The morning was brisk, and it was far enough from the heated sands of the Weyr for it to be not entirely warm. A slight breeze swirled the dust and few blades of bright green grass that clung to the path beaten by dragon and rider feet on their way to the lake, but the sun was strengthening as the day progressed and a pleasant wamrth infused the skin where sunlight touched.

Still shivering a little however, Teyin hugged his knees, the side of his face to the sunshine, eyes squinting a little against the light. The boy kept his hands around the warm chunk of bread that was his breakfast, or lunch, or general meal; he'd escaped from the kitchens, and he hadn't stolen this extra... he deserved it, and they didn't really need it there!

He convinced himself with a sunny smile and broke off a small chunk to hold it up. A delicate pale blue muzzle snatched at it carefully, and the little firelizard perched incongrously atop the mess of blonde-brown curls chirped softly. It wasn't meat, but it was warm...
Isca was dislodged with a flutter and a disgruntled squeak however as Teyin leaned backwards suddenly, spreading himself out on his back with a flump on the dusty, grassy ground.

"This isn't too bad, huh Isca?" The boy smiled, and closed his eyes to the sun's warmth.

Araye felt tired. Actually, to say she was tired would have been a terrible understatement. She was so exurbanitely tired that the ends of her fingers were shaking as she attempted to faintly comb them through her pale blonde hair. Her eyes flickered somewhat as she lowered them, biting on the end bottom of her lip as she glanced at her appearance in the bottom of the murky pot of water she had been carrying out to be dumped.

Her face, in the reflection, was a peculiar one marred with a kind of dull complexion. Her skin was still as pale as milk and it haunted her up from the dirty water. But everything else, although once so lovely, now was not so much. The bandage that forever covered her left eye still remained, slightly dirty now for she was in charge of everything she did as a drudge. No one washed her clothes if she did not wash them for her, and she was still just a girl. But ah- there would be time for bad feelings later.

Gritting her teeth, she circled her fingers through the latches of the iron pot, and lifted it upwards. The weight immediately caused a bit of pain to chill across her shoulder blades, but she did her best to ignore it and continue her slow path outside of the weyr underbelly where it would be dumped out into the grass.

It took a few more minutes for her to reach the door. For a moment she hung in thought, her pale fingers red from the pot, before groaning and shoving the door open. It swung open with a rusty groan, and with another huff, she continued to drag the pot across the path, and towards the weyr bowl. It wasn't more then teen feet, but it felt more like a dragon length.

As she stumbled, she suddenly became aware that she was walking directly in the path of a boy sitting down on the grass. "Uck-" She whispered in surprise, and attempted to avert her path by slowly sidestepping. "Sorry!"

She couldn't help but train her eyes on his flit however. It would must have been nice to have one of those little flutters- although she supposed her sisters were always getting her into trouble.

Teyin's eyes snapped open, and at the sight of the drudge girl he scrabbled upright and tucked his feet out of the way.
"Oh, sorry!" He was apologetic for being in the wrong place, and made sure there was plenty of room for her to pass.
But a nagging feeling in the back of his head said that he should probably be helping; she was a drudge, yeah, but that pot looked really heavy. But hadn't he come out here to escape the work?

Whilst he was wrestling with his thoughts, Isca however chirped brightly and took to the air in a swirl of pale blue wings, examining this girl closely. The bandage across her eye made her recognisable; they'd seen her often in the kitchens before, even if they hadn't spoken.

Teyin realised this only a little while after his faithful little fire lizard did; scrambling to his feet he looked around to see if anyone was watching. There appeared to be no-one around; there were a few dragons bathing in the distance at the lake, but they wouldn't see this far, or really care.

He held out his hand, gesture indicating that the bucket should be handed over.
"Hey! Why don't I carry that for you?" He was barely taller than her, and knew he looked a lot younger than he was, so he added a quick boast at the end.
"I'm stronger than I loook, y'know..."

Araye pressed a finger to her mouth slightly and pursed her lips. It wasn't good for her to be pawning off her duties on weyr brats- for she had seen this fellow around sometime before. She shook her head softly, causing her shortly cropped blonde hair to gently sweep across the corners of her face. "Um-..."

For a moment, she was distracted by the flapping wings of the blue firelizard. He was really a pretty color of blue, and she lowered her eyes from both of their gazes, becoming slightly self conscious. It was not so much for her eye anymore as it was the fact that she was, well- rather dirty.

"I probably shouldn't be doing that." She said softly, her fingers still straining against the iron pot. But it was so heavy! It wasn't like anyone was hawking over her... maybe... the headwoman could be scary at times. "Alright, if you really want to...I suppose, I mean-" For the life of her, she could not stretch out her hands to even give the boy the pot, so instead, she sort of tipped it to one side.

Araye couldn't help think that at a time like this, her sister probably would have carried the pot. But there was so much different between Farin and herself. She wasn't strong like that, and really, she was tired...

"Thankyou..." she stammered, shaking her head again. "I'm Araye."

"Sure I want to!" Teyin smiled again, suddenly feeling self-righteous that he was helping out even if he'd come away to escape chores. He stepped forward to grasp the thin handle with both hands, blinking slightly but otherwise not showing that it was a lot heavier than expected. Isca chirruped again, with his odd, fluting voice, and made as if to grab the handle also with small forepaws, but decided against it at the last moment and settled atop of the boy's head. He seemed used to it, however; Teyin just made a small face and laughed.

"Well, Araye, I'm Teyin... " he realised he was holding the heavy bucket and had no idea what to do with it.
"Uh... where is this going?" The water sloshed inside as it bumped against his legs, and he looked around, the small blue fire lizard industriously copying him, small head swinging round on the thin neck.

The dragon was angry with him.

For whatever reason that was flitting through the big bronzes mind, Sei had told his rider that it would be best of P'athen spent some time out of the weyr, preferably down in the Lower Caverns. And considering that the pair's new weyr was one of the higher ridges, P'athen took that statement to mean a "and while your gone, get an attitude adjustment." So with a deep sigh, the tall wingrider took himself out, leaving the ebony hued bronze to sun himself on the ledge.

But he didn't go to the Lower Caverns, thoughts of mingling with all those people nauseated him, and given the fact that his one source of support when he was meeting that many people was distant from him today...

Overall, it was not a good idea.

So instead he found himself a likely patch of shade at the back of one of the service tunnels, half asleep with a blade of grass hanging languidly from his lips, listening with vague interest as a drudge and a weyrbrat spoke.

((hope no one minds if i jump in...))

Chaerens soft weyr hide boots made quiet skuffing sounds as the green rider walked down one of the Weyr's many service tunnels. She was dressed simply today as there was no thread for she and her dragon to fight, nor was there any work that needed her immediate attention. She wore a white shirt with loose, open sleeves and a dark blue vest that matched her equally dark blue skirt that went down to mid calf. she wore a thin pair of white pants under her skirt that tucked into her brown leather boots. Long, black, and slightly curly hair was held back from her face by a light blue hat that both kept her hair in order, and kept the sun out of her large, blue-grey eyes.
Curled around her neck was a recently hatched queen firelizard whom watched her surroundings with bright red eyes. This in itself was strange, but the little queen also had a heart shaped birth mark on her rear, making it easy to distinguish Auri from any other queen around. Accompanying the queen was Chaerens little bronze flit, Basa. Since his queen had stolen his former spot around their owners neck, the eldest firelizard of the fair had moved house to Chaeren's vest pocket. Somewhere outside and above the tunnel she was sure the other four flits that made up her fair, two blues, another bronze, and a brown, were following the other three while amusing themselves with arial acrobatics.

Chaeren came to a stop at the entrance to the tunnel and observed two younglings outside it on the path. One was a small blonde girl with a patch over her eye, obviously a drudge from the looks of her. The other was a boy who was not much larger, but was accompanied by a blue firelizard. The boy was either a weyr brat or a candidate, Chaeren was not sure which.
The much older green rider smiled as she watched the pair. The boy seemed to be insisting the drudge let him carry the pot of water for her. This made the woman grin. It always made her happy to see a person helping another in need.
The green rider hadn't yet noticed the other rider stretched out on the floor at her feet.

As the pot appeared to switch hands, P'athen felt himself dozing off again, the crinkled blade of grass fluttering down the front of his plain brown tunic. In the back of his mind, he could feel Sei begin to doze off as well, which made the bronzerider smile softly. Guess he's forgiven me enough to let me in again. he thought mildly, amber brown eyes closed as the chatter of the others receded to mere background noise.

Until chittering of a different sort startled him to awareness.

As slowly as they had closed, his eyes unshuttered to look up at the woman standing over him, her interest apparently situated on the drudge and the weyrbrat. He almost smiled at that, how could she miss him on the ground in plain sight? But instead of catching her attention the way he saw other bronzeriders do, he merely coughed, his gaze intent on her face, his own facial expression passive and even a bit sleepy but for his eyes.

"Oh, yes. Right here-" The small waif like girl pointed unsteadily towards the grass. "It just needs to be dumped..." Out of the corner of her good eye, she cautiously watched a few moving shapes in the faint distance. Riders maybe? She shook her head somewhat and paid them not too much attention. It generally wasn't in her job to converse with them, and in all honesty, she'd never spoken to another dragonrider that was not Farin.

Feeling a bit uneasy with eyes upon her, she reached out towards Teyin's hand. "Maybe- maybe I should take it." She questioned, and wrung her fingers through her dirty smock. The last thing she needed was to be reported for being lazy.

"No way," said Teyin stoutly. "I'll be quick, no-one will see..." He gave a cheery grin and began to lug the bucket the short way to the grass indicated. He contemplated tipping it up, but after the first small attempt he realised he wasn't strong enough to do that yet. Muttering crossly he instead let it thump to the floor and then tipped it over from there, hop-skipping backwards as the flow of dirty water gushed out. He looked back to where Araye was standing, and gave a thumbs up sign, Isca fluttering down to perch on his head once more.

But now he was turned around, he realised that his empty line of sight was no longer empty. Two people? He hurriedly grabbed the bucket handle and brought it back over, the emptiness making it clank against his leg. When he was close enough he began to whisper.
"Araye, there are riders around! What happens if they make me do work again?" His face was a picture of comic dismay, and his bright green eyes darted from side to side.

Chaeren jumped as a small coughing sound came from down around her feet. A man lay there, apparently a rider from his clothing and shoulder knots. She looked down at the man and nodded a greeting, saying "I'm sorry, I didn't wake you up did I?" She asked, a little embarassed that she hadn't noticed him in the first place. He wasn't exactly hiding, nor was he small. She hoped he didn't think her brainless or spacey for not noticing him. Fact was that the female green rider had been so absorbed in thought she hadn't really even noticed where she was going until she had laid eyes on the two children in the bowl.
Auri, Chaerens red eyed queen flit looked at the man on the floor curiously. She chirped at him, wondering what on earth he was doing down there on the ground in the middle of the path.
Hearing his queen questioning something, basa stuck his head out of the pocket he was curled up in and looked about suspiciously for any other challenging male flits. He spotted P'athen and hissed a warning at him about staying away from his queen.
Chaeren chuckled at her two flits and said "hush lovlies, leave the nice man alone." When the woman looked up again, she saw the two children eyeing the pair of them nervously.
"Ah, seems they've spotted us." she said aloud. After a moment of thought the rider waved cheerfully at the pair, letting them know that she was friendly.
"Good afternoon younglings." she said with a smile as she stepped out of the shade of the tunnel a way and smiled. She advanced no further though, deciding to let them approach if they so desired.
A small breeze stirred Chaerens long black hair slightly, making the woman reach up to straighten her hat. Moments later two blue, a bronze, and a brown flit all swooped down from the sky and circled around the woman, making her laugh until she waved them off, the two currently perched on her chittering and whistling their hellos. The other four went and perched in various places nearby, all watching the three various strangers in the bowl.

P'athen would have mumbled a noncommital response and left, but Sei's warning voice held him where he was.

Ridermine, be nice, you shouldn't have only me for company.

The bronze chided, and looking up at the shadow of a passing wing, the wingrider could see his dragon perched atop a rocky outcropping directly above. Frowning, P'athen ignored the dragon, focusing instead on the woman and her flits, she was a greenrider and a harper, judging by the knotwork on her shoulder. But before he answered her, he stood up and inclined his head politely. "Of course not" he started, turning his head to glance at the other two when she spoke to them, though he said nothing more.
