Night has fallen upon the land and the young half harpy male was wandering a forest clearing. The moon was full and it provided him some light in the darkness. Rave paused in his steps and glanced around his surroundings. He noticed something odd about the grass it had tiny little lights blinking every now and then. Since he was the curious type he slowly stalked over towards the lights and took a closer looking by lowering his head.
His pupil-less blue eyes blinked as he watched a tiny little bug with wings crawl on a blade of grass. What a strange insect? He thought to himself as he watched it’s little butt glow and continue to watch as the firefly’s light flickered.
Rainbow Sky walked throught the grass, enjoying the night's coolness on her fur and scales. A tiny firefly whizzed past and Sky giggled and pranced after it, curious of the little spark of color and feeling playful.
Rave felt at ease; that is until he sensed another presence nearby. So he turned away from the sparkling bugs and glanced around. His pupil-less eyes caught glimpse of a mare and noticed something odd about her. With interest the male half harpy made his way slowly over towards her; once he got closer his eyes blinked. She had scales? This was something new to him and she was also was a bit rainbow like himself.
“Hello” he greeted her.
Sky spun around to face the speaker and blinked at the odd stallion. He had feathers.. and.. bird feet? How strange and somewhat beautiful. She smiled at his rainbow hued markings. "Hi. I wasn't interrupting you out here, was I?"
He simply shook his head no to her response and glanced over her a bit. Her hooves and horn was rather unusual as well. The dark male made sure to keep a bit of space between the two so he wouldn’t make her nervous. He assumed any soquili that came across him would find his appearance rather unsettling.
“I’m Rave and who might you be?”
"I'm Rainbow Sky, but you can call me Sky," the kirin answered. "I like your feathers. I've never seen a Soquili like you before." She lowered her head to peer curiously at his clawed feet. "I bet you can climb trees."
"Nice name." he complimented. As she was looking at his talons he blinked as he thought about it. He never did try to climb a tree before he simply thought his weight would be too heavy. He felt embarrassed but was an honest male "Actually I never tried to climb one.." he shifty gazed.
The mare raised her head, grinning at the stallion. "Bet you run fast though, right? I've never seen anyone like you before. " She walked a circle around him and came back to stand before him. "Where did you come from? The plains?"
He kept an eye on her as she circled him and he almost felt like prey for a second there. He kept rather quiet but was listening to her as she kept talking to him. His eyes blinked "I'm from a flock..well atleast I was. How about you?"
"I'm from the mountains," Sky told him, nodding. "I've never heard of a flock before. Is it like a herd?" She was very curious about this stallion.
"I see." he then thought about his words of the flock. He could never tell anyone of it's location. He wouldn't want anything bad to happen to anyone that dared enter it due to him. Looking away briefly and then back to her "It's like a herd..sorta."
"I guess you call it a flock because you have feathers? I think it's neat that you have them. They're very striking," Sky remarked, leaning over to look at his feathered mane.
He felt the mare moving closer to him and kept still. He gave a slight nod and blinked his eyes "uhh thank you" he took a few steps to the side.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," the kirin said, stepping back . "I just find you curious and interesting. I thought you might be a dream or spirit at first."
"It's okay." his tense lessened as they began to talk again. His head lowered a bit giving a sigh of relief. Looking back at her with a confusing look "A dream...a spirit?" he asked.
"Because I've never seen anyone like you before," she laughed. "I'm glad to see you are real, though." She watched a firefly buzz past. "A little glowy bug again. Did you see anything like them, either, before?"
"I won't lie it's the first for me to see a soquili with scales.." he commented on her appearance. He couldn't help but chuckle a bit to her saying he was real. The half harpy gazed to follow what she was looking at "Well it's the first time I have.." nods.
"All kirin have scales, though. You've never seen one of my kind before?" Sky asked, tearing her gaze from the arc of green light disappearing through the grass to look at the stallion again. "I thought my kind roamed enough that we were known quite a bit."
"Well where I come from it's not very common." he told her and noticed the bug vanished behind some foliage. The feathered half harpy gave a glance up at the moon and looked to her "I'm a harpy after all..you probably barely seen us."
"I'll admit that I've never heard of your kind before. Do you all have feathers and clawed feet? Are you all beautiful like you?" the mare asked innocently, tilting her head a bit as she gazed at Rave.
"Well the pure harpies do but some don't for the next generations." he told her and felt a wave of disgust thinking of the purebred females. Looking to her "My brother has front claws and back hooves."
"I think I like all four of your feet, though," Sky replied, grinning. "You wear pretty trinkets, too. I only have my rainbow beaded necklace."
"Your necklace is nice though. The color rainbow suits you." he told her while looking around the area. He was looking for a source of water since he was starting to get thirsty.
"Thank you." The mare watched him a moment. "Are you looking for something?"
"I'm a bit thirsty" he said and while scanning the area. He wasn't seeing anything but he wondered if she knew any water sources nearby.
"I passed a small watering hole on the way through here. I can show you where it is," Sky offered.
"Please do!" he asked her while waiting for her to lead him.
"This way," Sky laughed, leading the stallion to the small pond she'd seen earlier. "I tried some earlier. It's very good and the grass around it is sweet."
He followed her towards the small pond and quickly leaned downwards for some water. He lapped it up and raised his head givng a satisfied sigh "Sure is good."
Sky nodded, lowering her head to drink. When she had her fill, she looked at the stallion again. "If you aren't with your flock anymore, where will you stay?"
"For now I'm just wandering. I'm trying to find my grandfather." he told her simply while looking up at the sky. Looking down back at her "You don't know of Swift Wind do you?"
"I'm sorry, but, no, I don't know him. I wish I could help you, though," she answered. "Maybe I can travel with you so you won't be lonely."
"Travel with me?" he looked curious and thought of another going with him to find his grandfather. He simply blinked "Don't you have family?" he asked her.
"I had parents once, but I didn't stay with them and i have no herd. I mostly wander, like you do," Sky told him. "We can wander together."
"If it would please you then do so." he told her simply and was wondering what direction he would choose next
"It's settled then" Sky laughed. "I'm coming with you and we can learn more about each other on the way to... wherever we're going."
"Sure!" he said simply and then looked around thinking of which way to go. He then looked back at her "Which way do you think is best?"
"Hmm," the mare pondered, looking around. "Do you know much about your grandfather? Where he might be?"
“I don’t know where he might be..” he said with a sigh. His grandfather had wings and could get around pretty easily in the sky. His father once told him that his grandfather use to spend most of his days playing around with the mares.
"Wherever he is, we'll find him," Sky assured the stallion. "Together." She closed her eyes, turning her head from side to side. "I think we should try... that direction." She pointed in a random direction with her horn.
"Sounds good" he said simply was heading towards the direction. He was walking slowly so she wouldn't be left behind.
Sky trotted after the stallion, soon falling into step with him. "Why are you looking for your grandsire anyway?"
"He is the only family I got now." he told her and sighed a bit. He really did miss his family.
The mare walked beside him quietly for a moment, then looked up at him. "I could be your family since we'll be traveling together."
"Really?" he found it rather strange that someone would offer such a suggestion so early. However perhaps she was just the type to be so warming to such a stranger as he.
"Sure. That way no matter where we go or how far we travel, we won't ever be alone," Sky told him. At least it sounded good in her head. She moved her head, tossing her pink mane out of the way and smiled up at the stallion.
Rave found it amusing how close she was getting. The half harpy just gave a slight nod to her comment. Then looked over towards her "So why did you leave your family?" he was curious
Sky thought for a moment, a frown of concentration gracing her features briefly. "I wanted to see the world and all that was in it. My family's herd is small and I just wanted to see what else there was to life than just.. that."
"It makes sense." he nodded while trotting along the fields. He noticed up ahead was a rather dense forest. Turning to look at her "I suppose we both had the same idea. Though you can visit your family."
"It would be awkward to do so, though. Kirin are very wary of those that don't often follow traditions," Sky told him, falling into step with Rave. "I don't think it would be a good idea to visit them, really."
"I see that is rather unfortunate." he told her; he tried to show her some compassion. He knew what it was like to not follow tradition though for him; he would be punished.
Sky just laughed, bumping the stallion's shoulder with her own. "We got the better deal, though. Let them have their stuffy old traditions. We'll go and see the world and make our own traditions, right?"
He gave a slight nod; though he didn’t know what this journey will make of them? Will they be best of friends or even lovers? Who knows; though for now he was happy with just finding someone to tag along on his journey to find his grandfather.
