I could be wrong, but I don't think we have one of these threads yet.
For those of you who don't know, a word war is really very simple. A time limit is set (usually fifteen minutes, or half an hour), and for that period of time participants write. Constantly. Without breaks if possible. For example, if I say ":00 for fifteen minutes anybody?" and you're around, we would begin writing on the hour and finish fifteen minutes later. At the end of this period, writers share how many words they have written.
It's not really about the winning, but about getting you to write quickly and without distractions. But hey, a bit of friendly competition never hurt anybody, eh?

Edit: 796! I did really well, because I forced myself to not care how bad my typing was and just write. I'm going to go back and fix it now, though. It looks like I was drunk-typing for parts of it, with all these extra letters in the middle of words.
