Ciúin had never honestly been the library before. He had only been reading the books that were at the house. But most of those books he'd read, or did not care to read because they were just manuals for products Moira, his mother, had around the house. So, he ventured to the wonderful land of the library. Moira said he'd like it, lots of different stories or things to read or learn about. He was hoping that maybe they had some sort of instruction manual on how to hear better. But that was dumb hope, he knew there was no real helping his condition. The best thing he could find would be a book that would tell him how to cope with his problem.
He sighed, walking through the automatic doors as they parted for him. A young woman at a desk glanced up at him and smiled briefly before looking back down at whatever she was doing. He wanted to ask where to go, but he didn't even really have a set topic he was looking for. He also didn't want to disturb the lady. For all he knew, she might have the temper of his sister. The thought made him shudder. He'd much rather just wander around and find something...
He plodded silently past the desk; his big, clawed feet made little noise on the carpeted floor. Like a lost puppy, he went from aisle to aisle, trying to find something that might work for him. Eventually, he had made his way around to children's section, a walled off area where kids could make a little noise while they read (if they wanted), and not disturb the other patrons. Though nothing here would help him, his curiosity made him peer inside. The walls were decorated with storybook characters of fame. The shelves, tables, and chairs were shrunk in size, to accommodate the children. Ciúin mused if he'd have ever fit in the chairs. He'd always been big for his age. Most people confused him for a 16-year old, or older now. Seeing no harm in taking a better look at the rather secluded area, he headed through the open doorway.

Devan was flipping through books in the child section. He was a fast reader and though he was sitting in one of the small chairs he was reading much thicker books. He was constantly in the library for two reasons. The first was to find a friend he'd met in the library. A long lost friend of his, Pippin.
Secondly, he loved to learn. It helped him to relax when his mother was away. He convinced his uncle that this was a place he'd like to play and it was granted to him. His brown jacket hid his tail and wings; his hat hid his strange ears.
He was halfway through an older book when the new boy walked in. At first Devan found himself staring from surprise. The kid certainly looked older but he was also much more fancy then any other child he'd seen. His hazel eyes were locked on the figure who was clearly one of his kind as he shifted in. He looked a bit lost. Turned around maybe. These small chairs weren't made for someone his age, Devan assumed.
The boy closed his book, approaching Ciuin carefully. He wasn't afraid but he certainly was a bit intimated. The other looked like he could be part wraith. While he didn't know any of them personally he had heard stories. He offered a small smile, "Hello... Do you need some help?" He asked quietly, unaware of the boy's hearing problem.

The bi-colored eyes of the Gluttony/Liberality boy locked on Devan as he approached him. Unblinking, Ciúin watched carefully as he spoke. "Oh, I am sorry if I disturbed your reading. I was just looking around as I have never been here before." The lure on Ciúin's head bobbed as he spoke. He was a little louder than would normally be allowed, but he was unaware of this fact. His golden wings fluttered slightly as his tail swayed back and forth.
"I do apologize, but perhaps you could show me around?" He didn't really know why he asked Devan, but seeing as the youngster was the first to approach him since he entered the place, he thought he was the best to ask. He knew that many were put off by his appearance, not only was he taller than average, but he had a crocodile-like grin, both due to his Gluttony DNA. He flashed the grin, not necessarily a sincere smile, but he was trying.

Devan could see the boy was studying him differently hen most people. "Oh, no! You didn't. Wow, you haven't?" The boy gave a friendly smile. "Don't worry! I know this place in and out but you gotta be real quiet." He held a finger and made a 'shhh'ing sound.
The boy reached out and took the taller child's hand and began to cart him around. "This is the kid's section. This is where all the kid books are but I've already read them." He pulled him along without a care in the world as he pulled him out of the room. "This is the um... words section where they keep how to talk in different ways. I like the one with pictures." He pulled a book off the shelf and opened it. "See! You make words with your hands!" He showed him the first page of the book with the alphabet. "Neat, huh?"

"Oh, sorry," Ciúin replied, hopefully in a quieter voice. It was really, honestly hard for him to tell. He kept a very close eye on Devan's lips, reading every word that was spoken. Since learning, he'd gotten much better at the rather necessary skill. It was far more handy, especially since most people didn't know sign language. He normally only used that around his mother, just to keep himself sharp. He didn't want to lose it, in case he needed it someday. Speaking of which...
Ciúin couldn't help but give an amused chuckle when Devan showed him the book. "Yes, it is very neat," he both spoke and signed, a small smile on his face. He put his hands down and continued quietly, "I am amazed you have read so many books! Do you know how to sign? Most people I have met, do not know how, so I must rely on reading their lips." A lightbulb went off in his head, "I am sorry, I did not introduce myself, my name is Ciúin Flynn." He held out his tanned hand. Most people were a little uneasy to shake his monstrous arm, so he learned to offer the more normal looking one.

Devan lit up like fireworks when the boy signed to him. He knew a little bit from what the book had showed him. His Uncle said it was a good skill to learn. "Reading is a lot of fun. Mom doesn't know how to do it so I gotta read all the stuff in the house for her. I'm learning it! Cause my Uncle said its a good idea and its fun to spell things with your hands!"
He made the motion of trying to spell his name although fumbled. He blinked in sudden confusion and looked up. "Lip read? How do you do that? Lips aren't books. Oh!" He said suddenly, "You can't hear?"
The boy took his hand and gave it a friendly shake, his tail slipping out of the jacket behind him. "Ciuin... That's a nice name."

"Devon?" Ciúin paused, "Sorry, Devan, right? I am sorry, if I misunderstood what you were signing." Ciúin rarely blamed anyone for anything, and this was no exception. He believed it was his own inability to communicate like everyone else that caused so many issues. "I like your name as well."
A solemn nod from Ciúin was his initial reply to Devan's query about his hearing. "Well, I can, when I am in water. It is a little complicated, I do not even know how or why it is like that." He shrugged, "I can tell what people are saying by watching their lips. Since I cannot hear properly, it helps immensely in social situations." The bi-colored eyes of the Gluttony/Liberality boy blinked for the first time since entering the library.
Ciúin's head tilted to the side slightly as the tail popped into view. As if in response, his own tail flopped lazily on its side. After shaking hands, a proper greeting, he lowered his arm to his side. "So, what kind of books are your favorites?"

"That's right! I musta confused the 'a' and the 'o'." He said studying at the pictures again. He flushed slightly and gave a bright smile to Ciuin. He liked his name too.
"Oh, well that's not so different. At least you can read lips! I bet your favorite thing to do is read." He excitedly took the other spawn's hand and shook it before starting to dart through books trying to find what he as looking for. "Well there's one about cooking and stuff. Then there's one about a guy and his dogs. It made me cry actually but in a good way." This concept seemed to confuse him for a minute.
At least he settled down next to Ciuin and his spade wrapped around the other spawn's tail. "I think my favorites are one that tell you stuff you didn't know. Stories are fun but you can learn stuff like from the signing book. Hey, do you think you could teach me how to sign? That way we could have our own secret language!"

A low chuckle escaped Ciúin as Devan asked to be taught Sign Language. "I do not think it would be our own secret language..." he paused, thinking about it for a moment, his mother was the only other person that her knew of that actually knew how to sign. "...but, very few people would actually know what we were communicating to one another." He smiled slightly, not minding Devan's tail curling around his, even though he was not used to such a thing happening. "I would be happy to teach you. You already seem to know the alphabet fairly well, you just need to practice it. What would you like to learn next?"

"So its KIND of secret! At least we'd be able to do it together." He opened up the book stopped to think. What did he want to know? Everything, but he could wait to learn that. One word at a time. "Oh, how about... 'Friends'? Because that's what we are." He looked up at the taller spawn with a smile. He clearly enjoyed his company already.

The edges of Ciúin's mouth pulled up into a large, toothy smile. Friends? He had so few. So, whenever someone said they were his friend, he couldn't help but smile broadly. His tail rejoiced as best as it could as well, by flopping and wagging like a fish out of water on the ground. "Friends is signed like this," he began, holding out both hands. He extended both index fingers and interlocked them, right over left, then left over right. "That is it. It is one of the simpler signs." His tone was more upbeat and cheerful than what it had been.

Devan giggled at the bright smile not frightened by his large teeth. His own tail wrapped tighter around the other spawn's in a response to the flipping. Tilting his head Devan studied the sign before mimicking Ciuin and grinning as he did so.
"Its wonderful. This is our sign, OK?' He informed him, moving closer to him. "Our special sign. I want to learn it all someday though. Would you be my teacher? We could spend a lot of time together and stuff!"

The unblinking, bi-colored eyes closed briefly as Ciúin's smile grew. He couldn't help but chuckle a little as Devan expressed his interest to learn. "I would be most honored to be your teacher," Ciúin signed as he spoke each word. His fat tail tried to curl awkwardly around his new friend's as he enjoyed the company. "We could start right now if you would like, but we might want to go somewhere where we can speak, just in case." At this, Ciúin looked up and around, seeing if there were any meeting rooms around... libraries have those, right?
After not seeing any in his initial sweep, he decided it best to ask the expert. Turning his attention back to Devan, Ciúin asks, "Are there any places here?"

"You're the best, Ciúin!" He was already unwrapping his needy tail as he stood up and tilted his head. He half looked like he was listening, half looked like he was searching. "Oh! I remember. There's a big room they use for like when people want to gather up and read to each other or just talk. This way!" He took off down an isle and toward a bigger section of the library, ducking into a room shortly after.
He jumped up and sat down on the table, waiting for his new friend to catch up.
