It was early in the afternoon before Melinda had finally set out on her bike ride. It was nice not to worry about schoolwork, or even classes for that matter. Just fresh breeze and sun as she pass through main street in route for the park. Since finals had started, she didn't have time to do anything but study. So being able to actually do something other then that was heaven right now.

Riding into the public park, Mel hums to herself as she gives a wave to a few people she knew from school. Pausing only for a moment as she reached down to fix her shoelaces on both her tennis shoes. Pulling her cellphone from her jean skirt, she flips it open to glance at the time.

Glancing around again, she lifts her hand to block the sun from her eyes as she looks for a good place to sit. With the sun just pass noon, she knew shading would be almost impossible. Though, there was no harm in looking.

Right?

It was definitely an nice break from studying to get outside and just have fun. And that was exactly what Chris was doing. He and some classmates had all gotten together to fool around while the weather was nice. There were frisbees being thrown, a soccer ball was being kicked around, and those with gloves had gathered together in the larger part of the field to play some baseball before it got too dark. It was nothing fancy, of course. Their bases consisted of whatever had been in their pockets. A pack of gum was first base, while second was a flashlight someone had brought from their car, third was someone's windbreaker they weren't using, and home was an extra frisbee.

"Everyone move in! Chris is up!"

Christopher laughed as he took the bat from one of the girls playing with them, shaking his head at them. It was true, though. He was just a pitcher. Nothing exciting about his batting at all. "Yeah yeah, just wait," he joked, doubting that he would manage to get more than a grounder. Had it been a real game, he probably wouldn't have hit at all, but just playing around like they were, it would be pretty sad if he didn't at least ground it.

On the first underhanded pitch, though, Chris was almost surprised when the bat made contact with the ball, sending it in a line drive between the first and second baseman. He dropped the bat to race to the pack of gum when he heard the second baseman saying, "Oh s**t, look out!"

He didn't see what had happened, but apparently there had been a passing biker he'd hit?? Oh jeez...

Forgetting the bases, he changed direction to run over to the fallen girl to see if she was okay. Well, crap...

Melinda didn't see the ball, until she actually heard the shout. It was enough to make her turn her head in time to see the baseball heading straight for her. Pushing the bike away, she hits the dirt with a thud just as the baseball smacks the front tire of her bike. With wide eyes, she looks towards her bike before she turns towards the voices not to fall away. There was no anger in her eyes, more shock then anything.

Shaking alittle, she glance down at her knee as it started to sting. She didn't realize that on her way down, she smacked her knee pretty hard against dirt, skinning it in the process. Pulling her knee up slowly, she winces only for a brief moment. That was gonna hurt for awhile, she just knew it. Only good thing was, nothing was broken.

Reaching over carefully, she picks up the ball that was a few inches from her. Looking it over, she tilts her head as she give a weak grin towards Chris, who happen to be running towards her "I hope that wasn't a home run. If it was, I am bloody sorry."

Chris slowed to a stop as he got over to the girl on the ground, a couple of his classmates making their way over as well. "It wasn't a home run at all. Don't worry about that. Jeez, I'm so sorry. I didn't even see you," he rambled, kneeling down next to the girl and the bike looking her over to make sure she was okay, only to wince when he saw her knee.

"Hey, get some ice and a first aid, okay? There's one in my bag," he called over to his buddies, watching as one went back to get just that, while the others either stood back to give the poor girl some room, or to mock Chris with a "nice hit" or "is that why you're a pitcher?" Real nice, guys.

"I'm Chris, by the way... Can you move your leg...?" he asked, really hoping she wasn't going to be suffering because of his bad hit. Talk about bad luck. All she was doing was riding her bike and then wham! Ugh... he was going to have long term guilt issues over this, he just knew it...

Melinda found herself chuckling as she shakes her head some "Well that should have been one then. Caught me off guard to say the least." carefully she moves her leg so its straight out in front of her. It stung a little, but nothing to bad to wear she wouldn't be able to walk.

"Melinda, and its nice to meet you in a rather strange but interesting way." she didn't blame any of them, as it was an honesty mistake. It's not like they did it on purpose just to get girls attentions.

"I think my leg will be okay. Nothing to serious." still holding onto the baseball, she holds it out to Chris "Here, maybe now that it got a girl, it will be lucky?" she was trying to lighten the mood some. No point in him beating himself up when she wasn't hurt to badly.

He still frowned as she laughed about it, unable to stop himself from worrying at least a little. He could have seriously hurt her just because he wasn't paying attention to where he was hitting. And yes, that was probably why he was a pitcher, rather than a batter. Pitching was much easier to control for him. He was the one who started out with the ball and tried to mess with other people when they were trying to hit... One would think he should be able to pick up on another pitcher's tendencies, but even if he did a little, he was always out before he could act on it.

"No kidding," he agreed, thinking he wouldn't be forgetting this incident any time soon. At least it didn't seem as though anything was broken, although he did wait for his friend to bring over the first aid kit and the ice.

Chris smiled lightly when she held the ball out to him, reaching to take it from her. "Thanks... and probably. I could use all the help I can get, apparently," he said, a comment that lead to others like 'yeah, he can't hit his way out of a paper bag' and 'you think we're going to let you hit again after that??' from the guys hanging around behind them. He shot a glare over his shoulder, which only made them laugh and go back to playing catch with home plate.

He took the ice when it was given to him, but dug through his bag, first, to pull out a towel he had, wrapping the ice up in it. "It's clean, I promise," he said, offering it to her to put on her knee while he dug through the bag again to find the first aid he had.

Placing the ice within a towel on her knee, Melinda glance towards all his other friend as she smirks. She couldn't help but feel bad for Chris with the way his friends are acting. With a shrugs, she eyes all his friends "The way I see it, he the lucky one. He did get the girl after all. It might have been his plan all along?" turning her head back towards Chris, she grins at him to show she was just trying to get them to back off. She knew he hadn't mean to get her, it was just bad luck.

Falling quiet, she watch Chris for a moment before she nods her head "Thank you, you really didn't have to go this. I could have easily went back home." not that she didn't mind getting taken care of by a cute guy. It just wasn't a common thing for her, with her being so busy.

Chris smiled when Melinda spoke up for him, glancing over his shoulder to see his friends either laughing at the unlikelihood of that happening on purpose or grumbling about how they already had girlfriends. And yeah, it was pretty bad luck, but at least she was okay, right...?

"Not a problem," he said, shaking his head at her. "It was my fault anyway. The least I can do is make sure you're all bandaged up." He paused for a moment, before adding, "I'm a certified lifeguard so I know how to do first aid basics, at least." He didn't want her thinking that he was just some guy who was going to slap on a bandage and send her on her way. He also knew basic sports medicine, but... that was a little different than cuts and bruises.

He opened the box when he found it, pulling out some clean cotton pads and antibacterial liquid to get it all cleaned up. "This might sting a little..." he warned, hoping she would be okay with it...

"Do you go to school around here?" he asked, figuring there was no point in just sitting around as he got her bandaged up.

With a small nod, Melinda closes her fist to brace herself on the possibility of the liquid stinging her skin. "Lifeguard huh? Okay, what don't you do?" it was meant to be a way of relaxing him as she leans back some. She could tell he was a jock, just from the amount of guys around playing baseball, and the way they picked on him. She seen that alot.

Frowning some, she looks down at her lap at the mention of school. Well crap, she didn't want to mention that. It seem the crystal girls had snobby reps. One it which she didn't have. Finally after a moment, she looks up at him "I go to Crystal Academy, I'll be a senior this upcoming school year. And before you ask, no I am not a snob. I got in on scholarship. Its one of the best schools for music, which is why I am there." this was one of those times, she actually wishes she went to Meadowview, but whatever.

Her life at Crystal wasn't all that bad.

Chris snorted lightly at her question, not thinking the mention of a lifeguard and suggestion of being a jock was enough to think he was some kind of wonderboy or whatever. "Just baseball," he started out with. "Never been that great at other sports. Didn't really feel the need to try and be better at other sports. I can't sing, I don't have a motorcycle," he threw in, grinning in amusement since... there were a lot of potentially 'badass' things he didn't have. "I'm horrible with board games — I avoid Monopoly at all costs. I don't read more than I have to. I'm better with my hands and being able to do things on my own..." See? He couldn't do everything, despite how it looked.

He glanced up at her for a moment, before laughing lightly, shaking his head. "I wasn't going to ask that," he said, hoping his amusement wasn't too obvious or too annoying. "I went to Azure Valley," he admitted, finishing up cleaning her scrape, before digging through the box to find some ointment to keep it from getting infected later on. Sure, he'd had his bad run in with Crystal girls before, but in the past few weeks, he'd met other girls from there who were... really not bad. They were actually rather nice and he enjoyed his time with them. "I didn't get there on scholarship, but by some miracle I got a scholarship from it. I go to DCU for baseball now," he explained, still surprised that he'd managed to get a scholarship when his high school team lost practically every game they'd ever played.

Melinda glance down at her leg, rather embarrassed that she just spoke rather bluntly like that. It wasn't like her to, but she also didn't like how instantly she was a snob for going to the school. With a small chuckle, she lifts her hand to brush her hair from her face "Azure Valley? Really? You don't look at all like a boy who would go to the school." she meant that in the nicest way she could put it, without sounding rude.

"Well, I suck at sport. I love watching them, but can't play them at all. I rather spend my time outside, then inside my dorm room. And I don't mind getting a tad dirty from bike rides, or simply hanging out at the park." wiggling her toes some, she tugs down her gold color halter some, before tugging on her jean skirt. Giving her toes a small wiggle, she leans back some. Her eyes glance towards his friends for a moment "So do they always give you a hard time?"
PostPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 10:54 am

He smiled at her, not wanting her to think she had any reason to be embarrassed. "You don't look like a Crystal girl," he said with a grin, hoping he wasn't going to insult her. Well, she'd made the comment about him and Azure, first, so he was going to assume it was okay. "I would have rather gone to Meadowview, but my parents wanted me in Azure, so that's where I went," he said with a small shrug.

Getting a bandage out was next, and he carefully pulled apart the package it was in so he could place it over her knee. "Sports aren't for everyone. But I understand wanting to be outside. I'd rather be in the park doing something than inside doing nothing." Although, there was nothing wrong with sitting back and watching a movie or TV show at night... He just didn't want to do it all the time.

Chris glanced over at his friends again with a small laugh, "Yeah, but it's okay. They're just jealous. They mean well, though." It didn't bother him, at least. Well, maybe when they were in the middle of doing it, but give him a few moments to chill and it was okay.

With a light chuckle, Melinda lifts her hands to brush her hair from her face "Tell me about it, I've actually been told by a few girls at the school I belong at Meadowview, just because I don't see a problem with the other schools." rolling her eyes, she shrugs before she looks towards his friends again.

Jealous huh? Hmmm...

Turning her attention back to Chris, she smirks some "The only time I ever want to be inside, is when it's raining. Even then, I don't mind the rain as long as its not a thunderstorm." even if she was from England, she hated storms with a passion.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 25, 2011 11:13 am

"I got teased for being so into sports instead of just science fair projects," he admitted, offering her a little smile of understanding. "It's okay though. I'm done with high school and happier for it," he said with a small laugh. "It'll be over soon enough, don't worry." It hadn't been all that great waiting for it to be over, but it did go by fast, looking back on it. He barely even realized that his first year of college was over...

"Oh? You don't like storms?" he wondered, not thinking there was anything wrong with that. He didn't mind storms, just as long as he wasn't out on the ocean or something like that. Definitely not while in a plane... "Well, I think you're all patched up..." he said, nodding to her knee. "Are you hurt anywhere else...?" he asked, figuring he should probably ask while he was at it.

Looking herself over for a moment, Melinda was happy to see that the rest of her body was okay. Looking up at Chris, she gives him a small shake of her head "I seem to be okay for the most part now. Thank you so very much." carefully, she stands up as she brushes her jean skirt off. Pushing her blond hair from her face, she grins at him once again "Please tell me there is a way I can repay you." she could have simply gone back to her cousin's house and got patched up.

Then again, she would have never met a handsome and sweet guy like Chris.
