Things had gone back to normal once the kids had grown up and gone to live their own lives. At first it had been a little unusual to not have them around constantly but in the end he'd grown accustomed to it just as he had gotten used to them being around in the first place. Then when they came to visit and left again their was even more to get used to. All these things were just one more thing in the world to examine. However, after discovering what he could about the physical and emotional oddities that came from these things Lamb found that he needed to find something new to learn about now.
Today he had found himself at the end of a river with his nose pressed against a rock smelling it. It smelt much like every other rock. He licked it. It was saltier than most rocks. Lamb's tail swayed behind him steadily as a metronome would as he continued his investigations of the rock. While it was not the most fascinating thing in the world it was still good to learn about in anyway he could. Information was very valuable after all, no matter what it was about.

Aqua grinned as she swam through the seaweed on the bottom of the river floor, thinking no one would possibly see her, she blended in so very well, her hair swaying like the seaweed, her green complexion masked by the coloration of the water. She propeled herself gently though the cool water, loving how nice it felt passing over her slick skin.
Yellow eyes peered up when a dark shadow covered her light, curiously she rose slowly to the surface and noted a dark colored land dweller. Curiously she swam closer to the other soquili, and even closer to the surface until she was just below it, watching as the stallion....licked a rock? Now why on earth would he do that? She popped her head out of the water abruptly and tilted it to the side. "Does it taste good?"

Lamb's tail stopped twitching the instant her heard a splash and a voice almost simultaneously. Something was in the river. Turning his head sharply he sought out whatever creature was calling to him. When he finally spotted it he shook his head, "No." He said. The simple response was the only answer to the question the little aquatic critter would receive. Figuring that would satisfy her curiosity he decided it was time to satisfy his.
With swift and purposeful movements he approached the teal colored miniature horse and stuck his nose right next to her. His tail began to sway back and forth again as, like a dog, he sniffed her to record what the creature smelled like, whatever it may be, so that it may be applied to others of it's kind. It smelled like wet soquili and faintly of fish and pond moss that live in the water. Fascinating.

Aqua watched the large land soquili in silence, almost going cross-eyed when he put his nose close. She blinked and became puzzled at his actions, did she smell funny? She huffed and backed away a little from the inquiring soquili. She eyed him suspiciously, then grinned. "My name is Aqua." She swam toward him again, her tail propelling her. "What's yours?" And perhaps he sniffed her in greeting? Well she supposed it wasn't too odd...not as odd as licking a rock any way...

All in all the stallion was quite used to others moving away from him when he began investigating. He had been told that it was because he was being invasive, weird and just plain creepy by others in the past. Yet, despite being told all of that he still failed to see why he was being any of those things and carried on as usual. This was no different.
As she swam away he stretched his neck in an attempt to see what she looked like under the water. He couldn't really tell. "Aqua?" He let himself relax as she came back. Perhaps sticking his head in the water would help him. But he had learned long ago that he couldn't actually breathe in water nor could he hold his breath long enough to get a good look. "Lamb." He nodded his head to indicate himself before pacing to one side and then the other examining from different angles.
Today he found himself wishing the impossible. Today he would have liked to be a fish.

Aqua smiled and watched as he paced. Was there something about her that confused him? She flicked her tail which brought her even closer. Perhaps if she got out for a little while and let him investigate her? He did seem very curious of her, and now that she recalled, she could understand why. Her kind weren't seen much and was sure she had only encountered a few large soquili and couldn't recall who they were.
Stepping up onto the shore she shook slightly and flicked her tail and stood before Lamb on the ground. The grass felt odd under her hooves and after being in the water for hours at a time she felt rather heavy, already she was feeling more dry than she was comfortable with but knew it wouldn't hurt to be out of the water for a little while. "Do you like to swim?" She grinned and tossed a wet lock of hair from her face that landed on her neck with a splat.

Lamb's ears went straight up, alert, as the miniature mare exited the water. This was wonderful! She could move easily in the water and still come up on land. Immediately he moved in closer to get a better look without stopping to answer her question. She had a tail and spines like a fish but didn't appear to possess gills or anything of that nature. It was clear that she would have to breathe air as he did. She also had four legs, with hooves. She reminded Lamb very much of a small kelpi.
Was she a foal? There was really only one way to know the answer to that one. "Child?" He inquired staring hard at her as though the answers would appear swimming in the air around her. It then occurred to him that he hadn't yet answered. He supposed that if he was going to ask a question he should answer one. "Dislike." That was a good enough answer, right?

Aqua was so confused by his short words she wasn't quite understanding what he meant. Did he dislike children? She wasn't sure why he would have said it, there were no children around and she hadn't said anything about them. Then it dawned on her that he had been inquiring if she was a child, it must be her small size. Finally after working it out in her head she shook it. "Oh! No. I'm not a child. I mean...I'm not very old, but no, not a child." She pondered his spoken word; "dislike" and she got it too. Though now a little disappointed. "You do not like to swim?" She thought this was sad, swimming was wonderful, though to her.

Ever so slowly Lamb's head tilted to one side as he continued to stare at the small creature. She wasn't a child? His tail coiled around a hind leg, a sure sign of confusion. She did not sound like a child but she looked more like one than his own children had when they first emerged. Except her coat was not fuzzy like a foals.
He chose not to comment on it until he had figured more out and uncoiled his tail preparing to resume the conversation. Conversation and words were important to most creatures after all. "Dislike." He repeated giving his head a shake. He had never liked swimming, it was not in his nature. The only time he willingly entered the water was to bathe or cool himself on a hot day. "You like." It was a fact to him. She had emerged from the water and looked rather fish like. To Lamb it didn't get any more obvious that it was in her nature to spend a lot of time in the water.

Aqua nodded in understanding. "Swimming is nice, though maybe not for you. I understand." She grinned up at the larger soquili and tossed some of her mane from her eyes, it successfully deciding clinging wetly to her cheek to be the better option. She blinked her yellow eyes and swam a little closer. "What do you like then? There must be something." She swam in a small circle, enjoying the water moving about her as she waited for his reply, though she anticipated a short one.
