking his eyes from her view, but instinctively, she knew what color they were - green. She couldn't help but not take him seriously - though the guy seemed to be a genuine klutz, he was a bit too... much... for her taste. Suppressing the urge to scoff at him, she said, "Uh-huh... I've helped you by doing nothing?" She tilted her head to the side, not understanding him. He was almost nice, even though he was certainly part finned-creature. Suddenly annoyed, she got in his face a little, asking him, "Who are you? You frightened me terribly."

Vis grinned at her. By being here, and inspiring me with your very presence, I was able to get my antlers free. Though he shook himself rather vigorously to try and rid himself of the branches, and only managed to stagger, bringing himself to a splayed-leg stance. Did I not introduce myself yet? That was rather rude, wasn't it? I am Visuelle. Though most call me Vis. And I would say, you are right to be scared. Especially around here. He stood up, huffing at the fact he couldn't get the branches off. What are you doing here anyway? Don't you know any better?

Affronted by Visuelle's seemingly talkative, flirtatious nature, Kalypso surprised herself by deigning to give him a response. "Vis, huh? My name is Kalypso." Reaching out without knowing what she was doing, she said, "Hold still." Gripping the branches in her teeth, she attempted to pull them off. She'd ask him what he meant about 'knowing any better' when she'd helped him out, since he'd pretty much apologized for scaring her... Kind of... His incredulity made her wary, though, especially since her past with beaches and water in the first place weren't that great. What if there were finned creatures that actually did pose a threat around here?

Kalypso, eh? Beautiful name. As she reached forward, he tensed a bit as she drew close. He hadn't had had any interaction save for his family, and mainly his sister, and that was not anything great. So he wasn't sure what to do with her reaching close. However, as he heard the branches start to wiggle in his antlers, he could figure that she was trying to help him with his branches, which would have taken him a while on his own, so he lowered his head to give her a better chance to get them. It would have taken me forever to get those things out, as you can imagine. I can't reach up there nearly as easily as you can to get them. And there is no way I would have asked my sister to help. I might have lost an ear just because she would have thought it was funny.

Kalypso gripped the main stem of the branch with her teeth, pulling firmly and slowly - gradually, it came loose. Spitting it out and trying to clean her teeth of the bark, she ignored his comment about her name. "A sister, hm?" It was intended as a rhetorical question. Whatever their relationship, she sounded a little bit... frightening.

Coughing a little, she said, "Now, what were you saying earlier? Why should I be scared to be here? Should I know better?" She wanted to know if there was any reason for her to fear the area, and if it had anything to do with the water or finned creatures, she'd be out of there as soon as possible. "Is there something I should know?"

Yeah, a sister. Thankfully, I only have one, he mumbled, with a bit of a growl to his tone. It felt so nice to not have the extra pressure on his antlers. They were actually a bit sensitive. But they were always like that. He could certainly feel pressure from them. And it really would have taken him forever to get the branches out. He shook his head again, happy that he didn't have leaves brushing against his ears or over his eyes. However, now he had to figure out why she was here. Of course, it sounded like she didn't know of his father. That was probably the only reason she hadn't run screaming. She was certainly not from around here.

Something you should know? Well, that certainly says you're not from around here. He gave her a once-over, assessing her. It would be better to walk carefully. You're in my father's territory. he's not one to share. There used to be a herd of Cerynei around here. Not anymore. It only belongs to him now. And his family of course. But he doesn't have much love for land-walkers, save for my mother. He gave a bitter smirk. Most know better then to come around here.

Kalypso listened patiently to Vis, adding an "mm-hm" every now and then. But when she heard 'land-walkers', she put her guard up. She was suddenly apprehensive as to what Visuelle's father might be, and cast another look at his fins. "I'm not from around here," Kalypso said. "Your father... What is he, exactly?" Because if he was what she thought he was, Kalypso was out of there. She would head for the hills. Looking down at her anklet, she sent a silent prayer to her family in the stars. The anklet, made of pearls, was both an abhorred reminder of the night she'd lost her family and an anchor to the place where they'd died. And try as she might, she couldn't bring herself to get rid of the thing, or her necklace, for that matter.

Vis turned to look around, and then scratched at his muzzle with a hind hoof before looking back up at her. Why, he's the monster of the pond, Ruehil. Mean jerk if you ask me. He stomped a hoof in irritation. I'm surprised that you haven't heard of him. And as to what he is.... Vis wiggled the fins on his head a bit, and scrapped a his left hoof on the ground, to show off the short useless fin on the back of his leg. He is a Kelpie. One of the few around her, but then again, my father is not fond of competition.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 08, 2011 12:53 am

Kalypso gasped, and looked around. Others might have said she was being dramatic, but she literally feared for life. "Um... Please... Forgive me, but I think I have to go..." She looked around some more, hoping fervently that the kelpi was no where nearby. She backed away from Vis slowly, breathing quickly. She wanted to get out of here without being seen... But a sudden question pinged! in her mind. It was one that had to be asked - if not, she might be running away from this nice guy because of his 'scary' father, who might actually not be that scary. "Your father... He's... he's never actually... killed, has he?" she asked, trembling, her back against a tree.

He tilted his head sideways a bit, watching her back up. Jumpy little thing she was now that he had mentioned his father. Apparently, like most Soquili, this one had a fear of Kelpie. It's not like he didn't understand. He had to deal with his father after all. And that was no picnic. Though she had to fear them more then most, with that panic attack she looked like she was suffering form. Who knew.

As for my father? I wouldn't doubt if he has. I know he's vindictive. If anything is stolen from him, the one who stole it, when he catches them, would wish he either killed them to end their torment at his hooves, or wish they had never even heard of him and crossed his path. Mainly he eats fish I think. I have never wanted to ask him about what he has done over the years, and I don't want to ask.
