Character Name: Aleksi Virtanen -- almost always introduces himself as 'Weaver'.
Type: Trainer.
Region: Hoenn.
Trainer Type: Trainer.

Gender: Male.
Height: 5'2"
Age: 24.
Hair Color: Ash blond, wavy, reaches the middle of his back when loose; usually tied up into a ponytail or braided, unless he's having some downtime.
Eye Color: Very pale blue-gray.
Skin Color: Pale.
Other: Weaver looks androgynous, occasionally crossdresses, and prefers female clothes aesthetically, partly because he finds it fun to mess with people's preconceived notions. He doesn't always crossdress, though, preferring generally practical, though never ugly, clothing while traveling -- jeans, a comfortable turtleneck, and sturdy hiking boots.
Nature: Sassy.

Personality:
Confident: Weaver seldom really seeks attention -- loud emotional displays and bragging aren't his style -- but when he needs to step up to the stage, he's more than comfortable with it. He's never afraid to crossdress in public, be flamboyant, or be the lone dissenter, and he'll do it while looking fabulous, too. He knows himself and his capabilities, and isn't afraid to be himself.

Creative: As perhaps suggested by his chosen name, Weaver is a talented clothier, and, given a bolt of cloth, a sewing machine, and some odds and ends, can usually produce a variety of lovely clothing. He does everything from designing to making clothes, and has filled many sketchbooks with designs and patterns for clothing. This extends, to a degree, to his battling, as he will often try to find creative ways to defeat an opponent, and does not stick to any one, predictable routine. However, like many artists, he is also rather sensitive about his creativity, and does not take criticism all that well.

Outwardly friendly: Weaver will say hello and strike up a conversation with anyone, and is always ready with a quick smile. If his friendliness sometimes seems over-the-top and shallow, that's because it is. Weaver covers up his ruthlessness and difficulty empathizing with people with a smiling facade. It's easiest for him to dismiss his moments of cruelty or viciousness if the people around him think he's too cheerful and too shallow to really be that way, though perceptive people can still see through him. He only really cares for and is genuinely friendly to a few people.

Pushy: What Weaver wants, Weaver gets. He's not very good at keeping out of other people's business, and usually keeps up to date on all the latest news and gossip, going as far as trying to coax more information from involved or close parties. With his true friends, and many people he only knows in passing, he can be quite pushy, trying to get them to do what he feels is best. This is usually relatively harmless (if annoying), like insisting that blue is really so much better than green for someone's skintone, but can become really pushy, like insisting that a boyfriend or girlfriend isn't the right one for them.

Ruthless: It's not something Weaver is very proud of, or even very comfortable with, so he takes great pains to hide it. Competition in high fashion could be cutthroat, so he learned early on not to trust or rely on other people, and to get rid of the competition. He was encouraged to think of competitors (other designers or corporations, or even peers within his family's company) as enemies, not people, and to cut them down as viciously as possible. This trait carries through most clearly in his battling; he seems to take a certain enjoyment in finding and exploiting his opponent's weaknesses, and crushing opposing teams as completely as possible.

Strengths: Weaver is generally good at talking with people and gaining their friendship, and does his best to always be up on the latest news and gossip.
Weaknesses: He has difficulty really empathizing with other people, something he really dislikes about himself.

History: The Virtanens are a wealthy family of clothiers, owning their own haute couture company and creating both custom-made garments for customers who can afford it, and ready-to-wear clothes for the masses. As the youngest of the Virtanen's four children, Aleksi grew up learning to design and make clothing, and took to it readily and naturally. However, he was thin-skinned, and his parents heaped constant criticism on him, as well as lessons that other people were untrustworthy, enemies, or otherwise below him. He grew up spoiled, distrustful of others, and ruthless -- a cutthroat fashion designer, in other words.

When he was out walking alone in the park, seeking inspiration, he met a young trainer, and the long, vicious argument they had was enough to leave him shaken and rethinking his choices. His whole philosophy, of thinking only of himself and a select few close to him, had been thrown back in his face, and he didn't know what to think about it.

Over a few months, the argument lingered in his mind, and he became almost obsessed with finding what it was that he was missing, or what was wrong with him. He couldn't do that as a clothier, so -- against the wishes of his parents -- he took a few belongings and left home to become a trainer, calling himself Weaver.

Major criticism in this design - you cannot have "friendly" and "cruel" as two descriptors of his personality. When you read the two side by side they contradict each other completely.

How can he have a "kind word and a smile" whenever he lacks empathy or lacks compassion for anyone who isn't close to him? I find it very difficult to see how someone so deliberately hostile (even if he can't help it) can make friends very easily. It might be a good idea to revise these two and see which one you would prefer to keep the most - once you've decided on that, you can look for a more suitable alternative.

An example would be that Friendly might turn in to "loyal" and encompass friendliness in this section under the guise that he's very friendly to his friends. While "cruel" may transform into "aloof" or "insular" indicating that he may be perceived as detached or separate from others. Another alternative is that "cruel" could turn in to "vindictive", "ruthless" or "spiteful", it really depends on exactly what you want for him but you do need to be careful of your definitions.

Second criticism - Because of the problems with the personality contradictions, his weakness doesn't make very much sense. You'll need to revise this once you've worked out a better definition for the two opposing qualities.

In addition to these criticisms, I would also advise you to be careful of when you place commas before your "too". Only place a comma before a 'too' if there's an ambiguity, if the "too" simply means "as well" then it doesn't require a comma. Annoying grammar niggle and not something people are necessarily aware of, but it can read in a peculiar way if skimmed through.

Having glanced over it, the history seems all right but, I'm more concerned about the personality conflicts.

Aahh, I was afraid I might not have been clear enough with his personality sweatdrop My main idea was that this character puts up a friendly front in order to conceal his negative qualities -- I don't know if you could really call it his true personality, but it's what most people who meet him would see. So he acts very friendly and calls plenty of people his friends, but those friendships are mostly shallow and not what he considers true friendships. It's a friendliness that's mostly (though not entirely) for show.

I'll try and clarify it a bit! The thing is that I want him to come across as rather overbearingly friendly towards everyone, but it's shallow and not meaningful.

Edit: Okay, changed the names and descriptions of some traits, and decided to move 'outwardly friendly' to the middle as a neutral trait, since it's not really a positive. Hopefully my intent will come across more clearly now~

Aha, then he's two-faced and superficial! Yeah, the "outwardly-friendly" is much more appropriate for his concept than what you had originally. Having read the concept, the fact you've changed up Cruel/Friendly to Ruthless/Outwardly-Friendly, makes all the difference.

He's a lot more fleshed out now and it reads much more cleanly as well. *Thumbs up*
