Basic Information

The weapon is essentially the M249, with some "cosmetic" changes. The weapon sports a cobalt-steel alloy flow formed polygonal barrel designed to use 6.8mm remington rounds. The barrel length can range from 13-21 inches, although 16 and 21 inches are the most common barrel lengths.

The weapon uses picanty rails and does not possess an integrated bi-pod, although one is generally used. In addition, the magazine port normally used to allow STANAG compatible 30 round magazines is removed, as reliability was in question and it added generally unused unnecessary weight. The vehicle mounting lug can be removed if desired, further lowering the weight. The weapon also uses the improved heat guard found on later models.

The weapon's stock can either be fixed or extend able, and in both forms sports a recoil buffer. Multiple stock options exist that are easily interchangeable, although not all can support the recoil buffer (like the mounted or bar stock). While the different stock options present differing capabilities, the general purpose stock is an extend-able stock based off of the fixed stock. While it carries the same general shape of the fixed stock and a recoil buffer, the stock is less stable and prone to "flexing" when in use.
