Name: Zena
Age: Recently turned 14
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Boys are cute!
Craft/Hall/Rank: Trader
Physical description: Pretty-faced and starting to develop a woman’s figure, Zena tends to get a fair bit of attention from boys around her age. Her skin is quite heavily tanned, her long straight hair is a very dark rich shade of brown and her eyes are a warm honey/amber colour. When it comes to clothes she likes bright colours that bring out her own strong colouring, and in terms of style she prefers tunics cut to just around the knee with short sleeves. If she’s going to be walking any great distance she’ll be wearing a sensible pair of calf boots, but for casually running around the place she’ll be in light sandals or even barefoot. Very fond of jewellery, Zena will usually be wearing at least a necklace, a few bangles, and maybe an anklet.
Personality: Despite the recent devastation of her life, Zena’s bold spirit continues to shine through. She’s adventurous, sometimes reckless, and outspoken no matter what company she’s in but tends towards sly jabs rather than outright shouting when she gets into a disagreement. By and large she has a self-centred view of the world and always looks out for number one, but in her case ‘number one’ equals herself, her family, and anyone she comes to class as honoury family.
This isn’t to say she’s unkind or utterly selfish - she’ll share a bag of sweets with her casual friends – but if you want her to risk her pretty neck for you or to get up at dawn to help you fix some dumb mistake you made you can whistle for it. Equally, however, she doesn’t expect you to do anything of the sort for her, and if a huge gesture is made by somebody she doesn’t count as one of ‘hers’, she’ll be perplexed and probably rather suspicious. Those who she does count as family on the other hand can count on her to have their back and she feels safe in the knowledge that they have hers too.
Now, boys. Zena likes boys a lot; flirting, teasing, and stealing the odd kiss are extremely good fun. She’s not looking for a boyfriend as such, she finds the idea rather limiting at this point in time, but equally she’s not interested in anything too physical; the main point of the whole affair is to chase the cute ones and gossip about them. Ah yes, gossip. Is there anything better in the world? Well, jewellery dragons and runners maybe, but still. Zena loves to talk about and hear about what he said to her after she found him kissing her best friend. She doesn’t have to believe a rumour is true to pass it along, half the point is that it’s fun to speculate. By and large she’s not malicious in her gossiping (although this doesn’t mean people don’t get hurt by it), but if you get on the wrong side of her prepare for half the world to hear that you were once caught doing something unsavoury to a goat.
History: Zena was born into an extended family of Traders on the same day as her cousin Lora; she came somewhat later than expected, and her cousin earlier. It was joked about at the time that the pair had planned it out simply so as not to be apart from one another, and this joke has become something of a reality: they are inseparable. They spent their childhood playing together on the beaches, running around the streets of Holds, and gossiping about life the universe and everything and continue to do so to this day. If anything they have recently become closer than ever: they don’t have a lot left in the world save for one another and they’re damned if they’re going to let anything pull them apart.
Zena grew up with a lot of dreams for her life: world’s most successful trader, runner racing champion, dragonrider, and when she acquired a flit around a turn ago she added firelizard breeder to the list as well... Currently she is still at the stage in here life where she thinks ‘all of the above’ is a realistic option, but if she can only be one she’d like to be a rider; having known her uncle’s brown pretty well all her life she is of the opinion that dragons are awesome, and that it would be the best thing very to have one of her very own.
Recent events, however, have given her a more serious reason than childhood dreaming to want to be a rider: she wants to fight the Thread that decimated her family. She doesn’t think so much of saving other people’s lives, they can look to themselves, what she wants is revenge. It might not make sense to take revenge on something that isn’t even sentient, but sense doesn’t come into the matter in her eyes. Until she finds her lifemate she’ll be volunteering for ground crew duty whenever the need arises; it might not be what she really wants, but it’ll do for the time being.
Talents: Riding and handling runners, fast talking, picking pockets, spotting jewellery she wants.
Notes: Dragon preference is green, but any hatchling that fits her is fine. As for names, Zena is Zena and always shall be! Owns a green firelizard named Emerald.

Name: Lora
Age: Recently turned 14
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Hasn’t quite worked that out yet; quite possibly at least bisexual, possibly completely homosexual
Craft/Hall/Rank: Trader
Physical description: Lora is a skinny little thing with a sharp face, hazel-green eyes and sleek black hair cut off at the jaw. Her face and arms are heavily tanned, but her legs are less so as she prefers to wear trousers rather than tunics or skirts, so they’re only exposed to the sun when she goes swimming. Even at her young age Lora has mastered the art of the sceptical eyebrow raise and employs it frequently.
Personality: Lora is not impressed by you or your bullshit, she doesn’t like the cut of your fancy new vest, and your haircut is ridiculous. Yes, Lora is rather snarky and catty with strangers; she tends to presume that they’re the enemy, or at the very least that they’d happily do down her or hers to turn a profit. Her style of argument tends towards terse, nasty, but often rather astute observations. Recent events have made her more defensive than ever so getting under her spikes will take quite a while, although it isn’t actually difficult per se – you just have to be persistent. Once you do get under her spikes you’ll have a friend for life so long as you stay as loyal to her as she is to you.
Quite astute and a fairly good judge of character as she is she can generally tell when people are being genuine with her and when they’re saying things they don’t mean. She doesn’t dislike fast-talk and of itself (she’d have gone mad around Traders if she did), but she does believe that when people are trying to form the beginnings of a relationship they should just be honest with one another. Once you do get to know her and earn her trust feel free to talk in all the circles you like, just so long as you're not trying to take advantage of her (and if you are, consider the friendship over.)
She’s a hard working sort of a girl and doesn’t complain if she seems to have more chores than somebody else; so far as she sees it her work will pay off in the end either in the recognition of her superiors, or simply by toughening her up. Lora does like to be tough (perhaps it’s a bit of a short man complex), and more than that she likes to prove she’s tough by working harder than others, or trying something more daring. She doesn’t feel the need to do this so much around good friends, but even around them she’s tempted to say ‘watch this!’ even when her good sense is telling her not to do whatever is.
When it comes to socialising Lora tends to sit back and listen to idle chatter and gossip, throwing in an occasional witty comment and enjoying the shrieks of merriment she causes. She’s happy to listen to and join in with pretty much any kind of talk whilst amongst friends, but she never feels she has much to add on the topic of boys; she hasn’t quite worked out yet whether she likes them or not and as such always deflects questions about any boys she likes back onto whoever asks her. If pressed on the matter, however, she’ll probably come out with a comment such as ‘show me one that isn’t an idiot and I’ll take an interest’. Having arrived at the Weyr where homosexuality is accepted as a fact of life rather than being something nobody likes to talk about she has begun to wonder if she might like girls rather than boys, but has yet to say anything about it.

If anything they have recently become closer than ever: they don’t have a lot left in the world save for one another and they’re damned if they’re going to let anything pull them apart.
Always quite a grounded girl Lora started learning how to value items that came into the caravan’s possession from an early age rather than going into negotiation. She got pretty good at it, and also got rather good at hearing straight through the pretty words that her fellows tended to spout to the actual truth of the matter. As she grew older she started to take an interest in the performances some members of the group put on and eventually got into knife throwing; she's good enough now to throw at (and carefully outline in knives) somebody tied to a target, but she has yet to progress to throwing blindfolded.
Lora always presumed that she would life out her life as a Trader and was happy enough with this idea, although she did entertain faint dreams of Impressing a dragon and Trading around Pern with her dear cousin instead. The recent loss of her family to the Thread, however, has set her dream of Impressing in stone; she’ll sear that menace from the sky one day, and anyone who thinks they can get in her way had better watch out.
Talents: Lora has a good eye for the value of an item, knife throwing (for performances), and a good ear for complete bullshit.
Notes: Male dragon (of any colour) for preference, but if a green fits her that's fine too. She will not be totally straight in the end, so definitely no gold. <3 Lora is sticking with Lora thanks. Owns a green firelizard named Jade.
