User ImageThe sun was high in the sky, casting very short shadows beneath the breeze ruffled trees. A strong wind was occasionally blowing through the forest nearby, making the tree branches bend towards the bright blue mare in the clearing. She was standing close to the trees, her head held up with her eyes closed against the gentle caress of the wind. She loved the wind. Oh, how she loved the wind. One would be surprised of this, with how long her mane was. It always got tangled from the wind. Ni'awtu didn't care. It wasn't like she was out to impress anyone or anything. So why care about your looks? She didn't let her mane collect twigs and leaves like some other Soq might. So it got a little tangled sometimes. Big deal. It was still clean and always wavy.

And it also wasn't like anyone ever called her hair anything but a pain. No. She definitely wasn't out to impress anyone. Not unless they were him.

Lowering her head, eyes stilled closed, Ni'awtu shook it to rid herself of those thoughts. That was something best left in the past. Yet it always haunted her waking moments. How was she to get along on her own if he kept torturing her from beyond the grave like this?

With a sigh, the mare opened her eyes and started forward, only to find herself thrown backwards with a sharp cry of pain. Turning her head revealed her mane to be caught in a nearby branch. Further tugging on it did nothing but cause more pain to her neck. There wasn't enough room to hover in the air and try to dislodge the black mess from the branch. It appeared-and she didn't want to admit it-that she was trapped to this spot.

Snorting, she looked over the branch for any easy ways to untangle the hair and get free before real trouble came her way. Perhaps if she pulled on this little strand here...

Shaking his mane, Keahi could feel the weight of his long braid shift. Part of it was so warm, from soaking up the morning's heat. Looking down towards the end of it, he could easily see where it had been dragging. On most days, he'd keep his long braid draped over his back, but he'd been running earlier in the morning, and it naturally slid off.

Taking in a deep breath, Keahi actually found himself rather bored. He was away from his family, and that was probably what caused most of his boredom. Sure, there could be tense times, just as in any family, but there was never a dull moment with them, unlike now. Though, it really did feel rather nice knowing that he was out on his own, for once. It was a great sense of freedom and responsibility, and it swelled within him.

Looking around, Keahi really was alone. There didn't seem to be anyone else around, except for the birds chirping in the trees. Sometimes, he wished he could fly around like them, unlimited to the ground beneath his large hooves. What it would be like, to be like his mother and two siblings, with wings large enough to carry him anywhere in the world. But, this is how he was, and he was thus very much grounded.

Ears twitching at the slightest sound, they swiveled to the side, hearing a sharp sound. It seemed to only last a moment, but it really piqued the male's interest. He was, after all, very alone and very bored, finding interest even in the slightest things. Especially this, as he couldn't really put a name on what he thought made the sound. Heading towards where he thought he heard the sound, it wasn't hard to see the blue figure ahead through the trees. It startled him for a moment, mainly since he had never seen something that color, but he wasn't all that worried. Moving closer, he could clearly see what it was - the hooves, the wings - there was no mistaking it, especially since Keahi had grown up with winged ones around him.

"Are you stuck?" He called out; glancing over the rest of the other, he could see the tangle of hair and branch; he almost laughed, as the same thing had happened to him before, though not to much severity.

Ni'awtu had turned back around to the branch before the orange stallion could approach her. She had the stuck strand in her mouth, biting down on it hard, and was pulling on it. By how little it yielded, she figured a tangle was snagged. Her hair was a little unbrushed, lately. She didn't trust branches not to snatch her and hold her hostage, like one was now.

But she did need to get her hair brushed. This was no win/win situation. Either her hair slowly got more tangled or she risked getting stuck by brushing it. This was no better than being trapped between a pack of hungry wolves or having to cross a river where the only way through has a raging rapids just a few feet down. Either way, she was in danger if anything happened to stumble by her stuck self and decide she would be an easy snack.

So when the other Soq approached her, she was more than grateful for the assistance. She just wouldn't outwardly show it.

"Mhm," was all Ni'awtu could say. Not just due to the hair in her mouth. She wasn't very good with social situations. Never quite knowing how to word things or what to say. She noticed his hair was in a braid, though. That looked more practical than her two tiny ones near her ear. Though she liked her curls. They would be hidden by the braid if she went the same route as the stranger.
