Heather walked down the apartment hallway, a gentleman down at the entrance had been kind enough to let her in so she had just made her way up to her destination. It seemed a bit strange to her, being there that was. To be fair she hadn't set foot in an apartment building for some time now. All Nightraver meetings were set in her house (she assumed that decision was based solely on the fact that Demy could steal food from the fridge during meetings - though that was better than the alternative of holding them in some taco selling shack so he could eat those. It was a wonder the boy wasn’t the size of a barn. He could pack away the tacos like there was no tomorrow), there was generally a reason to enter one. It was sort of like walking through the hallway of a hotel, which was a little bit nostalgic for the former beauty queen.
A smile tugged at her lips for a brief moment before she found herself turning to look at a door. The number on it was emblazoned with the same one on her paper. Shoving her hand into her jacket pocket, she pulled it out one more time and gave it a once over. She wasn’t just going to knock on some strangers door only to find out it wasn’t where she was supposed to be. Oh well, suck it up princess. It wasn’t like you had anything better to do today anyways. Her other plans had involved going to the mall and doing a patrol later in the evening. Possibly cleaning her house.
Demy’s room was off-limits at this point however. One of these days she was just going to leave a bucket of soapy water and a mop in there, maybe he’d get the clue then. Sighing loudly she shook the idea off and gave a knock on the door. If this did end up being the wrong place, she’d be more than slightly perturbed. Instead of worrying about it, she shoved that thought to the side and would deal with it later. Though if that turned out to be the case, at least she would still be able to make use of it. After all, the energy j-random joe blow would provide was far more valuable than whatever he’d be wasting his or her life on.
It took her a moment to realize there was no sound coming from behind the door. Her face contorted into disappointment and confusion for a moment before she knocked again. A few moments, still nothing. Heather ran a hand back through her hair, it was a nervous tick of sorts. Well, it looked like this was going to be a bust. She should have just stayed at home, or you know. Gone out downtown. Something more useful than standing around in a hallway staring down a door.
Fine. Once more. She reached up again and banged on the door, quite a bit louder this time.
“Hello?”

There was a muffled shout from somewhere inside the apartment. "Coming!"
The visitor was kept waiting about another minute before the footsteps finally looped around to the front. Locks ground their way around to open and the door and a tall teenager with dreadlocks swung it open partway. He sized her up momentarily.
"Oh. You must be..." A pause stretched uncomfortably long between them. Khaldun glanced down for a moment at his open palm. Kaia had written their guest's name on it, apparently quite good at predicting he'd never remember it even if she told him a hundred times. Which she probably had. "... Heather."
He looked back up at her again with an expression like this entire process was slowly killing him. His hand was still being held awkwardly in the traditional cheating-on-the-exam fashion. There was some sort of internal debate as to how to follow up what was already just a fantastic one-sided introduction. Then he offered the same written-on hand for a handshake. "I'm Khaldun."

The response from inside had come just as Heather had been stepping away from the door. Well, at least someone was there. She turned back and waited, now rather impatiently, at the door. She managed to stop herself from tapping her foot and drumming her fingers, but it was a battle fought with great difficulty.
When the youth appeared at the door, she raised an eyebrow as he seemed to fumble with her name. The glance he threw down to his palm didn't go unnoticed, as her own gaze followed his down. When she looked back up he was sounding off her name in a way that seemed clearly uncomfortable coming from his mouth.
As Khaldun extended his marked up hand, she eyed it one more time before sucking it up and shaking it. "Pleasure, I'm sure." she retracted her hand and stared at the boy for a few moments.
"I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume, as I don't recognize your name, that you must be Kaia's pet monkey. The work she's doing training you to read should be well received by the scientific community." the look of sheer dismissal she'd originally given as he'd read off her name was replaced with a bemused smirk.

Oh.
Oh it was ******** on.
"Yeah you've got the wrong monkey. I'm the one that kicks a** and takes names." He continued to hang between the doorframe and the door and thumped one fist against his chest a couple of times. "Worst mistake you could ever make is eye contact. King Kong's got nothing on me. The scientific community's going to lose their s**t if I ever get loose."
But a hallway wasn't any good for discussing what the girl was actually here for. If she knew Kaia, then she had to have checked out as a Negaverser. He stepped aside to let her in the apartment, opening the door wider. "C'mon in then."

Heather watched as the boy thumped his chest, her eyebrow seeming to find a permanent home quirked above her left eye. The smirk remained, and she just shook her head as he went on about King Kong. She was fairly sure that was a line from a movie she'd seen once.
"Well that explains why Kaia must keep you locked up and away. Just a word to the wise, using s**t in any sort of context with monkeys generally isn't top notch there sweetheart."
She took a step in as he opened the door wider, giving the apartment a quick once over. It was small, but tidy. Very basic. It sounded like the tv was on in the main living space, so she'd either interrupted a show Khaldun had been watching, or a nap on the couch. You couldn't tell from looking at his hair if he'd been sleeping or not, dreads did not lend well to that sort of information.
Nor was it critical, though the man could clearly use a makeover. However she was a guest and she'd bite her tongue.
At least in that regard.
"You have a very lovely home." she offered casually, even if she gathered most of the reason it looked as well kept as it appeared was due to the other inhabitant.

Khaldun waited till Heather had walked inside and then began meticulously locking and latching the door. Every girl seemed to hint to him in some form or another to watch his mouth. What was it with girls, anyway. Language was just words. Words didn't hurt people. If you wanted to hurt someone, you could punch them or something. That was so much more direct. But admittedly he was half-smiling. At least she seemed to have a semblance of a sense of humor."I'll try to remember that next time, Princess Semantics."
"Beats living in some corner of the Negaverse freezing your a** off." He had wandered into the room and sat down on one side of the couch. "Or even staying there a minute longer than you have to. We're going to take our calls here, thanks."
He pulled a deep purple crystal out of his pocket and stood it up on the coffee table. It could almost be mistaken for a big chunk of amethyst if not for a faint glow pulsing from the center of it. It was, for all intents and purposes, his cell phone, seeing as nearly all the people he talked to anyway also had one. Thanks to Kaia it was also one of the direct lines to GUARD now, and he was on call 24/7. Until it started going off, they just had to wait. Which really wasn't half-bad of a job.
"So," he began again, "How long have you been..." He waved both hands in the general direction of his sternum, where starseeds were. "... awakened?"

"Semantics? No just facts. Not so much a fan of monkeys flinging feces, an all." Heather half tuned him out as he went on about staying in the apartment vs living in the negaverse. As it stood, she could agree. Having only been to the negaverse a handful of times herself, she couldn't exactly say she'd blame him.
The question about her awakening, so to speak, focused her attention on the dark skinned boy. She gave a half hearted shrug before seeming to place any real attention on the subject. She took a seat on the opposite end of the couch before turning to speak to him again.
"It's been awhile, let's put it that way. It was shortly after the teams had begun to form under Nealite's order." she leaned back into the couch a bit. "Let's see. Over a year I suppose, I started out on Linarite's team, they just sort of tossed me there. You know, with Scheelite, Zinkenite, and Wolframite. Hmm." she made a face, tone a general, the other two, captains. Her original captain now replaced by Scheelite.
Things changed, and they changed so fast. While she could appreciate the fact, it didn't really mean she had to like it.
"How about yourself?"

Khaldun seemed to recognize the names she threw out there, especially one. He grinned maliciously. "Isn't Zinkenite the... he's the short guy right? Like really short. Man, I remember when he was just a lieutenant. He and Scheelite were all over each other, he was afraid the old general-king was going to kick his a** for it. Man. I would have paid to see that."
"Uh." The question was actually surprisingly hard to think on. Some stuff had come back to him, like major events. And some things had kind of fallen through the cracks. But he probably knew enough to give a plausible answer. "I think it's been like... three years? Kinda lost track. I was a captain by the time we had teams, so I got stuck with Manice, Manice's senshi girlfriend, and Fayalite, who was actually not completely insufferable like the first two. Before that the most 'working together' any of us did for longer than an evening was me, Linarite, Obsidian, and Nealite running that youma farm called Barren Pines."

Heather couldn't help but laugh, and she shook her head, waving her hand at the boy across from her. " Both Wolframite and Zinkenite are short. I'm fairly certain that they were in close competition for shortest man in the negaverse. But anyways, suffice it to say that you don't have to worry about seeing Schee and Zink pawing at one another... though I don't particularly recall seeing that. For that much I am more than grateful. My brain doesn't need that image seared there long term. They broke up, oh gee, four... five months ago? If it hasn't been that long, it feels like it." she shrugged.
"I don't think they ever got into any trouble over their relationship really, though it caused some problems afterwards that some others of us had to deal with." her nose wrinkled up as she thought back to the aftermath. It seemed Scheelite was slowly coming around at least, but there were some things she was still less than pleased about.
"Manice?" she raised an eyebrow, not familiar with the name. Fayalite she recognized the name of, if not only for Scheelite. The woman was Zink's right hand far as she could tell. The other names she knew if not recognized.
"Hmm, so basically you've been around awhile then."

"Too bad I'm not still at Hillworth or I could give them both a congratulatory shove face-first into their lockers. Though I guess nothing stops me from teleporting over there to do that," he laughed wryly. Certainly wouldn't have been the first time for Zinkenite. "Just say the word."
"Manice, Uranophane. Don't tell me you haven't seen her before. Impossible to miss - she's the one in a mad scientist getup who always looks like she's been sucking on a lemon." He had retroactively chosen to un-forgive her and continue to leave her unforgiven her for breaking his finger a long time back, though he still forgave her disinterest in his advances. Better to leave her to the pink-haired senshi, she was a nightmare.
"Yeah," he confirmed, though he didn't sound entirely proud of the fact. More bored-sounding than anything else.

"You went to Hillworth? You have my condolences." Heather wasn't terribly fond of the school and it's practices. Though it seemed to work for some of the civilians. To be fair she didn't really understand why those in the negaverse would continue to attend such a facility. There were better options out there and it would not be unlikely for them to get into them.
Who knew.
"Hey I'm only game if you take pictures for me to put in a scrapbook for later. Nothing like savouring the moment. Making memories and all." she grinned.
His explanation of Uranophane left a strange look on her face. Her eyes looked off to the side as she tried to place the name to a face. There were a handful of people who looked cross all the time, but the mad scientist get up was unique. After a few moments, she seemed to have a moment of realization.
"I think I may have seen her in passing, on the battlefields. Can't say I know a damn thing about her outside of that though. To be honest I spend most of my time trying to keep Scheelite in check. The boy bounces around more than his gerbil youma." she shrugged.
The tone he replied to her last question surprised her. That was something she wouldn't have expected.
"What, feeling old are we?"

"I guess. All these low-ranking assholes just get on my nerves lately because of it. They have it pretty ******** easy now." It sounded like it was rant time. Yes, it was rant time. Khaldun didn't reminisce very happily. He leaned forward to the table and lightly flicked his communicator crystal, causing it to wobble. "You know we didn't used to have communicators. Or people with weapons that could actually do s**t. And nobody got to ******** off and collect 'energy'. You had to harvest starseeds, and you had to do it every week. There were like six of us out getting s**t done and all but one of us were just lieutenants, for a ******** long time."
"I don't think any of them are as bad as the senshi, though," he said furtively, watching her closely. Approaching things subtly wasn't a strong point of his, but he liked to think that he could at least read into her reaction. Too many people seemed to have been lulled into a false sense of security about those aliens already. Once an enemy, always an enemy. Those soldiers should at least have painted some nice big targets on their backs as long as they were at it. It would help their new friends stab them all in the backs so much more easily.

"Hmm, yes I do recall the days before energy collecting, and the lack of communicators, though I don't know how remiss I could be about a lack of backup. Times change though, I suppose. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes... not so much." she gave a light shrug, recalling the number of times she'd come across Scheelite on a starseed high. She never did understand the point of consuming them, they had better uses than that.
The mention of senshi reared a confused look from Heather, as she tried to gauge whether or not he was pulling her strings. He lived with a corrupt senshi. After weighing his words for a few moments, it appeared that he was more than serious.
"I think there is room for an exception to that general rule of thumb," she was clearly treading carefully here. "Overall, I tend to agree. I'm not sure how one is expected to trust something that can change sides so easily, not to mention there is always the possibility of them turning away as well." she tapped her chin, thinking it over.
"I haven't dealt with many myself, though Schee did bring one to his team. Hel. She's rather haughty for her intended lot. I don't think she ever quite learned her place any amount of respect." she frowned.
"Not that anything is ever really done about it."
