__The Dragon Pokemon
Golly, I like this Random Pokemon Generator already. I think it's trying to tell me something. Dragonite is my favourite non-legendary pokemon, so hopefully I'll do it some justice. Dragonite's been here from the beginning, first generation. When I watch the first pokemon movie, I still giggle with glee seeing the Dragonite deliver Ash's invitation. Favourite of Lance in Heartgold and Soulsilver with three of the beasts on his team the first time you fight him, this pokemon is incredible. And cute too, if I do say so myself. So as usual, let's start by taking a look as his stats.
Statistics
HP: 91
Attack: 134
Defence: 95
Special Attack: 100
Special Defence: 100
Speed: 80
Look at that attack stat. Look at it! Undress it with your eyes if you must. That is a pretty sweet attack. Special attack and defence are pretty decent too. Dragonite is definitely a pokemon you want to use to hit hard, not stall with. The low speed is a bit deterring, as it means that faster pokemon, especially those with ice moves, can move in and take Dragonite out before it gets a chance to shine. Because of its dragon flying dual typing, Dragonite has a four times weakness to ice, and is also weak to dragon and rock type moves. Watch out for Stealth Rock. But Dragonite isn't affected by ground at all, which means no pesky Earthquake.
Weaknesses:
Ice – 4, Rock – 2, Dragon – 2
Resistances:
Fire – 0.5, Water – 0.5, Grass – 0.25, Fight – 0.5, Ground – 0, Bug – 0.5.
Abilities
I love Inner Focus. I just love it. Flinching makes me want to tear my hair out. I get hit by a move, my pokemon barely survives it aaand... flinch. Nothing. If the other guy is faster, my poke is toast. But with the magic of Inner Focus, flinch no more, my friends! Well, except if you use Focus Punch. Stupid Focus Punch. But that's a Gen IV only move now anyways.
The Dream World ability of Dragonite is Multiscale, which reduces damage of an attack by 50% if at full health. Which makes OHKOs a lot harder to do. Always a good thing. I also love this one, and am hoping to get my hands on one of these bad boys someday.
Moves
Dragonite used to be one of the big five, but has now fallen from those ranks. I think it's partly because his movepool was nerfed. He can learn all the HMs and a decent number of TMs. Thankfully if you train a Dragonite in Gen IV and Poketransfer it over it'll keep the Gen IV only moves, but it's still a hassle. Things like Focus Punch and Heat Wave are now Gen IV only, out of a total 23 moves.
But still, there is a fair amount of choice for a Dragonite, with many good moves.
Extremespeed is an egg move, another hassle to get, but very handy as a power 80 priority move, which can help make up for Dragonite's lackluster speed stat.
Roost will restores half its max HP.
Earthquake is devastating to many pokemon, and is a physical attack
Dragon Dance boosts up Dragonite's already impressive attack power.
Outrage is powerful and has STAB, though does make you confused.
Agility sharply boosts Speed.
Thunderbolt and Flamethrower are both powerful, but are special attack, so don't utilize Dragonite's fantastic attack.
Conclusion
So as you can see, Dragonite is a wonderful pokemon, that still manages to impress through the generations. It has a diverse movepool and rather good and adaptable stats, so is a worthy pokemon for any team. Though I'm a water leader, I might put a Multiscale Dragonite on my team with Surf or something in the future just so I can be have one of these guys all to myself.
