Ayumi had wandered away from the Ulili-Mlindaji lands. She had gotten into a bit of a fight with Edea, and the stern leopard said a few words that hit a little too close to home for the normally chipper cheetah. So instead of dragging it out, Ayumi went for a run to let her thoughts clear from her head. She had found a place to rest, her heart still heavy. She wasn't as upset, but that didn't mean that she was back to being annoyingly happy. "Ugggh, I'll have to go back soon, before I make anyone worry," she said to herself. It was a little nice to not be under trees anymore, though.

Manelesi was on the prowl. Well, not on the prowl, exactly, it was more like he was just wandering to wherever his paws took him, making sure to keep an eye out for any single, available, pretty females looking for some conversation and/or company. Either of which he would be happy to provide.
He noticed a reddish spot some way away from him, and decided to wander towards it. He wasn't going anywhere in particular, and that seemed as good a direction as any to go in.
He was quite pleased, as he got nearer, and realized the reddish spot was actually a pretty female cheetah, all alone and seeming sad, with they way she was laying and the expression on her face. If anyone was the cheetah to cheer her up, it was Manelesi.
"Are you alright, Miss?"

Ayumi's ears twitched as she heard a voice, quite close by. She hadn't been listening if someone was approaching her; there were a lot of creatures that wandered around all the time. She was a tad surprised at being approached herself, though.
She glanced upwards, her green eyes catching sight of a charming cheetah gentleman. It was times like these that she missed the open lands a bit. Even with all the visitors of the Ulili-Mlindaji, it didn't get the variety that the open lands offered.
"Um, yes. I'll be alright in a bit. Just trying to clear my mind, y'know? A good run can help, but sometimes its just nice to sit and think about things, too." she said, her chattery nature getting the best of her.

"There are few things better for clearing your head then a good run and time to catch your breath," Manelesi agreed. Manelesi sat down behind the female, back straight and tail curled around his forepaws. "My name is Manelesi, by the way. Do you want to talk about what's bugging you? I'm a pretty good listener and it often helps if you can talk things out."
Manelesi often found that females liked to be listened to when they were sad . . . but also when they were happy. Any time really. He was good at listening (or, with the whinier ones, pretending to listen), and he relied on it often as an opening move.

"Hello," she said with a soft, shy smile. She wasn't really used to others being the approaching ones; she was usually the more "pushy" type. Strange how living within a pride could really change the way you acted, even if subtly. "My name is Ayumi." Her tail swayed behind her as she reclined, the gold bands towards the end blending in well with the colours of the savanna grasses.
"I just managed to irritate my best friend. We're like, polar opposites, but somehow our friendship holds. I guess she got tired of my energy. I think....I took it harsher than I should have." Which she didn't think at the time, but after clearing her head it was obvious Ayumi had let it get too far under her skin.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Ayumi. I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it, if she snapped at you. Sometimes everyone just needs a little space, right? I know I need mine. Even though company has it's own good points, normally."
Manelesi couldn't help put admire her. She was a very pretty cheetah, and the sun shining off of her accented her colors nicely.
"Is there a pack or a pride around here? You're the first lone cheetah I've seen around these parts, and as nice as it is, with those trees near by, I was expecting more activity."
Manelesi was trying to carefully getting around to finding out if she was a member in a pack, the kind with big scary male brothers/father/relatives or whatnot that didn't like random males talking to pack members. That kind of thing could put a a damper on pleasurable company very quickly.

"Well, her kids are at that annoying age where they think they know everything...she probably needed space and I didn't realize it." She was usually a little too absorbed in herself and what she was worried about. Ayumi probably deserved that telling off.
His question distracted her from moping though. "Oh! Well, yes, I came from a pride, but it's really not that close. I'm sure no one would miss me for too long. I'm usually out helping with the hunting anyway," she said with a smile. "It's nice to run without keeping your eyes on the meal in front of you. I need to do it more."

Manelesi nodded along with her. "So your friend has cubs? I bet they're a handful. Cute little nippers, are they? And what's your pride like?" He hoped it wasn't one of the very warlike ones.
Still . . . a friend with cubs. That might be a good sign. Didn't females love cooing over each others cubs and comparing them and all that sort of thing? He hoped so, it could be the opening he was looking for.
"I myself am headed to a pride I've heard of a way down the coast. It seems they're information gatherers."

"Well, seeing as they're adolescents now, they're not so cute anymore," she said with a wry smile. "More like a pain in the rear, but I guess that might be a good thing." At least no one was going to have to watch over them all the time anymore. "I'm from a pride that builds shrines for the gods. Very relaxed and comfortable. Probably why no one will really miss me for too long. Edea will probably be thinking I'm helping someone out, regardless."
She twitched her tail, enjoying the conversation. "The coast? That's interesting. I'm more up in the mountains, but I bet the coast is nice if you can enjoy the salty air." She didn't, not really.

"Well, it's good that she'll be surrounded by her family as they grow up. It's nice to have a welcoming pride. Do you have family there? I'm a bit nervous this pride will be lonely with no family around."
He wasn't really, but his aim was to get her mind on the idea of cubs. Manelesi hadn't seen any of his family members in over a year, since he left his mother and sisters in their den and hadn't looked back. He wanted a pride for the security it gave; being one of many. He wasn't looking for a family though, or friends, even.
Manelesi was really only interested in tail, in the end, and although he could be quite forward with lionesses or leopardesses, he tried to be slower, more subtle, more of a gentleman with female cheetahs. He wasn't sure why he just seemed to think cheetahs were more refined and needed more careful handling. He was trying to tiptoe around the subject at hand - to him at least, Miss Ayumi might still have no idea what he thought was going on - but he was sure they would all get to the same point eventually.

Ayumi wasn't really stupid, but she wasn't the most perceptive either. "I bet," she answered. "I'm the only cheetah in my pride too. At least, full blooded one," she added on with a smirk. "I guess I never really think about it much. Thanks for putting that lonely thought it my head!"
She hadn't ever thought about it. Honest! She was too busy being social to think about it. Also, having a leopard as a best friend didn't make you think about being the only one of a species much. Not with little blue balls of fur....that were now getting bigger than her, width-wise.
"Maybe I'll have to fix that," she pondered out loud.

Manelesi nodded his agreement emphatically. Perhaps a bit too emphatically. He no doubt looked silly to any casual observer, bobbing his head up and down with such force.
"It's no good being lonely when you're surrounded by other felines. You've got to have some of your own kind around." He stopped for a few seconds, wondering how to proceed. "I expect it was quite difficult to help raise leopard cubs, what with them being up in the trees all the time."

"They were a bit heavy too," she laughed.
She was starting to feel a bit better. It was nice to have some company. "Hey, do you want to go hunting together?" It was always easier to catch something with someone else to help!

"That would be nice. It's always easier to catch something with two. And I could use a meal before I move on."
Cheetahs weren't like lions, and male cheetahs had to be as good at hunting as the females. Manelesi was confident that, even if he didn't impress her with his hunting prowess, he would not make a fool of himself.
"I saw a small herd of gazelle not far away before I spotted you," he said. "We could check there first."

Ayumi smirked. "Well, that sounds like a good plan to me. I think we should get going before they wander away too far from where you last saw them." She jumped up, starting her stretching so that she would be ready to run.
"I'm ready whenever you are!"
