The thought to bling out her senshi phone had crossed Marcella's mind, but she was not fully sure that it had a particular brand that any of the premade cases started. Even though having dropped it off her roof once already had made getting something protective for it seem all the better an idea. Although on the other hand, it might be just like her seifuku, which managed not to retain any of the tears or stains she managed to put in the pure white fabric.
She was actually a little afraid to see if her senshi phone was okay; what if it wasn't? To what store could she take a supernatural terrorist phone for repairs?
Either way, her actual cell had suddenly started to look extremely boring. Or the old case rather bored Marcella. Something about the crack she had put into it dropping that one, too. It was like cell phones were almost made to be dropped or something. She had to wonder why they did not just make the outsides tougher to begin with.
But a trip to the gadget store quickly taught her why: why make the phone tough when they could make you buy an extra piece to reinforce it?
There was a new line of designer ones with pretentious line designs all over them, though, in different colors, and it was impossible for Marcella to be too angry at the idea of shopping. Tapping her cell to her lips, she contemplated the various designs - flowers? Different flowers? Concentric circles? Lines?

As of today, Darryl Spencer was 15 years old.
This was a huge ******** deal, obviously - she had gotten some money as a gift from some of the nurses at school, and was planning to spend it on a gameboy cartridge when she happened to pass by the cellphone aile of the mail.
And there was this girl, looking at all these fancy a** cellphone covers. A typical mistake, really. "Oh, hey." Darryl being Darryl - she walked up to Marcella. "Yeah, these are pretty, but one of my teachers owned one of these - they split open when you drop them. I wouldn't recommend."
Would she listen ? Darryl had no damn idea. But hey, at least she'd warned her. "Unless you like to buy an overpriced piece of plastic to basically do nothing to protect your phone, that is."

"Oh, really?" the older girl replied, stepping back and turning to get a look at the younger stranger. Younger and quite tech savvy, apparently. Or, at the very least, had experience in dropping phones.
"which ones do you like?" Marcella asked, taking her phone from her purse and holding it up so the stranger could get a look at it. Only the part of the case for the front part of the sliding phone remained on it; it was pale blue, with white on one corner where it had gotten scuffed. "Back part fell off the last time I dropped it." She turned the phone around in her fingers to show the girl.
"Not one of these brands, though. The old case actually worked pretty well, but I didn't see any more new ones here." She glanced around the store again, then narrowed her eyes slightly. "Of course, this phone is almost six months old. I might have to look on the internet for a case for an antique like this. Do you, ah, any case recommendations, though?"
Marcella expected an answer like, "look on the internet", which was part of why she had not bothered trying to attract the attention of any of the salespeople yet. But if the stranger was both knowledgeable and not employed here, there might be at least a chance for some real help.

"Hmmmm..."
If that phone was considered antique, than her phone must have been a dinosaur. Old and covered in duct tape, but her faithful little flip-phone kept on going and going like the energizer bunny.
She tilted her head a bit, giving the phone a long look, as if she was calculating sizes in her head. "Ah ! I think... Yeah, just follow me ?"
She let Marcella to the other side, then took one of the cases. "There's this. They might look a bit too small, but you see this strap in here ?" She held the case open for the older girl to look. "You just take a x-acto knife and cut that off. I think the fit might be a little tight at first, but since this one's leather it will stretch."
Well. Faux-leather. Darryl certainly didn't worry about that. And it was cheaper than the useless plastic thingies, to boot !

Marcella followed the girl, and listened to the little trick she offered with a nod. Then she looked back to the selection of leather ones, nudging the front few blister packs aside to see if it came in any other colors. Looked like just black, black, and black. But that was okay, because it was leather, she supposed. Never went out of style.
"Thank you," she said appreciatively, smiling back to the girl. "I was afraid if I asked someone here for a hand, they would try to get me to walk out with a whole new phone. This looks like it'll help pad the phone a little, at least, and I guess scuffed leather only looks more rugged." She laughed; Marcella's crochet purse, heeled and open-toed shoes, and array of necklaces hardly made the girl herself look rugged.
"My name is Marcella, by the way," she offered, switching the plastic case containing the phone holder to her other hand so that she could offer her right one to shake. Then, tilting her head slightly, she asked, "Do you work here?" her tone indicating her doubt.

If Marcella was the lady, then Darryl was definitively the tramp - rugged suited her just fine. Her pants were faded and worn, with holes on the knees that revealed one band aid on her left. Her t-shirt didn't look much better, and army boots certainly weren't the latest fashion.
"They probably would have. That's just silly, right ? Why replace something that work just fine ?" People, sometimes. Tsk tsk. Darryl shrugged. Their loss !
"Aha, no, I don't, I was just passing through." She offered her own hand in return. "I don't especially like people getting ripped off, through. Name's Darryl."

The older girl nodded, smiling appreciatively. She saw no shame in taking advice from someone younger than her, especially since it had gotten the desired result.
"I appreciate it," she replied as she shook the other girl's hand. "Are you really tech savvy? I know enough about my own phone, but I'm not sure I would quite know what to look for if I needed a newer one." Marcella glanced around the store. "Seems like there are new things every day, too. I'm just waiting for the day we can get chips planted directly into our brains." She laughed. "Wouldn't have to worry about dropping those, at least."

"Well, you could say that ! I try to keep myself more or less up to date with things, but like you said, there's new stuff everyday."
Perhaps she should also magically be around when Marcella would need a new phone ? Ahaha, if only life worked that way !
"I dunno, pretty sure I managed to drop my head once or twice ! Imagine falling off a bike and your mental chips going apeshit !" Falling off bikes... skateboards... stairs... hell, buildings.... was common when one was named Darryl.

Marcella's curls bobbed as she nodded. "True, I mean, I think humankind will find a way to break whatever electronics we develop." Then, contemplatively, she added, "I'm working to become a doctor, though, so I may end up having to learn how to fix brain-phones someday."
A few seconds more thought, and the girl grimaced a little. "I guess that could be hard to get used to. Although I suppose the phone companies might end up training their own surgeons for installation. That's kind of a scary thought, too, though."
The brown-haired girl started to step towards the checkout register, but motioned for Darryl to come with her if she wanted. "This is all I need from here, though. Do you have any other shopping to do today?"

"A doctor ?" Darryl asked, her curiosity properly piqued now. "I hear that's a lot of work... What grade are you in ?" Past high school for sure, but she couldn't tell how old Marcella would be. Darryl had never been the best with ages.
"I like technology and all, but im not sure if I like the idea of a chip in my brain." She waited for Marcella to pay, both hands in the pocket of her very-abused pants. It wasn't like she could ever afford something like that, anyway. Ha ! So silly.
"I was going to the video game store." Darryl saw no need to mention it was her birthday - she rarely did. What was the point ? Hell, she wasn't even sure Erika knew today was her birthday, and Erika was the closest thing to a friend that Darryl had. "Just hanging around, mostly."

"I just finished up my first year at Sovereign Heights," Marcella replied, with a touch of pride. "And it is a lot of work, but I figure if that was a reason not to do it, then we wouldn't have as many doctors. And goodness knows we need them, especially here in Destiny City."
She waited in line for a moment, but fortunately the store was not crowded and her turn came up after a minute or so. As she stepped up to the counter, she glanced back to Darryl and laughed slightly as she told her, "I guess I would only want a brain-chip phone if I could still turn it off."
Once the phone case was hers, Marcella rejoined Darryl and headed back out into the mall with her. "I'm not really into video games, but...." The brown-haired girl trailed off momentarily, thinking of someone she knew who did. "I have a friend who is more into them, and so I guess I can join you. Maybe you can tell me which ones or good, so I know the next time he has a birthday, because otherwise, I would not have any idea at all what to get him."

"Yeah, you have a point." Especially with Destiny City. In between terrorists and strange coma sicknesses, they needed all the doctors they could probably get. At least Marcella certainly wouldn't have an hard time finding work ?
"Im not too sure what I want to do yet." But she had plenlty of time to think about it. She was only 15, after all !
Darryl waited as the new case was paid for, then nodded when Marcella came back to her. "Sure, I don't mind. I don't know a whole lot about the recent games, but I can tell you what series I know." And so, she started walking out of the shop. "Do you know what kind of games your friend prefer ?"

Marcella worked her wallet back into her purse as she and her new-found shopping partner stepped out of the store, then, after giving the new phone case another once-over, stowed that in the large bag as well and tugged the zipper closed again.
"It's fine not to know what you want to do," she replied. "My parents' friends keep telling me not to be so dead set on being a doctor already, but it's always felt right to me, I guess. And I like to think I still have time to change my mind, even though I don't think I want to." The older girl frowned. "So really, I'm the weird one."
She glanced back at Darryl and laughed a little on the subject of video games. "Oh, I'm not really sure yet what exactly he likes. Violent stuff, probably, or those ones where he can get in trouble and then run away from the police." A pause. "... That's probably a lot of video games, though, isn't it."

"Oh, I know. Im not worrying too much about it." Darryl shrugged. It would come with time, she suspected. She shoved her hands in the pocket of her ratty jeans and followed Marcella along, still very much looking like the tramp to the other girl's lady.
"That is... well, a lot of them." She laughed. "At least it won't be too hard to figure something out ?"

Actually while her purse was open.... Marcella opened it again and dug around inside, coming up after a moment with a tube of lip gloss. She nodded to Darryl as she put some on, then tossed it back into the depths of her middling-to-large sized handbag. Maybe huge bags were a trend, but the brown-haired girl just found she had quite a bit of stuff to carry around. On the other hand, maybe she had a lot of stuff to carry because she had a big purse....
Video games were indeed out of her realm of expertise, and she abruptly became the one feeling slightly out of place as they crossed the threshold into the Game Crossing store. Stepping around a cardboard standup of a man in body armor and a gas mask (or Marcella assumed it was a man, since she saw no exposed cleavage on the figure), and surveyed the walls of game boxes, her lips slightly parted as she took all the titles in.
"Where are you going to school?" she inquired, wanting to ask Darryl something else friendly before getting to the whole "oh god I have no idea what any of this is" part.
