I drew a picture of my oc Shane, somehow I've managed to never color him before..
Im not sure how I would do the eyes and glasses. Im also pretty inexperienced with coloring over the shading. One last thing that will be an issue for me. I dont think I can make a dark blue, like cop uniform dark blue. Im using colored pencils, any tricks?

I will probably use an old drawing or two to test out colors for him too.

Feel free to critique the anatomy and all that. I had trouble trying to figure out the clothing folds sweatdrop
Here is is.

Also, if I were to add a background, fairly simple, what would look good?

what kind of colouring pencils do you have? : 3 do you have a dark blue? if not you could maybe try merging some colours to get what you want, maybe a blue with a little dark purple and a little bit of black over it could work. but dark or royal blue would be the best

As for the anatomy the posing looks a little unconfortable : 3 his uper torso is turned a little to much, I think if you broght his arm (the one holding the sword) down a bit to make his shoulders align with his torso, and maybe flip his head sides this could help the posture look better : )

oh yes and for the eyes and glasses I would make them a colour that stands out from the skin and uniform colours (example if you want to make his uniform blue and his skin white, maybe use a warm coleur like red to contrast with the rest ) : D good luck vanna!

Lets see.. Roseart, but I have some other brand(s)
I have navy blue, dark blue, and one other darker blue color, I think it was royal blue. None of those are quite what Im looking for though ^^'

All right, will keep that in mind for the next time I do this kinda pose.

You mean like a red tint to the glasses?
His eyes are suppose to be blue (no where near as dark as his uniform though.)

then yea some red in his glasses would help attract some attention to his eyes : D

If you're really intent on coloring an image, it's best to erase all of the extra shading first and define the lines of the image before you attempt to color first. Otherwise the graphite tends to muddy up the colors you're attempting to use,a nd you can end up with smudges of gray throughout your piece. it looks like you were able to scan the image. If you're worried about messing up print out a few copies, and practice coloring over those. Also look up colored pencil tutorials, and shading/color theory tutorials on deviantart. Those will help you start to grasp the concept of shading with color.
