Chloros looked over the pile of gold with disgust. Fake, all of it. Every coin, bracelet, necklace, even the small crown resting on top. Nothing was real, not even the small gems adorning a few of the pieces. Granted, they were good fakes, but fakes none the less. Chloros had found the "treasure" by following a tip. The tip had come from a Soquili begging for it's life, and had offered the tip in exchange for it. But the treasure wasn't real. Chloros made a mental note to pay a visit to that Soquili later on. But that was for another day.Chloros was absolutely ravenous. He had missed his breakfast by following that tip. It was time to find some food.
The kalona drew a blanket over the pile of gold. Though it was fake, the treasure still had some use. It would act as one of his decoy caves. Chloros trotted out of the cavern and onto a ledge overlooking the forest. He had many decoy hoards scattered across the mountain ranges. They masked the true location of his treasure hoard. It was a secret he would go to the grave with.
Chloros scanned the horizon, looking to see if he had been followed to the cave. He treated each decoy as his real hoard, so as to further protect his treasure. Once convinced that he was alone, Chloros spread his wings and soared down into the forest below. He landed quietly, as silent as hawk. Chloros did not want to alert any possibly prey in the forest of his presence. He was not in the mood for a long chase today. The kalona raised his head into the air and took a deep breath. He couldn't smell anyone nearby, but he knew that there were Soquili in the area. There always were.

Damia scuffed the ground with her hooves, angry at her sister again. Or whatever that fat pig could be called her sister. She didn't know how her mother and father had bred that thing. So she had headed off again, in search of finding something to do. She always was made into the bad guy. Even father had yelled at her this time, defending the Cow from her. Stupid mare and her silly scarves. She was such a pansy, and no one would notice that. Well, she'd show them who was the better daughter of the two.

She made her way easily through the trees, weaving around the trunks as she silently fumed. As she continued on, she scented the air, and found herself a stream with some clover and sweet grass growing nearby. Mumbling to herself, she moved over to the stream, and took a drink of the crisp water, before working on the grass and clover.

Chloros quietly moved between the trees, ruby eyes darting about for the sudden movements of prey. A deer would do nicely for today's meal. They were weak creatures; adults were less intelligent than the youngest of foals. But would that small a meal be enough for him? Bucks, though bigger and more meatly, were busy running about and fighting with males of their own kind. Chloros was not in the mood to fight off two angry bucks at the same time. Small as they were, their horns were sharp.
Does were more docile and made for "fast food," so to speak, but they could hardly be considered a meal. A heavy snack, but not something substantial enough to sweeten his sour mood. No, Chloros needed something more...rich. Something spiced with the taste of adrenaline and fear. Something that would be worth the effort to kill.
The Kalona stopped, turning his face into the wind. He took a deep smell, drinking in the multitude of aromas of the forest. A barrage of pollen assaulted his nose, making him sneeze. A rabbit hiding under the bushes near his feet shot off at the sound, startled. Chloros paid it no mind. He was after bigger prey. He focused on one scent, definitely another Soquili. It was laced with frustration. Chloros fancied the thought that it might not be alone, but another sniff debunked his theory. It, the Soquili, was alone.
Switching into prey mode, Kalona followed his nose in the direction of the smell. In the back of his mind, he noticed that the trees were beginning to thin out. The grass was growing taller, and the sound of bubbling brook ran faintly past his ears. Stopping just before what looked like some kind of meadow, Chloros squinted his eyes and nearly let out a snarl of frustration. He had a thing about not killing mares. They were the easiest prey for the mind games he liked to play. But something about this mare told him that she was not the type to be manipulated.
Still, a little fun would cheer him up just as much as a good meal would. Chloros would play the mare for a little while. And if she wasn't the type to be pulled into his elaborate tricks, she would do quite nicely as a meal. He shook out his mane in anticipation and stepped out into the clearing. "You know," he purred, giving his wings a quick stretch. "It's dangerous for such a pretty mare like you to be out in the woods alone."

Damia continued pulling up the clover in angry bites, uprooting some of the delicate yet hardy plant. It would regrow. She was not worried about that. She had lifted her head for a moment when she had thought she'd heard a sneeze, but when she had found no one, she had continued grazing. However, as she heard a voice, she raised her head, startled, and turned to face the speaker.

He was downwind of her, which is why she did not scent him. He was an interesting creature, with a light almost turquoise body, and darker blue-purple designs. But what really got her were the wings and the tail. A spade-tipped reptilian tail lay where a hair-tail should be, and the wings were membrane, with feathers just along the arm of the wing. With two horns on his head. She ran all of this information through her mind and quickly came up with an answer; Kalona. Her father had told her stories about them, how they were something to be careful of, since most of them seemed to have a nasty temper. However, besides their looks, he was not that frightening. And she rather dismissed him.

However, since he had spoken, and she did not know who he was, it would be rude not to reply. Her head came up proudly, and she gave him a small nod. Looks can be deceiving. It's not so dangerous for me. I'm different from most of those that decide to walk alone. She was so proud that she had been walking around so far, and hadn't gotten into any trouble that she couldn't get out of. Unlike Mera. Her grin widened at the thought. That should definatly give her points.

Chloros painted an amused look on his face at her response, but inside he was cold calculating. He looked the mare over with a growing feeling of wariness. At first glance, the mare seemed almost dainty. But a closer look revealed a very different picture. She was stockier than most mares he had come across, but did not seem to be of the heavier draft breeds the Kalona had heard of. This meant she was a fighter or a runner, and a well practiced one at that. The Kalona frowned. She was haughty too. Obviously she felt as if the he could her no harm, or she would not be so daring in his presence. This led Chloros back to the fighter notion. Proud, brave, and strong. Definitely not his type.
But Chloros did not dismay. He already had enough plaything to occupy his spare time. Though she was quite striking, he had no qualms about killing her. Her clothes, on the other hand, were a different matter. From the distance he was at, Chloros couldn't tell what the material was. He hoped it was silk. Silk was soft and smooth, and he did love using it to soften his bedding. He would try not to soil it too much, but he could not restrain himself that much.
For a moment, Chloros debated on whether to attack immediately or to continue his game a little longer. His desire for food was strong, but the logical part of him won over. The mare was still too much on her guard. If she was truly a fighter, Chloros would need the advantage of surprise. If not, well...it wouldn't hurt to play a little more.
"No? Not the damsel in distress type, are you?" He bent down and casually ripped up some of the abundant clover. Its sickly sweet taste repulsed him. "You do seem to be the...fighter type. Am I correct?" He forced himself to swallow the disgusting plant. Anything to get his prey vulnerable.
