Coming from a place such as Heaven, one would automatically assume that Gabriella was used to blinding lights. That she would be able to focus entirely when something bright was shining right at her, and it would have no effect on her vision whatsoever. However true it may be that the angel was used to bright lights, it was false to assume other lights would not blind her. Such as now, as she began to open her eyes to the new day -- only to be blinded by the bright light hanging from the ceiling. Her sleepy eyes opened slowly, only to close again in order to block out the terribly painful luminosity that was shining in her face. One hand even went up in attempt to block her view from it, but it seemed to be a failure as the light was far too bright. Well, if there was one way to wake a person up, this would be a good one.

"Nnnn..." A low groan came from Gabriella's throat, one filled with dissatisfaction and disappointment at the rude awakening present she had received from the ceiling. Bringing herself to sit up, the angel rubbed at her eyes with balled fists for a few seconds in attempt to clear the sleep from them. Once finished, her arms fell back into her lap as if they had lost all the life in them; falling limp in place while she was left to look around. Her brown eyes took the time to scan the room -- taking in its features as much as she could with slightly blurred vision. This was a place... she did not remember falling asleep in. Nevertheless, a place she did not recognize even the slightest. Had she blacked out and somehow ended up here? No... No, Gabriella specifically remembered going into her own room up in Heaven and falling asleep there. Wait... was she still even in Heaven!? Blinking a few times, Gabi continued to glance around the room, her memory attempting to recall just what had happened the night before. The angel was not a partying type person; she did not go out and have fun as most people on Earth would. Actually, none of the angels would. But even still, how was it that she was unable to remember getting in this spot? Taking in a deep breath, Gabi reached up to run a hand through her messy blonde hair. Well, even though she had absolutely no recollection of arriving in this room, she might as well figure out just where she was. So, with that, the angel stood and began to leave the bedroom -- oblivious to whether or not someone was sharing the room alongside her.

Opening the bedroom door and stepping outside, Gabriella was cautious and curious to look both ways down the hallway before fully exiting the room. She lightly shut the door behind her, then began to pad her barefooted self down the hall in order to find some sort of life within the building. And still, the entire place was unfamiliar.
"Hello?" she called lightly as dark brown eyes scanned everything around her. And still, there was no sign of a single soul. "I-iiiiis anybody hereeee?" Glancing behind her, Gabriella allowed a low sigh to escape her throat. "Well, since I'm alone... might as well keep myself entertained." And with that came the light humming for her journey.

[] Ah... it's open-ended for anyone who might want to run into her. And pretty terrible. I promise my posts are never like this. xD
And sorry this took a while... late nights at work >.< []

The day had started out just the same as any other. Rykes had awoken to do the same thing he did every day, but there was something more in store for him instead of the usual routine for the morning. Something that would be a greater gain for him. But that was all soon to come.

Rykes remained near the group within their shelter; he had been resting away from the others in a small indentation within their burrow -- one he had claimed as his bed for some time now -- but had not fallen asleep. No, his eyes were closed and his body was still, but his mind was still much in tact with his current awake state. He listened to his surroundings; felt the ground rumble beneath his toes when creatures walked among the surface above and around their tunnels. Of course, not only was he relaxing, he was also keeping his ear out for those around him. [Raski] was not too far off from where Rykes currently was, and soon [Cheza] was joining. Rykes remained still, keeping his eyes shut to make it seem as if he were sleeping as if there was a real reason for it. And from there, he listened. Well, he eavesdropped. "Lesedi is missing... I tried to find her last night, I looked all over the territory and even left the territory, she's nowhere... She didn't show up this morning either, I don't think she will be coming back."

The words, needless to say, had gotten a reaction out of Rykes. Dark eyes opened and blinked a few times before they turned in the direction of the other meerkats that were nearby. He studied them for a long moment, seeming to consider what had just been said. Lesedi, their alpha female, was missing? Had she run off? Or been killed? Surely if she had run off, there must have been good reason to do so. And surely if she had been killed, it was because something had gone wrong. Perhaps the one who ruled at her side was not doing what they were supposed to be doing. It was an irrational way to blame someone, but by now, Rykes had already blamed the current alpha male for so much. The loss of his siblings and mother had been due to the alpha being lazy. Being inconsiderate. Not doing his job. And Rykes... well, Rykes was not a happy camper with Axel at the moment. Too many deaths were being had. Too many for Rykes to handle. And now, the mobster came to the decision that he would have a nice word with the alpha male. That he would get his point across about how he felt and how much he despised Axel. It wasn't until now that everything was finally bringing him to the edge... was finally making him confront the alpha for the final time.

The mobster brought himself to stand, stretching his body out some by extending his back legs to where his back was stretched out. Once it felt comfortable enough, he began his journey through the tunnels. It remained slow and steady, as if he were not trying to alarm those around him by scurrying quicker than usual. He wanted no one to follow... this was something that Rykes had to do on his own. Something he needed to take care of. Of course, he only expected to have a few aggressive words with the male, but little did he know that one thing would come to another, and he would lose his mind. Turn after turn after turn, and eventually Rykes brought himself to where the alpha male was at in his secluded burrow within the tunnels. The mobster stopped dead in his tracks, dark eyes narrowing some as he stared the alpha down. Axel remained still, but it didn't take long for the feeling of gazing eyes to awake him from his slumber. Dark eyes opened to return the stare, and Axel slowly brought himself to stand. Their sights never broke, and the two seemed to be silently challenging one another.

Really, Rykes had only planned to come and exchange words. To tell the alpha how he felt. To call him out on lazy duties or something of the sort. But it seemed as if he were at a loss of those words. As if everything he wanted to say, everything he intended to do, was gone. And now all they had right before them were challenging eyes and tensed nerves. It had always been clear that Rykes was not too fond of his alpha. Lesedi never deserved to die, or to be run off, or whatever happened to her! What had Axel done to cause such a thing? To run his so-called 'mate' off or whatever it was? He was a bad leader... at least that's how Rykes saw it. And the mobster seemed to be going about this all the wrong ways. Yet, at this point, there was no turning back. He had challenged Axel now... and the only thing he could do about it was either kill or be killed. Or just beat in a fight and tell Axel to run. Run away and never return. Hah.

Daggers flew across the room from narrowed eyes. Rykes pulled his lips up some, showing his teeth as a hissing noise came from his throat. His tail stood erect, and his fur seemed to bristle at the aggressive posture he was making. What was he doing?! Was he really challenging the alpha? Yes... that was exactly what he was doing. Rykes had become far too fed up with Axel's actions that he... well, he had to step in and do something about it. But of course, Axel was not going to give up so easily. The alpha lunged at Rykes, and a scuffle was made. Biting, scratching, kicking, hitting. All sorts of swings and attacks had been done. Yet, with such small animals that were enclosed in a place like this tunnel, the fight was bound to end as quickly as it began. And within minutes, the two separated -- only to go at it again. It had happened quite a few times by the time it was over. Both males were injured, breathing heavy, and tired. Axel had many wounds on him, some deeper than others. And Rykes had many as well, though he kept his composure and stood tall. He hissed once more, his eyes narrowing at the fallen alpha.

"Leave, Axel. This rank is no longer yours, as you are not worthy to call yourself an alpha of our mob. I don't ever want to see your tail around here again, understand?" The words were aggressive, and Axel seemed reluctant to leave... but when Rykes gave a slight lunge forward and hissed once more, the fallen alpha scurried out of the tunnels; leaving his mob to the new alpha.

Rykes held his head high, his tail standing erect as he made a light calling noise throughout the tunnels to the others. It told them of his victory, whether they knew about the fight now or not. Surely others were bound to gather during the scuffle, but regardless, Rykes made it clear who was to lead this band from now on. The new found alpha was to show his dominance, and he was to improve what was happening within his home. The meerkats of this mob would no longer be lazy, and he would make sure that everyone was in their place and did their part without even the smallest bit of slacking.

Hail the new alpha male of the Zuande Meerkats.

It seemed Madison took after Dakota in more than just her looks. Sure, the blonde-hair-blue-eye girl was a spitting image of Dakota but with feminine features, but that was only half of the reason people knew they were related. The other half was because she acted just like him. She acted on impulse a lot; often got aggressive and just did what her instincts told her. She was also independent [well, as independent as a child could be] and she sure did what she wanted to do. The girl never took 'no' as an answer, no matter what it was to. Madison got what Madison wanted, and that was just how Dakota was. So, as said, there were other reasons they were just alike aside from the spitting image of one another.

The fact that the small girl grew angry didn't surprise the alpha male. His blue eyes looked down to hers, noticing she dodged the kiss he had attempted. Oh, boy... here it came. With age, Dakota had learned to control his anger. He'd learned to let things go easier and keep his cool. But as a child, he could admit he was just as bad as Madison was. Something wasn't going her way, and she was going to make it known that she was unhappy. "I know, babydoll. But today isn't a good day to go out, alright? Maybe tomo--" he began, but was cut off. Madison claimed he never took her anywhere; which was partially true. Dakota was too frightened to take her outside the den walls. Too afraid that someone from the opposing pack - or a rogue lycan - would snatch her up and take her hostage or something. Oh, how he dreaded the day that the north pack would try to take his little girl. What Dakota had done in the past to that pack was terrible; but he knew that one specific lycan was running on vengeance, and that it would only be a matter of time before something happened.

As soon as his daughter left the kitchen, Dakota sighed heavily and reached up to run a hand down his face. "Christ... there is no pleasing that child," he said before reaching down to take another bite of his bagel. There was no use in following her. He only assumed she was going to run up to her room to pout, and Dakota was planning on giving her a bit of time to cool off before he went to talk to her. Though, if he had any idea that his daughter was planning on running out to go swimming on her own... well, he surely would have followed her then. But, no, he had no idea of the intentions the blonde girl held. Yet, once Dakota found out... he would surely be far more fumed than Madison could ever get.
