Dufi had been swimming; her fur was all wet and sticking to her body as she lay in the sand. Her paws still being hit by the waves as they gently caressed the shore. It was a good day and a hot one, even she could feel the heat and she generally didn’t care too much about the weather whether it was hot or cold she was usually happy. For now though she was laying breathing heavily wondering why it was so hot.
She licked her paw tasting the sand on it and sighed. She loved the sea, she didn’t love the sand sticking to her once she was out.
“Oh sand why do you do this to me?” She whispered as she then continued to lick at her paws.
The lobster colored male slinked from the nice shade of the trees on just near the beach, out onto the sands. Yellow sun rays had already warmed the golden grains that caressed his feet to the point, even though the sun had barely made its way into the afternoon sky. His golden eyes caught sight of the female he had met just a few suns ago, doing the things she said she absolutely loved to do---swimming. He smiled, remembering the conversation they had about her speaking with the water. Even though most would consider her nuts for doing such a deed, this lion did not. Everyone was different in every way, why should she not be. He padded up to the female, grinning widely as she cleaned the wet sand off the fur. “The sand likes you. It wants to cling to you,” he chuckled.
Dufi looked up and smiled.
“Heya!” She rolled over and sat up so that she didn’t look as bad, though the white and blue of her coat seemed to turn a slight golden colour as she sat up.
“Yet you seem to be right about that… It tastes horrible though!” She licked her paw again and then looked as if she was going to be sick but she smiled at him. “I told the sand off but it seems to have ignored me. Maybe the sand is not as nice as the sea.” She looked out at the large water and smiled, nothing was as good as the sea.
“What are you upto anyway?”
“Perhaps the sand doesn’t like to be eaten; therefore it ignores you because you lick off their comrades?” Quidytch tried to think like the female. Although he couldn’t ‘hear’ the words the ocean spoke to the lioness, in her mind it did. He shrugged his shoulders. “The same old. Walking on the beach, admiring the big blue ocean.” What more could you ask for when it came to the pride that made homage to the great sea.
Hmmmm he had a point. She looked at the sand on the ground and then at her paw and then looked at him.
“But what can I do to get it off then?” She really was curious, he made a lot of sense to her, she hadn’t thought about it that way before. She pawed at the sand a little and then sighed. She was still sure the sand was mean though!
“Sounds like fun! Maybe once all this sand is off me I can join you?” She was more then happy to invite herself along, after all this was Dufi and he never called her crazy or weird so she obviously liked him! He was her new best friend… he just didn’t know it.
“What if…” Quidytch thought for a moment. “You took some seaweed from the ocean, and wrapped it around your legs before you got out of the water… then, when you walk on the sand…” he paused, contemplating. “…the sand will cling to the seaweed instead of you, therefore keeping you happy, the sand happy, and when you are dry, you can return the sea weed back to the ocean so then it can be happy too!” Yes, Quidytch liked his logic. “I always enjoy the company.” He smiled, never minding the idea of hanging out with other lions. Now, to think of what to do!
Dufi thought about it for a minute or two before she nodded it could work! When he said she could come along as well she came up with an awesome idea.
“Okay… lets go swimming and then we can see if it works!” She thought it was a genius plan after all doesn’t everyone like swimming and they can see if it works on both of them! She could wash all this sand off at the same time! It was a win-win situation and she liked it!
Quidytch laughed. “Alright then!” Well, that was easy enough!
“I’ll race you to the water,” and with a shot, the stocky lion was off, loping as fast as he could to the water. He turned back to see where the female was, or if she even was racing him. Once he hit the water, he was relieved at the cool water soaking into the pads on the bottom of his feet. Sometimes the sand got a little /too/ hot to bear. Water was always a good thing for it! “Now to find some seaweed.” He dived under the salty water, feeling around for the greenish colored plant.
“Hey that’s no fair!” She called after him as she ran down to the water behind him. She jumped into the water with a large splash and laughed a little before she realized he had dived and so she followed him down. Seaweed.
She got a little distracted though and started swimming after a fish. It was only once it had gotten away that she remembered seaweed and went down to find some. She finally surfaced with a mouthful and looked around.
“Wha’ ‘ow?” She meant to say ‘what now?’ but it didn’t come out quite like that with all the seaweed taking up a large part of her mouth.

The red lion also arose from the depths, the salty seaweed hanging in his mouth. His golden eyes turned to gaze at her, thinking how exactly they should do this. He dropped the sea vegetation for just a moment, it floating next to him as he spoke. We go to the shallow end, just enough…” his plants started floating away, he quickly grabbed at them before continuing his talk. “and we will wrap around all paws…” he shifted in the water, inching towards the shore.
“Like this,” he motioned, grabbing a piece of seaweed to wrap around the female’s front paw. Once wrapped, the weed would stick to itself until it was dry. Perfect for keeping the sand off of fur!

Dufi let him wrap her paw, it felt a little strange but she accepted it. She then tried to do her other paw. It wasn't the best attempt at wrapping up a paw, it took a few attempts including sitting down before she could wrap her paw and then she had to do the back ones which meant she tried many weird and wonderful positions to just try and get those paws all wrapped up.
"Arghhh this is too hard! The sand better be grateful" She moaned as she finally managed to wrap up her back paws. Part of her was still moaning as she she smiled at him but that was at least all inside her head.
She walked out the water and the sand stuck to the seaweed, she also found her paws felt wetter then they did before. Part of her was doubting this would actually work but at least they were trying!
"How you doing?"

Quidytch couldn’t help but chuckle quietly about the difficulty of wrapping the seaweed around her paws and legs. “It may get easier the more you do it?” He offered. That was, of course, if it decided it wanted to work for them. Who knew, this could have really been a bad idea.
The lobster color lion wrapped the darkening weed around his hind leg first, before attempting to do his front legs. She was right, it was pretty hard to do that.
“Almost…there…got it!” he said, the seaweed sticking rather nicely to each other. Time would tell if it would stay there when they started moving.
And he began walking, right out onto the sand. It was pretty awkward, his toes squished with the water that remained in the vegetation. “…This feels weird,” he commented to her, wrinkling his nose.

Dufi wasn't enjoying this seaweed idea, though yes she may get rid of the sand but it did feel incredibly horrible underfoot and she also screwed her nose up after finally getting her paws wrapped up.
"Ewww this is horrible..."
She then ran, straight up the beach to the grass where she then pulled the remaining seaweed off, her paws also tasted funny. She had never really liked the taste of seaweed.
"Not doing that again... that felt icky." She moaned and continued to wash her paws, they felt so horrible!

The red lion watched her ran straight for the dry grasses, where the sand could not reach her. He frowned, walking quickly (not exactly wanting to run like the white lioness). She was quick to pull off the seaweed from her legs, but look! There was no sand stuck to the sopping wet fur!
...so it worked...but if you wanted to have even wetter fur than before that would be your cost.
"Sorry...that was a terrible idea," he told her, slowly unwrapping the salty seaweed from around his own legs. He never did think about the taste to of the weed....Minor setback!
"Why don't we just...go for a walk! We'll stay along this path, avoid the sand and stay in the sun until we are both dry?" he offered.

Dufi looked up at him and shook her head.
"It was a good idea... just erm... I dunno maybe needed more thinking? The sand will be happy at least!" She decided to point that out so he wouldn't feel bad but it really did taste icky and she wasn't liking it one bit.
"Okay that does sound like a good idea!" Though she kind of wanted to go swimming again. Maybe later they could walk and talk for now and at least it would give them time to dry and maybe eat then she could go swimming again!

When the red lion thought about it, it was either you wanted the taste of seaweed in your mouth, or the taste of sand. Either way had their dilemnas, whether it being the salt (which made you thirsty afterwards), or the tiny grains that got inbetween your teeth. Next time they could better construct a plan to avoid both.
"Perfect!" He did enjoy having her company, and this would be the first time seeing Dufi away from the water really. Maybe they could go hunting, relax a bit.
But for now, just a walk!
