User ImageWhy did these things keep happening to him all of the sudden!? By some sort of miracle Corey had somehow managed to miss running into any actual youma himself up until now. Well other than the giant ice queen.. but he had booked it almost immediately, and had quickly convinced himself that it was nothing more then tired, stress induced daydreaming. Perhaps it was because he was almost always off at work that he'd been so luck.. or perhaps sheer dumb luck. But when it rained it certainly did pour.

First he'd ran into that crazy dude... and had 'transformed' into something equally bizzare. And now while was trying to carry his groceries home he was met with a large and grotesque monster thingy.. What mirror had he shattered or ladder had he clodded on under?

There was flailing as he fled down the streets, trying his very best not to trip on the long sash of the outfit he'd apparently transformed into out of instinct. When he finally stopped, having long ago lost the creature who was less than interested in him, he paused to catch his breath.. only finally noticing that his groceries had disappeared, replaced by the familiar metal bowl of water. "You have GOT to be kidding me" He didn't know WHERE he lost his food in the mess, but he certainly didn't have the money or desire to go back and rebuy it all.

Captain Painite was focused. She usually liked to spend her nights gathering energy for her quota, and just for fun and practice. She could always make something interesting, a game. Now, though, she had to bring her attention to something even more important than enjoying herself.

Revenge.

Usually, Painite was not much for the concept and at the same time promoted its use. She believed in returning favors paid to her by senshi and any other enemies, but she knew that the idea of revenge could be dangerous. More than that, it could be blinding. She did not want to lose herself in the idea of it, or the pursuit of it.

But if she just happened to be ready for the perfect opportunity for it, where was the harm in that?

Tonight she was searching, to see if she might find one of the many new enemies she loathed. Pages. Knights. They were a brand new nuisance, and she was more than keen on finding each one and making sure they knew that she, the Negaverse, and her friends were meant to be feared. No more getting punched in the head, or shields to the face, damn it.

She wanted to find any of the ones she had run into so far. Gehenna and Cimmerian, because she hated them, Annwn because he had used a cheap trick to run away from her. Camelot, though she had never met him, because he had hurt her friend.

But it seemed tonight she was fated to meet a different Page. She saw him running, but did not see or feel what might be chasing him. Hopping down from the roof of a nearby building, she landed almost directly behind him.

"Well hello there. What a lovely bow you have."

"Haaa!" He chortled in surprise, turning to search for the source of the voice. He was green.. and not in the same way she was. So he wasn't quite certain whether he should be afraid of her or not. Deep down maybe he felt the chaotic energy, but he wasn't sure what to make of it.

"Laundry mat heist" He offered her with a mild grin. "Never know what you're going to get"

His fingers carefully held his 'weapon' curled within his arms. But other than that yeah.. he was fairly and unfortunately oblivious to what he'd stepped into.

"Indeed? That's not very chivalrous of a knight like yourself," she said, shaking her head and clicking her tongue behind her teeth. She, of course, was well familiar with the way knights felt, and the energy around him was definitely a match.

So she immediately disliked him.

But she was a careful sort, when she wanted something. At the moment, she wanted to hurt him. She wanted to tease him and make sure he learned a very hard and very poignant lesson about the negaverse. But first she had to see just how new he was.

"So, I haven't seen you running around before. I certainly wouldn't have missed the get up. New to the area? Or the game?" Her eyes were bright and pretty, but dangerously misleading. Where there could be pools of gentle warmth and happy excitement there could also be what lurked there now, behind the interest and the zeal: a dark shadow silently taking stock of the situation. Learning every little bit of information she could, and just waiting to use it to her advantage.

A veiled threat.

She had her javelin in hand, and was stroking the horse, or rather hobby horse, hair that was near the end of one of the pointed sides. It was like watching a James Bond villain stroke a cat.

"There sure are a lot of you guys running around these days. Maybe one too many?"

The word knocked the grin off his face and the laugh out of his throat as soon as it sounded. Knight. He hadn't come out and said it because he didn't want to deal with explaining things he didn't really understand himself. But she already knew? Why? How?

His first experience as a page had hardly been a good one.. the man who sounded like a friend attempting to do.. well something bad to him. Would this be the same? Yet again he was being drawn in by her words.

"Yeah.. I haven't been around for very long" Well technically he himself had been.. but he doubted she was curious about that.

It was a war of his normal social tendencies against an internal warning of self preservation. And self preservation got a pretty big boost as her 'threat' sounded.

"Mmm.. I'm sure there is a good reason for us all" He fiddled with the bowl in his arms, his fingers dipping subconciously into the water contained inside. He could really use one of those other knights right now..

The Negaverse Captain watched the knight with a keen expression. She was interested in him, but maybe not in an entirely innocent way. Knights were not friends. Not people she wanted to get to know and certainly not a group she wanted to rising to join the senshi in their insufferable fighting.

Plus, so far she had run into ones that were mostly jerks.

She smiled at him, a pleasant look that was absolutely devious.

"Haven't been around very long. And not much longer, if you're not careful," she shook her head, hoping he was beginning to catch on that she was in no way his friend.

She leaned on her javelin, balancing on it and using it like some one might a lamp post when they were tired. Or trying to look cool. she managed to look a little more sinister than that, her bright, sea green eyes fixed on her opponent.

"I'm sure there is, but so far I haven't liked what I've seen. In fact, I think you guys are tripping up a rather good war you have no business in. Plus. I'm bored. Soooo."

She shifted her stance, holding her javelin like the weapon it was, grinning at him. It was time to do some Page scaring.

"I think you'd better start running, mate."

Yeah.. he was pretty darn sure she, much like Ilmenite, was not planning happy friend time with him.

Even with that smile..

"I.. don't know anything about a war. And I certainly don't intend on signing up for one" No way.. had Corey been born many years ago he would have been one of those yellow bellied draft dodgers.

He was feeling that similar sense of fear and cowardice as her javelin was suddenly being weilded a bit more seriously.

You'd better start running. To late. He didn't need a clearer invitation than that.

He tipped his bowl as he pivoted, for the most part soaking himself and leaving a trail of water that.. more than likely wouldn't be as slippery as he might hope it was. And run he did, attempting to hold his ridiculous sash and loose fabric folds up and out of the way of tripping him.

"Look. I don't really want any trouble. Please." He lamented as he scrambled.

Painite let out a laugh as the boy took off. Poor little thing, so scared. Not one of the braver knights out there, clearly, and she liked that.

Nothing was as invigorating as a good chase, right? Sure, setting traps and elaborate plots to catch her enemies was the highlight of her work, but a good old fashion chase? She always had room in her day for that.

It was interesting that his 'weapon' was a bowl of water. At least, she imagined that was why he was carrying it around. Did it have any magic to it? As she ran through the small puddles it left behind, she decided that no. It didn't.

Good.

The Negaverse Captain laughed jovially, almost sweetly, when he called to her as he tried to flee.

"That's okay, I'm offering it for free today! You wouldn't be so unchivalrous as to deny a lady's gift, would you?" she could play on the knight puns all day if she had to. She gave him a little bit of a head start before darting after him, lifting her Javelin as if to throw it.

"I wonder if that water would be any good to get out blood stains?" She laughed.

Oh god oh god oh god! He was screaming biligerantly inside his head, almost loud enough to drown out the woman behind him. Not quite loud enough though.. the tease about blood stains only flared up the silent laments or prayers.. or whatever they were.

Were the situation different he might have played along with her banter, but he was so overwhelmed it wasn't even possible. He made the mistake of glancing back.. of seeing the javelin positioned in a drawn back arm.

"I've never been accused of being chivalrous!" And as if to make the point further he drew his own arm back, winging the small metal bowl as hard as he could at his attacker in a last ditch effort.

Painite managed to throw the javelin, but she was having so much fun with it she put her whole body into the toss. That meant by the time she was pulling back up she had a metal bowl flying at her head.

"Oh bugger!" she yelped, but that was all she managed before it banged right into her head with a surprisingly sharp sound.

She fell backwards, hitting the ground hard on her bottom, dazed.

The Negaverse agent lifted a hand to her head, but it all seemed to be intact. Nothing scalped off, no giant welt. She looked at the bowl, hoping she had left a dent in it or something, just out of spite. Getting to her feet slowly, she looked to see what had become of her target.

She had been so busy playing, she might not have aimed as well as she needed to. But now she would do better than that: she would make sure to pay him back for hitting her in the head with a bowl.

"You're going to regret that, David Bow-y."

The bowl was hefted and Bimini had returned to trying to run for his damned life. He'd only gotten about three long strides however before he was suddenly jerked back. Stumbling forward, he barely kept himself from falling over as he stared back in terror, expecting to find her behind him.

What he saw however was the javelin that had barely missed it, and the fine tear in his long and flowing sash where the sharp weapon had made it's impact. The solid ground beneath had kept the weapon from actually sticking and pinning him to the ground, but the force had been enough to yank him back for that second, before the weapon clattered to the ground.

He didn't breath for a long moment, heart flying a mile a minute as he realized just how close he'd come to having a spear through his body. But then he realized that she was still on the ground, rubbing her head from his apparent hit. He barely even heard her joke as he began to flee again, running as quickly as he could.

He ducked into an alleyway and began to grab at door handles, sliding into the first one he found that opened, powering down. Maybe she wouldn't recognize him even if she found him? At the very least he wouldn't have to stop and explain if someone else saw him.

Too terrified to stay right inside the door he continued down the hallway of apartment doors behind him, coming to hide the stairway. Please make her go away. Please don't let her find me

Curses! Missed.

Still, she had to work with what she had been given. She had a scared young man cowering at her feet. Almost, once she caught back up to him, anyway. And she opted to take her time now, gathering herself from her embarrassing moment before and trying to stalk toward him like a proper, collected villain meant to be feared.

Her one goal was to teach him to fear the negaverse. To fear her. And maybe to pay for hitting him in the head. And stab him. So maybe that was more than one goal, but she imagined she could roll them all into the lattermost and accomplish everything succinctly.

And then of course he was gone.

She had been focusing so hard on making herself as scary as possible, she had lost track of him entirely. Not as great an impression as she was hoping to leave.

His energy had disappeared near this building, which seemed to be an apartment complex. She banished her weapon before peering into the building. Damn. Entering it, she began her search, periodically calling out.

"I will find you, Bow-y. Maybe not today, but I won't forget you. You'll see me again."

Eventually, though, she had to give up, and drifted to a window. She escaped through there, frustrated but not wanting to teleport. She only did that when she needed to, or when she wanted to make an impression. Next time, she would stain her javelin with his blood. For now, though, she would have to settle for having scared him.

If nothing else she had certainly succeeded in her mission to terrify him. As he remained cowered in the stairway he had to fight between the urge to run or stay, knowing if he ran too fast he'd certainly alert her either through the sound of sneakers slapping against the ground or simply the strangeness of some guy running for apparently no reason.

Instead he'd simply sneak softly and slowly when it sounded like footsteps were drawing too near.. he didn't even realize she was gone until he realized he hadn't heard any movement for a number of minutes.

Beneath his tshirt his body shivered. He was ever cautious when he finally dug up enough nerve to peek around the corner.

This trip home that night was quick and direct, her eyes cast towards every shadow and noise. The arcade owner had learned something important tonight.. something that went against what he had felt his whole life. Out here.. in the streets and the night.. Out here noone was his friend.
