He had told Toki to trust him with the flowers and he'd meant it, refusing to let her know when he was planning on going to shop for them or what florist he'd had in mind least she get it in her mind to show up on the same day that he was going. He knew that they were all likely to be busy given the number of schools in Destiny City that would be attending the same formal occasion and that it didn't really give him much time to get things right, given how late he'd actually waited to ask anyone to begin with. It would be worth paying the extra, though, to make sure that everything was perfect and on time... Just to see the look on her face, if nothing else.
Rik ran his fingers back through his hair as he slid into the only shop in town he'd ever bother getting floral arrangements from; the very best, as far as he was concerned. He knew he would find something worth paying for here and if they didn't have what he was looking for they'd know just who to order from to get it there for him. They had never let him down... It was time for the browsing to begin.
He hadn't really mentioned flowers to Addie, wasn't sure she'd want any actually, but -he- wasn't going to go to prom without some sort of decoration in his tux. He at least knew what colors their stuff was going to be, she had great taste in dresses at least, so he could go from there. Probably white would be best since he doubted he was going to find anything else that would go with black and teal unless he wanted to go fake and that was so not happening. Fake flowers for prom was like making your own dress. You just didn't go there unless you wanted to end up on some website somwhere that hundreds of people could laugh at you.
So he'd wandered into a store that wasn't far from his usual shopping grounds. Since they were in the area they had to be good and they hadn't disapointed. Half the store was covered in various prom things from corsages to bouquest set up in the school's colors to the usual variety of roses to surprise that special someone with. He was so not buying Addie a dozen roses. She'd either get the wrong idea or deck him ... or worse.
For all that it was tempting to get Toki a bouquet of some sort just to stun her, he was rather clear how impractical it would be to bring that many flowers along to prom. He could, on the other hand, order a bouquet to be delivered that morning while she was getting ready with some sort of little card to tack on letting her know that wasn't all she could expect while picking out a corsage and a matching boutonniere for the prom itself.
He glanced up from the arrangement book he'd been flipping through just as the door opened, brow quirking slightly at the boy who'd walked through. Ah, the wonders of prom time... It brought in all sorts.
Right, So white flowers for him and maybe something for Addie ... something that woulnd't wilt or get squished easily. Which was going to be practically impossible to find but he was going to find it anyway. Smiling brightly at the lady behind the counter he wandered down one isle full of refrigiated cases full of corsages. They had the usual colors, and some odd ones, and thankfully nothing gaudy. He might, no would have, walked out if there had been anything gaudy in the cases.
For the moment though he wasn't really paying attention to anything else. He figured most of the kids probably went to places near their houses or where ever their parents took them. Most kids wouldn't come out here for another few hours.
He closed the book for the moment under the guise of wanting to look about a bit more, fingers running lightly back through his hair as he headed for the row the other boy was currently in. "Did you have something particular in mind or were you just browsing for ideas? I got a bit of a late start on things myself, but I think I've managed to narrow it down." He smirked. "You?"
He looked up when he heard someone talking to him, figuring at first it was an employe, and was happily ready to tell them (unless they were cute) that he could brows on his own thanks. He hadn't expected to see someone who obvisouly didn't work for the shop. "I know what i want. I just have to find it. Though i might make an exception ... depending on the situation"
"Mm... Is that so?" His arms crossed over his chest, brow lofting while his smirk remained firmly in place. "Certain situations do indeed call for certain types of exceptions. Flowers, though... They're tricky. The right or wrong ones can often make or break a situation." His eyes drifted from the other boy to a nearby vase, arms uncrossing so that he could reach for one of the tiger striped red roses. He lifted it gingerly by the stem, bringing it up so that he could inhale its gentle scent before offering it to the other boy.
"Funeral? Anniversary? Prom?"
"I'm a highschooler in a flowershop this time of year. What else would it be?" He smirked as he shifted back so he could look at the other better. "The flowers themselves aren't tricky. It's the color and arangement that are"
"Nah. Those things aren't even all that tricky if you've got an eye for color... Or if you've taken even the most basic of art classes." He smirked, still holding the flower out to the other boy. "What colors are you trying to match, then? I lucked out this year; the lovely lady who agreed to go with me picked silver."
"The colors we're doing i'm not going to find a match for in a flower shop so i'm going with white. Basic and simple and goes with everything." He had a prefect eye for color and knew everything else here would just clash with Addie's dress. Or it would be way more than he'd be willing to fork out for flowers for prom.
"Dare I ask what colors you're going for?" His brow quirked as he glanced the other over, trying to figure out just what would clash with everything that wouldn't, somehow, clash with the other boy's unique hair.
"Her dress is black and teal, a dark shade." Which oddly enough went well with his hair. It wasn't something he'd normaly have thought of but after his rather ... unique run in with a talking kitten he found out that it did go quite nicely.
"Could always go with an off white rose... Ribbon in a matching color along with some tinted baby's breath? Because I'm more than certain your standards are a bit higher than a dyed carnation." He set the rose he'd been holding down, turning to head back to the book on the counter he'd been flipping through. "I wasn't planning on sparing any expenses myself."
His standards were higher than most things in the city which got him nowhere most of the time. One day he'd learn, maybe. Either that or he'd just move somewhere else that had better access to fashion.
"Should be careful spending too much. So many people just agree to go to prom with someone to get the expencive stuff out of them before dumping them a few days later." He grinned. "Not that -i'd- ever do that to someone, but sadly you're not going to prom with me"
"You weren't around when I was trying to decide who to ask." He laughed as he turned to glance back at the other boy, holding his hand out to him. "Rikard Colby. My friends call me Rik, unless they're on the sports team in which case they can't seem to manage anything other than my last name." He was smirking as he said that, the look seeming so natural on his lips.
"As for who I'm bringing? All she's letting me pay for are the tickets and the flowers, so the least I can do for the damsel is make sure she's got flowers to match the beautiful dress she's picked out, not to mention my tux."
"Lysander." He slid his hand into the others with a slightly raised brow. His friends called him too many things to start going on about which one was the most popular. Though it was proably his golf nickname since he got called that on a regular basis by the guys on the team.
"SOunds like she doesn't really want a cute boy to take her to prom. Which is a pitty"
"I think her problem is that she doesn't know what she wants and I happened to catch her off-guard in asking." He laughed, giving the other's hand a light squeeze as he shook it before releasing it. "I thought it might help her loosen up a bit. She's too tense and I'm a firm believer that, deep down, every girl wants someone to parade them around prom, even if they won't admit it... Why not bring one who looks lovely and show her a good time?"
He laughed at that. "Might be fun. Not the sort of girl i'm going to prom with though." His laugh turned into a smirk as he looked back at Rikard. "Too bad you have a date already or i'd be tempted to ask if you wanted my other arm ... since the one already taken was taken almost by force"
"Don't tell me you're the sort of boy who's incomplete without a piece of candy hanging off of each arm." He snorted softly, shaking his head slowly as he headed back towards the counter. "Mm... Not me. Wouldn't be fair at all to Toki if I brought someone else along with me. Wouldn't be fair to your other date either if I managed to take up too much of your attention... If she had enough nerve to take you by force," Something that must have been a tough feat, "I doubt she'd enjoy anyone else encroaching on her territory, don't you?"
"Not incomplete but it's so much nicer." He grinned. "Twice the fun." Not that he'd managed it more than once and that was only because he'd gotten stuck between two people who were also seeing each other. He'd gotten out of that one quick enough. "Not sure about encroaching on her territory. She might like it without knowing she likes it. You -are- good looking."
"I almost get the feeling I should be blushing." He met the other boy's grin with a smirk as he leaned against the counter, flipping the book back open to the page he'd been on before the other had walked in, bringing a hand up to summon the florist over so that he could place his order, trying not to think too hard on just how -wrong- it would be to even ponder such a thing... Nevermind that Toki would kick his a**.
Not that it was ever anything less than fun whenever she tried...
"You don't really seem like the blushing type." He dmet a few guys that were and they were way less fun than one would think. He'd take the ones that knew what they were talking about over the blushers any day. "Though the offers still open ifyou change your mind." He laughed before turning back to look at the flowers he'd been eying eariler
Once he'd gotten his order squared away he glanced back over his shoulder. He then turned back once more, snatching one of the cards from the counter so that he could flip it over to scribble his number on it. That done he made his way over to the other boy, tucking the card into whichever one of Lysander's pockets would have been the easiest to reach. "If you get bored waiting... Text me. Maybe you'll save a dance for me."
He almost jumped when he felt someone stick something in his pocket and looked over. He hadn't expected Rik to be that bold but grinned anyway. "I'll make sur enot to loose the card or the number." He could program it into his phone later. Probably under something tha thad nothing to do with Rik's name and everything to do with flowers. His phone owuld be a nightmare to anyone who didn't live in his world of random names for random people. "I might just depending on how quick Addie's heels kill her"
"Until then." He gave the other a bit of a mock salute; something he'd gotten a bit too used to doing as of late under completely different circumstances. From there it would be far too easy to turn around and slip out of the flower shop. It was time for a milkshake... And maybe a burger; something celebratory for getting everything taken care of on time.
He shook his head and laughed after Rik had left. He really was way to good at that, or bad depending on which stuck up lady you asked. At least Rik was cute and had actually managed not to stutter and run off. YOu'd think more guys would be used to getting hit on by other guys. He poked around for a bit longer before picking out a couple things and taking them up to pay for while programing the other guy's number into hsis phone
