KAITO is a Japanese male Vocaloid created by Crypton Future Media. He utilizes the older Vocaloid engine developed by YAMAHA. He claims the spot of first male Japanese vocal release for Vocaloid and the last vocal to be released for the Vocaloid engine. The voice was supplied by a Japanese male singer Fuuga Naoto (風雅 なおと). The illustration was done by Takashi Kawasaki. The product's name was invited from the public, and "KAITO" was selected from among applicants, which was the idea of Shu-tP.

Kaito sold only 500 packages in the initial distribution and Crypton deemed it as a failure. Kaito's initial failure was one the main reasons why other male vocaloids have not been developed for a long time after his release. The male voicebanks had so little demand at that time. However, after Mikus release interest in Kaito arose and Kaito sold well enough to later claim the second best seller of the year in Nico Nico Market in 2008.

personality

With Kaito his initial personality kind of fits the stereotype of the lovable idiot. So, more or less, he's not the brightest crayon in the box but he can be rather sharp every now and then. He's a happy kind of a guy who's quick to smile and tries his best to always look on the brighter side of things; especially when it comes to the entertainment business.Because once upon a time ago Kaito had not been getting too much attention,he seems to be such a quiet and shy person and doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in himself. Kaito is also viewed as the older-brother figure of the VOCALOID group, but being the older brother doesn't really mean much to him. He seems to get the brunt end of everyone's beatings and abuse. Especially from Len and Rin, and Meiko.

There is no official relationship for any vocaloid. Depending on the video Kaito may be seen with a different girls/boys. however there are several reasons why Kaito and Miku are seen together so often:

1) originally kaito was released two years after meiko. however the public didn't like kaito at first so he was kind of left behind. It wasn't until miku sang a song calling out to kaito, that people began to pick up interest in him. kaito, in return, sang a song answering miku.

2) a lot of people feel that their voices harmonize extremely well.

3) some people think their colors look nice together smile
