With a characteristic squeak, the doors of Bracken's Delicatessen and Cafe eased open to allow the rather happy family of four to scoot inside. It was hot out, so the door was kept closed this time of year to keep the A/C running efficiently. It shut behind them with a tinkle of the door's bells, a whoosh of warm air.
Matt, carrying Leander, chose a seat at the window, and sat Leander down in it, stroking his hair for a moment, before leaving Kenzie there with the boys, and going to the counter to order two coffees, four slices of cake, and four bowls of ice-cream. What? Dads can have a sweet-tooth too.
Once he'd ordered, he knew from experience it would be a while, so he went to sit back down with his family, yawning a bit as he stared out the window.
"It's been quite a week, hasn't it?" he asked Kenzie, looking back at him.

Logan was seated next to his twin, which was fine with him as he wrapped his arms around his brother's arm and one tentacle, not even thinking anything of it as he cuddled in to him. He was absorbing the AC because Logan overheated easily and was sweating slightly. However, once he was feeling better, he pulled away from Leander and motioned for him to go under the table. Either dad was on either side of them, so under was a good option! He wanted to go play in the play place they had for kids here.
Under the table he went before his dad could react and into the play place, grinning. His daddy mentioned it! So he could play!
Kenzie figured this would happen so he chuckled and let them go, keeping an eye on the boys as they ran. He always kept a watchful eye on them, even if they didn't know it. He was good like that. Looking to Matt, Kenzie grinned and nodded.
"It's been a good week, I think. I didn't make what I usually do, but it's a slow part of the year."

"That it is." Matt said, watching as well as the boys skittered away.
"But a fruitful week, don't you think? Our kids know the alphabet song now, at least. That's a start. If not for Logan breaking the mug this morning, I'd say it's been pretty smooth sailing. Oh, and the urn Leander broke. But as you said before... they're boys. What can you do?
The coffee always came before the food here, and when it did come he nursed the cup pleasurably. He very rarely let himself have coffee because of his heart, and what caffeine did to it.
"So... I was thinking the beach, like I said earlier... We could rent or buy an RV... I think we have room for one in the drive if you actually wanted to shell out for one..."
Meanwhile, Leander followed his brother to the playground, getting up on the playhouse-area, and looking down the slide. He was getting an idea about what to do with that slide, and if he could convince his brother to try something. First, he demonstrated what he had in mind, by sliding down the slide while 'flapping' his tentacles. Of course THAT wouldn't work, but Logan's wings?

He nursed his own cup and nodded a little. Coffee was sacred in the house and the boys knew when they had mugs in their hands to behave or else their daddies would be hurt and sick chasing them down. So he wasn't too worried about the boys getting into too much trouble. Still, he almost didn't want to drink it because he didn't know is Matt was going to be OK if something did happen and the boys acted up.
"RVs are tacky, Matt. Why don't we just rent a beach cabin for a couple days? The ones on stilts so we're in the water at high tide? I could do some fishing."
Kenzie LOVED fish. When the boys got older he was going to get these huge fish tanks and fill them with fish and eels and all sorts of sea creatures and fresh water ones. "We could maybe by a boat though. Something big enough for the four of us for when we do bring the boys out on it..."
Logan watched his brother from a bouncing pony ride and stared at him in wonder. He flapped his wings as he stilled the ride and bit down on his lip. Leander wanted him to try flying with his wings? Well daddy taught him birds flew with their wings, so maybe he could too!
Moving to climb up next to his brother, he flapped his wings a couple of times hard and winced. OK, not that hard. So he tried again and laughed a bit. He could glide, he knew. He fell from the couch once, slowly, 'cause he had his wings open and he didn't get hurt. The back of the couch, even!
".....Wan' me to fwy?" He had a problem with speech still.

The heat of the day was thick enough to permeate even the most lace. Mimosa narrowed her eyes as she peered into the sky and saw it ripple with the waves rising off of everything the sun could gaze upon. Even the white dress seemed to soak it up and that was enough to drive even the doziest sloth to move a bit quicker in pursuit of relief.
The deli was a fortunate find in that regard. It wasn't that far from the library she'd been visiting, and as she pushed the door open a refreshing wall of coolness washed over her. Gladly she stepped in and let the door close behind her, snuffing out the sweltering bustle of the sidewalk for the peace and tranquility of her respite.
Not wanting to seem ungrateful for the relief, the girl reasoned she should at least purchase something. The dryness in her throat helped that reasoning to, and she made her way to the counter to place an order. It didn't take long and she soon made her way to a table with a considerably large parfait. The delicate feathers on her tail twitched in eagerness as she set down what she'd borrowed from the library and her catalyst rock to take up a delicate silver spoon and break through the elegant peaks of whipped cream.
A smile spread over her pale green features as her long tongue came to meet the treat and hastily dispose of the little bit she'd taken. Absolutely nothing could spoil this.

Matt sighed a bit, and laughed. Leave it up to his brother to know what was tacky and what was not. As he was about to offer a lighthearted retort, when someone walked into the deli that required immediate attention.
The girl was green. Green, and carrying a considerably large dessert with her. But what he noticed the most was... she was green. With a tail. And horns. And maybe, in that case, like Logan and Leander in that she wasn't the 'normal' kid of the times. Also... She looked like an organized young woman... it couldn't hurt to ask her a little question...
"Kenzie..." he murmured to his twin. "What say we ask that young lady in the white if she has any babysitting experience... She seems... sort of like the boys. Maybe they'll get along."
Leander nodded to his brother, and took the slide again, using his tentacles to demonstrate once more how the technique went. Even though he'd never tried it before - not having wings and all - he figured.. it SHOULD work. He saw a mama bird push a baby bird down a treebranch, and IT flew... shouldn't this work a similar way?

Kenzie was staring because the girl had come in in a huff. But the color did catch his attention. At first he thought he was seeing things. Maybe she looked a bit sick? But no, she was literally green. It was actually a very pretty shade of green and she was a very pretty girl. If Kenzie wasn't gay he might have been wanting to see who she was
".... Why don't we see who she is first, Matt? If we walk up to her and go: "Hi, you're like our boys, baby sit so we can go to the beach? We'll pay you good money." ..... that might be taken an odd way and get us in more trouble than anything else." He patted his brother's thigh though and looked around. The place was getting more and more packed.
"Come on. We'll get move tables to hers. Claiming it's packed. When we get up this old couple'll sit." He pointed to the couple to the side of them who looked like they were ready to sit. He as always nicer to older people. Offering them their seats, he ushered his brother up and grabbed the coffee and moved over to the girl in the white.
"Excuse me, ma'am.. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing a table with my brother and I?" He asked, trying to be sweet. He could be very, very sweet when he wanted to be.
Logan mimicked his brother again, flapping his wings like he was flapping his tentacles. So he decided to take it upon him to flap his wings and jump a bit. He managed to hover for all of two seconds before his feet touched down again. Giggling and squealing, the boy clapped. He was delighted with this! "See? See? I fyew!"

The voice caused her to look up from her dessert. The men were strangers and quite a bit older than she was but he looked honest.... "Oh. . .of course. . ." she murmured softly. Moving her parfait out of the way, she made room for them by gathering up her books and placing them underneath her chair. The rock she used for a catalyst stayed close at hand, and she fidgeted with it out of habit as she waited for them to take seats and arrange themselves. "My name is Mimosa. . .it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. . ."

Matt sat down beside his brother, and smiled at the young lady as he nursed his coffee, and waited for the other food. He canted his head in her direction and wiggled his fingers at her.
"I'm Matt." he said softly. "Sorry about the intrusion... "
He had a sudden thought, and looked behind them toward the playset, where Logan and Leander were still frolicking. A smile tugged at his lips as he turned back around again.
Leander jumped for joy as much as he could, and slid down the slide again, before making his way over to the swingset, and getting going on that. His brother may be able to fly someday, but he wanted to learn how to JUMP really, really high, so he could keep up with Logan! And the best way to do that was with a swingset! He'd seen people go really high in these things. But he wasn't getting much of anywhere by himself...

He heard his son's loud voice and turned his head before speaking a word. What he saw was Leander jumping up and down and Logan flapping his wings and trying to fly, it looked like. He couldn't help but laugh at that and nudge his brother. Logan was hovering now and looking about really excitedly before he landed again.
"Would you look at that? He's hovering. Growing up way to fast." He beamed before turning back to the girl, face flushed. "Sorry 'bout that.. Those are our sons over there. Logan, the one with the wings? He's hovering. It's just so..." Kenzie cleared his throat and his cheeks colored slightly.
"What are you eating there?" he wasn't going to get around to the direct approach about this. At least not yet.
Logan hovered a second time and it was just as exciting as the first time! However, his wings were getting really sore because he wasn't used to doing it. Sitting down at the top of the slide the boy whimpered and rubbed at his wing joints with a look of pain. "Hurts, 'Ander...."
