The day was hot and humid but Searlait didn’t feel the least bit uncomfortable as she lay beneath her favorite tree, a contented smile painting her maw. A warm breeze blew the leaves and caused them to rustle softly as though they were singing along to the words of the wind. Releasing a sigh Searlait closed her eyes and rolled onto her side, her legs spread out and her neck elongated. Ahote had wandered off somewhere, likely on another adventure or meeting up with his family somewhere and though she missed her mate she knew he would return before she grew too lonely. The thought of her love caused a brighter smile to pull at the corners of her mouth. She had known him since they were both foals yet neither of them expected that they would ever be more than just friends. Both of them had a taste for adventure and imagination so it worked well. With a girlish giggle she tucked her chin a little further in and rubbed her cheek in the luscious grass. “Oh what a wonderful day.” She mused.

Her eyes were drawn to the sky as she observed, wondering if any little clouds would come to disturb her. None dotted the horizon and thus far she looked safe from the rain, she hated how her hair frizzed and got all matted when it rained. She remembered how her mother had laugh at her when she would throw a fit because of her hair. Good hygiene and appearance was no laughing matter to this mare, though she loved to play around in the thick forests and rivers she hated getting mud on her or getting her mane tangled. With that she lifted her head and shook out her brown locks, releasing any stray leaves that had hitched a ride. Even though she knew Ahote wouldn’t care what she looked like she still felt as though she should be impressive. She remembered her mother talking about how she would get fat if she and Ahote ever had children, the thought caused a shiver to run down her spine. Fat? Her? Never.

It was always awkward being the new foal on the plains, but those days had long past. The awkward feeling had not though, even if Argyris hid it so well that even one who knew him in and out wouldn’t be able to see it through his actions or even read it between the lines. It’d take belief to know what was really going on in his mind. Unfortunately he had no one who could claim to know him so well and actually be correct. Or maybe he did, and he just pretended he didn’t. Who knew at this point?

Argyris’ ear twitched as the breeze tickled past, but he merely swung his muzzle around to breathe in the fresh air, never able to get enough of it. Hooves moved through the almost dry grass, merely tinged by dew from the morning, not from rain, but it wouldn’t be unheard of for the rain to fall during this time of year, even if it was still quite rare. His almost bobbed-like tail also twitched in the breeze as he moved, glacier blue eyes glancing around the land with a somewhat dimmed bittersweet look. There was no expression of scorn or contempt in the bitter portion of that glance, just a hint of loneliness to his gaze. Sure he was fond of this land, but he still missed his own even if the last time he had been there was when he was just a yearling. It still stung to know he was no longer welcome there in his homeland and that he had been cursed before he was kicked out too. He did not know of the gods in this land that well, and he was more than fine to avoid any contact with them. He had already had one bad run in with one from his old land after all.

His head shook irritably at such thoughts while his gaze flicked to the side as he caught a scent, that of a mare, on the wind, and soon he found himself meandering toward her. Boredom filled his mind. The least he could do was find someone else who might be capable of easing it. “Good morning, kind lady~ Enjoying the cloudless skies this fine day?” Lame greeting, but at least it’d start a conversation if he was lucky.
