Name: Kalyia Age: 18 Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: Straight Craft: Tanner (working with leathers as a tailor type) Rank: Journeyman Physical Description: Plain. She has no scars or markings that will distinguish her too much... her hair is dark brown, her eyes are brown, her skin is the normal tan of a southerner. She wears the leathers that her father made for her mother (a dragon rider who has just died in the recent threadfall). The leathers fit her just right, and have a very serious thread score in the left chest... though she's patching that up so it's not a gaping hole. Personality: She's very open as a person. She does as she pleases and loves to experience new things. She's calm and collected, full of spunk and adventure, and she loves it when dragon riders come to the shop to get their leathers repaired because she gets to be close to the dragons. She used to wish she could be a dragon rider when she was little and her mother would come to visit her, but she now considers herself too old to impress, and she knows that her father would never let her stand... especially now that her mother has been killed in threadfall. She works hard, plays harder, and is never adverse to a challenge. History: Kalyia was born on the outskirts of Monaco hold, the only resulting child of a tryst between a female dragon rider (Kita), and her childhood love (Rolin). They were accidentally reunited at a party one night, and lost control of their common sense. When the night was over, Kita left early (believing that she'd made a mistake), and only returned later to give Rolin the baby she'd decided not to abort. Kalyia grew up at the outskirts of the hold, learning to make leathers like her father and the other tanners, but it soon became apparent that Kalyia's real talent was repairing worn and torn leathers. This suited her just fine, considering her love for dragons and their riders, and the other tanners were of a mind that most dragon riders were currently nothing more than a nuisance and a drain on the food stocks. While her father (a man with a dislike for all things dragon, considering his past) and the other Tanners worked on less dragon oriented leather crafts, and generic riding tunics and leathers, Kalyia got to get up and personal with many riders, doing not only the final fits of new leathers, but also the loving repairs of well worn riding attire and gear. This contact allowed her to meet many many dragons to fit harnesses (with their permission) and meet even more riders as the damaged tunics were brought to her. Ever since her mother had come to visit her the first time, Kalyia knew that dragons were something special. Her parents: The short story is that Kalia's mother and father have a complicated past, present, and no future... The long story is, well... longer. Kita was born in the hold, a normal girl to normal loving crafting parents. Rolin was much the same, only male. The two played together from the time they were 3 until they shared their mutual first kiss at the age of 13 and 13 1/2 respectively. It was at that time that Rolin assumed that he and Kita would be together for the rest of their lives, however not even a year later, Kita impressed Halinth, a small picky green dragon. Rolin thought that Kita being a green rider wouldn't affect their relationship, but he couldn't have been more wrong. He could never mean as much to Kita as Halinth did, and he didn't want to share the love of his life with the love of her life... so they fought, and in the end Rolin lost (as he should have known he would). He became slightly bitter towards Kita and her dragon, and didn't speak to her for years. In fact, Kita was transfered to another hold with fewer green riders not long after that. Later, when Kita and Rolin were 25 and 25 1/2, they came face to face at a party. Rolin was with a young hold woman who was very pretty, and Kita, seeing her childhood sweetheart with another woman, became jealous. She began talking to Rolin, flirting and trying to win his attentions... she didn't have to try all that hard, for Rolin was always looking her way when she was in the room. By the end of the night the two had snuck off together and enjoyed a classical tryst in a somewhat clean pile of hay. The next morning, Kita had come to her senses and Rolin awoke, alone with hay in places you don't mention in polite company. Needless to say, this event in his past made him quite bitter towards most dragons and dragon riders. Even more so when the pretty young thing that had been draped on his arm on the party came to tell him that she knew what he'd done and she didn't want to have anything to do with him ever again. 8 months later, he was seeing a different pretty young thing, when Kita showed up with a premature newborn baby... his premature newborn baby. She told him that when she found out she was pregnant, she had made the decision to stop traveling between to have the child... for him... because it was his. They shared an angry, tearful conversation where she told him that she did love him and she did want him, but that he could never get over the fact that she would always be closer to Halinth. He agreed with that and they parted, him keeping the baby and she keeping to her life. Rolin named the child Kalyia and began the difficult task of raising her himself. She was as spirited as her mother had always been and he found that, while they did get along and love each other, he was always being forced to come up with newer and more innovative forms of punishment. Kalyia was never kept in the dark about her mother, in fact, the dragon rider would come to visit her daughter whenever she could (usually about three times a year). Kita never had another child, and Rolin was never with another woman. Recently, as you well know, thread began to fall again, and the dragon riders were called to fight. Kita was one of the many killed during the event, when she and Halinth were scored badly across the face and chest. Kita's leathers were in bad shape and as she jerked back in pain, her bracing strap snapped and she fell to her death before she even realized that she was falling. Halinth disappeared between, with injuries that would have been fatal in any case. Kita's leathers were claimed (upon her earlier request) and returned to her daughter. With the news that Kita had died in threadfall, Rolin retreated to his room and didn't come out for a week. Now he seems a changed man... The Shop: Kalyia works as a journeyman tanner in one of the outskirt tanner shops in Monaco Bay. She is fully capable of making leathers from scratch, but her passions lie in fixing worn and used leathers... this makes her a popular tanner among dragon riders who have become attached to their current leathers, but have injured the leather in some way. Even when riders come to the shop, the other tanners there point them towards Kalyia, both because her work is impeccable, and because she really enjoys meeting riders and their dragons. Other/Talents: She can flirt? She's very social, talking to anyone who wants to, and she's got a great memory. Will this character be a candidate?: I like to think eventually If Yes, will they have a NPC or PC Search? PC

Name: Jensien (J'ien if impressed) Age: 14 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Homosexual Craft: Harpercraft Rank: Apprentice
Physical Description: Jensien is tall for a 14 year old, having just finished a growth spurt. He currently tops out at 5'10" with the promise of growing even taller through the years, and he is mildly muscular. The poor boy never seems to know where his arms end or be able to keep his balance when knocked into, but that's only temporary like with most young teens. His skin is the tan that happens to all people who have spent their entire lives in Southern, his hair is a natural blonde that has turned almost white in the sun, and his eyes are green. Most others would consider him to be moderately handsome at the very least, though he's not drop dead gorgeous. He wears loose shirts, and fitted pants, liking his body even though he's still figuring out how to use it.
Personality: Jensien is a happy guy at almost all times. He can be serious when needed, and he knows how to solve a problem when one appears, but for the most part he's pretty happy go lucky. Being a harper, he's learning a trade that suits his personality (I picked the personality first and then decided which craft would suit the boy). He plays all instruments but he prefers the pipe instruments because the simplicity of the music and 'messages' presented appeal to him. Upon first impression most people would think that he was a flighty child with little on his mind other than having fun, but underneath it all he is quite intelligent and retains most of the things he observes. He gets along best with children (right now) because he's still on the cusp himself, but adults who get to know him can see that he's more than he seems.
His voice is more than suitable for a harper, his initial reaction to things is to always be honest, he comes across as childish sometimes, and he can be known to take a good joke too far. He's got a great sense of humor and a great sense of loyalty (which he applies liberally to many people). Jensien can be relied on in a crisis, but not knowing him personally, many people would overlook him on account of his age and goofy grin. Jen is rambunctious, adventurous, daring, reckless, bold, and a good leader in the best of cases... in the worst of cases he's a good follower. If you wronged him, he would probably hold a mild grudge, but wouldn't snub you unless your crime was unforgivable (unforgiviable being treachery, traitorous behavior, attempts to injure others... not things like cheating, being a philanderer) Jen's personal morals are tight, he'd never intentionally wrong another, but he wouldn't have a problem having a friend who had cheated in a relationship. Mind you, he wouldn't take personal advice from said friend when it came to matter of relationships, but to him that would be just common sense.
History: He was born into a family with no musical talent whatsoever, and so when he stood out as a young singer of moderate talent at a gather, his parents pressed to have him taken to the hall to learn to be a harper. It only took one try, since he was quite talented, and he was accepted and taken to live with the other young harpers in training at the very young age of 8 (the hall was in need of young sopranos). Not more than four months later, his mother and father were both killed in a boating accident. Seeing as to how the boy was already apprenticed to the harpers, they just left him there and didn't proceed to find him new foster parents. He grew to 14 at the harper hall, where he now lives. He was old enough to be able to understand what happened to his parents, but he doesn't dwell on it too much. Life happens. He probably has some repressed anger and issues regarding the subject, but they have yet to surface. He hopes to be a renoun singer and piper someday, but other than that his aspirations don't aim too very high. When Jen was 12, his voice changed, and while he still managed to keep his lilt and timbre, being a tenor, he was in only mild demand. Up to this day (a mere 1.75 turns later) he is still coming to terms with his new voice, trying always to make it more unique and better suited to his personal choice of 'simple' music.
Other/Talents: While music itself doesn't come naturally to Jen, the instinct of knowing what music suits what occasion has always been his best feature. That being said, this also allows him to be a good listener and let him know just what to say to people who 'need to talk'. Will this character be a candidate?: Yes If Yes, will they have a NPC or PC Search? NPC
Picture: none yet... simple boy, blonde hair, medium build, tall and lanky.
Note:: I have recieved two flit eggs recently, I also have a little green flit that came from Wotcher's last breeding and will be named Pippin and will belong to Jensien if he is approved. There is also a 90% chance that he will be getting the other two flits as well XD. I just can't home them until I know what they are because I want to stay true to my characters that I've written... heart I'm excited though!

NOTE:: This is the extensive form, only for those actually interested in knowing a lot more about the character. All the pertinent Candidate approval information is available in the Shop approved form ^_^ Name: Kalyia Age: 18 Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: Straight Craft: Tanner (working with leathers as a tailor type) Rank: Journeyman Physical Description: Plain. She works hard, plays harder, and is never adverse to a challenge. She does have her faults though... She can certainly be boisterous even though it never goes as far as violence, and she can be as stubborn as her father ... She's honest to a fault all the time and that leads to tactlessness, which, even though it's usually accidental, can certainly be taken the wrong way. Other/Talents: She can flirt? She's very social, talking to anyone who wants to, and she's got a great memory... really that's it though. She can't sing or dance and other than pressing simple designs into leather she's no artist. Will this character be a candidate?: I like to think eventually If Yes, will they have a NPC or PC Search? PC The LONG form PART I. PHYSICAL Full name:: Kalyia Reasons for the name(s):: Her dad named her that... I'm sure he had his reasons, but he never told them to her. He probably just liked the way it sounded. Date of Birth/Age:: She is currently 18 Address:: She lives with her father, in a small house on the outskirts of Monaco. It's right near the Tanner shop where they both work. Skin Tone:: She's tan, like most southerners Height:: Tall. Weight/Body Build:: She's fit. Not super thin, and certainly not fat. She does a hard days work and she's not afraid to use what muscles she has. Hair:: Brown and only slightly wavy... pretty plain. She keeps it long past her shoulders and braided up so it's not in the way. Eyes:: Brown. Peculiar Physical Traits:: Nothing other than a small scar on her left hand where burned herself while decorating a leather riding tunic, and even that you can't really see ever. Distinguishing Marks:: Nope. She's plain plain plain. Health:: She's always in good health, and even though she does get the occasional cold, she tries not to let it stop her. There was this one time, when she was 12, that she came down with a nasty flu and she was mad and grumpy and miserable for about 2 weeks, but since then she's taken most small illnesses with a grain of salt. He dad says that she gets that from her mother. Senses:: She's normal. No superhuman abilities. Voice:: Also normal. Not special, not grating, not noticeable. Though she can yell something fierce if she has to. When she was little she used to get "use your inside voice" a lot. Mannerisms:: She's deft... feminine and somewhat graceful, but deft all the same. Clothes/shoes/accessories:: She wears riding leathers, even though she's not a rider and doesn't really expect to ever be one. Her father was/is a tanner who used to make riding leathers for the dragonriders. When he was still making leathers for the riders, he made a special pair for Kalyia's mother (a green rider). When Kalyia's mother was killed during the recent threadfall, the leathers were brought back to Kalyia herself upon her mother's request. She wears them now to honor her mother and the other dragon riders who fell... also they're the best leatherwork that she'd ever seen her father do. Eating habits/mannerisms/tastes:: This girl will eat ANYTHING. She's not even the least bit picky. And even though she's usually offish and insulting towards new foods, she eats them anyway and usually likes them. PART II. GENERAL Occupation/Social Class:: Kalyia is a Journeyman Tanner, focusing her skills on fixing worn and torn riding leathers. She never expected to have to repair theadscored leathers, but she's finding that right up her ally. As far as social status goes, I'm sure she's regarded by her friends and the people who know her as 'That Kalyia"... meaning that while she's smart and usually happy, she's so straightforward that people often don't know how to take her. As far as Tanners go, she's got a strange regard about her. The other tanners don't really want to fit the dragons, and she does.. so they don't know what to make of that, other than to send the dragonriders her way. Views on Money/Spending Habits:: She could care less about money. Having lived with her father for her entire life, and having worked alongside him from a very young age, she really hasn't had too much to do with money or too much that she wanted to buy in any case. Education/Intelligence:: She's VERY smart, but like most very smart people, intelligence comes with a social price. She often says just what's on her mind and just what makes common sense, and this takes people off guard. Her education has been more than adequate, though most of it has followed more practical uses and applications. Marital Status:: She is single... technically. Political Party/Views:: She is for the betterment of Pern. She would do anything for the people, for the dragons, for the world in general... even if that meant going against someone who was leading, but completely wrong. Beliefs/Strength of Beliefs:: She believes that now that thread is back, the dragons will be the heart of Pern again... she believes that the dragonriders are heros (but she only has stories of threadfall until now)... she believes that she can do good for Pern, she just doesn't know how... she believes that her father means well all the time, even though he's a grouch... she believes that Old lady Galea dyes her hair (though why she'd choose that colour, god only knows)... she believes that hot drinks wake you up better than cold ones... and she believes that firelizards are annoying, but fascinating. What is his/her usual disposition?:: Cheery in an odd sort of way... Optimist/Pessimist? :: Realist?... it's a glass, it has water in it... why do I care how much? Personal Motto? Never shirk from adventure. (with the disclaimer that she'd rather not die or be maimed, she'd never hurt anyone else, and she'd never pressure someone else into doing something that they didn't subconsciously want to do) ... there was this time when she was about 12, Ferray (a friend of hers) dared her to jump off a short cliff. He wasn't even halfway through his dare before she had flung herself over the edge and into the water below... a short time later he followed, but he always remembered that she was usually already considering the more dangerous option whenever he thought to suggest it. Confident/Self-conscious? :: VERY confident. She'd have to be since she helps fit the dragons with their finished harnesses. How does he/she feel about his/her appearance? :: She could care less about appearance. Really the only reason that she even wears the clothes she does is because they have special meaning to her... in more than one way. (They belonged to her mother, they were the best leathers ever made by her father, they have touched a dragon more than once, it makes her feel special to have them, and they fit her and make her feel like her family is never too far away, even though that's not true) Most important possession:: Her mother's (now her) Leathers. Before then it would have been a music box that her mother brought her when she was 5, but that doesn't play quite as fast as it used to, and the leathers are something she can wear everywhere. Talents :: She's got a good whistle. She can shout, she's brazen and bold... she flirts like nobody else... she's got a great personality... she's the kind of girl that you love to hang out with, but that you'd never bring home to your mother because she's too brass. She says what's on her mind, and you can't really stop her. Oh, yeah, and fixing abused leathers (only the most important of her talents, and I almost forgot it) What is a normal day like for this character?:: Kalyia wakes up in her small bedroom in her dad's house. It's where she's grown up and lived all her life. The bedroom next to hers is empty, filled with boxes and stored goods, and the bedroom next to that is her father's. They share a small livingroom/kitchen and that's about the whole house. She is not a morning person, so she usually grumbles a bit as she awakes. The first thing she does is grab a small music box next to the bed and wind it two turns. (two turns of the key is all it takes to play one verse of the song now... it used to play more, but the mechanism is worn down.) Then she hits the floor at a skip (having been cheered by the song) and dashes down the hall to the kitchen. Her dad has usually been up for hours at this point and has left her some breakfast, which she eats even though it's cold at this point. Then she meanders down the street to the Tanner's shop where she works with her father and his associates. She gets right to work fixing up whatever has been left on her bench... and that's usually her day until she winds down and goes out for a walk, sometimes getting a drink, sometimes just walking... On a good day at work, a dragonrider will show up needing something done and she'll get to talk to them. But that hasn't happened that much in the past... now that threadfall has happened though... I suspect her days are about to get REALLY interesting. Greatest Fear:: Dying... never becoming anything... letting her dad and mom down. Major Goals:: 1. Help Pern in any way she can 2. Be a Mom someday 3. Live life to the fullest and never shirk from adventure PART II.V. HIRU'S QUESTIONS How is she on a bad day? On a sick day, she's grumpy, on a day where everyone irritates her she's even more brusk and blunt than usual, but not vindictive... on a day where everything goes wrong and everyone is bad, she's a little vindictive, and usally pretty withdrawn so that she doesn't say mean things to people... she's not really a snapper, always choosing to respond in short, blunt truths. What sort of things upset her, and how does she act once she's there? She's upset with stupidity mostly, when other people choose to deprive themselves of common sense and do stupid things for no reason. She's irritated with people who don't care for others, people who would rather do whatever it was they wanted regardless of the consequences it had on/for other people... she hates the way her fellows talk badly of dragons and dragon riders... she gets irritated with Ochre-like food (it's gross, and there's really no point in eating it)... and she's easily irritated with flits (they have no attention spans). Is she okay with authority, even if she happens to disagree with it? She is very okay with authority, as long as it makes sense. (say she doesn't agree with the individual points, but she can see that as a whole the process is doing well for Pern... then she's okay with it.) If she wasn't then she wouldn't support them, but I can't see her leading an angry mob or anything. I think she's more of a private schemer. How does she react when she happens to upset others? I wouldn't say she upsets people, but I like to think that when she speaks a truth it catches them off guard. She usually just shrugs them off and waits for them to get over it. It comes with her abundance of self worth that she's able to disregard the hatred of others (if there is any). For example (little example XD) G'ter asks if she likes his new tunic. She doesn't, and so she tells him that it's ugly. She's not trying to get more business or to insult him or anything, but he did ask, and she's never been one to pretty up a response to save the other person's feelings. G'ter takes it badly and tells her to 'stuff it' (only in Pernese), and she shrugs and goes 'well you asked' then goes back to her work. Later he comes back and apologizes, but she was never really insulted in the first place. That kind of thing applies to bigger problems as well. Is she explosive, or does she withdraw? She is withdrawn. There may be the rare time she was explosive, but she'd have to be in a dire situation (like queen of the world and the bug men have come to lay claim to the planet)... yeah, but that's not gonna happen. Does she rebound easily, or carry burdens for a while? She does both. She rebounds, because she has to, and in order to do that she has to have compacted all her worries and problems. It works well for her, and they don't tend to come back with a vengance... but then, other than her mother dying recently, she's never really had many setbacks in life. Even her mom dying hasn't wrecked her. Sure it was unexpected, but then again, there's not really a more honorable way to go for a dragonrider. PART III. RELATIONSHIPS Significant Other/Relationship:: She currently has no significant other, but that doesn't stop her from sleeping with who she wants when she wants... as long as they want to too XD Who does he/she live with?:: She lives with her Dad, in her childhood home... Monaco. Who does he/she spend the most time with?:: The other tanners. If she felt welcome hanging with the dragonriders, then she would do that in a heartbeat, but really when it comes to dragons, she's the equivalent of that little 7th grader on the bus, saving her seat, and so hoping that a real high schooler would sit next to her that day. Father/Relationship with him/Occupation:: His name Rolin, and she has a great relationship with him. He's actually one of her bosses at the Tanner shop where she works. He raised her by himself, with little to no help, and even though she was a pain and a handful growing up, he still loves her and would have done anything for her. She in turn loves him and would do anything he ever asked her to... even if it meant changing her life. That's the main reason she's never stood to impress at a hatching... her father is still bitter about the fact that her mother was a dragonrider and loved the dragon more than she ever would have loved him.... he feared the same would happen with Kalyia. Mother/Relationship with her/Occupation :: Her name is Kita, and she was a green rider. Recently she was killed in the threadfall, and had left Kalyia her riding leathers, but before that she made it a point to visit her daughter at least 2 a year when her duties permitted. Kita was actually stationed in another hold when Kalyia was very very small, and so the only relationship she ever had with her mother was when the woman would show up grandly on her green dragon and give her daughter presents and rides and tell her all about how great it was to be a dragon rider. Kalyia loved her and would love to be just like her...though she doubts it will ever happen. Now that Kita is dead, Kalyia has to take care of her grieving father, the shop AND try to live up to the memory of her mother. Siblings/Relationships:: She has no siblings, though there was a young boy that she hung out with a lot when she was younger... but now work takes all her time and really she doesn't get along all that well with the people her own age. They're not mature enough for the most part. Best Friend:: She would say she has many, though at this moment she has none. Lots of flings and acquaintances, but no best friends. She would make an excellent best friend though. Feelings toward animals:: She likes animals, she thinks they're tasty, she LOVES dragons, and while she thinks that FireLizards are fascinating, she finds their attention spans annoying. How does he/she view their family?:: She loves her family and would do anything to keep them near... unfortunately with her mother dead and her father grieving, she needs to find some new family or she'll be left all alone. How does he/she view their friends?:: She would go to the end of Pern to help them if they needed it. Anything. She would do anything for anyone she thought needed something and deserved it. How does their family view them?:: Her family, in turn, would have done anything for her when they were capable, but her father is basically a shut in now and her mother is dead, so there's really nothing left for her to get until she finds some new family. How do their friends view them?:: People who really get to know her find that she is the most loyal, most determined, most faithful and giving friends they'll ever have. But they have to get past the brazen truth of her... which I fondly call 'brass'. Who is their hero?:: her mother... who is now dead. She looks up to all decent dragonriders though (and that's not to say she thinks that some of them aren't decent... she doesn't know that yet, but she will).

THE BAD DAY:: Kalyia had time to blink twice before what she was holding in her hands even registered in her brain. She ran her left hand over the scoring across the chest of the light brown leathers. Without thinking she pushed her fingers into the gaping hole, feeling out the burned edges, knowing that a hole like this could never be fixed with a simple patch... knowing that a hole like this left a rider dead... without a heart... without the ability to bring the leathers in for fixing. She looked blankly up at the brown rider in front of her. Even if she hadn't already known every inch of these leathers, she would have been able to tell by the feel that they didn't belong to him. This was a woman's tunic, the pants stitched in the old style so the raw leather wouldn't scratch at a dragon's hide. The leather was old, older than this brown rider probably, and worn so that it would only fit the person who had always worn it... She blinked again, looking right into the eyes of the brown rider. She knew him, she'd slept with him once (or maybe twice, her brain wondered if he had been the one in the mask at the party last year... it was amazing what the brain would think of in order to not think of... yes, he was the right height to be the masked man at the party, it was probably him). She shook her head and held out the leathers. "This will be a very difficult fix." Once she said it, she wondered if she was even talking about the leathers, or if she was referring to... She sighed. "Kalyia..." The brown rider looked tired, worn out... like he couldn't even bring himself to say what he knew he had to. But that was fine with Kalyia... she couldn't even think it. "C'mon." She grabbed his hand and dragged him over to a table with chairs, where she poured him a hot drink and then stood looking at the hole in her mother's leathers. She wondered why she wasn't crying... This wasn't expected... it wasn't even a possibility before today... but somehow... She traced the design on the bottom edge of the tunic. Somehow this was both terrible and the most honorable way to die... "Kalyia..." the words came from over her shoulder, barely a whisper. As she turned she saw her father, staring at the leathers in her hand, staring at her own hand still sticking through the threadscore. "Kita" He said the name even softer, tears brimming in his eyes. Upon seeing her father cry, Kalyia felt her own tears rise, and then fall down her face, cascading in match to her father's... "Father... " She whispered. She tried to hand him the leathers, but he pushed her hand away, pressing the leathers up into her chest. His face was pale, drained of all colour, his eyes were pouring tears, and he was shaking a little, but his voice was strong as he tried to smile (unsuccessfully) at her. "She wanted them to be yours... you to have them... she wanted you to have them." He seemed to be fighting not to break down completely. "They were never mine... never." Then he turned and made his way slowly down the hall and out, using the wall for support. Kalyia had only to watch, still clutching the scored leathers to her chest. When her father had left, she looked again to the tunic... "It will fit you, you know." Said the Brown rider. "You look just like her... a little stronger, and you certainly have more attitude, but that's probably your father in you." He stood. "She did want you to have them. That's why I'm here. She said so before she even went up... made sure everyone heard." He sighed. Kalyia turned to him sadly. "Thank you." It was clearly a dismissal, and he took it as such. She had got the feeling that he really hadn't wanted to talk all that much anyway... and what with the smell of numbweed on him, she suspected that he was in more pain than he was letting on, and it was better to let him go rest than keep him here talking about her mother... She had a fleeting instinct to ask after Halinth, her mother's dragon... but that was futile. They were between by now... even though her having her mother's leathers meant the woman had been taken there after she had died. She sighed. No more visits from her hero... her hero had died. Kalyia pushed the information to the back of her mind and set the leathers down on her desk. She would work on them later, but for now, she had promised G'ten that she'd have his leathers by tomorrow afternoon, and heaven knew he'd need them now. She allowed one last tear to fall, and then wiped her eyes and went on with her work. Her father wouldn't want to talk to anyone until later anyway. ~~~~ What are Kalyia's faults? She is mosltly tactless, in regards to things that are honest. She can't sing, she has few friends at the moment, she believes in a system that (until recently) was considered archaic... she's afraid of spider for the most part, they give her the creeps... she can't cook, One ale and she's tossed, but she still indulges anyway... Then there are things that might be considered virtues that in her case could also be taken as faults, like her hero worship, her somewhat compulsive adventure behavior, and even her isolated upbringing. Really, I don't want her to be a Mary-Perfect, but I don't see her having too many really big flaws... she's not angry or resentful, she's not disturbed in any way... shes' really just a boring. single talent person. I have a hard time believing she only 'catches people off guard' in being blunt. The truth can and does hurt sometimes. I have no problems with people having their characters be more than caught off guard, but the impression that I normally get from dragonriders is that they tend to be pretty confident. I'd feel bossy and such saying 'she knows how to get under people's skin... I feel like the most I can possibly say is that she catches people off guard, that way they can decide to which extreme to take it from there. As a very blunt person myself, I know that it's possible to hurt feelings, and that everyone reacts differently. I guess I was going with the idea that a dragonrider would most likely be self confident enough to know that she was just a stupid kid XD In your example, the person she upset is the one to apologize, but what if they're not inclined forgive her on their own? That would be more accurate to real life then I suppose. She never says incredibly insulting things on purpose, and there will be the person or two that never gets over that initial impression... I am okay with that because I think that some adversary rps are more interesting than friends rps. ... actually it was the rogues that drew me in in the first place (and the chance to play at oppositions... I get really tired of 'lets go to the kitchen and talk over food rps) I get the impression she's not likely to apologize. Is that accurate? Of course she will! If she comes to the conclusion that she was wrong. She's not above giving apologies at all... Hell, she would even mutually apologize if she realized that she was half wrong. She really just says the first thing on her brain. XD Okay - I'm not trying to confuse anyone, or be a pain... I'm really not. This is just the way I always think through characters completely before I even submit them, and so it was just easier for me to include my typical complete long-form, and I didn't realize that you would be offended by more information. I can start again from scratch if you want, taking this character and ripping it down to information that is only direct personality if you prefer heart You can also aim me if you want a more direct conversation, I'm totally okay with that. When I was running my heavy rp gaia shops I always asked for that amount of information from each character so that I could make sure they weren't going to deviate from the setting, and it never even occurred to me that you might not want the same.

Name: Annalisea (Annie to her lovers, Ana to her friends) Age: 47 Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: As straight as they come. Craft: Vintner Rank: Journeyman (though I would like her to be considered for mastership if approved... I chose vintner because it's a trade that could keep her in demand, but was harmless as a whole.) Physical Description: She's cute and short, middle aged and pudgy. Her ears are round and floppy, her hair is long and white-blonde (kept braided up and wrapped around her head like a crown). Her face is covered in cute wrinkles that crinkle up when she smiles and laughs, the most noticeable being the crows feet around her eyes and the laugh lines around her mouth. Anna never wears any makeup, and she always wears clothing that is modest and covers her ample frame, never failing to keep up an appearance of class. When you look at her and she's smiling, you feel like your gran has just put out a plate of warm cookies for you... but when she frowns at you or scolds you even a little, you can't help but be ashamed with yourself... she's everyone's favorite pudgy grandma type. One look at her and you get the feeling that there's equal chance of her rapping you on the knuckles for pilfering baked goods as giving you a big hug hello. Personality: On the outside everyone thinks that Anna is this goofy, happy middle aged woman who can't stop smiling and laughing and feeding people. But on the inside she's an advocate for change. She believes in dragons and she believes in Pern... she also believes in common sense and in using devious behavior to get the things she wants. She has no qualms about baking sleeping dust into cookies to douse a person if she wants to snoop about their quarters, and she would never put a second thought into charming someone to get what she wants. In the end, what Ana wants, Ana gets, in her own no-nonsense, grandma kind of way. She's been a foster mother to several children, and she's even been an honorary mother to many more. She's the kind of person who will take in birds with broken wings just because they can't protect themselves... so really she's got a great heart, even if her morals can be askew in letting her do the things that she deems need to be done. She works towards the betterment of life for those in need. History: Ana was raised by smith crafters, and had a normal childhood as far as Pern is concerned. She was never terribly pretty, and never terribly in demand with the young men around her, and so, being very intelligent, she learned how to be manipulative to get the things she wanted. She was married to a man (for political reasons) at the age of 30, though he was older, and he died of a heart attack when she was 35. Though she liked him, she had never loved him and she mourned him more as a friend than a lover. She still thinks of him fondly, though she doesn't miss him. She started in the Vintner craft when she was 12, and she's been doing that ever since. right after her husband died she took in a few foster children to keep herself busy... one of these children had always had a soft spot in her heart because of the way they asked questions and never took anything at face value... when this child grew, impressed a dragon, and took to being a rogue, Ana was more than glad to become a sort of Hold spy for the rogues. Being a Vintner, she was allowed into the major gatherings and allowed to be a part of dinners and parties that others were not normally a part of, and with the help of her flit (yet to be hatched) she sends messages to the rouges and keeps them informed of the more mundane workings in the hold.... and being an older woman with an almost 'scary nun/teacher' vibe when she wants to, the hold is hard pressed to think that she could be a problem as far as spying goes. She's not against Pern, but she does agree with the rogues on more than one point... and she would do anything for those she considers to be a part of her 'family'. Other/Talents: Anna knows wine. She knows what wine to serve where and with what... but her unknown talent is observation. She listens and retains information VERY well. She can also skip 100 paces without missing a beat, even at her age. Will this character be a candidate?: Never If Yes, will they have a NPC or PC Search? She will never be searched. Picture: This woman is a pretty example of what she could look like << But this is more like her. note:: I realize that I've taken liberties with the history and background, but if anyone wanted to claim that they had been her foster child, or even just someone who looked up to her as an honorary mother figure, I'd be more than willing to allow for that... that's part of the reason I even left out the gender of her favourite foster child... so that others could play too ^_^ heart

Your Username: Keppit Candidate Name: Kalyia Link to Approved Profile: ** Link to Shop approved Profile ** Link to extended profile Link to Kally’s Leather Designs.
Why do you feel this character will suit a gold dragon?: This was a hard question… but I decided to pull it down into three similar questions so that I can answer this the way it goes in my head. Why do I feel that Kaly suits a Gold? Probably for the exact same reasons that everyone else feels that their super fantastic amazing hetero female with attitude deserves a gold. Kalyia is a strong personality without prejudice. People who refer to Kalyia might be more inclined to call her a woman and not a girl.. she’s someone who knows who she is and isn’t afraid to be herself at most costs. She’s not afraid to be afraid, and brave at the best of times. But that’s the boring answer… What I really want to answer is why I think Kalyia deserves THIS gold, but in order to answer that I think I have to start with a seemingly more random question – “What have I assumed about this gold dragon?” – Well, don’t be mad at me (I know what they say about ‘assume’ing things, of course it makes an ‘a**’ out of yo’u’ and ‘me’) but I’ve assumed a few key things here. Looking at those little red eyes in the shadow of the creature at the top of the contest page, and reading the words “The One Ring Queen” underneath, I can’t help but get a feeling of deviousness, malice, manipulation, control, a need for power… And all these things excite me in the same way that the idea of a Meta Dragon (let alone a gold) excites me. I have to be honest, when I first saw these things and the contest, I wondered if Kaly was right for this dragon… I thought about it for quite some time actually, that may be why it took me so long to answer the prompts. It came to me yesterday, before I fell asleep (damn you Sop shop for making me think about dragons all day every day for a flipping week). Since I have assumed all these things about Aedeth (how ridiculously wonderful that name sounds when you say it out loud), Why do I feel that this character will suit THIS gold dragon. It bothers me when people say “because my character is strong! And nobody can change her no matter what!” Because this is silly… surely being mentally bonded to another mind in a manner as strong as that of dragon and rider, your character’s personality will have changed regardless? Say you have a character who’s personality is base, and a dragon who’s personality is acid… together they make neutral in the strangest of ways… say you have a character and a dragon who’s personalities are both mild base, well then you get a bonding that’s not too different, but still NOT THE SAME! Which brings me to my point (about damn time). It occurred to me that if the dragon is all or even half of the things that I assumed, then I feel that Kalyia is more than right for this dragon for the following reasons: Kalyia has basically lived the entirety of her young life locked away in her father’s shop, dreaming dreaming dreaming of the day that she will be able to become an honorable dragon rider like her mother was, knowing knowing knowing that her father doesn’t want to lose her in the same way he lost her mother and he will never allow this. This means that Kaly’s view of the Weyr and of the political situation was founded only on the great lore and stories of dragons past. Sure she met many dragons when fitting them with harnesses or repairing leathers too damaged for easy repairs by their riders, but that didn’t mean that she got wind of the differences between Rogue and Weyr. Rather in her work she saw only “Dragon” and “Rider”, never understanding that there was a difference in belief as to what that meant. When the thread fell, her mother was one of the riders and dragons scored to death, and her father went into serious mourning and retired to his chambers, leaving his tanner/leather shop to his workers. This left Kaly to make her own decisions for once and when the Flight started, she ran to be a spectator, for the first time in her life. It was EVERYTHING she had ever dreamed… until it was over, of course, and she discovered that her perfect dream actually had cracks of political undercurrent marring its surface. This gives Kalyia an almost unique perspective on the situation, and more mental leeway to influence and be influenced by this particular queen… “One Queen to rule them all, one queen to find them, one queen to bring them all, and in the darkness… bind them.” I can’t help but feel that the character attached to this queen/gold is going to have one hell of a time dealing with mental anguish (aka, Am I Frodo, or am I Sam? Do I turn into Golem, or do I master the ring?) I can see Kalyia working through this, becoming mildly evil if that’s what Aedeth wanted, and then using whatever Meta information was provided to move on from there. Really, I don’t know what would happen in the end, and that FASCINATES me! But Kalyia is in control enough that she could handle a queen who was strong enough to control her, and she would be able to decide when to be controlling and when to be controlled, and is not currently biased in one way or another at the start. I feel that Kalyia will be an AMAZING meta character to read, and I think that “I” could more than do a meta queen/gold justice within the parameters of the shop. RP Prompt Response: Monaco Bay Weyr, and indeed much of Pern, is in a state of transitioning power. In the time you have been at the Weyr, you have witnessed a dramatic shift at the top of the hierarchy, led by the blasphemous abduction of Monaco's Senior Weyrwoman by the winner of her Queen's mating flight. It was a single moment of weakness, skillfully manipulated by the Rogue's top rider, known not by his name... only as Number One. Much has been revealed about this bronzerider, including his sketchy history, and tensions have continued to build both for and against him within the Weyr. What do you make of this? As a woman, you may feel sympathy for Iathe, but the liberation the Rogues offer is reminiscent of a time in Earth's history when women finally stood up and demanded to be treated equally... whether they wore skirts and heels or not. Are you a Rogue sympathizer, a Weyr loyalist, or will you instead try to mold the future in your own way, independent of both if given the chance? What kind of actions in your daily life will you take to illustrate your stance, and what is the personal reasoning behind it.
She stopped suddenly, as if she’d seen a ghost. Her heart was beating fast and hard in her chest as she absentmindedly raised a hand to the patch on her jacket and backtracked a few steps to look out the window. Her heart leapt in response to what she saw… nothing. She saw nothing… with a sudden, unexpected sob she realized she wasn’t sure if she was sad that she had only seen her mother in her imagination or glad that she wasn’t being haunted by the ghost of her dead mother… She leaned forward and placed her hand against the window pane to give her heart a moment to calm down. As Kalyia gazed through the window with tears in her eyes, she suddenly saw her mother’s face again… but… it wasn’t her mother, as anyone of sound mind would have been able to realize immediately. It was her own reflection. She swiped at the glass in irritation. Her father had told her time and time again that she looked like her mother, but she had only written that off time and time again as him being overly sentimental and overly protective.
“Any other window…” She whispered the words and pressed her forehead against the glass. Any other window, not a window facing the water where the wind howled and whipped in cold bursts across the sands, any other window would have shutters only, with no glass so that the wind could blow harmlessly though the candidate barracks keeping the humidity down. But this window just happened to have cheap enough glass in it that her face, skewed in the reflection, looked almost exactly like that of her mother’s. However, leaning forward, the reflection passed from recognizable to blur, and Kalyia could make out the hatching sands, ready for the eggs that were sure to come from the flight.
Ah the flight! It had been miraculous! The heady rush of excitement mixed in with hormones, and the closeness of all the bodies pressed together… in all her life, she’d lived in a metaphorical cave – trapped in every sense of the word – under her loving, but stern, father’s thumb. Not once had she been anywhere near the precious flights, never had she been in such close proximity to so many people, all as excited as she was… it was all so perfect! It was so much everything that she had ever ever wanted! Or at least thought she had wanted. Then after she had kissed that guy full on the mouth, that other guy had grabbed at her, that girl had given her a naughty look that Kalyia had managed to avoid by being grabbed by the first guy again… after all that had happened and the mob had quieted, they had all learned that the Weyr had been usurped by the Rogue faction… a faction that she had heard mentioned quite a bit while fitting riders and dragons with harnesses over the years, but never really learned anything about. And that had seemed to throw the Weyr into turmoil unlike anything it had seen in a long long time.
She sighed. The glass felt cool and calm against her forehead as she stared at the hatching sands. “Clutch,” she reminded herself. That was all that mattered! The good of the Weyr… “Mom” … she sighed once again as she stared across the sands to the Weyrleader’s complex where the Weyrwoman herself was probably still being kept captive. Rumor had it that the woman was being drugged into submission to keep the magnificent Panth from putting an end to all this, as the gold was surely capable of doing.
“Mom, what do I do?” She was so confused. She had always been and had assumed that she always would be of and for the Weyr. All her life she’d dreamed of being a dragon rider… hiding in her father’s workshops at his insistence, waiting with (seemingly) absolutely no patience at all for the time that her mother, honorable Rider Kita of green Halinth, would show up in the workshops with scarves and candies for her only daughter. At those times in her young life, Kalyia had known… Known deep down in her heart that she was meant for a dragon like her mother had been. She had known that there would be a day that her father would see it in her and relent and let her go to a hatching. On that day she would stand and impress the most honorable dragon, a dragon that needed her somehow as much as she needed it! Now that that day was coming closer and closer, it was becoming more and more clear that it wasn’t going to be at all what she expected.
“You always said that people didn’t really want the things they wanted… So maybe this is a good thing?” She said the first part out loud to the reflection, but quickly realized that talking to one’s own reflection in a dirty candidate window pane was probably not the best way to gain friends. She continued the conversation, but moved it to the private confines of her own head. ‘I don’t trust him… he hasn’t given me any reason to trust him other than his words.’ She wanted to believe him, wanted to trust that there would be equal rights and that his seemingly blatant honesty was indeed just that… honest… but recent revelations to her were telling her that everything she’d believed about the Weyr was totally wrong. She had had this almost Utopian view of the world around her, and in all honesty, she had always watched her mother riding that magnificent beast around, and had had no reason to believe that women weren’t already equals… “I am loyal to the Weyr.” She said it out loud, but the second it had come out, she wondered what definition of ‘Weyr’ she was talking about.
RP Prompt Response: Your day has been a long one, for the work of a candidate in times like these is never easy. Caught somewhere between a dragonrider and a drudge, you find that you and your fellows are being pressured into doing what you think is more than your fair share of the work. To add to the misery, the tensions in the Weyr between the dueling factions of dragonriders has left the non-riders dangling in the middle. With that in mind, your final chore of the day is helping to serve dinner in the Dining Hall. A fight breaks out between a greenriding female Rogue and a brownriding male Weyr Loyalist, and in the scuffle one of your fellow candidates is shoved to the side and injured. The fight is over duties and in-house tithes of support to the Weyr, namely that the brownrider (well known around the Weyr for his explosive temper and hardline stance on circumventing the Rogues at every opportunity) has been forced to filter his side business of curing feline pelts through the Weyr so the Rogues could take a cut of his earnings. He is not the only one facing this abuse, but A'tarl also has a reputation as a male chauvinist, and the Rogue rider he has decided to pick a fight with this evening is one of the female Rogues who has been circulating the Weyr telling women that they do not have to bow to the men, that the Rogues award merits regardless of gender. Do you attempt to break up and placate the sides, or will your own views of both parties cause you to take one side in particular... or rouse what fellow non-riders you have around you to show both factions that some things are no longer going to be tolerated.
It was several hours after Clio (a fellow candidate) had dragged Kaly from the barracks to the dining hall for Porting Duty. This had never been one of Kaly’s favourite chores in her life, but it was one that she had always been able to do without any trepidation and so she did so willingly. Not being a very good cook or popular among the candidates in particular, she had been relegated to busgirl, and she had been at the task of clearing the tables for about an hour now. It occurred to her that this marvelous feast that was promised, and these ‘perks’ that were happening with the rogue ‘additions’ had yet to benefit the candidates at all. Not that Kaly minded hard work, but that so far she and her companions were all being treated like slaves for the most part. But then again it must have been difficult to balance the more powerful members of the Weyr for the last week, and she was hoping that once things calmed down life would become more exciting. Oh but how she longed for excitement.
She glanced over to a table with some rogue riders. She admired the way that the women were sitting right among the male riders… sure that second guy on the left was a green rider without a doubt, but the rest of them looked to be more masculine than most and they seemed to actually be enjoying the company of everyone around them without prejudice. Kaly turned her attentions to a table full of Loyalists and a frown came over her. They were sitting (all male) staring at their plates, not talking or noticing each other. Not for the first time this week Kaly found herself wishing she had had more time before emerging from her seclusion to get to know the general feel of the Weyr population. She was forced to wonder if they had always been stoic and self contained people, of if it was the sudden ‘invasion’ that was keeping them all so sullen. She wanted to believe the latter, but couldn’t help hearing the rogues chattering happily. Maybe they were just glad to be back among fellow dragonriders? Beh… she knew she was being stupid in that train of thought… and the word ‘invasion’ was too harsh a word. The rogue bronze had flown the queen… that was all there was to it.
“Yeah, you can take my plate. I’m done with it. But L’tin here would like you to know that you’re very handsome indeed!” Came a voice from the rogue table Kaly had been watching only a moment ago. She spun slowly to see who it was they were talking to and had to give a half smile when it turned out to be Jensien, a fellow candidate. She couldn’t help but watch with amusement as he blushed and reached out to take the female greenrider’s plate. He seemed to mutter something along the lines of ‘thanks’ and then the female green rider pulled him down on the bench to talk to him. Kalyia rolled her eyes. That was happening all too often and not just to Jensien. That was another thing… it was all fine and good to talk about equality and honor and duty and righteousness, but when that didn’t extend to the lowly and demeaned dragonrider ‘wannabes’ it did the world about as much good as a hole in the hide.
She had already turned and partially cleared another table of its spilt drinks when she heard something between a roar a shout and a growl. Spinning around, she just caught sight of Jensien being grabbed by a very large man and tossed aside like a ragdoll. He wasn’t actually after the candidate, he was squaring off with the female rogue, who rose to face him only a split second before the entire table of rogues behind her all jumped to their own feet. It all happened so fast – There was A’tarl standing proud and tall and menacing, backed by a group of (admittedly smaller) Loyalists, facing down a ridiculously brave/stupid greenrider rogue who was backed by a table of people herself, and all this happened before the 14 year old Jensien could finish pitching wildly into the nearby wall where he slid down into a crumple on the floor.
Without thinking, Kalyia dashed her tray to the floor and sprang towards the two showdown riders, protesting loudly. “Hey! Don’t fight in here! It’s all riaaaghhshptmmmpph…” Her protests were cut completely short as she caught the back of A’tarl’s hand, swatted away from riders as if she had been nothing more than a gnat buzzing around the large man’s head. The force was enough to knock her completely off balance, sending her careening into the same wall that Jensien was sitting against. The force of his hand against the bridge of her nose had erupted searing white hot pain across her eye sockets, blinding her for a moment. Shaking her head allowed her to literally shake some sense back into herself, and she became aware that Jensien was sitting forward looking at her with concern. She lowered her hands from her face (not remembering having touched her face at all) and was somehow still shocked to see her own blood covering the back of her own hand. She imagined the smear that must be across her face and chuckled unexpectedly at… at something. Jen and another candidate were hovering over her, and she heard Jen say ‘it’s just a nosebleed I think…’ in a far off muted voice. She looked up dazedly at the two riders still staring each other down, neither making a move on the other for fear of bring down the wrath of the table of people backing the other…
It would though… would what? Ugh, her head was so fuzzy. It would escalate. That was it. This was going to happen… She knew all about A’tarl’s reputation. He was a favourite among Weyr gossipers it seemed, ‘and no doubt he should be’ Her brain supplied. He was strong and handsome and crazy… she watched the scene in front of her with eager eyes. His stance was more braced than the woman’s. He would break first.
Without thinking (again) Kalyia jumped up, head spinning from the sudden movement. Jensien and the other candidate protested the shocking movement, but she could only hear them as if they were in a world apart, far away. The first impulsive spring might not have taught her to avoid being brash, but she had learned to duck… which she did. Being stupid and quick allowed her to duck into A’tarl’s arm space and pop up right in front of him. She didn’t really have a plan other than ‘seat of my pants’ but it worked, because the initial surprise of her personal invasion caught him off guard for a moment. She knew he couldn’t really hurt her because she was WELL inside his swing space for actual blows, and to shove her he’d have to take a step back. In fact, the only thing keeping her safe was the bronze rider behind A’tarl who had placed a dangerous hand on the large man’s shoulder, seemingly to warn him off smashing an already bloody candidate through the floor.
Her heady rush of adrenaline kept her from passing out, but didn’t stop her from suddenly being terrified. She slammed her eyes shut and spoke quickly and clearly… “If you’re gonna kill someone you’d better do me, cause you can’t kill a dragonrider no matter how stupid they may be.” She took a quick breath and tasted the blood dripping out of her small nose before rushing on. “You can kill me cause I’m just a tanner… I’m not a rider.”
She heard the brusk voice of Jensien from the wall add “Yet…” to the end of her sentence.
Kalyia wasn’t sure how long she stood there, facing A’tarl, back to the green rider, but it seemed a dizzying eternity before she chanced to open her eyes and look at the large, imposing, handsome (her brain supplied the word again) man who was giving her a look that embodied three things: Most of all painful wrath at having been challenged by a mere scrawny woman, slightly shocked at the thought of possibly letting a temper blatantly kill another rider and thus a dragon, and just the tiniest smidgeon of respect for the bloody face of the woman standing WAY too far inside his personal space. She didn’t dare smile at him, but stood there trying to look brave, but mostly only managing stubborn.
Fortunately for Kalyia, the two stubborn personalities didn’t have to square off very long, because the female green rider pulled on Kaly’s shoulder. “C’mon, get out of there, he wasn’t going to kill me. He’s just a bully.” The tug on Kalyia’s shoulder was enough to pull her out of A’tarl’s personal space, and he reacted quickly.
He reached out a massive palm and grabbed Kaly’s face in his hand. Her vision exploded white and then purple and red with the pressure of his grip, but the grip was designed to move her, not to hurt her. He shoved her blatantly to the side, into the wall once again, where she found the solid, unyielding force of its surface to be extraordinarily comforting. In this position she allowed herself to focus inward for a moment and missed whatever it was that A’tarl said to the green before stomping out of the Hall. Moments later the greenrider and her tablemates left through another door.
“Kalyia!” she snapped back into reality and saw the blonde head of Jensien staring down at her with worry. “Are you alright?” He reached out with a wet napkin and wiped some blood off her cheek where it had smeared.
She grinned at him. “Did I die?” She knew she hadn’t but now that the whole episode was over she was having to deal with being abandoned by her adrenaline.
“You should have.” With a sigh of relief, the younger boy flopped down beside her and pressed the bloody wet napkin into her hand. “You are crazy. Completely crazy.”
“Probably. But can’t change that now.” She wiped her eyes quickly and was impressed at how much better she was feeling already, if a little banged up. “You okay? Looked like you went into the wall hard enough to get the hide knocked off’n ya.”
He brandished an elbow with a flourish, and Kaly noticed that he was holding his left shoulder strangely. “Elbow scraping and something to the shoulder… doesn’t hurt as much now as it did before you decided to 'spook the herdbeasts', as it were.”
"Oh haha, he's not a herdbeast, he's a great big giant of a bully who can't stand to be bullied at all. At the best of times I bet he strips down enemies like nobody else."
"An on a bad day?"
"On a bad day?" She thought about this. "At least his breath is still fresh, even if his double standards aren't."
He laughed and patted her on the knee. The two of them were sitting up against the wall, side by side, looking more the worse for wear, but happy enough. Another candidate offered them another wet napkin, and Kaly took it with a smile and a ‘thanks’.
“You’re going to be a rider, I just know it.” Jen’s words caught her off guard and she shot him a confused look for a second before it because apparent that a knitted brow was not a pleasant expression for someone with a possibly broken nose.
She ran through several things to say in her head before settling on “I sure hope so…”
“No, you will. Your instincts are good… people like A'tarl don’t back down from a challenge just because you talked some sense into them. People in that state of mind don’t have sense at moments like that, they just have a blind rage and a need to express it.”
“So you’re thinking me getting my own face smashed in was a good thing?” She almost laughed at him, but remembered the current state of her face in time to spare herself needless pain.
“Oh it was stupid, don’t get me wrong” He groaned and started to stand. When he reached his feet, he turned and offered Kaly the hand on his good arm for assistance. “But you let him hit you… twice… which probably helped dispel some of that rage, and then you stood so close it was shocking!” The blonde harper laughed suddenly. “I thought you were dead, but I guess you gave him a good long look at a person who was willing to at least try and match him step for step and who wasn't done yet.” She took his hand and allowed him to help her to her feet.
“oh, Dizzy…” She raised a hand to her head as the blood rushed through her system.
“Yeah well… dizzy or not…” He pointed to the wall where there were three distinct blood smears, one from a face as it slid down the wall and two bloody handprints that could only belong to her long scrawny fingers. “That mess there is all yours.” He turned and left her standing there staring at the wall, holding a wet rag in her hands…
Only a few minutes before she had been wishing for excitement… Well, as her mother had always told her ‘be careful what you wish for’ … She laughed out loud and then gave a gasp and a slight whimper as the extreme expression caused her poor nose to wrinkle…
“Ow… It was worth it.”

Your Username: Keppit Candidate Name: Kalyia Link to Approved Profile: ** Link to Shop approved Profile ** Link to extended profile Link to Kally’s Leather Designs.
Potential Leadership Style: Kalyia would be a very good leader. She's logical and determined in all things, not to mention that she believes in the greatness of Pern. She thinks that the salvation of the planet is and has always been in dragons... why else would their ancestors have put so much effort into cultivating dragons and dragon kind? When she was little, she always tried to solve her toys' disputes as fairly as she could, though to be honest, her toys never brought her any problems any more interesting than who slept in who's spot.
Political Views: Her opinions are undecided for the most part. She believes in dragons, and she believes in equality (but that might have something to do with the fact that her mother was a green rider and she has always thought her mother to be one of the greatest heroes she has ever known. She really hadn't had much to do with Weyr politics before that first thread fall, the fall in which her mother was killed. But ever since the rogues came crashing in, kidnapping and drugging Weyrwomen and such, she has had lots of time to think about things. The rogues want equality, and that's good right? She also wants equality. Her mother told her once that her Green dragon was at least as smart as any human she knew, so then why shouldn't green dragons be held in as high an esteem as a brown, or a blue... but then blues are bigger... browns are even bigger... ugh, it's all so confusing. There's a right answer to this... Kalyia knows that there's a right side and a wrong side. The world is black and white to her, she's just not all that sure what things in life are which colors yet.
DRAGON Name: Wyndith
Inspiration: Constellations as a theme, with the understanding that from the Rukbat system there would be some different constellations. Long story short, I made one up. "The Windrider" is a constellation seen from planet-side during the fall and winter months. It is the result of a an old folk tale about a man who felt the need to wander when the wind came blowing by him.
Origin of Name: Wind --> Wynd --> Wyndeth.
Personality: Wyndeth is blunt. Controlling, manipulative, bratty... Honorable in her own mind, she does all the right things for all the wrong reasons and all the wrong things for all the right reasons. She's young and stupid. Weren't we all. She likes to be in charge and thinks that she knows the answer to every problem, even though she doesn't. At the start of her life, Wyndeth is the epitomy of a terrible two year old, and it will take the abrasive personality of someone like Kalyia to control her. With Kalyia's help, Wyndeth will become a more controlled brat, and may even turn into a decent friend with proper morals. She's got a an inner circle in her head, and even though Kaylia doesn't discriminate when it comes to friends, Wyndeth tends to make quick judgments. If she thinks that she's on your side, then she's not at all afraid to take your opinion to heart no matter what that may be. She likes to think that she's better than others, but really that's just a cover for her feeling so lost at being a leader. I reality, Wyndeth can be either good or bad, great or evil... She's got the great potential for both and she just needs Roleplay and growth to determine which.
Strengths: She's bull headed, strong, opinionated and she actually wants to be in charge. Weaknesses: Haha... she's bullheaded, strong, opinionated and she actually wants to be in charge.
Color: Gold - But a dirty rusty gold. (*more dirty than rusty, I don't want her to look like a bronze)
Body Points: She's a tad smaller than the normal gold dragon but not quite stunted in any way, just... smaller. Her almost dirty rusty color makes her quick to think that others are judging her for being different.
Why do you feel this character will suit this dragon?: Wyndeth needs someone who can control her. The dragon is not a black and white thinker, she tends to be wishy washy at times, swaying from one cause to another if she suddenly thinks that another cause is better than the one she currently supports. It takes the Yes/No attitude of someone like Kalyia to keep her on track. Wyndeth just wants to belong to others. She wants to be respected and looked up to in all ways, and without the help of someone like Kalyia she stands a real chance of becoming a 'bad guy'. In balance, Kalyia needs someone like Wyndeth to make her look past the initial judgments of right or wrong. The dragon helps the rider see the grayscale, and the rider keeps the dragon from playing the grayscale like a piano. Without one another they are each mediocre. Bonded together, they become... captain planet.. no... they become true leaders.
Are you comfortable with this character being considered for a clutch dragon?: No. I have two green/blue candidates already entered for touching, and I think it would be rude of me to try and pretend that I hadn't written Kalyia as a gold rider when it's very obvious that I have.
