You would think that with all of the rumors and whispers about terrible goings-on in the night time around the city, that someone wouldn’t go out alone at night.
You haven’t met Griffin Westwood. Griffin was walking back to her dorm at Sovereign Heights Preparatory around 1 a.m. or later. She had been at a party, and she was alone now, neither of which was unusual. Though young and trusting, Griffin wasn’t the type of girl to go home with a boy. But she also had that take on youth that says ‘I’m a teenager, I’m immortal! Nothing bad will happen to me!’ That usually held true for most kids her age, well, if they didn’t live in Destiny City, that is. When her home became a more dangerous place to live, Griffin was surprised her mother didn’t want to move, especially at the first whiff of ‘terrorist’, but Griffin was glad they’d stayed. Moving was never fun and her opinion was that once was enough. It was a cool night for springtime, but Griffin attributed that to the cloudless sky and the recent rain. And her skirt, but she’d brought a jacket and presently her fists were jammed into her pockets. It felt good to be outside, especially after being in a crowded, stuffy room, and especially for someone who loved the outdoors as much as Griffin. As she kicked at a pebble, she thought of how she should have brought her bike and gone on a scenic ride through the city at night, as she was already taking the pretties route back to her dorm. How lovely that would have been! But she seemed to forget it would be stupid, too. Griffin whistled as she walked. She knew the old wive’s tale about whistling at night while indoors attracts burglars, but outside at night was harmless, right? No. No, that’s just stupid, but she forgot that too. As she passed under a streetlamp in a park and then into the darkness between it and the next, she had no idea that she could have been being watched by more than one pair of eyes.

xxxxxCertainly eyes were watching Griffin that fateful night. Not just one pair, but two. Four yellow eyes blinked, captivated by the girl. It emerged from the bush it was hiding in, licking its lips. Soon that girl's starseed would belong to the youma.
xxxxxAs he stalked Griffin, a soft clip-clop noise could be heard, the sound of two hooves trotting quietly on the sidewalk. Surely, at first glance the youma would've looked like something straight out of The Chronicles of Narnia. He had two, LARGE furry legs, each with a hoof on either end. Horns topped his humanoid head that lay in juxtapose with each other on either end. They were pointed, too.
xxxxxHis burnt grey skin was probably the weirdest part. Strange ominous scars were strewn all over his back. Where they came from, no one really knew. He stopped for a moment as she kicked a pebble. Perhaps she had noticed him? No, she kept walking again, he was safe.
xxxxxThe soft hoof noise halted nonetheless, as his prey was close. Stopping for a moment, he sniffed the night air. It was full of the ruckus noise of teenagers having a party. He lifted his muscled arm over her head.
xxxxxThen he whacked her on the side. She went flying. How satisfying.

Though oblivious to the idea of danger occurring to her, Griffin prided herself on being aware of her surroundings. She didn't really register any "clip-clopping" of hooves as something following her, however. She didn't even turn her head in time to see what attacked her. The blow registered only as impact, no pain, until she landed on the ground a few feet away. What had just happened?! Her flight had been "broken" by some bushes, and she spit out a few leaves and felt blood begin to run down her legs. She went to wipe whatever debris or dirt was on her face, but only smeared blood on her cheek because she'd tried to break her fall with her hands.
Sizing up the... thing... She had no idea of what it could be. She'd seen rag mags at the checkout of grocery stores suggesting that the strange events could be monsters, but she didn't buy it. Well, Griffin supposed now she'd have to. But maybe she was just crazy. She rubbed her eyes and looked again at the apparition before her. Seriously. What was it!?
She tried to get to her feet, but once standing, had no idea what to do. She put up her fists like a boxer. Apparently when it came to fight or flight, she preferred the former. Then again... As it walked closer, the girl thought the second option was better.
Griffin took off running, or rather limping because her legs had taken quite a bit of damage from her impromptu fall into the bushes. She didn't know if she could outrun the hoofed beast, but here's to hoping!

It was a fact youma liked to be out and about at night. However, it was growing increasingly more obvious that way too many people still liked to be out late at night as well. Obviously all of those missing persons reports and "terrorist attacks" (which were not by terrorists at all) weren't enough to make the night life vanish.
So yet again, a Youma had managed to find a victim to chase. And yet again, as it turned out, said victim was apparently a senshi of the unawakened variety. So it was no wonder that when the girl started to run away from the hooved youma beast that all of a sudden the sound of a bell started to jingle nearby. In fact, if the girl looked to the side, she'd see a small tailless cat running along side with her. That in itself seemed pretty strange, unless one thought that the cat was also running away from the strange beast.
However, what was even stranger was the fact rather suddenly a voice was calling out from the side. "We need to find some place to hide you!" It came from the same side that the cat was running along, but there wasn't anybody there but the cat. How weird was that?

Griffin had been focused solely on getting to a building of some sort, but those near the park closed at a normal hour, especially for a weeknight, but when she heard a voice next to her, her attention was diverted and she began looking frantically around. A voice meant someone could help her! Especially if it was one giving such good advice!
But... The only other soul in the park besides her and the youma- if youma even had souls- was a little cat. Griffin dived into the bushes in the cat's direction, glad that this time she was choosing to get into them, and she scooped up the cat.
"Kitty! You shouldn't be out here, it's dangerous!" She whispered and pet the cat while holding her close. She didn't want to be left alone so she held onto the little rumpy, not noticing her star, probably she was still looking for whoever had called out to her.
She nervously watched the youma, and whimpered. "Now what?" Maybe she was talking to whoever had called to her, maybe to the cat, or maybe just herself. Griffin didn't really see much of a way out. The way she saw it, she was done for.

xxxxxThe youma was both angered and intrigued by the new presence in the area. It was interesting, because it scared the youma a bit, while also making him desire it. It was the same way with the girl. Scary, but the danger just made it more desirable.
xxxxxPerhaps the youma was a masochist?
xxxxxAs he chased the girl down, the minotaurs hooves made a loud clicking noise on the hard pavement. It was a combination of clicking and scraping, clicking and scraping. If anyone other than the girl had been around, they might have yelled at him, being so noisy and annoying. He panted a little from the exertion of running so quickly, but mostly out of frustration, not exhaustion. The rings that hung from his nose jingled lightly, which, combined with the cat's bell, made a sort of strange twinkling sound.
xxxxxThe youma watched as the girl dove into a bush, obviously scared from his presence, but a little bewildered by the strange voice as well. As if that could be a good hiding place. Leaves. As if that could really stop the beast. His eyes turned a bright red color as he prepared to charge. He stomped his foot a few times, as though a matador was standing in the bushes waving a red flag before him.
xxxxxThen, he bulldozed his way towards the bush.

********* WAS FLYING. SORT OF. Well, not really. She was scooped up and soon enough in the brunette's arms who already seemed to be quite protective of her.
The girl, however, chose a really bad hiding place. You didn't hide behind a bush that the youma chasing you could see. For a moment ********* managed to place a paw against her head. Fortunately, it was a pretty dense bush that actually went back quite a bit farther than expected. Even with a strong charge, it would still take a bit of work to get far. It would take more careful work to get further along.
"You need to crawl in further... it will be safer for now... follow me."
With that, the feline squirmed out of the girl's arm and began to show the way as best as she could. She was a smaller animal, but she tried to locate the largest gaps she could. The cat turned around and took a look behind her to make sure the girl was following.
"Hurry!"

Griffin's jaw dropped and her eyes widened at the cat. It just spoke to her. And it was definitely the same voice that called to her earlier. She would have liked to have stammered and sputtered and asked a million questions, but she knew now wasn't the time. "O-oohkay!" She peeked through the foliage back to the youma, and when she saw it charge, she scrambled after the little cat.
She threw a look over her shoulder and saw the beast had begun to charge. Oh my god! Griffin's life flashed before her eyes and she thought of her parents and friends, the things she hadn't done and even the chores left to do in her dorm room and the unfinished painting there too. Of course she didn't have that much time to go through 18 years of life and future plans. It was more of the umbrella concept of each thing. Sadness. Regret. Loss.
But she wasn't dead yet! Maybe if she listened to this cat, she'd pull through. She just wasn't sure how, yet.

xxxxxIt's a fact that once a bull charges, it has a hard time changing direction. Such was the poor case with this minotaur machine youma as he ran and ran and ran. Eventually, he reached his target, but the girl was already running away from that spot.
xxxxxSo the minotaur youma crashed into a bush, tripping himself, letting his axe clatter out of his hands. In anger, steam blew out of his giant nostrels, and his eyes turned bright red. It was like something straight out of a cartoon. Except there was one difference.
xxxxxThis was real.
xxxxxHeaving his axe, his stared at the blue jewel on top of it and then swung it around a bit. He cut a small tree in the area down. The small tree just crunched under the brute force and blade of the axe. Leaves were thrown everywhere.
xxxxxNow where had that girl gone?
xxxxxIn the distnace, the minotaur saw a flash of amber hair and immediately began to chase after it. His prized starseed wasn't getting away, cat or not.

The cat scampered forward quickly, seeming to look for something. Sounding like a busy person lost in thought, she occasionally commented mostly to herself.
"This won't do... not enough room for me to move..." She glanced back to the girl, then moved forward again. "If I didn't have a penny for every time I was in a situation like this and wasn't able to have enough room for jumping." Her eyes glanced up to the leafy "ceiling" above her.
"Okay... let me move on ahead a bit and see if I can get something ready for you!" The cat looked back to the girl, then wove through the bush in an effort to find more open space for her to be able to jump and produce a henshin pen.

Griffin watched the cat anxiously, her hand over her heart. It was racing at a mile a minute, and she glanced back in the direction of the monster... thing. She couldn't wrap her worried little mind around the concept of a talking cat or the monster at the moment, mainly because she didn't have the time to question them or much less get an answer.
"Uhm, is there anything I can, uh, do to help?" She furrowed her brows and offered the cat her assistance. Oh gosh this was just the weirdest thing ever.
The girl flinched when she heard the sounds of the monster. Looking like a kicked puppy or a wet kitten, she looked at the cat. "Please hurry!" Hearing the youma approach, she tried to follow the cat. Of course, she didn't fit between the bushes' boughs, so she just pressed herself against it, making herself as small as possible.

About five feet ahead, there was a clearing within the bushes large enough height-wise for a restricted kitty backflip. With the simple cry of "FINALLY," she then crouched down for a moment before springing up for a relatively low-to-the-ground flip. In the spot she jumped over during her acrobatics, two objects clattered down out of seemingly nowhere.
Making haste, she snatched up the more important of the objects and began to make her way back to the girl who looked almost as if she wanted to cry.
"Don't be afraid! What you can do to help is to take this, then shout out with as much feeling as possible 'Maenalus Power Make-up!'" With that, the feline ran back in the direction she had just come from, leaving the girl to sort out how ridiculous this task was or not.

Griffin watched as the cat flipped and the objects that seemed to fall out of the sky. Oh what was happening!? She took the thing from her, and looked at it. Well... It looked like a pen. She tried to click it and see if that worked, but then she stood and took in a deep breath. "Maenalus Power Make-up."
...
Nothing. Oh yeah, she had to really mean it. And shout it, not mutter with uncertainty. Taking in an even bigger breath, she held it over her head and shouted "Maenalus Power Make-up!" And then something changed... Her dress was replaced with a white bodice and her flats with knee-high boots with staggering heels. Next was a skirt and a scout collar, and in the midst of all of this, it all seemed so natural. It felt like a second skin, and when a pair of gloves and a bow manifested themselves, that just seemed normal too. As though she'd done it before. And the tiara? Felt like it'd been there forever.
Until she had a moment to take it all in. But that moment would have to be later, there was a monster afoot!
"Now what!?" She looked around frantically for the little cat and clung tight to her pen.

The manx trotted back with the senshi phone in her mouth and managed to catch the last bit of the transformation. It must have sucked to transform in such a confined space. It actually looked a bit uncomfortable to the feline. Setting the phone down, she mentioned "This is yours too!" With a paw, she nudged it in the senshi's direction.
Since Maenalus had asked, ********* gave her the most basic response for the question. "Now you confront the youma!" The cat scampered up close, then rather suddenly hopped up to the girl's stooping shoulder, clumsily claiming a place there.
"Get up close to it, then call out 'Maenalus Mountain Rumble!' You will know what to do from there!" Since ********* knew what the attack did, she figured being perched on the senshi of mountains' shoulders was the best solution. In an encouraging tone, she pointed out "If you go forward a little bit, there is actually an opening to the side you can get out of." Maenalus now have a Cat GPS.

Where had the pretty starseed gone! The youma had chased Griffin around a few trees, but had lost sight of the girl. Little did the youma know that the girl was literally 10 feet away from it. A giant bush obscured his view from the girl.
Then the girl started screaming and the youma knew exactly where she was. Exactly where his pretty starseed was waiting.
With a weird sort of cow screech the youma headed straight for the bushes where the girl was hiding. He picked up his giant axe and slashed at the leaves, making a great mess of things. In the morning, when some passbyers walked by, they would probably what the hell the park keeper was doing with the bushes.
The youma then dove in and grabbed whatever he could. Unfortunately, what he grabbed was the hind leg of a certain manx cat. Caught off guard, the youma wiggled the cat in the air, curious as to what it was and what it could do. He wasn't really trying to hurt the cat, he was purely curious what it was. At least for moment. He would smashed it later.
Soon, the pretty starseed would be all his. Forever and ever.
