I cried, too. sweatdrop
Our banquet was yesterday, and as per usual, everyone got their respective things for their letterman jacket. This year I got a star! Any-hoo, he started handing out awards and I was sitting with my friend Rees in the We're-not-gonna-get-any-awards-and-we're-cool-with-it club, and it got around to the "Most Improved" section. I got it my freshman year, for I am a cool kid, but not last year. I figured it's okay with me that I got the one I did, ya' know? So, as he was describing the winner of the Most Improved Junior, with "This person has steped up their game every year and gets most improved, in my opinion, every day." It seemed like a general description of a few people. Then~ I heard "This person really went beyond all my expectations during the Memorial Day Parade.." and I was like Oh God... and knew it was me. I had to play a certain part by myself as loud as I could during every cycle of the song, for one sax and the other trombone wasn't there, one didn't know the song at all, and one sax was broken. I HAD to, it wasn't me trying to shine. If I didn't play it, no one would hear it. ;n; I got the award, and I hugged him. He saw that I had a tear in my eye, for band is my life and I has honored to get an award from the most influential man in my life, and he cried a bit, too. It was a heartwarming moment that onl he and I know about, for we kept it covert.
Just thought I'd throw this in here, because I'm so happy right now and I wanted to share it with other's in band that might understand the stong emotions involved~

I completely understand. I have never gotten any award like that in Band, however, I got something just as special from my Band Director, Mrs. VK. Last February, two of VK's friends were brutally murdered in their home. The couple ran the music store in my town and their death was very shocking and upset my band. I had a scrapbook that was supposed to be used for my band trip to the Fiesta Bowl National Band Championships in Arizona, but I used it to make a scrapbook in memory of our band's beloved friends. I set the book on VK's desk when she was absent, but somehow she figured out that it was me who made it; I am preachy sure that her daughter told her it was me. The look on her face was priceless-utter gratitude, thanks, joy, and loss. She called is a "Labor of Love," and I will never forget that moment and neither will she.

after our last band review, usually some or all the seniors get up and talk about how band changed them or thanking people or something like that...and then we all cry afterwards...and our band director (a guy in i think his 30s) had "rocks in his eyes" as he put it smile
i cried so much this year, though! winter champs i made my guy friend who plays tympani cry because i've helped push the tympanis for 4 years haha
and then after the last band review
and then at band awards when we watched the end-of-the-year slideshow...
funny. i didn't cry at graduation...
but mr martin gets "rocks in his eyes" which is pretty funny smile

The assistant band director Mr.North cried to day in class, because my class had a surprise party for him and a giant card for him becasue he is leaving to go to a new school. He is Papa North. its a sad day, but he told us that whenever he has days that he doesnt wanna go to work he thinks of fourth block concert band and is better. Ima miss him.
