User Image Rorret was intrigued by the feeling that went through his body: his blood pumped faster, his limbs trembled slightly, his ears ran. He was excited, truly anxious, for the first time in his life.

Intelligence had come to him the day prior from his fox-spy that there was a pup ripe for the picking. Details had been brief, but it seemed that the pup was alone -- or, at least, it had been at the time.

This would be Rorret's first theft, a chance to practice, to test his mettle, to prove himself.

He glanced over his shoulder, casting a thoughtful look at Satoru. Perhaps the shiny wolf was not the best companion to bring along on the adventure, but somehow Rorret felt easier in his company than he did with Elapse. Maybe because Satoru had been the first wolf he had met, the one who had officially brought him home, and in an odd way Rorret felt nostalgic about it. He even sort of liked him, clueless and immature though he was.

But he wouldn't tell him that.

"Keep your eyes out," he said, his voice a low growl. He kept his mismatched eyes trained on the path before him, his ears perked forward, nose twitching. They had wandered quite some distance from home already, and must be growing near to the pup's location. "Jasper said he'd be around here..."

He wondered if the pup would have any family that needed to be dispatched. He almost hoped that he would. Ever since his fight with Azalea, Rorret had been keen to prove himself. But, at the same time...he hoped there would be no need to fight. He was far more skilled in other areas...and though he got his share of joy from destroying lives, he preferred to do it in more subtle ways.

Gods, when was the last time he went hunting? Like . . . never, man.

But then, Satoru had a very bad sense of time. And that was before the 'shrooms period. It had thankfully been done and over with for a while, but from then on the shiny omega never was fully there in the head. Most of the time he operated just fine, but then he's have small episodes like now, where he would try to recall something as simple as his last mission, and draw a huge blank.

Or maybe he really hadn't done anything up until now. So it was good news either way to occupy himself with his buddy Rorret and a new target! Sato's tail waved slightly with excitement. "Remind me what's he look like again," he said in a low tone beside Rorret, in case the pup happened to be, like, right in front of them.

Maybe he had an invisible pelt!

Hey, don't look at him. If he could have a metallic shine, then a wolf could have effin' invisibility.

"Oh . . . And who's Jasper again?" he added sheepishly, which if Rorret was keeping count might be possibly the third time this month.

Okay...maybe bringing him along hadn't been such a great idea after all. He had counted on Satoru's infinite cheerfulness, but the poor memory had -- gods help him -- slipped his mind.

"I think he said he was blue," he said, his voice low to remind him to keep his down, also. "Like the night sky. Something like Xihuitl's pelt."

He shushed the other and held up a paw, staring intently at a dark shape. It was a rock. Dammit. "And Jasper. The fox I have spying for me. Now hush and help me look."

Oh yes. This was going wonderfully.

Apparently one second after Rorret said to hush, Sato forgot it.

"Like the night sky . . ." Satoru trailed off dreamily with a smile. It sounded lovely to have - better than something as useless as a shiny coat. Like, more than healthy shiny coat. How jealous he was! "At least it looks pretty . . . Wasn't there a guy who had all sorts of trees on him too? Lucky bastards."

Though the insult was said in such a happy tone, it couldn't possibly have been meant as an insult.

Satoru put his nose to the ground and sniffed, milling about briefly before moving a little beyond Rorret. "Think I got something," he muttered, tail wagging a little. He was being useful! "Over here. So where's the fox then? Shouldn't he be helping?"

Arcturus had a thing for the night time, it wasn't necessarily that he liked the mystery the darkness created by the lack of light or the mischief it often encouraged no it was simply that he drew comfort from the nights sky. Not only did he feel a strange bond too it considering his pelt mimicked it's beauty but his mother had often told him the story of the myth behind his name and why he'd been bestowed it. Because of this he had a rather nocturnal existence, sleeping predominately in the day time. His parents found this strange behaviour annoying more than anything else as it made watching the young pup difficult, tonight was no exception as he had snuck off out of the den when both his parents had dosed off.

The night and it's sounds didn't frighten the young pup though he had to admit it still made him jump a little to hear an owl calling, for some reason that sound just caused his fur to bristle. He knew a spot not far from the den, he never roamed to far, where the trees broke and a glade formed, he loved the way the moon light basked the small meadow like flowers in a sliver shimmer but more than this it was the spot he came to simply stare up at the stars.

Rorret snorted at Satoru's complaints and wondered, not for the first time, exactly how the shiny wolf had gotten into this pack and how he survived. That was probably why his memory was so bad, Rorret thought -- whatever he did to make him able to handle life here had done that to him.

"Jasper does reconaissance work," he said, patiently. Recon. A. Sense. Recon. Con-artist. Conniving. Conniption. He smirked to himself. "Not out on the front lines. That what the likes of us are here for!"

Maybe Satoru's cheerfulness was catching. He really was feeling uncommonly pleased right now. He shifted his path, following the scent Satoru had caught. It was pup smell, he thought. Male pup smell, just through the break in the trees.

He lifted his tail like a flag as he peered through a gap in the trees, catching sight of the pup. Ah, he was a handsome little thing. And, as promised, all alone. This would be easy. Practically scavenging.

"We'll take him willingly, if we can," he said, quietly, hoping against hope that Satoru would take the hint and be quiet. "If it comes to it, we'll use force. Here...you go out first and strike up a conversation. I'll keep an eye out for his mother."

It amused him greatly that, here he was, ordering about his elder as though he were in charge. And the best part is that Satoru would probably be more than happy to play along.

"Willingly, yes! Always best to go willingly," Sato agreed with an almost sagely bob of his head. That was how he had been introduced to the Brotherhood - along with some guilt-tripping. He had at the time been a regular pup, one who was forcing himself on patrol in response to the recent attempt a stranger had done to pupnap his siblings. Satoru had blamed himself for not being there, and hence he had been alone when Elapse had found him.

Ah. He rarely thought of his family now. Too much pain when he tried, too little memory if there wasn't. Besides, they had probably moved on by now, right? It'd been months now.

Tail wiggling a little bit, he padded along forward to engage the pup up ahead, his green eyes watching him with wonderment. What a pretty pelt! Gods, I'm jealous . . . It wasn't hard at all for him to conjure up a grin, slowing as he approached. "It's such a nice night out, isn't it," Sato began, following the pup's skyward gaze. "Stars lighting the way, moon keeping watch, owls hooting their silly heads off. Makes you wanna stay up all night just to experience it all, eh?"

Arcturus was so mesmerised by the stars and their appeal that he failed to hear the strange wolf approach him. He twisted his head reluctantly taking his eyes from the twinkling orbs of fire in the sky and stared warily at the other wolf, his eyes narrowing at the sight of his cape. He'd never seen the likes before and more than this the wolves coat was a dazzling gold and shimmered in the most unnatural way but his manner was easy and their was a genuine friendly warmth to his voice that eased Arcturus' suspicions that he was harmful. He took another look at the stranger and then followed his eyes up to the sky and stared back up at the sky.

He didn't look at the other when he replying, simply talking up at the stars, 'I always stay up, night time is far better than the day.' Not a wolf of many words, just simply fact he was often monosyllabic in his speech and often to those that didn't know him well considered him cold, disconcerting and slightly rude. He of course was none of those, just he simply didn't wish to waste time chatting when peace and observation were often far more rewarding.'I don't like owls.' he said almost as an after thought.

"Really? Me neither," Satoru agreed without really knowing if he actually believed it, but still with the conviction as if he did. Who had time to develop opinion about birds anyway? "My brothers and I, we really like the night too. It's when we walk the land, where no-one can get in the way and stuff."

He almost giggled. It was so fun to talk about multiple things with just one sentence! Maybe this was what smart wolves felt like all the time.

"I bet you'd like them. There's even this one guy who looks like a whole forest is painted on his fur," Sato added with his grin still going. "And there's another guy who looks like a comet. You should totally come meet them!"

Rorret, still hidden in the shadows, rolled his eyes. Well, at least the pup was very young. Probably too young to realize what an idiot Satoru was making of himself.

It made a smile touch his maw, however. It hadn't been so long ago that Satoru and David had discovered him and his brother. Satoru's methods hadn't changed much then.

He flicked his ear, casting bi-colored eyes around in the darkness for any sign of interference. He'd give them a little more time to chat before he decided to step in...

User ImageA nose slid out of the leafy cover, followed by a pink head. Ears pricking forward, Jasper concealed a smile as he heard the low murmur of voices. His directions had been clear enough, and judging by the familiar scent in the air, Rorret wasn't far.

Retreating a few light steps, the fox circled around, delicately avoiding interrupting the conversation. A long pause as he judged the possible escape routes the pup could take, and Jasper calmly moved himself into unobtrusive view. It was his experience that those being hunted would show less caution if another prey animal was nearby and unconcerned. Keeping a careful ear towards the talk, the fox casually gnawed at an itch on the base of his dark brown tail.
