This is the official joining RP for those who were successful in their applications. The following is a list of those permitted to post here:

- Mimsey (No, Adiel, Mizuka)
- Kimaria (Kidondo, Roho, Azar'bijan)
- Ecavi (Nawvlee)
- Sabra Knight (Suditi, Xennek, Sekayi)
- Mei Silja (Amara)
- Puhterodactyl (Abidemi)
- Ameh (Kibahaluli, Karatasi)

Posting within this RP will entitle you to apply for a re-cert with one of the generic ranks (example: soldier, guard, huntress). Promotions will be available to these characters once they have been in the lands for a period of three months. If any of the characters above do not 'join' within this RP, they will be expected to gain membership through the duelling system in the future.

You may complete a self-RP here, contained within one post, or you may interact with the other refugees/rogues or with Kidondo and No (the Regents of the pride) or with the guard, Azar'bijan.

Kidondo was beginning to think that peace in the Motoujamii was an impossible and laughable concept. Put down one problem and another comes along a moment later. At least he could never complain that his life was boring. Being busy certainly was better than lying in the sun, withering away. He was a workaholic, always had been and always would be. He thrived on a good puzzle and this one would certainly bring interest with it. The last group of lions had brought problems with them and, no doubt, these ones would do, too. But who was he to turn away able-bodied lions? They were strong and willing, though tired and troubled by recent events. A bit of rest, food and water, and they'd be valuable assets, he was sure.

He'd have to arrange a meeting with Nawvlee to collect further details on the ones who had attacked his old pride. Kidondo did not take things lightly, and the lions that the outsider had described were certainly something to be concerned about if they did end up coming this way.

Luckily, here in the pridelands, they had advantages that the Hongshan had not had. They were settled within difficult terrain, large in number and continued to train and work hard despite the fact that they really had nothing to fear. But perhaps that confidence would lead them into a trap they might not be able to get out of. After all, if this unknown pride continued its rampage, absorbing others into its ranks, they could be just as number-some by the time they had arrived. He turned his head to look at Azar'bijan and gave a low grumble in the back of his throat.

"What do you think, Azar?"

"I think we need to keep an eye on them. They are outsiders, after all." The gruff guard stood and padded around the refugees, eyeing them suspiciously. "Trouble clings to them like stink to a rotting carcass."

Kidondo gave a wry smile, standing and shaking the loose sand from his fur.

Sat hunched amongst the others, Roho watched the large red and black lions with both distrust and wonder. They were big, certainly. Strong, yes. But surely it couldn't be so easy. Surely they would not allow them entrance to their pride without further interrogation or testing? Or would that come later?

Were they walking into a trap?

She shifted uneasily, casting her eyes around the faces of their group. Perhaps it was simply that Nawvlee had lived up to - and exceeded - her expectations. He was good with words, certainly, and as big and fierce as any of the locals here. "And so...it begins."

Mizuka didn't want to seem like he was dragging his heels. It wasn't like he didn't want a place to call home. He trusted their leader to make the right choice for them. But that didn't mean he didn't half expect to be walking from one horror and into another. Throwing in with this lot of desert savages was an act of desperation. And acts of desperation rarely went according to plan.

He crinkled his brow and fell into line with the rest of the group. Some lions from the pride were approaching them. One of them, this group's leader. Allegedly. At the very least, it didn't seem like Roho was letting her guard down either. He hoped then that the bitter taste in his mouth was the situation they were in, and not some feign attempt to rival his sister.

In any case, it was good to see that their two ambassadors hadn't been torn to pieces. He approached Adiel, who kept her distance from both the Hongshan and the firekin. She had a grim look on her face. No doubt agonizing over the situation she had put them in. "At least we got an audience." He remarked casually.

Adiel said nothing, and focused her eyes squarely on one of the new lions. Mizuka furrowed his brow. Their leader? Maybe, it seemed the other was deferring to him. Another lion was approaching with similar intent- this one a black female.

---

No didn't like to think she enjoyed war. She didn't. But even she had to admit there was a sort of... thrill to diffusing or igniting a situation. Planning was what she was good at. And the idea of another problem to trouble her mind with was at both times exhausting and thrilling. The black cat had been out on the dunes when one of the guards had brought her back at Kidondo's behest. On the tip over most of the sparse information had been relayed to her: refugees, some calamity, sob story.

She only had an interest in one of those things.

The regent took a quick moment to survey the group. The certainly didn't look like the usual fare, in any case. Her nose crinkled, and she moved beside Kidondo. "Trouble does indeed breed trouble," she commented flatly.

Amara hung her head low as they walked on. Her ears just barely caught the talk of the other prides lions and she glanced up to see the guard looking them over. Ears going back Amara glared at him black eyes fierce and angry. Everything else on her showed fear from the set of her ears and tail to the muscles that twitched and jumped under her fur like separate living things trying to run. She wanted to run and stop; to rest. However she couldn’t help herself and glance behind the group, eyes searching for a familiar face running to catch up after escaping. None had yet, and though her brain said none ever would her heart shook and jumped wanting them to show up.

She could still smell blood; it followed them like a wind. The brightly red male was sort of right. Looking to what should have been soft white paws, Amara saw blood soaked fur and claws that refused to hide as they should. She was scared, but for some reason she couldn’t feel afraid. All she felt was a numb shock. Why their pride, they were not so many and did not harm many. She looked around again at the few faces she knew. Everyone seemed just as tired as her. She looked to see another female go to the one she guessed was in charge. Again her words carried. To many rocks all the sound carried. Ears back Amara still made no noise. They were being treated like prisoners then guests.

Nawvlee was grateful that they had gained a more official audience than the brief encounter with the two scouts. It had been too hopeful to leave the others behind, though he walked with them rather than ahead of them, hoping to keep an eye on as many as possible while still having a clear view of what lay before him. He had been watching the guard that led them in carefully but now it was clear that they had been joined by the pride's leader and the red grump didn't matter so much anymore.

His eyes never left Kidondo and he knew, based on the suspicious look that the guard gave them as went around, they were trying to decide what they thought of the group of them. The dark lioness who joined him, giving the same suspicious look, confirmed it. She carried herself in a manner suggesting she too was a leader. The Queen, most likely.

Now was his chance to move in and make something happen, otherwise everybody could stand around here being suspicious of the others. The murmurings from the refugees was enough to push him on now, there was no time left now for careful calculation. The murmurings of the other refugees was enough to push him forward now. Silently, he pushed his way from the midst of the little crowd. His eyes stayed on Kidondo and No, though his posture was very careful. Seeming a threat now would do no good but he was far from putting on a submissive act. He did not say anything immediately, first presenting himself to the pair.

The two lions stood near the edge of the group, tense and watching everything that was happening around them. Both were tense. Tense because they were uncertain about what was going to happen next. The younger leaned closer to his companion and whispered the question that had been plaguing him since joining with this group of refugees. “You sure this was the right choice?”

“Why not?” Xennek looked down at his companion with a hint of surprise. “Don’t tell me that all these warriors make you nervous?”

“Not that.” Sekayi hissed back, “It just seems like there’s a strong tension with this pride towards outsiders…and then for them to bring news of those who had attacked them-“

“You’re afraid either we’ll get kicked out or that there will be war with those who destroyed their old pride?” The large lion shook his head, “As it is, we were headed here anyway. This group just helped us to finish up our wandering.”

“Ah.” The younger lion looked forlorn as he surveyed their group. He was not afraid to fight, no he had forced himself over that fear long ago. His temper too was reigned in since the other lion had saved his life. Sekayi was changing becoming a stronger warrior by the day. But was he fit for such a place like this? “What if we are kicked out Xennek?”

“Then we’ll be kicked out.” He grinned, a glimmer of amusement in his gaze. “But they can’t stop us from trying again.”

“Are you just shameless?” Sekayi blinked at him in confusion before sighing. No, he was just crazy. He had to be.

“Nah. Just bold. I’m not afraid to put my strength to the test. If they want to say we aren’t good enough then we just prove that we are warriors who belong amongst these fighters.”

“Oh.” Sekayi frowned, “Is it always fighting that proves worth?” He looked away from Xennek, “Don’t answer that. I already know what you would say.” He gave a soft sigh, yet had a small smile on his face. Fighting and the heart. Both were important to a warrior. Especially with Xennek.

The lioness slipped through the group, catching fragments of whispers and expressions. Her gaze was fixated on the guard and the others who had come from this new pride. This pride of warriors. Did the group of Refugees make them nervous? She gave a small laugh. Probably. They were after all strangers, not to mention that the news of their own pride would no doubt have a hint of threat towards this one. After all if their own pride had been invaded what was to say that this one would not suffer the same fate?

But if they were as strong as she had heard…

Maybe there was hope still yet. Suditi shifted and moved to sit behind Roho. A small smile, grim as it was, lit her face at her friend’s comment. “Let’s just hope it doesn’t end quickly.” She whispered. Then movement caught her attention. Nawvlee. He was going forward towards those from the pride. Towards the ones who appeared to have strong influence, probably the highest positions, in this new pride.

It really was beginning.

Kidondo nodded, sweeping his eyes once more across the huddle of faces. Some seemed completely unfazed about being scrutinised by the lions of the desert whilst others seemed slightly unnerved. "But where would we be without trouble?" He added, turning his eye briefly on No as she moved to join him.

Grateful for her presence, he turned his attention towards the leader of this little troupe (though, in fact, it could hardly be called little). First impressions told Kidondo that there were some very able-bodied fighters amongst the group, perhaps even all of them once the fatigue and nervousness dissipated.

"You brought along quite the rabble." He said in way of greeting to Nawvlee. "Quite a feat, considering the length of the journey and the fiercely unforgiving terrain." He blinked his eyes slowly and cast them all another brief look. "You have passed the desert's test but I must warn you, it does not end there. Our pride may be open for recruits but...we are selective, as I'm sure you already know. My guard has filled me in on the little detail you gave to him and I understand you have suffered much these past days. If the threat is as great as you suggest, then rest assured it will not be taken lightly."

He nodded sternly. "Are all of the travellers here from your old homeland?"

--

Azar eyed the potential recruits with a gaze that was no less than critical. Most seemed like they would have a fair chance, if he were being honest, but some of the others? He fancied their chances could go either way. He paused, catching the gaze of the female, Amara.

Her face was certainly angry and fierce; fire in her eyes for all to see. But the rest of her looked frightened and he leapt upon the chance to test her.

"You." He directed the word at her, altering his path to step towards her. "I can smell your fear. Do you think we will pity you because you are female? If you want to be considered, you had better shape up."

--

Roho nodded, smiling a little as her friend - more sister than friend after what they had been through - moved up alongside her. "They will see our potential. How can they not? We know we are strong. If we know it, they will know it."

She strengthened her posture and stood taller, glancing across as Nawvlee moved towards the rulers. A king and queen, perhaps? She knew little of the system of things here.

"Besides, we have Nawvlee." Roho thrummed, loyalty and pride glinting in her eyes. "With him as our spokesperson, how could we possibly be turned away?" She leaned in a little closer and murmured under her breath. "Do you think they are really as strong as people say they are?" They certainly were large but size wasn't everything, right?

No smirked. Trouble certainly had become the Motoujamii's constant companion these past few years... but for the most part, it had all originated from the very sands they stood upon. This little group brought news from the north... of another breed of trouble entirely. It caught her attention.

The black cat glanced towards her mate, quietly considering the reaction of the group as he spoke. It would take a dire situation to drive that many lions into the desert, when they could have easily established a new group of their own. Although whether or not the threat was as great as these shaken lions seemed to think it was...

Adiel cleared her throat, and moved from the secluded spot she had taken up. Mizuka did little to follow. "Some were only just initiated into the Hongshan before the Nergui struck. Others we met on our travels south."

She looked back over the group. Her voice shook with nerves. "All, however, know of the situation north of us. We did not wander here lightly."

Nawvlee kept his eyes on Kidondo as he spoke. The question surprised him, giving that he hadn't thought there to be any reason to suspect not all of them had once been Hongshan, and it gave just enough hesitation for Adiel to jump into the conversation with them. His ears turned back to listen to what she said though his eyes still never left Kidondo.

The shakiness in Adiel's voice encouraged him, pushed him to maintain a voice that was calm and bold.

"And we did not take in our companions lightly," he continued from what she said, willing to stand on behalf of the entire group, no matter how they had come to join, "Each and every one of these lions is strong, capable and aware of what we are getting into."

Abidemi sat near the edge of the interactions going on between the current pride members and kept his mouth shut. He figured it would be pretty wise to not speak unless spoken to so as to best be polite to his new hosts. This pride was quite the different setting from the one he had grown up in, but he could tell it would be a good fit for him. Especially because he had heard that he had family in this pride. His golden eyes were looking around at every lion he saw passing in the background. Maybe he'd find a grandparent or a cousin here! His tail flicked in excitement.

The young lion wiggled where he sat, eager to meet as many pride members as possible so he could find out which ones (or one!) he was related to. Though he had been traveling with this band of rogues for a while, he felt like having a family member in this new pride would give him a great sense of security and establish a feeling of belonging even in his new pride.

(So sorry I had not replied, I did not think to check but I will do so from now on every day.)

Amara had finally let her mind trail off to other thoughts as she kept looking over the rough terrain. Yet she heard a voice to close and knew it was directed to her. Lifting her head she faltered in her slow trudging pace as she saw it was the Firekin guard. Up close she could see he was not solid red but had patches of lighter fur, yet still it was red. It took a minute for her tired mind to get what he said to her but when she did Amara growled and flashed her teeth. “Fear is not weakness, those who do not fear die early.” She looked at him, not hiding the fact she was taking all of him in. “I am shocked you know what a female is, since I doubt you have seen much of one.” She raised her head high and walked with more careful steps then she had let herself fall to.

So she was scared, who wasn’t! They just hid it better than her was all but just because she couldn’t didn’t make her weaker nor the fact she was female. She hoped. What did he know anyway, a lion likely older then her who has a solid pride that was not just slaughtered. She glared at him her tail tip flicked back and forth. “Don’t think because you’re male and bigger than me, that I am easy prey.” Amara was sure the male had some charms to him and he looked strong, but right now all she saw was a bully who was pushing around a lion who had been without food and rest for days.

Suditi grinned, “It is true. They would have to be completely blind in order to miss our strength.” Her gaze was calm, confident in their fighting skills. “I for one will not show fear to them, only confidence and determination.” She commented softly after looking around the group. Most appeared to be calm as they waited for the decision from the pride leaders. That was good.

“Thank the gods for Nawvlee.” Whispered Suditi softly as she sat straighter and tried to catch what was going on in front of them. “He could talk the sun into giving us rain, I’m sure.” She joked lightly, but her expression held a serious light beneath the gleam of amusement. “As often as tales told tend to bend and change as they travel, I’m hoping that this is a case where the truth holds still. They are large that is true and the way that those who we have seen carry themselves tell me that they believe themselves to be strong. They seem proud and confident in themselves so I believe the tales may be true.” She smiled, “The question is though how can their strength fare against our own?” She felt that they were good additions to this pride of warriors as each of those from her old pride, and the new rogues who had joined their group, were strong warriors themselves.

---------------

Sekayi found himself fixated on the lions talking. The ones who were speaking with Nawvlee seemed to be leaders and he was sure that this conversation would determine the group's fate. Would they be allowed to join the ranks of the firekin? The young lion looked around, carefully studying the group. From what he had seen everyone looked strong enough to provide a good fight...surely they could see their potential.

Curious on Xennek's opinion yet again he turned to ask the lion, but was surprised to see that his companion had moved closer to another lion. A red male with a white mane...was his name Abidemi? Sekayi sighed softly.

"Are you nervous or excited?" Asked Xennek to Abidemi with a small smirk. He had noticed how the younger lion wiggled about. Something told him that this one was eager to get into the pride. It amused Xennek to watch him.

(Sorry for the slowness, guys D: study is really killing me atm.)

--

Kidondo nodded at hearing what Adiel had to say. Quite a mixed troupe, then, it seemed. Scanning them once more he saw all - at least - bore markings that the Firekin would accept. Whether they would be strong enough to earn their place here, however, was another thing entirely.

Even still, he fancied himself a good judge of character and Adiel and Nawvlee seemed likeable, dependable and tough. Tough enough to lead the rest of their followers here across harsh terrain and chased by fears. That, at the very least, had to earn some respect. "I think I speak for the both of us." He gestured towards No. "When I say that we would like to hear more of the situation in the north. Would you be prepared to meet with us after your people are settled? I will have Azar'bijan and some of the other guards accompany them to dens to rest. You may go with them to see them comfortable and we can send someone to collect you, if that would be more desirable?"

Certainly, for the time-being at least, none of these newcomers would be permitted anywhere without an escort. The last rogue group to wander by had certainly proved more difficult than they had first appeared.

He gave Nawvlee a wry smile. "Certainly, from what I can tell, you bring a fierce people with you, Nawvlee."

--

Azar'bijan curled a lip, easily angered by the female's taunts. He had quite an ego, this fellow, and for an outsider to speak such words...it was unthinkable!!

"You are easy prey. And I'd watch my mouth if I were you. You are the guest here and guests can outstay their welcome." The fur on his hackles were up, spittle gathering on his fangs. He huffed noisily through his nose and took another step towards her.

User Image

Heti - one of Azar'bijan's sons - could be heard chuckling as he approached Amara and his father. He was a proud and talented beast but he lacked his father's easily bruised ego which made him far more laid back than his sire.

"Father, I wouldn't make her too angry if I were you." He moved up alongside his father and the familiarities between them became clear. They both bore the same chunky, stead-fast build and the patches on their pelts - though Heti's was hidden beneath stripes. With a shake of his head, he gave Amara an apologetic smile. "Lions here don't have much reason to fear. We've not faced what you have. I'm Heti, by the way."

--

"We have fought for our lives." Roho added softly, drawing strength and courage from Suditi and their closeness. "They have not. I think that gives us one advantage, at least."

Her eyes were transfixed on Nawvlee, Adiel and the two leaders. "I just worry that we might let ourselves drop our defences if we stay here. I imagine that once we are full members it will be hard not to feel safe being surrounded by desert and huge warrior lions."

She sucked in a long breath and strengthened her posture further. "We must ensure that they do not take what we say and discard it. I know I would be tempted if I were them. But...if they underestimate them..." Roho shook her head. "No. We won't let that happen. We'll make sure of that."

(Ouch, hope you get good grades.)

Amara growled her own hackles rising though not as impressive without the mane to add bulk to the neck fur. “If I were easy prey then why the big show of power?” her voice was low and silky her black eyes leveled on him without flinching. Hearing laughter her ears turned to the sound but she did not move, having stopped in her walking to have her full attention to this new threat. Still as the new male came to her line of sight she was thrown off a bit. Were all the males in this pride red pelted just like these? If the male before had been a good sight, his son was better. Black stripes gave the eye a point to gaze at rather than endless red. Still he was red, but the black mane unlike his fathers, didn’t seem to blend into her attention of the fur.

Still she watched the new male carefully, not know if this was yet another big bad male. However as he smiled Amara relaxed and she smiled back as she was given a name. “Amara; and it seems rather not the lack of threat, but the lack of females ready to stand up for themselves.” She leveled a frown on Heti’s father. “Not everyone will swoon for a male with a big red pelt.” She flicked her tail tip. She was not sure what the father had wanted, for her to cower at his paws and ask for protection or if he simply wanted to bully her. Either way she hoped he learned something today.

Looking back to Heti she made to start walking again. “It’s nice to see there are some in your pride who talk and not stare or sneer.” She was getting tired of all the looks, but when she spoke them then it was only wary tiredness and nothing bitter in it.

Despite some awareness of everything that was going on behind him, particularly the conversation between Amara and Azar'bijan, Nawvlee kept his eyes and ears pointed at Kidondo and No. Though his combat training helped him maintain an awareness of his surroundings, his friendship with Jianjun and his position had prepared him well for social interactions as well.

"You won't be disappointed when we get the opportunity to present ourselves properly," he said proudly in response to Kidondo's compliment. It was fine to seem fierce, it was just a pity the state they were in would slow down their chance to prove it. On the positive side, it was an indication that they were being permitted to stay.

"I would like to stay with my companions until they are settled," Nawvlee added. He didn't really need to see exactly where they went or watch as they settled in but he wanted to. He would not walk away from them again until they were all agreeable about the results of their venture into the desert. He hardly expected confidence or trust so soon but this was the chance to see if expectations were met. He did care what they all thought, even though he would not be their leader much longer.
