Yellow eyes glowed dimly as the mare marched on, her armor glinting vibrantly as the sun lowered closer to the mountain range. The late hour cast a red and orange hue across the land and skies, making it seem like the whole terrain was ablaze. But this detail went unnoticed to the dark mare, as she was more distracted by the lingering heat of it all. Even in its last moments, the sun was like a strong fever against her skin, and she was eager to find a cool resting place.

Flicking her tail against her flank, Nhekayla turned her horned head to the left to glance at a sparse patch of woodlands. The trees here were still fairly young, but they were large enough to provide coverage and privacy for a night's rest. Turning her massive hooves, she directed her path to the woods, not knowing what lay within but honestly.....just too tired to care. It had been a long day's travel and she was finally ready to call an end to it until tomorrow. With the clink and clank of her armor, the Elekk mare made her way carefully through the trees, ducking her neck to avoid the lower tree branches. Now, where to rest?

This was bad. Oloneric had not meant to wander, he rarely left the safety of the herds territory, but there had first been the most curious looking frog near the river, and so he had followed it for a short time as it hopped here and there. Then before he had a chance to see that he was wandering too far a large butterfly had floated past him. He had not seen this particular type of butterfly with it's vivid blue wings that almost seemed to shimmer in the sun, so he had to follow it to find out more. But now, as he lost sight of the insect amongst the trees he realized that he was no longer anywhere near the familiarity of home.

Oh dear, mother and grandfather and Aunt Mercy would be worried sick about him. Before he could figure out which way he had entered the trees he heard an odd clanking sound. What was that? Panic gripped him and Oloneric did the only thing he could think of at the time, quickly he crawled behind a low bush, hoping it's leaves would hide his presence and tried not to shake too badly out of fear.

With twigs and leaves scrapping across her armor, Nhekayla had to admit that wandering through this sort of terrain was not all that pleasant. But it seemed a better option than being out in the open, especially since she was a stranger in this foreign land. No, the mare would rather make herself familiar with the lands here, before coming face-to-face with a local soquili. After all, it'd be best for her to know the temperament and territories of this place before just carelessly wandering about!

Taking further steps into the foliage, the heavy mare stiffened when she heard a minute sound. Had she imagined that? Twisting an ear alertly, Kayla peered at her surroundings with a cautious squint. It could have just been a bird, or even a fallen pine cone. But it could just as easily have been another mount as well. Standing still for a few quiet breaths, the mare was able to pinpoint the source of the rattling. Furrowing her brows, she noticed the shaking of a young bush just a few feet away from her. Locking her legs defensively, she spoke in a firm voice at the empty air.

"Show yourself. I know you are there, it's no point to hide."

Oh no! Whatever it was had seen him, or at least knew that he was hiding. He knew running wouldn't get him anywhere as his short legs would only slow him down. To be perfectly honest Oloneric didn't want to show himself, but what else could he do? If he remained hidden the larger horse would just force him out of hiding and chances are that would only get him in more trouble. First he peered between the leaves, not showing himself just yet. From here he could see a large mare wearing what looked to be some type of armor. That didn't make him want to come out of hiding at all, those wearing armor looked extra scary to him.

Swallowing his fear Oloneric took a hesitant step and then another. Finally he revealed himself to the mare and looked up at her large frame. He had never seen a mare that big before. Why she could step on him with one of her hooves and that would be the end of it. Legs shook as he stood there, hoping she turned out to be nice. "D-don't hurt me." Probably not the best thing to say, asking not to be hurt by someone with ill intentions never got you anything but hurt.

Ears flitted forward and eyes furrowed as Kayla was revealed the sight before her. Just what was this...this....thing? It was so small, why if the mare had poor eyesight she would have assumed it was a large toad hiding among the bushes. Giving a loud snort and taking a step back, the battle mare took a moment of silence to evaluate the situation. If this was indeed a lil newborn before her, surely there was family around. Or at least some individual that took guardianship over the tiny creature?

"I shall not hurt you, no worries there." And to prove her point, the mare stayed still and away from the other. Judging by the high-pitched voice, this individual had to be a young one. And going by his stutter, she was either a frightful sight to him...or he was simply shy. Either way, Kayla tried her best to ease the scenario. "What is your name, if I can ask? They call me Kayla, and so can you if you want."

The fear was beginning to subside a bit, but Olo wasn't exactly ready to get any closer to the mare...at least not yet. At least she wasn't going to hurt him. He wouldn't have known what way to run if she did. "My name is Oloneric." His eyes swept over her armor once more, it was somewhat interesting looking and he tried hard to to stare, since staring was considered rude. "I like your name." He finally managed to peel his eyes away from her armor for a moment.

Slowly Olo too a hesitant step forward. She was huge and looked strong but her voice hadn't seemed scary and other than that somewhat intimidating armor she didn't seem all that bad. "Why...um...why do you have those on you?" The question could not be held back any longer. He just needed to know why she was wearing them. Was there a purpose to them or where they just because they were pretty?

The mare held her ground patiently and with a kind eye, even if the stillness was not favored with the weight settling on her back. Armor was hard to move in, true, but it was just as bothersome when standing still. Bending her neck to better view the tiny boy, Kayla blinked as he nearly whispered back his name. "Oloneric? I've never heard such a name before, but it's sound is pleasant." Her tail flicked against her armor as she shifted her weight, and she gave an easy nod to his reply. "Yes, it's quite easy to remember..."

Unlike her true name, that is. Well, maybe for the child at least.

With one ear flitting forward to his question, she nodded her chin towards her shoulder. "You mean my gear? All of these belong to my master, but were left on me for....play fights." No need for the youth to learn about the cold truth of wars, right? He'd have plenty of time growing up to learn of that part of life. And Nhekayla was not a mare who prided herself on the so-called 'glamor' of war and battle. "It's like a safety blanket, and keeps me from getting bumps and bruises."

Close enough to the truth, right?

He smiled lightly. She may have never heard a name like his before but he had also not heard a name such as hers either. Such was what happened when one lived in a herd that rarely had visitors and he rarely wandered off. That reminded him that he was indeed lost, and while the idea of that was still scary he somehow felt safe near this mare. He took a step forward and then another, if only to get a better look at her and because the closer he got the safer he felt. It looked like she could protect him from anything that should happen upon them, where as he was a nice little snack that couldn't do much but run and hope for the best.

"You play fight?" He asked in a curious tone. Very few adults he knew still played, and he and his brother did play fighting quite a bit. So it was a bit strange to hear from a mare of her size that she did such a thing as play fighting. "Sometimes...I get bruises when I play with my brother." Olo admitted a bit sheepishly. Boy it would be nice to have something like what Kayla had in order to keep from getting bruises. Olo didn't like getting hurt but it was a part of play and roughhousing that he really couldn't complain too much. "Are they heavy? They looked heavy." They also looked very pretty, but most important they looked heavy and he was certain that Kayla was very strong in order to be able to wear such things.
