It had to be well into the night. Not into the past day, but dark enough to see the moon shining brightly in the pitch black sky. The king and queen were lying in their den, both seemingly to be sleeping peacefully. However, this could be a great understatement as the lioness groaned in pain. What was that for?

...Certainly the kids wouldn't be coming now, right? It didn't feel right. Hissing slightly as another kick sent the charcoal queen into a fit of nips and bites to her stomach, she began walking about the den. Maybe they just needed to be rocked to sleep, and walking was what only slaked their needs?

She could only pray.

Asi rolled over in his sleep, not really aware of what was happening to his mate. Her stirring had just caused him to stir a little himself, tail flicking as he grunted something out into the crisp, silent air.

Babies leave your mother alone, Asi wants his sleep.

Mm why didn't the walking work?! It usually always did when they were restless ;__;. Ari groaned again as the cubs kicked her side. Her blue eyes glanced towards the sleeping mate, clueless wo what was going on just in the waking world. "..asi.." She whimpered, whispering towards the mocha lion.

Finally, the kciks seemed to stop, allowing the lioness to lay back down again. But this only seemed to upset the small cubbins, as the resided in their kicks onces more. But these weren't really kicks; oh no, they were the same contractions she had felt during her first litter. She cried out weekly, for it was a bit late at night and her energy was used up for the most part.

Why now, was all she could ask.

Asi groaned again, eyes cracking open as he mumbled more. Something probably along the lines of 'lemme sleep, ar'igh?' But then his mind realed in her wimpers, and he sat bolt upright. "Gah now?" He suddenly said, his voice rather louder than before and a bit of a surprise on such a calm night.

Unless.. she was hurting from something else? "Wha' be wrong, do i' be the chilluns?" He whined out, on his feet and hovering over her. He hated playing its about time for cubs!

Aww but playing its about time for cubs! is a fun game to play! (Note my sarcasism in there, please.) Her breathing hitched slightly as if she could hit the adult lion. She wouldn't cast out at him, ohno not now. She'd wait until after the cubs were out, and she had her energy back.

The charcoal lioness nodded, closing her eyes as a strong contraction hit once more. Soon, they would be getting more and more powerful, and by then, Ari didn't know if she'd have enough strength to bear each one into this world.

Asi frowned and nuzzled into her lightly, his own heart and breathing increased. He mumbled words of comfort to her, eyes flicking toward the den entrance. He took a deep breath, this was the hardest and scariest part about cubs, he thought. Everything could go wrong, some things could go wrong. Nothing could go wrong. And that went for both his mate or the children she was bearing. It was a scary thought.

And that time soon came. The lioness began to pant, focusing bits of her energy to push the small cubs out. With each passing minute, a long agonizing groan escapes Ari's maw, her eyes closed tightly as to concentrate her pain elsewhere. She barely registered the nuzzle she was receiving from Asi just then.

With the last bit of energy she put aside for this one cub, she released, sending the blood coated creature onto the floor. Quickly, she hurried onto her forepaws (her back ones remaining in a lying posistion) and cleaned off the messy afterbirth and all that fun stuff away from the newborn.

She knew she had just only a few seconds to finish up before the contractions started again, but once she was finished, a broad smile crossed her lips. A little boy <3

Asi looked away a moment, he still though birthing... well, the whole process of birthing, was a little gross. As he looked back and moved around her a bit to get a better look he gasped a little. The cub was such a light color! He was the cream color of Ari's back, mostly. It was almost awkward to look at. Lighter than Tamu even! And another baby boy. They seemed good at making boys, eh? Though that would be proved wrong in another few moments.

"Yeh be doin' a won'erful job, love." He cooed out, still moving from paw to paw in a worried way.

Clearing the airways, Ari nudged the small wheat male to her lower abdomen so he can get his first meal. The small cub squealed quietly, but quieted down once he started to suckle.

Wincing as the small teeth scraped against her skin, she sighed as the contractions started up again. One down, three more to go.

The process for this cub was the same, except it went by a little faster. Once out, Ari repeated the process of cleaning and clearing airways, smiling softly as the markings were like hers (Dark charcoal with hints of Asi in her). Maybe she'd even have those bright blue eyes! Let's just hope this one isn't like Denahi, right?

Nudging the small female towards her brother, Ari whispered, "A little girl," before resting her head. More cubs were coming.

And a little girl! She looked even more like her mother than Denahi, well from what he could tell. The same thought hit him that had hit his mate though. Would she be like her older brother?

He took another deep breath, he wondered how many more there would be. The cave was starting to fill with little squeals from just the two of them.

Ari breathing was a bit awkward. Being late into the night, she wasn't fully prepared when the cubs decided to come now! They could be like her first litter and come in the morning. Afternoon even!

Groaning, something felt a bit different with this cub. It was bigger than the other two, causing the lioness to whimper as it continued to struggle to stay in the warmth it had been housed in for months.

With the last bit of energy she had for the night, Ari pushed, sending not only one, but two small females onto the floor. Twins! One each bearing the same markings as the other, only with different colors.

Weakened, the lioness moved slowly to clean her last to babies, nuzzling them and licking them until she collasped from exhaustion. mmm She could use a good night's sleep now.

Asi curled himself carefully near to Ari and the cubs, licking at her face and then positioning so he could give the little ones warmth while watching the entrance, he'd stay up all night if he had to. Names could come later, couldn't they.

"Yeh ne'er stop amazin' me, Ari." He whispered to her.

Now THIS was scary, from only moments ago being safe and warm alongside her siblings into this world of strange noises, feelings and sounds. She opened her eyes on it all, only to meet with darkness. But it was all she knew and she didn't question it. Still, this outside world wasn't /too/ bad once you gave it a chance. There was always the two warm presences alongside her to make her feel safe and secure. Add to that the sounds and smells of her siblings, her twin in particular, also safe and warm, and she could deal with it.
Wriggling blindly, she made her way towards her mother's warm underfur, unaware that for the only time in her life, she would be equal in senses with her brother and sisters.

Her frail body squirmed like a slippery snail as she tumbled onto the floor, a floor of newfound hardness; or at least compared to the warm, motherly haven she had come out of. Her senses were still scarce, and her eyes were still scrunched tightly closed, but most of all, the world seemed to hold an odd lack of sound.

And yet, the tiny newborn could feel family all around her, particularly that of her twin sister, and her mother, whom she then proceeded to snuggling closer to. This was a scary, scary place, but perhaps, with all this closeness she was currently feeling, she'd be able to pull through.

It was much different in this outside world, it was colder and everything felt weighted down. Though he'd only grasped a vague sense of the difference, mostly all that mattered was this tasty substance he was trying to get at. He could feel a body next to him, but he seemed to be on the outside. Not that he had any idea what the outside was.

He squirmed and mewled out, trying to push himself more into the warmth. Everything felt so exciting right now, but he did not understand what had happened.
