Be safe, my heart...

Wise and loving words from her parents had sent the large femme off to a beautiful start of a fruitful journey, setting off for the first time completely unaccompanied out into the vast world which was these native lands. Escaping the surreal world of the rain forest of the far west, deep into the woodlands with mighty oak growing tall was where the mare decided to stop for a quick drink. Leaving her scroll at home so she would not lose it in her travels, long and sturdy neck arched down to touch parched lips to the cool waters. Drinking up her fill of the delicious stream, Subira was left alone for a few moments in her thoughts. After many a days and night exploring the lands and meeting many faces - none the one she had been searching for; Subira had returned home for a while to learn of her older brother giving birth to three wonderful little children. While spending time with the new family and reliving the memories with her old ones; the mare set off once more....unsure what she sought this time...but she hoped she would find direction in her life which seemed to elude her with each passing day.

For one as large as she, there was concern that she stuck out like a sore thumb around her earthy and otherwise disperse surroundings. Soon she would be entering the prairie lands where it would be just her and the golden sea, watched over by the star lit skies above. "At least....it is clear." Soft spoken vocals whispered out, a smile stretching across her marked muzzle as she was indeed blessed with mild weather on such a journeyful evening thus far.

Perhaps....it be best to continue on... And so she did, finding her way to what seemed to be a large lake nestled amongst the scarcely growing trees; feeling a bit lost in both heart and footing. Standing along the shore looking at her own large reflection the mare thought back on her journeys, simply passing time till she would need to bed for the night.

Gunkan had been away from Nori for too long. His heart ached to see the red hair carefully covering his lover's eyes. It almost felt like a secret between them when he looked into those eyes, so carefully shielded from anyone else in the world. Not that he minded, it was something special, something wonderful they shared. He could read Nori entirely when he looked into his eyes, just as Nori could read him.

They hadn't been together for years, but it felt like they had been made for each other so perfectly that he had always known Nori. It was cliche, but it was like finding one's missing half. And when little Onigiri had been left to them, it was their chance at having a family.

The weeks and months had passed, and Gun had felt that his heart would burst with love and pride for their son. But at the same time both he and Nori had been sad. He shut his eyes as he remembered their talk, blowing bubbles to the surface of the lake.

They had talked about it for a long time. They didn't want Oni to feel they didn't love him, but they wanted him to not be raised alone. They wanted more kids, tons of kids, as many as they could have. Their hearts were so filled with love that there couldn't possibly be enough foals in the world that they would ever run out.

That was why he was here. They'd decided to adopt, or find someone that would carry their child. Someone, who would understand and be involved or someone who needed someone safe to leave their child with.

These thoughts weighed heavy on his mind, as he pushed himself through the surface of the water, shaking back his blue mane of hair.

The ripples of the water were faint, but not gone unnoticed by the large mare; the wind was not strong enough to make such disturbance at the moment. Following the waves with strength pushing them off along the otherwise placid water she saw emerge from the murky depths none other than a horse...with what liked like a flipper of a tail. He was no Mer that she knew, the Mer in her herd definitely had similar characteristics but this one had more horse than fish to him. Having never come across a breed like he the mare was taken back by the sudden company - with no prior knowledge of his sub species it made her a little nervous.

"Hello...." Strangely soft vocals chimed up from a low tone voice, to match her size and build. Docile brown eyes blinked a moment but was soon to offer a soft sort of smile; as she was relieved not to feel any evil presence from the stallion thanks to her diluted angeni blood.

"Have...I disturbed you? I was just....lost in thought and didn't realize I wasn't alone." Subira admitted, noting the stallion was rather well groomed and had peculiar pieces of jewelery on his body. He was odd, but beautiful - purely noticed on a scholarly mind frame.

Yet the one thing which kept her stare on him a little longer than what would have been considered polite by any standard, was that he wore such an expression similar to her own. Something which both intrigued her and broke her heart at the same time that someone else felt as....lost as she did.

For a moment, Gunkan was taken back. He wasn't quite sure what to say. She was very lovely, her hair was silken and beautiful--Nori would love it. He felt an odd throb in his heart. He felt sadness overwhelm him, because Nori wasn't here with him. He should have made him come! Never left without him...

Shaking his head, he let his hair dry as he shook and stepped into the shallower water. "Hello." His voice was deep, less vibrant than usual and a bit self-conscious. "You've not bothered me at all. I"m...alone. Very alone," he let out a soft, audible sigh.

"Your presence is welcome." He stepped outside of the water, shaking himself off again. He met her gaze. "I mean that, but if I'm disturbing you, I an leave. I know my kind aren't exactly loved."

...Alone. Very alone. Subira fought back the shudder which tempted to slither down her spine at the very realization they were kin in thought. While whatever made him feel alone probably was very much different than her own reasons...in that moment....it was like she was looking back at her reflection once more. Moments were something Subira took very seriously, perhaps it was her reason for venturing out in the moment to study why moments could be so powerful and intense in both happiness and sadness....and her findings continued to amaze....and haunt her.

Shaking her head softly to allow the jingling of her metal adornments fill the night air; her eyes drifted up to meet his, trying not to look taken back by their meeting. "I am glad to hear such." She breathed, before flashing a moment of confusion...sorely wishing she had prior information about him to rely on.

"That is...hard to believe. I can tell you are not a Skinwalker, nor Kalona or any kind of malevolent soul from what I can feel....I can't understand why you would believe you are unwelcome or despised." None the less a moment later she found her ears sliding back against the ebony of her hair as her gaze drifted. "Not that i've....met of your kind before - but I do know a Mer and you have similar characteristics so I may have prematurely judged based on previous knowledge..." Despite not having the studder of her father, Subira could tell she was babbling a bit nervously as she still was not entirely sure of herself when meeting someone.

"Yet.....I too...feel alone." She breathed as an absent after thought, looking out across the lake.

Gunkan watched her, she seemed a bit sad like him. Maybe she had someone she loved and was missing? But whatever her reasons, they were hers alone and he wouldn't pry. If it came up, he would talk with her.

"The presence of a kind soul and a beautiful one is always welcomed." He smiled a bit somberly, "I. I'm a kelpie. Some thing we're evil or at least very into mischief or trickery. Maybe some are, but I'm not. Neither is my Nori." He blushed as he spoke his lover's name and the feelings of loneliness, of emptiness without him came rolling back over him.

He felt a small blush creep across his face. "We are creatures of the water, and of the land. But we can't dry out. We'd get very sick and die without it."

He tilted his head to look at her gently, as his hair fell half in front of his eyes. "Are you...okay?" But was it fair to ask her that? Was he, himself, even okay?

"Kelpie..." She whispered, already her mind hard at work to register any information she was given - something she would add to her scrolls when she returned home and relive the memories with her family. The compliment didn't go unheard as she felt her own cheeks heat up with embarrassment; feeling they were better suited for someone like Zyanya or her father. "I am glad to have met you then...I try not to be judgmental about species on mere individual basis...but the mind is only so strong." Yet seeing his own cool blue cheeks stain purple with the heat of what she suspected was a blush she allowed herself to crack a soft smile.

"Nori must be special to you...that is quite a fond tone you have." Ah, love. It reminded her of her parent's most beautiful love - something she too hoped she would be blessed with one day. "I envy your abilities....I once saw under the water and it is a most beautiful and calming world I saw..."

Once she caught his gaze and his question came out into the open the broad mare felt herself shrink a bit; not one for spilling her heart out to just anyone....but it was a strange kind of moment she was in. "I...suppose. I am healthy, with wonderful family and few friends....I should be fine. " Should...there she went again sugar coating the turmoil in her heart.

"I suppose....I am feeling as if I will never find myself my own moments in life; and that at the end of the day all I will have are my memories on scrolls. Its like I'm second guessing and doubting such things will....ever happen. Its foolish really, but when there is so much life around you its difficult not to compare to what is set out in front of you...." Looking lost once more, she turned her body to the water to catch glimpse of her reflection once more; wondering what exactly she was looking for in the first place.

He titled his head to listen to her, her voice was nice--soothing even. "Those like me appreciate that. For too long, we've lived in the shadows of others of our breed."

He felt his face grow even more crimson as she spoke of Nori, "Yes...He is." His face went even reader. "Water is great, but at times I wish I could fly. It would be relaxing to sore up above or really not to dry out from being away from the water for too long."

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked," he spoke morosely. Normally, he was more chipper than this, more talkative. But he felt too sad to do that, to interact much. "I know what fine feels like," he smiled gently.

"I know what you mean. I love Nori, but something is missing. It's not love, but we have so much love and we can't have a family. Not like others. But we want one, and we'll make it work however we need to. I want him to be happy, and I want to be happy. And we want to raise tons of children together. It's all that we've really ever wanted."

"You're welcome...." Subira said sincerely, dipping her head in humble nature as her short tail have a flick along her back side. Love was precious, she was sure of it now....while many decided to fling their love around there was still such a purity she could see through the blush and soft gaze of the male beside her. Catching the notion his lover was a male her smile broadened, another love which transcends all; while not the same as her parents it was no less special.

"You are fortunate to have one another...love isn't easy at times; especially when forces are against such a beautiful notion." Subira looked off into the sky and seemed more happy and at peace then she had prior.

While listening to the Kelpie, she found that her heart tightened a little to hear the same trials and tribulations her parents were facing reacting out in front of her. Why was it that it had to be so hard for some, and the ones who had it easy just squandered that gift? Folding her ears back, she nodded her head slowly. "I understand how you feel...well, not personally...but you're going through what my parents are to the T."

Taking a few steps towards the kind male, she nosed his shoulder with her broad snout, a small smile traced on her lips. "Yet if i'm any proof of my parents success....you too will live your dream someday."

Gunkan's smile started as she spoke of her parents, and as she nudge him gently while speaking again--he felt like his whole face was covered in a grin. "You,--you're parents? I mean." He got a bit flustered.

"How? How did they make it work, how did they find a way to do this? I mean, we know how but not what you go through or how to even ask someone into your family?" He blushed profusely, hoping she understood what he meant.

"Yes...my parents." What lovely souls they were, she felt at times that even when the world was against them the kept smiling and kept their family together.

"I will tell you a little story, if you don't mind the listen." Subira started, and looked out to the sea, what had seemingly started the tale. "My mother is an Usdia, and my father is the Angeni of knowledge. When they had met down by the shore they fell in love; an impossible feet for two entirely different species but it was love none the less. My mother found an usdia basket; and protected it by all costs from a skin walker....when they brought it home after fighting off the beast she and my father realized what fates had in store; and became life mates as well as began a herd. It was actually an accident that they met my birth mother; a regular mare with the same giraffe print as my mother; and she agreed to have children for them." Subira let on an air of sadness, although more so kept her professionalism about her.

"However her good intentions at the beginning corrupted; she figured my father would come to his senses and love her if she bared his children but he did not. After they were born she couldn't stand the thought of my mother raising us, and stole away with my sister; intent on taking all of us but Father and mother stopped her. It tore them to the core to lose one of the children...my sister; but it was done under love; so they couldn't do anything about it. I have never met her, or my birthmother...but I do hope to one day reguardless." She turned to Gunkan, her smile still evident on her lips. "The story doesn't end there though. They ended up adopting our funny brother, an abandoned kalona mutant; and otherwise have helped raise some of the herds other kids as well. They keep trying although are scared to pursue other surrogates from what happened; but always keep their hearts open for others to wander into our growing family."

She thought for a moment, his question was well warranted, her parents didn't exactly ask; but her father had such a charm for the mare to have otherwise agreed to it from their level of friendship. "I don't know for sure; but sometimes I like to believe the Angeni of fate is watching out for some people. Perhaps it is the romantic in me, but my best assumption out of my knowledge of stories; you'd just get that feeling about someone." Giving a bit of a sheepish expression she rolled her large broad shoulders. "My apologies I could not give you a better answer than that."
PostPosted: Mon May 14, 2012 2:24 am

Gunkan listened to the story. He could feel the anxiety wellling up inside of him. It was what he and Nori feared. What if they invited someone into their home and then that person left with a part of their heart? He could feel the ache in his chest. What pain her parents must have gone through...But wasn't that the point of love? To do things, to throw caution to the wind at times? If you truly loved someone then you risked it.

So even though it was a tale of caution, wasn't it also a tale of love? They had endured--they were okay. "It must have been very painful for them, I've feared it...greatly so has my Nori. And even though we will be cautious, our love--our desire for children will have us seek a surrogate still. We love each other--we love foals not even yet born, we'll risk it. We have to."

He paused, "Sorry, I didn't mean to be so...caught up. Your answer was good and wise, from experience. Am I foolish to still want to anyways?"

Shaking her head slowly, the mare put on a kind smile on her face as her eyes caught some fish jumping out of the sea far from the shore. "I think it really hurt them, but the fact remains they still love more than anything the child they have never met again - my sister. She is still a part of us even if not present. If they didn't pursue it, my other sister or I would have never come into existence either. In tragedy can come gifts too....a risk worth taking in my opinion."

As she looked to Gunkan she could see the love on his face...but the fear as well. She knew it was what all parents, same sex or opposite had to face when having children. There was a risk no matter what for your heart to be wounded, or for bad things to happen.

"I don't think you are foolish. My parents are still wanting to try for more, but they are waiting for the right person." Who knew when that day would come, but the mare kept her gaze set on the kelpie. "Perhaps you just need someone to come along in the same sense..."
