((First. Also, excuse the short post. I couldn't really think of what to do with it.))

Balamaethor "Bale" Calminaion
Ranger- Associate of the Fighter's Guild
Imperial City- Market District
What's All This About?

Bale wandered the streets of the Market District, counting the gold he had received for his transaction at The Copious Coinpurse- he was amazed how much people were willing to pay for enchanted clothing. The City was busy today- some sort of event was being held by a group from the Mages Guild to find random marbles scattered throughout the city. Those who found a lot of them would apparently get some interesting prizes.

He found the whole idea a bit absurd, but one of the possible prizes was Dwemer weapons and armor. A Dwarven claymore would be a perfect weapon for him, so as he pocketed his gold, he began searching.

Eliya ~

Eliya brushed her red hair out of her eyes as a particularly feisty gust of wind danced past. Despite this minor annoyance, the Altmer's face held a smile. She was on a scavenger hunt and though she had thus far found only one marble, she was having a good day. Lately it had seemed that her days were full of nothing but studies at the University, day in and day out. It left very little time for recreation. Occasionally, every few weeks to every few months she would go on select excursions to earn extra coin and it had been a good two months since her last assignment. This activity the Mage's Guild had put together was a perfect opportunity to relax and have fun. FUN?

Hmmm... that was something she hadn't thought about for quite a while. Maybe fun wasn't the right word. Regardless, Eliya found herself walking down one of the main streets of the Market District, her green eyes scanning everything she walked by, looking for those pesky marbles.

Velryn stepped out into the clear air of the University's grounds, his scarlet eyes raking the familiar gardens and stone benches with a new light. Each nook and cranny, every rock and furnishing, was a hiding spot to now be searched. The immediate area had already had a good going-over by other mages, so he decided not to waste time searching here. There was an entire city to scour!

He closed the door leading to the dormitories he was staying at and stretched languorously for a moment. The truth of the matter was that the dunmer was barely and to suppress his eagerness to swarm the city in search of the marbles hidden throughout it. It was just the sort of diversion he had been looking for recently...

With his features composed, he set out, his long legs quickly eating up the distance. Velryn had chosen a pair of dark trousers and a myrtle-green tunic with short sleeves that were loose and easy to move in; despite the general security of the city, he had strapped on longsword and dagger. The belt pouch at his waist held a few coins, but was mostly empty and awaiting his find of the hidden marbles.

As he marched, he pondered the layout of the locale districts. He knew the Imperial City well, but he had no idea where he wanted to start looking. That thought sobered him, and Velryn slowed his pace long before he reached the University's gates. I should see if anyone else is going, he thought. Two sets of eyes are better than one, after all. The sociable sorcerer glanced about his immediate location, searching for a friendly and familiar face or two.

There had to be someone or someones around who were also interested in the enigmatic scavenger hunt.

                                                  Active : None.

Tanna was perched upon a flowering wall within the arcane university grounds, with her nose in a book. Its title suggested it was about Ayleid ruins. Tanna often feigned an interest in the ancient ruins; it was her third most used excuse to explain her absence from the guild, next to finding alchemic ingredients and getting lost on the roads. Of course in this case she was merely waiting for the commotion pertaining to a childish scavenger hunt to die down, so she could get on with requesting some ingredients. She also wanted to search some of the libraries less accessible texts on alchemy, (particularly poisons), but with so many people pulling books from shelves just to check for marbles, Tanna didn’t want to take the risk of someone finding out the context of her research. So she sat on the wall, reading her book and only occasionally lifting her gaze to smile warmly at someone who waved at her. She also tapped the heel of her foot against the stone, being a Bosmer meant that her feet didn’t quite touch the ground. However, just then, even though she’d been repeating this foot tapping for the last hour since dawn, her foot hit a peculiar stone, that felt like it wasn’t in place.

Putting the book down open on the wall beside her, the Bosmer then spread her legs slightly and bent over, so her head was roughly between her knees. A normal person would have stood up and knelt down before the wall, Marilien Amarth would had done this too, but she had gotten used to, and good at, playing this clumsy, slightly unorthodox alias. Tanna ignored the blood rushing to her head and reached to grab the shifty stone, which came away surprisingly easily considering she had just kicked it a second ago. As she took the stone, something small and glassy rolled to the edge and she caught it, using relaxes Tanna wasn’t known to possess. Inwardly she scolded herself for the slip up, but then again everyone else was so focused on the hunt would they have even noticed. With the marble in one hand, the other appendage forced the stone back into place, which fit seamlessly now the marble had been removed. She righted herself and looked quizzically at the glassy sphere on her palm. Was everyone really going mad over these things, for what purpose?

Maybe she hadn’t read the poster properly, she glanced around and located one on a nearby wall and made her way casually over to it. She remembered glancing at the bigger text the night before, but in the dark and shade of Marilien’s hood it been impossible to make out the smaller writing, which Tanna could see now was describing a reward system. Tanna considered this for a moment while rolling the marble thoughtfully between her thumb and index finger. ”The rewards could be useful,” she mused and then pocketed the marble. She turned back to the lower wall and retrieved her book, then stuffed it into her canvas pack. As she did she heard the sounds of someone approaching, but rather than turn and address this person, giving them the impression she had near godly senses, she swung the pack over she shoulder, turned, then walked smack, face first, into the fellow. ”Ouch,” she said reflexively and putting a hand up to touch her face, when in reality it had hurt her very little. ”Oh sorry…” She looked at the tall Dunmer male and added, ”Velryn, I guess I should have looked where I was going. Sorry, you’re not hurt are you?” she looked abashed while she apologised, but once again in reality, Marilien was smug that her acting skills were so brilliant.

Zel was all over this. He had lived in the Imperial City long enough to maneuver himself decently, and without his weapons he had both hands free to climb, scale, and even jab a hand into any suspicious-looking nook and cranny. The fact that he wasn't in his battle robes also made it easy for him to blend into a crowd. It would definitely be bad for business if he had competition following him around. The red linen swashbuckler's shirt and linen breeches made him look like little more than a commoner who saw his fair share of "action", from the stretch marks on the shirt. It was actually in rather good condition, considering the number of times it had been pulled off hastily. Marbles, marbles, marbles... it couldn't be that hard, now, could it?

A grated well behind the market district seemed full of opportunity. Zel leaned in over the well, casting a short-duration night's eye spell as he peered down, looking for something to catch his eye. Disappointed, he plunged a hand as far as he could go through the grates, checking each nook and cranny for a marble... until he found it. A round, smooth pearl-like texture at the end of his fingers. The feeling was quite similar to when you're fourteen, shy as hell, and you ask the girl of your dreams out, knowing full well she's going to shoot you down, and then being met with a "sure; why the ******** not." It was a chaotic mess of surprise, bewilderment, and child-like excitement as Zel made a grin that only the Cheshire Cat could top. After making a strong, conscious effort to repress the desire to jump up and down on the spot, he pressed two fingers against the marble, holding it like a peanut between chopsticks, as he slowly pulled the marble out.

See, the problem with holding a spheroid with chopsticks was that if you put too little pressure, the package slips and falls, and if you put too much, it slips and flies, which is typically the worse of the two, especially on the dinner table. Underestimating how little friction a marble usually imposes, he most definitely pressed too hard just as he brought the marble to the grate so he could take a look at it.

Naturally, the angry marble flew straight into his eye, and as Zel swore in pain, cupping his hands as he brought them up to catch the marble, the marble hit his hands - before bouncing off and landing in his open, swearing mouth, sliding down his tongue as it lodged itself in his throat. Eyes going wide open in terror, Zel took a number of steps back, hands wrapped around his throat, dreading the possibility of swallowing the marble, before slamming his head against a stone wall, the painful bark letting the marble dance along his throat as he dropped to his knees, coughing like the world depended on it, until finally a small gleam shot out and landed in the grass. It sat there innocently as he picked it up, panting. "You had better... be worth the trouble..." he said in between pants, his other hand still nursing his own sore head.

Eliya ~

The Market District was bustling with people, many likely not just shoppers but others who hoped to find a rare marble. The great thing about the scavenger hunt that the Mage's Guild had put together was that anyone at all could participate. Rich man or beggar alike.

Eliya walked down the street, her slim fitting black shirt and pants not screaming that she was from the Arcane University, or even the Mage's Guild. Nope, today she was a civilian, hunting like all the others for a prize. Despite all the milling people, a certain white haired man's curious behavior pulled at her attention. Was he... choking? Raising an eyebrow, she moved through and around people until she was closer. She arrived a few feet behind him just in time to see him spit out something. As her green eyes saw it reflect in the grass, she smirked at his words.

"I'm sure it will be. Though I would recommend a less painful approach."

The dunmer had been walking along the raised portion of the sidewalk prior to his encounter with Tanna. It was not exactly easy to keep both eyes peeled for a possible companion and marbles, and ultimately Velryn's attention was drawn to sweeping the buildings nearby. The sunlight glinted on somewhat moderately high up, perched on the stone sill of a residence. With a sudden grin, he bounded towards it and studied the face of the wall. As with much of the city's construction, it was quite well-made and at one point, the surface would have been incredibly smooth. Time had worn at the mortar between the stones, and a growth of ivy vines had furthered the deterioration.

If he was careful...

Velryn took a few moments to plot his course, then cracked his knuckles. With his joints limber, the sorcerer found finger-and-toe holds and began to ascend as rapidly as he dared. The glass sphere was fortunately not located on the top floor but the second, and he was able to perch precariously above a first-floor door. By making use of a decorative ledge that ran about the tops and sides of the windows and entrances, Velryn was able to balance somewhat on the tips of his boots. He strained a moment, shifted higher, and felt his fingers snatch not one, but two prizes.

When he removed his right hand to make the grab, that left the wedged-in fingers of the other hand as his sole upper body anchor. He was far from used to scrabbling up buildings and quickly felt himself slithering too far over. Fist clamped about his prizes, he decided to try and jump in a controlled manner than fall in a chaotic one, and released himself from the wall. Velryn landed well, fortunately, as the earth below was softer than stone and he know how to absorb some of the impact. Still, he felt a little winded.

Success!

He opened his palm to snicker at the pair of smokey glass orbs, and as he was turning to wander off and find more, somewhat smacked right into him. He felt a moment of frustration, but that immediately lifted--he hadn't been paying attention, either! And when he recognized the face, with purple eyes and Bosmer features, his smile came back. "Tanna," he said, with a bit of surprise. "Hurt? No, no, not at all!" he said, with all honesty. Then he opened his hand to show her what he had found.

"See what I found, up on that sill? They're all over the place. I was going to take a walk and see if I could find more. Do you want to come along?" The dunmer asked, as he put both marbles within the confines of his belt-pouch. He hoped Tanna would say yes and join him. True, she was a clumsy lass, but this would be a good opportunity to get to know her. It never hurt to have an acquaintance with someone else who shared a hobby; in this case, alchemy sprang to mind, but he recalled Tanna was a caster as well. He'd have to ask which school she focused on.

Zel lifted himself up while nursing his sore head, the hand letting loose a soft, white nimbus as he healed himself and his aching headache subsided. The voice was foreign, but definitely female. As he turned to face his new company, he couldn't help but be drawn to her eyes, emerald hues sparkling like a lake in moonlight behind exquisite locks of red hair. Sure, they were Christmas colors, but they looked good on her. Come to think of it, he swore he had seen her before. Zel was rarely one to forget a face. "Easier said than done." he replied with a chuckle once he had composed himself enough that he wasn't panting anymore.

He had definitely seen her in the University before. It could have been during one of those late-night "alchemy" sessions over at the Atrium. No. The library. That was it. He had been doing some research for an essay on the properties of Spiddal Stick, and she had been reading a book of her own... something about mooning necromancers. It seemed like a much more straightforward approach to just incinerate them, but whatever floats your boat. He outstretched a hand to the girl. Mages typically had better memories than most, all that intelligence had to go somewhere, so she would likely remember his face too. "I believe we've met, but barely. The name's Zelindor, but everyone calls me Zel. And you are?"

Eliya ~

Th female Altmer allowed a small smile to line her full lips as the man introduced himself. His expression told her that he recognized her even before his words did. She reached out to politely and briefly shake his hand, letting go before anything became awkward by an unintentional lingering touch. Eliya seemed to recall him from somewhere at the Arcane University, but the details were escaping her mind for some reason. "Zelindor, a pleasure to make your acquaintance. You may call me Eliya."

The redheaded mage met his eyes as she introduced herself. There was something strangely magnetic about them and momentarily discomforted she looked away, pretending to continue her search for marbles. "Perhaps I should keep you company in your search for these dangerous marbles." A teasing tone emphasized her last words to cover any unsettledness she had just felt. Eliya wasn't generally one to approach someone and make friends, but this man was attractive and a fellow mage who also attended the University. Perhaps it was a good time to began the effort of making a friendship. The elf didn't mind being a loner.... her studies kept her extremely busy. But occasionally....sometimes in between assignments and studies....sometimes she felt rather lonely.

"Unless you'd rather go at it alone. I'm sure there are other marbles in need of swallowing." Her words continued teasingly. This was a strange day....and thus far seemed to be turning into a good one. "So how many have you found thus far?" Eliya continued to look for marbles as she spoke, beginning to walk along, hoping Zel would walk with her.

Health: Perfect

Location: Imperial City - Green Emperor Way

Mood: Irritated

xxThe dark imperial woman walked around the circle of Green Emperor Way scanning the area for those blasted marbles that she was having such a hard time with finding. She swears that they are all mocking and laughing at her as she passes by not being able to detect them. The guards seemed to be amused with her as she circled by them for the fifth time. Every time she heard a peep out of one she would turn and ward them off with her raging stare. There was no way she was going to miss out on this chance to get better equipment. Her things right now were just s**t for her and her armor was really not doing much for her. She was a close range warrior and she needed better armor. She had her eye on the new set of chainmail armor up as one of the prizes and she had made it her goal to win it.

xxEventually she gave up and slide down one of the pillars in the main circle of Green Emperor Way. As she sat there she watched people pass by. Beggar's, nobles, travelers you name it they were all there. She knew no one and felt the sting of loneliness or was this actually her irritation turning into boredom? She did not know how to describe her feelings anymore all she could do now was stare up at the heavens and curse it for not letting her find the marbles she so greatly wanted.

Eliya. He had heard the name before. Definitely Altmer. He had a feeling the girl was a high elf, but considering how human-like the heartland high elves looked, probably from traces of mixed blood, he had thought not to say anything so as not to make things awkward. Red hair, for one, was a distinct oddity among Altmer. Looked pretty as hell, though. Or maybe it was just Zel had a thing for redheads and didn't know it yet, considering how few he'd seen.

Zel laughed at the mention of the oh-so-dangerous marbles. "Thank you so much, Eliya." he said with a grin and a feminine, teasing voice. "With muscle like you by my side, those horrid marbles won't stand a chance." He gave a chuckle before returning to his normal tone. "Though, to be honest, I'd welcome another pair of eyes. Especially pretty ones like yours." he winked. There was no hiding the fact that he liked her eyes, he imagined she could see that, so why bother keeping it in?

He beckoned her over as the two set off back on the road to find any more potential locations. "C'mon." he said with a smile, "We've got walls to climb, sewers to raid and marbles to devour." Typically he would settle for a girl who had either looks or humor. This one seemed to have both. Perhaps today was turning up after all. "The first of many more to come." he said in reply to her question with a smile. If he was any judge, they were going to get along just fine.
