Name: Tanasha 'Ash'
Age: 35
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Rank: Jr. Weyrwoman
Former Craft: Woodcraft
Physical description: Aptly named Ash has been as grey as a mule since she was seventeen. Her hair is short, straight, and tends to stick up in a shock of silver as she's forever pushing her fingers through it. At 5'3" she's a fairly short woman, although not the shortest, and her presence makes up for that; she wears confidence and practicality like a comfortable cloak, and has a kind of stillness about her that gives the impression of a great placid body of water. She's toughly built, all wiry muscle, and has very little in the way of hips or breasts. Mid brown eyes, tanned skin, and practical clothes finish the woman off; she'd never wear a dress of her own volition, but assents to fine gowns for official occasions.
Personality: Ash is a steady, practical sort of a woman, the kind who could be relied on to change a broken cart wheel in the middle of a storm or to organize a bucket chain to put out a fire. She tends to assume command of a situation by virtue of speaking good sense, and not taking no for an answer. She won't be loud, volatile, or vicious in any way, she'll just keep on calmly disagreeing with whoever is arguing with her (whilst giving calm instructions to everyone else) until they either give up or explode from frustration. In short, while she never loses her temper, 'no' just isn't a word that features in her vocabulary when applied to herself, and everyone around her had better get used to that.
She's not given to high-flown arguments any more than she is to anger: her words are as practical and down to earth as she is, and while she can be diplomatic she's one to call a spade a spade in the end and can't be bothered with hours and hours of talking delicately around the same point. For all her calm way of going about it, however, Ash's stubbornness can be grating, as can her assumption that she knows what's best just about all the time.
When she's not busy calmly making sure she gets her way, Ash is a caring and gentle sort. She seldom has a bad word for anyone, no matter how big a mistake they've just made (so long as it was a genuine mistake), and is quite happy to provide a shoulder to cry on along with a healthy dose of practical advice on how to progress. In a slightly socially awkward position as she is by virtue of being a goldrider she doesn't get to socialize as much as she would like to, though, and is only too pleased to set formality aside when off duty.
History: Ash's mother died when she was very young, but she was so close to her father that the loss didn't sting too badly. He was a woodcrafter, and so she wanted to be one too and became on in her time. When she was approached by a search rider aged nineteen, the newly minted journeywoman would have turned the offer down but for her father's intervention. While he was a woodcrafter he had once been a candidate, and though his dream had not come to pass he wanted the chance of perfect companionship for his little girl. Ash made no further argument, and arrived at Ista Weyr before the sun set on that same day. When the day of the hatching came around the queen egg hatched quite early during proceedings and, after taking a careful look around, the gold made her way over to Ash:
"Hello Mine, I am your Amarath, I was waiting for you. Shall we go now, together? There are so many things I want to see."
Well, that settled that then. Ash left her crafting behind more or less and set about leaning the duties of a Jr. Weyrwoman as diligently as she had studied the techniques of carving and joining wood. For the next several turns Ash worked along in the placid assumption that she would one day be Senior Weyrwoman, but as it turned out that was not to be; the previous Sr. goldrider died unexpectedly of firehead, and the next gold to rise after her death was Rath of Ky't. Ash was unimpressed by this turn of events - having so young and inexperienced a woman leading the Weyr sounded Not Good to her - but she bowed to tradition and continued with the duties of a Jr. queenrider. Ash being Ash, however, she has never stopped letting Ky't know precisely what she thinks ought to be happening if it isn't, and make sure that there's a darn good reason that this is the case.
Talents: Wood-carving; although she has little time for her craft these days Ash likes to whittle in her spare time. She tends to make either decorative but functional items such as carved wooden mugs and bowls, or toys which then end up in the Weyr's creche.
Notes:
Dragon
Name: Amarath
Age: 16
Color: Gold
Physical Description: A queen of average size and build, her hide is primarily a very pale gold but she possesses a dark gold muzzle, dorsal stripe, and legs: the markings are somewhat reminiscent of a dun-coated runner.
Personality: Amarath is just as calm as her rider, but where Ash is solid and sturdy, Amarath is serene. She has an almost tangible aura of tender tranquility about her, but any dragon who's spoken to her could tell you that this gentleness is coupled with just as much determination as her rider possesses. Where Ash will push stubbornly on through until she gets her way, however, Amarath will turn the problem over quietly in her mind and approach it again from a different angle. She will patiently do this again and again as many times as it takes to make her point understood in the discussion (Amarath never argues), or until Ash's rather more blunt approach has achieved the same results.
Another trait Amarath shares with her rider is gentleness, but unlike her rider she tends to remain rather aloof from others. This is not out of a belief that she's better than anyone else, it's just in her nature to remain very slightly detached from any given situation so that she can analyse it better. Yes, Amarath likes to analyse, and to think in general. Sometimes she thinks about complex matters such as politics or why it might be that things fall down and not up, and at other times she thinks about simple things like the sound of a lullaby or the taste of her food. Whatever it is she's thinking about it can be rather difficult to get her attention when she loses herself in pondering: a very firm poke, mental or physical, is generally in order.
