Navidad pranced along on the ground, getting odd looks wherever he chose to go. Well.. wherever his father chose for him to go. He wasn't attached to a leash, but that collar of his he never took off jingled and jangled brightly as he made his way toward a nice patch of grass, and sat himself down, haunches planted flat on the green.

He looked up at his father, who was not really playing that much attention to anything around him. He had a sort of glassy-eyed 'huh' look to him... Which was kind of normal for him. Navi really didn't care, his dad was his dad, and that was that. But that didn't mean he didn't get frustrated with him. He wanted to fly! Stupid Vincent had told him strictly to stay on the ground... but... He wasn't really looking....

Carefully, he lifted first one hoof, then another, then the third, hovering lightly, until he got all four feet in the air, hovering about an inch up, JUST enough to still be considered 'on the ground' without being 'ON' the ground... Vincent couldn't yell at him for just this much, right?

Vincent was resting on the park bench, one eye watching his son while the other was focused on the book he was reading: "How To Raise Kids: The Easy Way". You were supposed to take kids to parks and let em run free, right? Right. That's how they socialized. Or was that dogs? He hadn't gotten to that yet. Damn, this parenting was hard.

Both eyes focused on Navidad, one eyebrow arching. "Navi, that's not on the ground." he said, his tone amused. Smart kid. At least he hadn't been stuck with a dumb one. "You have to touch the ground to be on it. Nice try, though." Eyes glanced from the boy to the playset. "Why don't you go play? You know, make friends and whatnot? You know, social stuff." He hadn't finished that chapter yet.

Loki was wandering the park, wondering just what it was that had drawn him here. His nemean lion, Kitty (his younger sister had named the beast, much to the fae's displeasure. A name like Killer or Beast would have fit much better), was currently using the boy's bed as a--well. Bed. So he had come to the park, hoping to find something or someone to distract him. He only vaguely wondered what havoc the nemean lion cub would cause.

And then he saw it. The thing that would distract him from the destruction Kitty would wreck upon his room. A deer! A reindeer? No, that wasn't right. It was more like...a storybook reindeer. Not the kind he had seen in the local zoo. He quickened his post, hoping to reach the deer before it could dash off.

...A kid? Seriously? Maybe it was some kind of Greek mythological creature? He had heard some of them had the heads of humans. Like the sphinx. Could it talk? He wondered... "Hey, I'm Loki."

Navi stuck his tongue out at his father, and dropped back to the ground disconsolately. Not that Vincent was a bad dad, but there were times he was rather unobservant of his own child. Now, for example. Navi couldn't exactly play with the equipment because he had a lack of something needed to play with it. Hands.

"Hooves, dad." he said, stomping one in example.

But then his boredom vanished as someone else came into the picture. Someone kind of odd, with red hair and... Okay, he didn't know that one. Even without asking his dad, he immediately took to the air, straight up even... and dived down as hard and fast as he could. Someone strange... DIVEBOMB TIME!

"Even with hooves, you're a smart boy. I'm sure you could find a way to play." Vincent pointed out, looking up from his book and closing it. "Besides, there are other kids to play with. You don't really need hands or playground equipment for that. I mean, look, here comes someone now." The man smiled as the other boy introduced himself. And then...

"Navidad, no!" Too late, the boy was already diving towards the poor, unsuspecting child. Brows furrowed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Navidad, dammit! What have I told you about doing that to people?!?"

The deer was attacking! Attacking! Maybe it really was like a sphinx, and had to solve a riddle? He didn't know. Loki had never experienced anything like this before. Generally he was good with animals. Generally animals, whether he liked it or not, followed him home. He had proof; he was the not-so-proud owner of ten chimeras. He side stepped the deer, looking vaguely frightened. "So his name's Navidad? Fitting." A reindeer named Navidad? How creative.

"Listen, I've got potato chips and oreos," he said, hoping to keep the strange deer with a humanoid face appeased. He had heard from his mother that deer liked salty things. "Do you like oreos?" he asked hopefully, pulling a small package of them from his pocket. It was supposed to be his snack before lunch--six oreos, a small bag of cheddar and sour cream potato chips, and a bottle of water. He was certainly willing to share--if it meant he wasn't killed by a strange, flying, human-headed deer.

Navi touched down lightly, and pranced proudly behind his father. Neither of the people present may have LIKED that particular display, but he was a good flier, and ... honestly, that was a LOT of fun. At the mention of Oreos, though... he perked up those ears, of his, and padded over toward the one offering, sitting squarely on his haunches, and offering his best grin.

"Yes please! Just the oreos, though - I don't like chips much. Dad will pay you back!"

He didn't even give Vincent a say in the matter.

"Navidad, apologize. Now." Vincent's tone was firm and unwavering, just as the book suggested, his arms cross and the book tossed on the bench beside him. This type of behavior was NOT going to fly with him...no pun intended. "You could have hurt him doing that, and look! You scared the poor boy!"

"And we have oreos at home. Just wait till we get there." That, and Vincent had no money on him; payday wasn't until this afternoon.

"He didn't scare me," Loki denied all fear almost at once. "I'm not scared. Oh, and the oreos are free..." He was amazed by the fact that Navidad could speak. Maybe he really was a different breed of sphinx. He opened his package of oreos and offered the deer-boy one, hand flat, as if he was feeding a horse. "Here," he beamed. He'd never met a talking deer before--maybe he could somehow convince his dad to let him keep it?

It was kind of cute, afterall. And Matthias had allowed him to keep Kitty. He suspected, though, that his father had only allowed it because it would have been hard to refuse such a dangerously large animal.

He wondered if he could somehow convince Matth that deer-sphinxes were just as dangerous. "Nice to meet you, Navidad," he added.

Navidad happily devoured the oreos out of Loki's hand, just like a trained pony. His deer-tail wiggled and waggled back and forth as he pranced around behind his dad, again, and pulled a bag of sugar-cubes he knew the man had, out of his back pocket. That done, he proceeded to flounce away with them, over toward a tree behind Loki, starting to try and open them. SO WHAT if his dad said he wasn't allowed any? It was perfectly alright to nom on them when he'd stolen them fair and square, right? Right.
So nomming on them he was. Or attempting to. Getting this bag open was proving to be more difficult than he thought.

Taking advantage of the effect he seemed to have on Loki, he looked up at him with his head tilted to the side, pawing insistently at the bag of sugar-cubes. Surely, the brave, strong teenager would help this poor little defenseless deerling [who had just dive-bombed him, but forget about that] open the nasty plastic bag around his faaaaaavorite treats....

Vincent relaxed a bit, and had even pulled his book back up to continue reading. And then, he felt an oh-so familiar tug. The book slammed shut and cast aside, narrowed eyes focused on the boy. "Navidad, no." the man said, using his best stern-parent voice. "You just had oreos; you don't need those." That, and those were Vincent's sugar cubes, but he wasn't dumb enough to add that in.

"Navidad, give them back. Now." A tan hand extended, waiting for the return of his sugar cubes.
