User Image Sindre didn't know exactly what was going on.

There had been a lot of talk, lately. Lots of adults talking, anyway. Whispering heads and flying rumors and the sort of talk that pups didn't get to listen in on -- the sort of talk that stopped abruptly when he was around, and the sort that made adults encourage him to go out and play.

Which is precisely what he was doing now: going out to play.

The pup glanced over his shoulder, hopeful that his siblings would be around. Sindre was the sort of well-mannered puppy who never got into trouble, but also tended not to have very much fun on his own, either. He really needed somebody to help push him in the right direction, or else he'd spend all day sitting in the shade quietly waiting for someone to tell him it was alright to come back home.

Maybe he could go out and find some other friends, if his siblings didn't catch up. There were some girl pups that had been born a little bit before he was. But there was something wrong with them, and he wasn't supposed to see them. Maybe the others would know why....

"Will you go away! Stop talking!" Vianshya snapped at her sister, stopping and turning to look behind her. She'd left the den early on purpose, thinking that she could get a feel for more of their packlands on her own, without her siblings distracting her or making it a bothersome task. Unfortunately, that peace hadn't lasted long. Tiyena, her sister, seemed to insist on being everywhere she was and talking incessantly about things she did not care about. Really! Wasn't she the older one?!

Tiyena hadn't let up, even after Vianshya had asked her to, told her to, walked away. Nothing worked! Nothing, it seemed, short of shouting. She really shouldn't shout so close to their den, but in her attempt to get her sister distracted-- or away from her-- she hadn't realized how close to home she'd gotten. She glanced over at the entrance to their den with some surprise and then she was back to glaring at her sister, knowing the silence couldn't last long. If she was going to make an impression she was going to have to do it now, and with a lowered voice.

"Why are you still talking to me," she hissed, set to have quite the fit over her sister's behavior. Vianshya did not have the best temper, something her mother had asked her before to work on. She just couldn't help herself when her siblings could be so... irritating!

"So the hunters have to protect the pack and watch out for funny-colored things--"

Vianshya's outburst startled Tiyena into silence. Her sister had never, in their short lives, been so angry-sounding with her. She had just been trying to share! They would all have to help provide for the pack someday, she thought. That seemed to be the way it worked to her, anyway. Why wouldn't her sister want to know about it? So when Tiyena had left the den and seen her sister distantly walking away, she had rushed to catch up and started in on the topic as soon as she had greeted her. Now, it seemed, she'd made the wrong choice.

Her startle had rendered her dumb a moment too long, as Vianshya followed up her shouted demand with what sounded like a very mean question.

"We're going to have to learn it too and you don't hang around the hunters or guards the way I do! I thought you wanted to learn things! Don't you?" Tiyena asked, hurt and angry at her sister's treatment. Why was she shouting? Tiyena didn't know, but Vianshya shouldn't talk to her like that when she was just sharing. "Mother wouldn't like to know you're shouting at me," she added, completely oblivious that they had come full circle back to their den.
