Painite was feeling good, as was often the case. She had been having a lot of fun recently with her work for the Negaverse, meeting more of her fellows, and even making friends in her civilian life. Everything seemed to be looking up, since the string of fights that had brought her spirits down.

Now she knew she couldn't let things like that get in her way. She would always lose fights, that wasn't the issue, so long as she had a chance to come back and prove herself. She had done it against that senshi with the fire, and she would find those two Pages eventually.

And make them truly pay.

Confidence was oozing from her. She attributed some of it not only to her new outlook, which was actually the same one she always had just repolished after a beating, but to her new friends. Her teammate, the negas she'd been bumping into, the corrupted senshi she had finally started seeing and meeting, the guardian cat that looked out for her. She had a lot of things to be unfathomably thankful for. That fueled her motivation.

Humming to herself, she looked at the unconscious civilians around her.

She had been in the park, powered up, near the end of the usual evening for the park. It wasn't the most populated of areas, but that was just fine. She managed to lure a few joggers and a picnicking family on their way home to her by doing Shakespeare monologues. By the end of it, she had orbs of energy and a couple dollars in tips.

Not a bad haul.

Sighing, she pulled a bush in front of the bodies, now all piled on top of one another and hidden as out of sight as she could get them.

The park was a surprisingly long place. When they'd specified 'the south end', Ilmenite had expected that to be enough information that they'd easily bump into each other, that he'd be able to spot the other officer from a distance. He'd thought she'd be out in the open, that he'd wave and approach, easy going and simple.

But the south end was almost big enough to get lost in, and he should have specified southeast or southwest, perhaps. As such, instead of showing up on time he showed up almost ten minutes later, after playing a game of 'hot and cold' and trying to locate the dark aura that he associated with the Negaverse.

It left him a little grumpy, shaking himself off as he finally spotted bronze through the trees, the glint of light off the cogs adorning her uniform.

"...hey!" It was too loud in the quiet, maybe, and he grimaced as he did it. Hopefully, though, it'd at least catch her attention. "Painite?"

Painite felt an energy signature coming up toward her, but knew it wasn't anything to worry about. Unless one of her own was suddenly championing the civilians, and didn't like her making a pyramid out of them.

She turned and saw the Negaverser, smiling at him deviously as she pretended to hide the civilians behind her back. About as subtle as a kid guiltily hiding the last cookie from their siblings.

"Hello there," she said, not minding the vocal level. She watched him in wonder, tilting her head to the side. "So you're Ammo's body guard, huh? Ilmenite." She grinned and offered him her hand, bouncing over to him. She stood an enthusiastic four foot two, if she rounded up, and her bright expression was warm and friendly.

She was always glad to meet new Negaverse folks, though this meeting was odd indeed. She had never had to go through someone just to hang out with a friend before, but she couldn't blame him for wanting to protect the amnesiac Ammo. A new corrupted senshi was worth taking care of, and being extra cautious for.

In contrast, Ilmenite topped six feet, stretched out and thin, and his own expression -- usually friendly, yes -- was faded out to something wary as his eyes flicked over her head to the pile of bodies behind her. It wasn't that he objected to the energy gathering but...well, that was just irresponsible. Even as he took her hand, his own shake automatic and well-trained, his eyebrows knitted just a little bit closer together.

"...sometimes...what the hell are you doing here?" Dark eyes finally flicked downward to meet hers, and Ilmenite was grateful once again that he'd hit captain. It meant he could ask these kinds of questions, disapprove loudly and visibly...

Painite grinned.

"Nothing, just passing some time," she intoned in her lightly accented tone. She smiled. "Don't you worry, I'll get all this cleaned up. I was just getting them out of the way in case anyone else wandered over. Getting later now, though."

She waved her hand. She wasn't too fussed about others, other Captains or any other rank, asking her about her methods and choices. She was always confident that her devious plots would work out how she wanted them to, and if they didn't she could improvise.

Most of the time.

"I was doing some Shakespeare monologues. I made some tips." She grinned broadly. "Anyway, it's a pleasure to meet you. Ammo said I couldn't get her to come out and play until I met you and got you to approve of me. So, I guess you're her discerning parent, and I'm trying to score a date with her? I promise I'll have her home by ten."

"What, serio..." Oh. Painite was joking -- naturally. Not actually a date. Which was a good thing, because the idea of Lyra on a date had already made his mind start to turn to mush. She was too young to date. Nevermind that Zac was the same age; she was a bouncy girl, she reminded him too frequently of his sister.

It was just gross, in every sense of the word.

"Hmmp. Yeah, I guess so. You need help moving them out onto benches, or something?" He nodded to the piles, his voice somewhat coaxing, hinting. If she hadn't been planning on doing that, it would be wise for her to at least pretend she had. Or he might say 'no' to the little date.

"If you think no one else is going to show up to see! I figured I would move them after our meeting. I got a little... distracted." She chuckled. She couldn't help but give in to an opportunity to steal some energy, especially if that opportunity involved acting.

She smiled and moved to grab one of the top bodies, dragging it out and tossing it over. She wasn't an idiot, of course, despite how she acted, and gathering energy was one of her favorite things to do. Cleaning up after her plots and games was just as important as the set up.

Humming, she hauled a young woman over to a bench, to sit her down with her husband. She kept an eye out for anyone.

"Now, I have to wonder why I have to ask you for permission to hang out with a friend of mine, and help her learn a few things about the job." She looked at him, her hand still on the woman she was propping up's shoulder, her eyes keen and sharp.

Ilmenite hesitated a moment, trying to decide if he should help or not -- and then, instead, set to watching down the path for any oncoming traffic. Let her play her little game, and he'd make sure they didn't get caught at it, didn't get in trouble, didn't spread yet more bad publicity. Fidgety, he fought the urge to pace, and when she looked up at him, his attention was turned the other way.

They were all different in uniform. Or maybe only most. He gave Zink a hard time for it, but that probably wasn't entirely fair: powered up, Ilmenite had a much easier time keeping his mouth shut and staying focused that Ever did...

He blinked, half-turned at the question, and tilted his head to the side. "You're not asking permission. I just want to make sure she's not going to get herself into trouble."

Didn't meet her eyes for long, though, before his attention flitted down the path. "Senshi don't like her much."

Painite, despite all previous indications that such things were impossible for her, grew serious at that comment.

"I don't think they would. But that's alright, I don't like senshi. I'll keep her safe from any trouble of that sort, don't you worry. She's a very sweet girl, and I wouldn't allow anything to happen to her."

Anyone who messed with Ammo would meet the sharp end of Painite's javelin. And they were both the sharp end.

She continued to drag the bodies into place, leaving the couple leaning against one another, looking quite lovey. Maybe they had just fallen to sleep on a very sweet date in the park. Hopefully no muggers came over and saw them ripe for some thieving.

But that was beyond Painite's control.

She moved over to Ilmenite, smiled, hands on her hips when she came to a stop.

"I'm glad she has people looking out for her, though, especially with her memories missing."

As she approached he straightened; not specifically making a point of the height difference between them, but instinctively squaring his shoulders to stare down a very long nose at her. Ilmenite wasn't haughty. He probably couldn't pull off haughty if he tried. But he sure as hell was tall.

"Only the old memories are missing, and I'm not sure that's a terrible thing, considering her background." He shrugged off the concern and her appreciating both, his own arms folding somewhat protectively across his chest. Uncomfortable playing protective older brother, maybe.

"She should be alright. She seems happy enough, anyway. Just try not to, um, ******** her up too much. She's kind of sweet, you know?"

Painite rarely seemed to notice height, unless it suited her. At the moment, it didn't, so she glanced up at him any differently then before, smiling as always.

That didn't mean she wasn't aware of his efforts.

"Well, I did just say that, so I'm aware of her being sweet," she laughed, clapping him on the shoulder. "Relax. I've been at this a while now. And I'm no more keen of her getting hurt than you are. We won't run off fighting any senshi, I'm just going to show her a little bit about draining energy. If any senshi show up, we'll just teleport away."

Or she'd stab them with the Spirit. Either way.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 10:23 am

He was awkward at this. He opened his mouth to repeat it again -- but she's sweet, as if that'd stop Painite from taking her energy gathering or get rid of her quota -- but snapped it closed before he repeated himself. Instead he made a short noise, fighting the urge to shrug off her hand and feeling somewhat like an a**.

"Don't let her get..." Corrupted was a bad word, wasn't it? Ilmenite actually flushed, frustrated with himself for even thinking it, and annoyed by the way language seemed to be escaping him today. "Yeah, whatever, I'm sure she'll survive."

Painite smiled.

"Don't worry, I understand. I'll keep her safe, in every regard, okay?" she could be serious when she needed and wanted to, and sincere to boot. She patted him on the shoulder and looked around, glad to see there were no unwelcomed guests dropping by.

The people she had drained were soon all positioned about the place, and she imagined they would have no idea what hit them once they woke up.

"So! How did you meet her, anyway? I mean, I mostly ran into her on accident, but I'm very glad I caught her." She chuckled, meaning that literally. Sabine had stepped into one of Painite's civilian traps, and that was what started their first conversation together.

If Ilmenite was so protective of her, he must have had a good reason. Of course, she didn't know about any of their private relationships, beyond Ammolite mentioning her brother.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 16, 2011 10:59 am

"She's Z..." A pause, a breath. Ilmenite could take a moment and think of this, so he didn't make a total a** of himself. How many people actually knew that Ammolite was Zink's sister? Would letting that relationship out cause problems? LIkely, as people had known Lyra's civilian identity, from the other side...He swallowed the rest of that sentence and worked fingers up through the mess of his hair.

"She's living with me, for the time being. Until she gets sent back to school. And Zinkenite's in...in charge of her, I guess, so he'll kick my a** if I screw it up." That was close enough to true. It'd be more like puppy eyes or sharp words, but that was a kind of a** kicking.

Ilmenite flashed a look around, then his attention resettled on Painite. "It's okay, though, I think you're good if you want to...I don't know. We should get out of here before someone shows up."

"Her brother," Painite said, offering a smile. "I imagine he'd take care of her, so it's not a far leap to assume he'd be . Also, she told me."

She had also mentioned not telling too many people, so she understood the need to keep the information safe. It was always dangerous, having friends and family in the 'job'. It made them targets, even moreso than if they were just solo soldiers. Not that she believed there was anyone sans friends of some kind.

She smiled and nodded her head.

"I appreciate you taking the time, at any rate! She's lucky that she has a friend like you, and I know she appreciates it as well. Anyway! I think these guys are all settled and sleeping peacefully, so my work here is done. Pleasure meeting you, Captain," she offered her hand, smiling brightly.
