Jessamine glided through the forest noiselessly, with the ease of long practice, her crimson eyes intent on the forest ahead of her. She had emerged from her latest episode many miles away from the secluded den where her daughter was safely tucked away. The moon was almost full, so she had been gone much longer than usual this time and she was eager to return home now that she had returned to normal. Her long ivory hair whispered as it dragged through the leaves at her feet, her silky purple bows were disheveled and her coat was still stained with the blood of her most recent kill. So intent was she to return home, she hadn't had the time to indulge in her vanity and clean up a bit. Shehated being dirty, it made her skin crawl and she gritted her teeth with irritation and disgust, promising herself a wash as soon as possible, but first she had to return home and check on Belle.
---
Jessamine slid through the break in the trees and sidled over to the massive willow, Cleaver gliding down to greet her as usual and to bear away the tool of her madness. The owl said nothing, she hadn't spoken much to her mistress in the last couple months, interacting with her only when necessary. Following her orders to the letter but refusing to open herself to the easy companionship that had existed between the two prior to Belle's birth. She didn't have to say anything. Jessamine was well aware of her familiar's feelings where her daughter was concerned, the owl highly disapproved of her mistress' choice to hoard away her youngest child. She resented having to remain behind to act as a nanny while Jessamine went abroad to sate her gruesome hunger alone and without the protection Cleaver could provide. It was all in her eyes, but at least Cleaver had the good sense to keep her thoughts to herself for the time being. Jessamine's temper of late was volatile, she lapsed into her episodes more often than ever and awoke to scenes so bloody and horrendous that they sickened even her as she staggered away from the terrible evidence of her crimes. Where before she had often been able to predict when the bloodlust would hit a few hours in advance, this last time she had been hit with it so fast that she had had barely enough time to scramble out of the den and sprint off into the surrounding woods before it struck. No wonder she had wound up so far from home, her overwhelming need to get as far away from Belle as possible when the bloodlust struck had probably continued to drive her away even after she was unaware...

That was another thing, she had used to be able to remember the deeds she had committed while immersed in one of the episodes. The knowledge had been foggy but still dreadful, now the memories were completely blacked out. As though she had slipped out of existence for a few days. She had to admit that it was nice to be able to sleep without the dark memories plaguing her, but the sudden change worried her. What had caused it?

Jessamine tiptoed through the opening and had to stop for a moment as her eyes adjusted to the velvety darkness within the den. Her gaze swept the den and settled on the dainty little filly curled up in the far corner. She stopped and stared at her for a few moments, smiling a little as she watched the short tuft of white hair that flopped over her face move up and down with the filly's gentle breathing. Such a precious sight. This was why she needed Belle, it was the tiny piece of normalcy she had claimed for herself. Something happy to come home to no matter what hardships she had dealt with outside of their den. Her daughter's innocence and unconditional love soothed the sore spots on her heart. Jezabelle was hers alone, a compensation owed to her by the world as payment for her suffering. She would love her and keep her safe, and she would keep her for herself.

Always.
